Welcome to thread 14!

Link to our last thread here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5394264-mounjaro-starters-nov-24-thread-13-the-one-where-we-are-lucky-to-end-our-best-summer-in-years-thinner-and-more-comfortable-in-our-own-skin?page=40

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we enter Autumn knowing that ALL of our Winter coats will do up 🥰

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones, maintenance and new stone brackets!

I’m on W47 D2 and on w2 of my second titrating down pen of 5.0mg

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 9st 7.0lbs
GW 9st 0lb

Total loss so far 61.0 lbs (at 9st 6.0)

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Haha. I doubt he's the one, we have a fair bit of overlap, but also a fair few differences. But he's younger than me and... physically just 100% perfect. It's weird because I've always dated brains, not looks, but you only live once, may as well enjoy it. He's very sweet and a little bit insecure underneath it all so think we'll push through the cold season cuddling together.

You're right, I just need to embrace it all.

Just makes me sad that skinny privilege is so prevalent, and wanting to challenge it somehow.

I had this in my 20s when I lost a lot of weight. Suddenly I got so much attention that it was actually a bit oppressive and scary - followed into shops, asked out at bus stops. It was really hard to engage with men who obviously wouldn't have been interested when I was fatter. I met my husband when I was 18 stone and I am actually really grateful that I don't have to wonder whether he would have been interested "before".

DH number 1 was spectacularly good looking - much like you are describing, model looks etc. However, I didn’t use a big word in all the years we were together, and ultimately I had knickers that lasted longer than that marriage 😳. To this day I still don’t know why I married him other than he really did dote on me and I enjoyed the fact someone so good looking had chosen me…odd really, given that I had turned down footballers rather arrogantly when I was at university because “what would we even talk about”? 😂 So enjoy the cosy nights without the expectation of a discussion on the merits of the economic policies of governments around the world 😉

Ahh he sounds like a keeper! my DH has seen me at my lowest weight in ‘before times’ and also at my largest. He’s enjoying the fact I’m back into enjoying clothes again (as I did many years ago) plus the added benefit of a reduced amount of Spanx shapewear going on underneath 😂 Stalkers have never been an issue for me, I think I give too many ‘FO vibes’ 🤣

Love this!! When I was big, somehow I made an argument in my head that people worth having in my life shouldn't care about my size, and I shouldn't lose weight to match society's ideas of what beauty looks like. Instead of thinking of my health

I'm quite cynical about the people who are interested now, like you have mentioned. Especially the ones who are more interested now than they were before

Oh he's actually very brainy @Mounjaropen. But I think he has a similar life experience to what I'm having now, people fawning over him because of his looks and jumping into bed with him quickly. We are actually genuinely discussing economic policies more than doing anything more exciting and that's lovely. But I think he's quite happy to keep modelling as long as they'll have him, and is so relaxed he's almost horizontal, which isn't really my vibe. He's brainy and therefore I think he should do more with it... But I'm not telling him of course.

How long exactly are we talking for DH number 1? 😅Yeah I know what you mean about dating footballers, wouldn't have crossed my mind in my early 20s. Then I did end up dating one and quickly learned that was a mistake!

It sounds rather lovely that he has seen you through all the different life stages and clearly loves you dearly.

Onto MAINTENANCE, I did 18 days off MJ as a test. 14 was fine, but injected today as I badly needed it. Two main issues:

  • Very hungry last few days. Did not expect it, so did not set myself up for good choices as I was away from home. Hungry at breakfast (croissant), hungry at lunch (generous helping of pasta + veg, homemade), there was an afternoon snack of a pastry as that was what was available, and pizza (proper Italian one, non-UPF) for dinner! Now, this is NOT representative of my MJ diet! Need to stock up on good choices, but also, the real feeling of hunger and wanting all these carbs put me on guard. I was getting my hair done this afternoon and dreaming of this pizza
  • Soem decline in mental health/ focus. I know depression is supposed to be a risk on MJ, but I've had completely the opposite experience. I have felt mentally sharper and more balanced than ever. These last few days, I'm forgetful and feeling a little bit sad

Being honest, if that's how I feel off MJ compared to how I feel on, I am happy to microdose for life. It's like a performance enhancing, life changing drug to me.

Goldleafcat · 23/10/2025 20:59

Oh I’m loving the sound of your model bf @LindtCurves . I’d quite like to have one in my life too but not sure what my DH would have to say 😅

In terms of people engagement, I’ve lived a rather dull life these last couple of years (baby who is now 3, when I returned to work, have been wfh for the most part, etc). So my experiences have been stuff like baby groups, queuing at the post office, supermarket, playgroup (I bloody hated the playgroup with all the cliquey women but there we are 🤣), returning to work has been fine actually at least. At least people know me / recognise me for my brain (what little is left at least!).

Have however had a lovely evening with a friend for freebie drinks and canapés, alas however my period arrived today and it’s apparently brought the appetite of a thousand locusts. Got to the train station and nearly succumbed to a Burger King but then swerved to a Caesar salad meal deal from Boots. Honestly, I regret this decision. But at least I saved a few quid as the Burger King at the station is extortionate.

Interestingly, I do think MJ (for all the amazing stuff it’s done for my weight) has actually had a bit of a depressive effect on me. It’s dulled stuff a bit I think - I’ve kind of noticed this after month one but have tried to ignore it. I’ve not flagged it up in anything medical / with the pharmacist because I clearly want to stay on it for some time and it’s done amazing things for me in general. But I have noticed a difference. It is manageable. I do wonder how I will feel when I come off it.

LindtCurves · 23/10/2025 21:22

@Goldleafcat I apologise for nothing haha! You gotta try everything at least once, including excessively handsome men that look unbelievable with little clothing on... Maybe have a word with DH and float the idea 😉You never know 😅

Hmmmm yes, can relate! I do allow the odd calorific food in my diet as I know I've not eaten enough a lot of the time. Proud of you for having made a good choice - today's not my finest hour!

How exactly does it make you feel? Just feeling less joy etc? Or feeling lower day to day?

I would say it's had a dulling effect on me too, but I believe it's been a positive one. Around this time of the year, I have a tendency to feel emotions more intensely to the point of crying (unusual for me). With MJ, the way I'd describe my emotional trajectory is much more a constant line with a lot of little sparks of positivity, not a rollercoater with ups and downs. Feel a lot calmer and don't tend to react to things. The last few days I've felt very erratic though and needed quiet space to calm down after being under pressure.

Mounjaropen · 24/10/2025 07:46

Good morning friends in my phone and Happy Friday!

Weekly update from me: weight still at 132lbs and I’ve dropped down to 3.75mg this week. No discernible difference in appetite ( I woke up thinking I had a hunger pang this morning, but 500mls of water and two coffees whilst reading the papers has sorted this). I did want to get down to 130lbsfor the Mounjaro anniversary but I can’t see that happening….

Food discoveries this week: Yesterday I made Joe Wickes’ healthy snickers x Bounty bars (recipe below) which are delish and perfect as an after dinner treat or with a coffee. I also bought some lovely French trimmed chunky pork cutlets from Tesco finest range which came with bernaise butter - good value as a treat item and great with a green salad. Pork really is good value and is relatively low in fat with the right cut. I’ve also really been into corn on the cob lately which takes ages to eat so promotes satiety for me.

Supplements: I’m now taking seriously bone health as I approach the grand old age of 54 so vitamin D is now on the daily regime until late spring. I also bought creatine gummies (I think I need to take rebuilding my muscle loss seriously now as I take it down) I was somewhat confused in H&B about how much or what I should be taking so I went for the easy option of gummies and see how I go. There is a chance creatine causes weight gain so I’ll be watching carefully to check that it is muscle going on not fat. I’m taking them Monday to Friday as I drink at the weekend and alcohol and creatine don’t mix well because they both dehydrate. Not sure if this is the right thing to do. anyone else on it?

Beauty: I’ve not had UHF treatments now since the start of august, no discernible difference in lax skin so I think that probably answers that question as to its efficacy. I’m going to concentrate on toning, water intake and consistent skincare routines to improve appearance I think. The hair loss has stopped since I became more careful with my testosterone routine so mystery solved!

Exercise: The pvolve quest continues.. I’m on track to hit my target of achieving an average of 5 x pw for the past year by the end of next week 💪🏻 The series Murdargh: Murder in the family on Disney+ has proved to be an excellent treadmill watch this week - would highly recommend.

The weekend is likely to be a boozy one, DD is back from uni so we’ll eat out tomorrow night and I booked a book club/ dinner affair at Angela Harnett’s back in July which I forgot about but paid for back then so that’ll be fun!

Hope everyone has something fun to do this weekend!

Joe Wicks' Snickers x Bounty date bites
Ingredients: Medjool dates, deep roasted crunchy peanut butter, dark chocolate, and desiccated coconut.
Method:
Pit the Medjool dates.
Stuff each date with peanut butter.
Melt dark chocolate and dip the stuffed dates in it.
Place them on parchment paper and add a sprinkle of desiccated coconut to one half of each date.
Refrigerate for about an hour to set.

Just done Week 6 Run 2 of couch 2 5k so I am feeling pretty pleased with myself. Still have 4lbs to go in order to hit 10 stone and another 4 after that to have a BMI of 25. I feel as those I am crawling along using my fingernails to reach those those goals but plodding on.

My DD makes those date bites whenever she comes home - they are yummy! Perfect treat size.

I take vitamin D every day between October and April especially as I had a blood test a couple of years ago saying my Vitamin D levels were low.

Gained a pound this week 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've been grazing way more than I have since starting mounjaro over the last week or two. Weirdly I haven't had what feels like loud food noise with it though, I just seem to have slid back into some bad habits.
I'm going back up to 5mg this week and giving myself a kick up the bum that I need to work with the mounjaro to get my head back in the game. I bought myself a 6 stones lost reward this week as the jewellery shop had 20% off. I really want to wear the ring so there's the carat/ carrot 😂

jay55 · 24/10/2025 12:37

Weighing in for he first time in ages

sw 140kg
sw on mj 104kg
cw 80.5kg
Next goal 75kg

23.5kg down on mj, 39.5kg overall.

Second week of 12.5, just a few burps for side effects, and over a kg loss which is amazing.

Went to see Kathy Burke on her book tour and while she hasn’t suddenly become skinny, she had to turn the mic away to burp a few times and I thought, yay, she’s on the jabs. And she also mentioned how people think she eats crap when she’s a healthy eater(veggie, makes lots of soup).

Cantbesure · 24/10/2025 12:43

Well done on the run @TheSlimmingPumpkin how are you feeling about run 3? You’ve definitely got this 🏃‍♀️

I’m just back from a health check. My blood sugar is the lowest she’s seen 😇 I mentioned MJ and the nurse said they are seeing better results for those that are paying for it privately and those that are being prescribed it. She says those of us paying for it are generally taking it along with other health improving measures. Whereas those being prescribed it are struggling with the life changes alongside and maybe don’t value it as much as it’s not such a cost.

I am amazed that I can run (plod along) for so long without stopping. I am doing it on a running club course and week 6 last run is 3.6km without stopping. Group has gone from 10 to 6 for various reasons but the running club is really supportive and there is a range of sizes and ages taking part. I am secretly enjoying it.

I think the problem with WLIs is that some take them but then don’t implement the necessary changes or slip quickly back into old habits. The people who struggle probably don’t have the support that’s needed to back up the jabs, and I think NHS services are beginning to recognise that. People may want NHS to supply the jabs for free but without ‘any skin in the game’ it’s hard to adapt behaviours if MJ is taking the full load.

I will only have my maintenance call when I hit 9 stone 8 and then come down slowly. I haven’t invested all this money to balloon out again.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 24/10/2025 13:42

Liked what you did there @PinkArt

Going to suggest to DH that I need a carrot/carat incentive reward 💍😂

Cantbesure · 24/10/2025 14:05

@TheSlimmingPumpkin I’m glad to hear you are enjoying it. I’m in a running club too and couldn’t be without it now. It’s nice to have a group of friendly faces to see. I haven’t got friends as such but enough to have a quick chat during the run.

I thought her comments were interesting as there is often the narrative that those of us paying are taking an easy way out, risking our health, not making changes etc so I thought it was refreshing to hear that her view, as a medical professional, is they are seeing better results and commitment to those of us paying for expensive death jabs. Her mum was on them too, so she had a personal experience.

Cantbesure · 24/10/2025 14:13

In fact I think my need for a running club is similar to how I need the support of this group. I could miss a run or two on my own, think it doesn’t matter and suddenly months have passed and I’m back to square one. Same as the support and community in this thread. I’ve stopped the jabs but am still very much on my journey. Reading all the effort and amazing successes on this group helps keep me focused and committed. So thanks to you all 🙏

I'm embarrassingly proud of my work there! I love language but my punning skills are not usually very instinctive.
Obviously the weight loss itself is the biggest reward but I definitely respond well to tangible rewards too. Like diamonds!

Well done on the C2K! Fab result. I'm amazed at my general fitness having done pretty much zero running (tennis court aside). I no longer need the fan on in my gym when I'm on the treadmill as I literally do not perspire walking at 4.5mph on an incline of 5%. I'd have passed out this time last year 😂

I LOVE Kathy Burke! Was it good? I'm hoping for a copy of her book for my birthday from DD. I went to her live 'Where there's a will, there's a wake' last year, it was great fun. She has said on the podcast that she's on steroids that means she has to eat regularly and she was fed up about her weight as she's a vegetarian too. I'm not sure she would be on the jabs though with her other health issues? But good luck to her if she is. She's a genuine national treasure I think.

Well done!

I think the NHS argument was that the jabs needed counselling/coaching to accompany them. Sounds like that was not unreasonable to withhold if the results are vastly different.

Perhaps we should all retrain as WL counsellors!

I take vit D gummies as soon as summer fades! I wear SPF 50 year round on my face, so feel like i need all the help I can get with vit D.

As for creatine, I take the Nutrition Geeks powder - pop it in with my magnesium powder and drink daily. I find it's good for brain fog.

This snicker x bounty bites sound perfect!
