Welcome to thread 14!

Link to our last thread here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5394264-mounjaro-starters-nov-24-thread-13-the-one-where-we-are-lucky-to-end-our-best-summer-in-years-thinner-and-more-comfortable-in-our-own-skin?page=40

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we enter Autumn knowing that ALL of our Winter coats will do up 🥰

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones, maintenance and new stone brackets!

I’m on W47 D2 and on w2 of my second titrating down pen of 5.0mg

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 9st 7.0lbs
GW 9st 0lb

Total loss so far 61.0 lbs (at 9st 6.0)

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Oh god if I got a £1 for each time someone has said not to lose any more weight to me over the past month it would have paid for another flipping pen. So there has been the ambush lunch/coffee, weekend visiting family, girlie weekend away and bonfire party. I feel your pain @Goldleafcat

But ….. my DD and sister say I look fantastic and agree with my plan for another 7lbs.

So my anniversary stats are

SW 15 stone 12lbs / 100.7kg
CW 10 stone 3lbs / 64.8kg (last time I was this weight was 1992😱)
GW 9 stone 10lbs / 61.7kg
Total lost 5 stone 9lbs / 35.8kg / 79lbs
Total to go 7lbs / 3.2kg
Dress Size - 22/20 to 12 ish
Waist 46 inches to 31.5
Hips 50 inches to 37
Thighs 23.5 inches to 19
BMI 41.6 to 26.2
waist to height ratio 0.74 to 0.52
Steps - 3,000 a day - 10,000 on average
Exercise - was zero but now Pilates and running 3 x week
BP - was being monitored but now bang in the lower half of green

Plan is complete my 2 x 10 pens from panic buying stash and to move down to my 2 *7.5mg also in stash and to see how it goes from there. As you can see the credit card got well and truly spanked in the Great Pendemic. But I do need to order again to stay on the books of a couple of providers so will get a couple of 5mg.

I would love to end up around 9 stone 7lbs given my age. Yep I have loose skin but given my age it’s not surprising so I will continue to tone up. I am the fittest I have been in 30 years.

And of course I have a whole gang of peeps - you lot🥰! Thank you so so much 🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾 no chocolate but let’s have champagne instead.

And an anniversary klaxon

Bugger. I hadn’t seen that people had regained their hair post drug. But I have developed good habits so I need to trust that I can do this. I’m going to drop down to 2.5mg next week I think. I wasn’t particularly blessed with thick hair anyway…so it is all looking a bit Francis Rossi right now 😂

if you remember I was moaning about hair loss earlier in the year. i was in a complete panic. Hair now does seem to be thickening up to pre MJ thickness and the steady trail of hair around the hose seems to be back to a normal amount. I have very long black hair so the shedding is really noticeable on the light coloured floors. I've been on maintenance since July and that seems to have helped the hair loss. I vary between 7.5 every 10 days to 5 every week. I always leave it at least 7 days between jabs and if I'm feeling good stretch it out to every 10 days. My swwet tooth does seem to have reappeared since maintenance and I'm more conscious of having to make good choices. I still want to drop further down the doses though.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 06/11/2025 19:41

Happy anniversary to everyone! Some seriously impressive stats on here.

Also convinced the drug itself is causing me to lose hair - I’ve been almost the same weight since July and my hair’s still shedding. On 5mg at the moment and about to buy a 2.5 pen. I’ve got 2 doses left in my 5, so I suppose I could use a syringe to split it. I’d quite like the safety net to take me past Christmas, but I’m also slightly determined to only buy one more pen.

So far I’ve tried rosemary oil and collagen for the hair loss. DH said he spent the whole first night I tried the oil dreaming of roast lamb. I’ve only just started on the collagen so too early to tell.

Goldleafcat · 07/11/2025 07:18

Good morning and happy Friday!

So lovely to read all of the fantastic updates and absolute superstars reaching their goal weights! And the amazing progress of everyone. We’ve all done so well over this past year. I’ve achieved my original goal weight of 11 stone but realised I need to go a bit further - I now have my sights set on the mid point of a healthy BMI. But setting my new goals at increments - my next target is 10 stone 7lbs.

SW 16 stone 7lbs
CW 10 stone 11.6lbs (every oz counts!)
1st GW 11 stone (achieved!)
2nd GW 10 stone 7lbs

Total loss 5 stone 9.4lbs or 79.4lbs
(A helluva lot of guinea pigs) (just picture them racing across a field of clover ☘️ 🐹)

Have a lovely weekend!

Ooh and we need to start a playbook of things to say to people who interrogate us / tell us not to lose any more weight etc) (I know there’s the classic MN ‘Did you mean to be so rude?’ But it doesn’t always fit the situation!)

A selection based on some goodies suggested on this thread and things I can think of:

Quizzical face - Why are you talking about my body?
Shall we talk about your body now?
Do you always ask people what medications they are taking?
Oh yes, I used to be so fat!

Some deflections:
I’m on the Fast 800
I just live on cabbage water now
Since I took up drugs it’s been an absolute breeze

Goldleafcat · 07/11/2025 07:34

Ha the roast lamb comment made me giggle! I’ve seen castor oil recommended too. I have the nioxin overnight oil stuff (hardly ever remember to use it) and noticed one of the ingredients is castor oil.

On Reddit a lot of ladies recommend it for all sorts of uses. Along with estradiol cream on their face!

lovealongbath · 07/11/2025 07:37

Prior to WLI I loved a glass or more of alcoholic beverage .
In past year, no alcohol has passed my lips as I just don’t fancy it.

So when anyone comments on my weight loss, asks what I’m doing to lose weight, i look at them sincerely and say that I have stopped drinking alcohol, I came to realise that I was drinking too much and had to do something about it and I haven’t had a drink of alcohol in over a year.

And before we know it, the conversation is diverted to how much alcohol they drink and no longer focusing on me!

Love this update! Well done missus 👏👏👏

Tbf, you are having to deal with the worst sort of critic, the MIL..she sounds like my first MIL who was aghast her son not only married a catholic but got married in a Catholic Church despite being from Cheshire rather than a part of the world divided by religion. This from a woman who claimed to be religious (cofe) but never went to church and was the most unchristian woman ever. And the sort of woman who made a mean amount of roast potatoes for a Sunday lunch. Which I judged her for 😂 And wasn’t thin herself. Very odd.

I make sure my socials feature solely me at restaurants and holding a glass of booze at all times as a suitable deflection. Plus I post about Pvolve 😂

Well done! I’ve definitely reset my relationship with booze this past year which is partially why I keep taking MJ. But I can’t deny I do love a glass of something lovely, just not every day now.

I’ve definitely got regrowth all over my hairdresser says, but my issue is the overall look is thin. I don’t even think cutting it into a bob woukd help either. It just looks wispy all over 🥲

Happy Friday update from me:

Still hovering around 132-133lbs on 3.75mg. It’s been a boozy last two days 😂 I got actually asked if my dress (from Tesco) was Chanel by someone I was having lunch with (tbf I was wearing genuine Chanel heels and had a genuine Chanel handbag) Reader, it was £13 in their sale last month 🙌

I’m off to see a preview of Micky Flanagan’s new material with DH this afternoon in Leicester sq which should be fun, and I’m now looking at places to go and eat at afterwards…he’s obviously trying to butter me up as he’s buggering off to the Rugby all day tomorrow 😂

Like my mum did, I have a block about buying clothes above a size 16, so I'm not sure how many dress sizes I've dropped. But in Primark leggings I've gone from the XLs (18-20) being tight around my tummy to Ls (14-16) being a comfy fit.
Bafflingly I have still only dropped one bra size!
My blood sugars have gone from the lower end of pre diabetes to the higher end of normal.
Likely related to my blood sugars normalising is that ‘it seems like thrush but it's not thrush but we don't actually know what it is’ has gone away.
I no longer carry imodium in the same way other people carry their phones, thanks to my digestive system slowing to normal people speed.
I don't have to hold my breath doing up my shoes, am not out of breath walking 2 mins to the shop, I don't go to bed feeling ashamed of myself for not managing to start yet another diet.
I'm just glossing past the ongoing stomach ache for now because today is about the good stuff.

THAAAAAAANK YOOOOOOU all for being SUCH a big part of this 'journey' with me. You've been such a support but also just a delight to spend time with. I knew I'd found the people who'd understand me rewarding myself with jewellery when talk turned to Gucci shoes!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/11/2025 17:10

Thank you! I love my weight loss spreadsheet now it shows actual losses, so I've added some bells and whistles to it. For about a decade it's just logged repeated failures 🤦🏻‍♀️
The costs are a bit lower than that in reality as I've got a pen waiting in the fridge that hasn't been used but counted in the costs so far. But under £30/ week when I'm saving that on food feels very reasonable. I'm aware that's low dose privilege speaking though.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 08/11/2025 09:39

Think I will add costs into my stats taking my stash into account @PinkArt Your visceral fat score is great, wish I had done that measurement.

I have been using a small fancy notebook as a type of mini tracking diary for my MJ journey. A6 size. The first half of the notebook is a catalogue of 20 years of diet failure, it was given to me as a birthday present by a friend just as we joined Weight Watchers 😂 The MJ half is very colourful and positive which I have occasionally illustrated ( I am not a great artist). I reckon I can reach Christmas entries in same book so will hopefully break into the 9 stone something category.

I went out last night and chose the lowest calorie items on the menu asking for salad dressing to be on the side. I drove so only had one glass of wine. I can make good choices even as we enter the festive period - just got to get through it. End of October 24 I ate a multipack of chocolate Halloween treats on my own in one day and a week later I was taking my first jab.

jay55 · 08/11/2025 11:22

@PinkArtall the klaxons and fireworks. 💥

Id reduced drinking before MJ, and rarely have anything when I’m not on holiday. Did have a G&T and an ice cream at the theatre weds (Elf, was meh, go to Paddington instead, if you can get tickets) instead of dinner.
I do find all the extra effects fascinating. Love hearing all the successes in different areas.
Right now I wish it was doing more for the inflammation in my thumb joints.

Still not in the 70s, my bowels are back to all or nothing and right now it’s nothing and I’m feeling so heavy.
Having strong coffee this morning.

My scales have been doing a lot of the data gathering for me and it's been so nice seeing the various numbers drop. I can do charts for the different stats too and see how close to normal they're getting now. The top of the normal range for visceral fat is 11, so 13 feels extraordinarily close compared to 23.
Your diet notebook sounds very similar to my weight loss Google docs! A series of spreadsheets started with hope and ending in fuck it. Like your book my current spreadsheet is super colourful with various milestones etc highlighted!

Some MILs are truly sent to test us. My DM used to talk at length about my weight too but I guess they think they are allowed as mums (🙄) but when a MIL starts to chime in it becomes intolerable.

Glad you survived your one. I always make way more roast potatoes than needed, I can’t help it 🤣

Thought I’d share some stats - I didn’t have smart scales until Jan so it’s not reflecting my progress since November but it’s something. 1st pic Jan, next two are from today.

I had gestational diabetes when preggers so it’s always been on my mind, my HBA1C last summer was 37 and at my most recent test, 26!

My blood pressure was in the normal range ish but at the higher side of normal, but is now good (74/113).

My cholesterol has never been bad fortunately, currently 3.9 (LDL 1.6, HDL 1.9, triglycerides 0.8).

Still have too much body fat. Working on this!

Hahaha I loooove this!!

But I'd probably turn the screw a bit more and imply I had a real drinking problem, maybe slightly imply I've found Jesus now, etc... Or that I have indeed taken up heroin and whether they'd like some. I do a killer deadpan face, so reckon I'd get away with it.

LindtCurves · 08/11/2025 19:10

Lil update from me. I'm still a few weeks away from my anniversary. I'm a late November baby...

I reached my ultimate goal weight of 9 1/2 stone 5 weeks ago, and haven't had trouble maintaining it so far. I do bringe occasionally (have had ice cream and chocolate in large quantities this week), but perhaps is not as bad as I think. I've homecooked several lovely meals this week, having made more of an effort to fill my fridge with good stuff.

I do have a tendency to feel invincible and like I can't gain when I'm around the 10st mark, so need to keep weighing myself regularly for sure.

What's been really lovely is my DM finally seems on board with my new weight. She was the leader of the 'do not lose any more' brigade. However, one of my cousins, who is about my old size, has been diagnosed diabetic. We had a good chat with her and I explained to her about the dangers of insulin resistance, diet, and how being a healthy weight and eating wholefoods helps with things like diabetes, PCOS, blood pressure etc.

She's in fact changed her own diet to include less added sugars and more natural ingredients, fresh fruit etc. She's not badly overweight, BMI around 25, but she's lost a bit of weight herself, and is no longer calling me 'bloody anorexic' like she's done in the past.

Dunno if you guys can relate, and it shouldn't matter, but I feel a small surge of inner peace knowing that my DM is accepting me as I am. I feel a lot closer to her now than I have in years. Being loved as you are is a lovely feeling.

Hello,

I have been following this thread since last year with interest but never post- so here goes.

If you have never been fat I don't think you realise what a toll it takes on you mentally and physically- I would fob this off and say - I don't care that I'm fat, I don't care that I can't buy the clothes I would like, I don't like clothes, I prefer to stay in, I don't want to go to the beach or go swimming, I don't want to be the centre of attention or feel desired.

But I DO care, I've lost 4st 9 over the last year on MJ- I haven't told a soul not even my partner how I have done it - it sounds so trivial but the feeling I had today going into a fashionable store picking up a size 18 pair of jeans off the rail them fitting like a glove and actually liking what I saw in the mirror - honestly winning the lottery wouldn't have felt better.

I've been fat for 20 years ( since I lost both my mum and dad within a year) ate my grief and didn't stop- I have forgotten what it is like to buy the clothes you want not just the ones you can fit into- for men to look at you and be attracted to you- for people to see you, and the most important thing to look in the mirror and actually think - I look beautiful and deserve good things - at 50 I didn't think I'd feel like that again.

I don't want to sound too dramatic but honestly- I am reborn Smile- don't let anyone tell you shouldn't be using MJ- I would do it again in a heartbeat 💗

Welcome to our little safe place in cyberspace.

I feel exactly the same as you. Even though some people still regard size18 as big, it is so liberating to be able to buy nice clothes that I like, rather than something that fits.

A year ago today, I was researching, a year ago tomorrow, I ordered my first pen. I too, haven’t told anyone in real life, not even my husband.
