Mounjaro Starters Nov ‘24 Thread 14 - The one where for the first time, ALL of our Winter coats do up 🤗

Mounjaropen · 23/09/2025 21:06

Welcome to thread 14!

Link to our last thread here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5394264-mounjaro-starters-nov-24-thread-13-the-one-where-we-are-lucky-to-end-our-best-summer-in-years-thinner-and-more-comfortable-in-our-own-skin?page=40

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we enter Autumn knowing that ALL of our Winter coats will do up 🥰

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones, maintenance and new stone brackets!

I’m on W47 D2 and on w2 of my second titrating down pen of 5.0mg

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 9st 7.0lbs
GW 9st 0lb

Total loss so far 61.0 lbs (at 9st 6.0)

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Brilliant news @Mounjaropen , @PinkArt and @Novjaro . Well done.

It is also my Mountjaroversary and I hit my goal weight of 9 st 7 today !!

SW : 14st BMI : 34.0
CW: 9 st 7 BMI : 23.0
Percentage body mass lost: 32%
Average weekly weight loss : 1.2 lbs
Time since I was last this weight : 31 years !

Wearing a new pair of size 8 trousers today. I have done less well than others on the exercise front but it is my aim for maintenance.

I have loved this thread and would have really struggled without it. Thank you everyone.

I'll need to book a GP appointment to discuss them but the ultrasound results are on the NHS app now and essentially nothing seems to be wrong. Which is obviously great news but leaves the question of what's going on still hanging.
It flagged that I've got a mild fatty liver, which I don't think is surprising considering how much weight I was carrying around my abdomen this time last year and that I'm still not quite out of the obese range. Mounjaro is supposed to be good news for livers though, as is weight loss in general, so hopefully I'm doing the right thing already to help that.
Pancreas, spleen, kidneys looked fine, no sign of anything wrong in the area where the dull pain mainly is.
If my GP is out of things we can investigate then I think I'll need to approach it as a digestive thing and see what else I can do with diet to make it happier.

Fingers crossed for you. Assume they’ve ruled out gall bladder issues? I only discovered the cause of my mystery pain 10 years later after a fasting ultrasound which had not been done at the time of my pain/digestive issues.

Congrats all on the brilliant year. Can you believe we’ve all stuck it out for a whole year? It’s incredible.

Also want to thank everyone for being so supportive and constructive. Ventured into some other threads at the weekend and was shocked at the meanness and judge’s. I mean I know what the internet is like, but it’s the death jab section we’re all here because we’ve been through shit.

Weight stayed the same this week but this afternoon there was mass movement after a few days of none, so expecting a new low tomorrow.
Im jabbing every 8 days at the moment, after missing last weeks jab and wanting to get back to Mondays I didnt want to go a day early so planning a day later for a few weeks as this dose is so strong anyway.

Also saw the new Paddington last night, it’s marvellous, if you can go see it, and enjoy feeling like theatre seats are armchairs now you’ve got a skinny bum.

Oh that came out 11 years ago, the last time I lost a significant amount of weight! The difference then was that to didn't know the link between gallbladder issues and weight loss, so it took a while for me to realise why I was throwing up for no apparent reason every 6 months or so.
The sonographer confirmed it's not there so it's not come back to cause problems! It does feel a similar sort of pain though - dull not sharp, not very strong, just won't sod off.

That’s good news @pinkart At least it’s ruled
out the major concerns. Have you continued to take MJ in the meantime. As you might remember I came off due to similar concerns and some oddities in my blood tests. I’m now on a waiting list for an endoscopy. Your scan sounds fantastic and very thorough.

I have but reduced my dose - back to 2.5 initially and I've shuffled up to 5 as of last week. It's helping in so many different ways that ideally I don't want to stop using it yet, unless I know it's definitely causing the problems. If I have to, obviously I will, but I'd love to get a bit closer to a healthy BMI first if possible.
I think my digestive system must be in a right state though generally. I've had IBS for over 15 years and with it regular diorhhea most days, a B12 deficiency and I'd packed my body around it with a crap load of visceral fat.

Caplin · 05/11/2025 11:12

Hello anniversary peeps, still got a couple of weeks before I hit a year. Just wanted to get some advice/ thoughts.

I’ve loved MJ, I’ve lost 5 1/2 stone and have maybe another stone to go, although if end up stuck here then that is fine as my body seems to be settled! Today though whilst jabbing did start to feel a bit tired of it all. I love the safety net of not thinking about food, but the couple of days of feeling off after jabbing are getting wearing. I’m still on 6.25.

Anyway, I have enough to get to the first week of Jan, so maybe another few pounds will be shifted. Then I have to decide, do I suck up the cost and stick on MJ for another couple of months, do I shift to Wegovy to try and shift this last stone, or do I start shifting down doses and weaning off? I did think originally I would get to goal and then stick on a lower dose for a while to make sure all the food habits were fully stuck!

I know everyone is different, some of you have managed coming off MJ so well, I’m worried my appetite still feels voracious as I get to the end of the week! For those of you that switched to Wegovy, how is it?

jay55 · 05/11/2025 12:27

Have seen some real swings online of post price rise results, some big gains, lots of people vamooshed, some success switching to wegovy. I’m still shelling out for MJ not wanting a change until I’m another 5-10kg down.

After the volume departing my body yesterday and this morning I was hopeful the scales would show me into the 70s, alas I’m still 200grams away.
How our bodies know when we’re at a weight boundary and cling on is so frustrating. Still a new low is good and there’s always tomorrow.

Hello death jabbers! Is anyone else getting reflux/acid indigestion? I think it actually started for me when I was much bigger and pre-Mounjaro but I have only just realised that this is probably what I have. Quite uncomfortable at night. MJ GP has suggested that I have blood tests to monitor pancreatic function 🫣 but it doesn't sound like pancreatitis as the NHS website describes it to me. Going to try eating much smaller meals as I think I put myself under pressure to eat as much protein as possible, and also just try to stop eating by 6 or 7 and stay upright until bedtime. Easier said than done as we have some seriously squishy sofas but it is what it is!

Ooh yes, I keep Rennies by the bed. Depends what I eat and drink, and it is better now I have lost significant weight. But acid drinks, wine, spicy or fatty food can set me off, Always in the night in bed.

2lbs is nothing @darkforces - a good poo and a week of no booze and you'll be back to where you were. I'm sure I've managed to pack on 7 - 10lbs in the past when I've spent a fortnight all inclusive 😳

Think it was just bloating. Weighed this morning and I'm now below the weight I started this holiday. Need to stabilise now as bmi is 22 at 8st 13! Happy to stop here but changing from loss to maintenance is a real brain shift.

Well done everyone at, or getting close to, their one year anniversary. I’m sure there are lots like me who have regularly read posts and gained loads of information and support but had a quieter presence.

7th November 2024….first very secretive jab. Didn’t even tell DH which was the only time in 42 years I’ve kept something from him. Told him two weeks later and he’s been the MOST amazing support over the last year.

July 2022 15 stone 9…I’m not blessed in the height department so BMI was 39.4

MJ Week 1: 14 stone 6
MJ Week 52: 9 stone 9 BMI 24.2 Lowest weight for 40 years

Other stats very similar to yours @Mounjaropen with cholesterol, triglycerides etc. BP meds now lowest dose and may be able to come off completely.

Started coming down from 15mg to 12.5mg in last two weeks. Having spent two-thirds of my life overweight I’m going to come down VERY slowly as if I'm totally honest I’m slightly terrified of it all unraveling. It doesn’t seem real that the person in the mirror wearing size 10/12 is actually me!!!!

Thank you so much everyone for your virtual friendship this year. Your awesome, inspirational stories, tips and advice, honesty with no judgement has helped more than you’ll ever know. Thanks especially to @Mounjaropen xx

Congratulations on your loss! Fantastic work! Andso happy to read this update from you! And so happy that your DH has been supportive. I think one year later, there is less scare mongering and mystery surrounding the jabs (daily mail excepted I guess!) I’ve also been coming down quite slowly, as I don’t want to jeopardise my efforts, but looking at my thinning hair, I think I need to accept that I’m probably not designed to be on MJ long-term even as a microdose 🥲

I’ve not experienced this, but it’s good news that the doctors are taking this seriously for you I think. Mind you, I don’t tend to eat anything at all beyond 6 pm as I feel that food sits quite heavily in my stomach and creates insomnia, so agree that reducing the time after which you eat in the evening is a good idea. Fingers crossed that the bloods all return is normal, which statistically speaking is probably the most likely outcome. 💐

200 g! That is very frustrating. Hope the scales have shown it shifted this morning? I’ve not looked into any of the threads where people have transferred to different products, but I think it’s such a personal thing, that you can’t really predict how your body is likely to react from one me to another?

I think in your situation, maybe see how you fair on 5 mg? It’s less expensive than a 7.5 mg pen, and if you edge down slowly, I don’t think you would see much difference in your appetite levels? I don’t really have any advice about switching to another product, safe to say that it does seem as if MJ is considered to be the medication that doctors are happy for patients to stay on for the longer term rather than OZ I think do your research just like you did before starting MJ and making an informed decision based upon how your body Reacts. Finally, do you need to lose a stone in order to fit into a healthy BMI category? Or is it a personal goal? How would you feel about staying at your current weight on a maintenance date?

Yes, I’ve slowly been coming to the conclusion that the Mounjaro medication itself does contribute to hair loss.

It’s difficult to assess properly in isolation as there are a number of different things going on (changes in diet, significant weight loss, both of which can cause hair loss) but I think the evidence (from reading multiple different experiences, and personal experience) is that it can cause thinning / loss. Especially when I’ve read about people who came off it and found improvement.

Drat.

Plus it’s right next to the Savoy, and I do enjoy a drink at the American bar. 😂 i’ve not ventured onto any of the other threads but it would be quite sad if they aren’t a source of support for people at the same stage of the WL journey I’m not sure why there is a current trend for everyone just to be so fecking mean all the time. @Mounjaropen thank you!

one more stone would put me in the top end of a healthy BMI, although I am quite strong so even at my thinnest I was relatively heavy. I would quite like to get into a size 14, and that would require at least a stone. But I look good just now, bit of flab in the middle, but at 5ft 10 I can carry off a size 16.

The more I read the more I wonder whether I just stay on MJ and bounce around providers for the next few months to get the discount. Then gradually wean down to 2.5.

Bugger. I hadn’t seen that people had regained their hair post drug. But I have developed good habits so I need to trust that I can do this. I’m going to drop down to 2.5mg next week I think. I wasn’t particularly blessed with thick hair anyway…so it is all looking a bit Francis Rossi right now 😂

Ha that has made me laugh! I feel your pain!

I’m using nioxin and I’m half convinced the treatment mousse is only popular because it helps add a bit of texture to the hair! I’m using a root lifting spray now too (when I remember) which does help provide some volume and texture (it’s a Mark Hill one I had free from somewhere).

I’m not at (my new) goal yet but I am starting to think about how I will approach maintenance and titrating down. Fascinated by all the different approaches, including spacing doses. I am on 15mg at the moment (the summit of Mounjaro) and have a few pens in the fridge. Will order at least one more 15mg and then may move to the titrating down plan with Oushk? I’m thinking of starting to move down at some point. I’d like to get to a weight where I feel I have a little wriggle room for a gain upon coming off completely whilst still remaining slim. I want to build muscle too and I think that’s always going to be a challenge whilst in a deficit.

Oh I didn’t update on further interrogation shenanigans last weekend. One of MILs friends popped into see us on the Sat morning, she is a lovely lady and I think she mostly wanted to see DS. However when she arrived one of the first things she said was ‘you’ve lost so much weight! You’ve lost loads!’ And then once settled down with tea asked me directly how I was doing it. So I think she was primed.

Then the next day one of DH’s cousins popped in (to see DS) and whilst they were there MIL randomly started on about my weight and how I shouldn’t lose any more, shaking her head. By this point I was pretty pissed off (literally she’s talking about my body to anyone and everyone now) and had to sharply say ‘it’s my body! You didn’t like it when I was fat!’ . And then she lamented about how she worries etc. 🙄

The thing is I’m still a size 14. If I was a size 4 with sunken eye sockets and skeletal arms and hands she may have a point. But that is simply not the case and I’m really quite angry she thought it fair game to talk at length about my body and what I should be doing about it (I’m 45 FFS).

And breathe.
