I get flu and covid jabs because of diabetes and my immune system decided it didn't like my thyroid.

Snap on the autoimmune thyroid! It doesn't get me a flu jab though, I get that through BMI and work (NHS staff).

Iwouldratherbesinging · 07/10/2025 11:04

Is it the reverse of a NSV that I no longer qualify for a flu or covid jab now? 😆

Where is the FFS reaction!!

TragicMuse · 07/10/2025 15:35

Oh yeah! My thyroid too, 😆

It’s almost as if all these things could be linked and perhaps weight is a whole-system thing. Rather than the popular (Mis)conception that we’re all just sitting on the sofa chugging through cakes all day. Hmmmm!

Toss me another eclair, Louis…

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 07/10/2025 15:56

I get the flu jabs etc because I'm an Old Lady.
I'm 69.
I can't believe I'll be 70 next year.

@TragicMuse who would possibly think there could be some connection between it all!

As DD said when we were discussing calories - we aren't machines.

Doggymummar · 07/10/2025 16:11

Mummyinthenecropolis you look fantastic

Well, in my case there's not much of a link - I've been overweight my whole life (went on my first diet aged 10). My thyroid issues were caused by my first pregnancy (which I had a BMI of 54 at the start of, before the thyroid went haywire) and was actually an overactive thyroid rather than underactive, causing me to lose 5 stone in 6 months. I then had it removed after my second pregnancy so now don't have one and have been stable on my meds through many weight losses and gains. But generally yes, not much surprise that people with weight issues also have metabolic issues!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2025 17:13

Amazing pics. Esp @MummyInTheNecropolis. Please tell me you can see a huge diff

AlicesMum2025 · 07/10/2025 17:32

Wow, what great photos you've all posted. Congratulations, your hard work is really showing and you deserve it.

You've reminded me that it's time for me to take a progress photo!

Lds1 · 07/10/2025 18:33

Sometimes I get a message to book a flu jab and sometime I don't. I've not had a message to book one this year so I'll get one through work. I was wondering if I got a message to book they would still give me it when I got there as I assume the only reason I would qualify is BMI.

IWishIWasABaller · 07/10/2025 19:21

So first week weigh in and im down 2lbs which in very happy with. Im on the lowest dose of saxenda and going to continue it for another week before deciding whether to move up to the next level ( saxenda is a daily injection ) have had no real physical side effects a little nausea the first day but thats all. I was very nervous starting after hearing a lot of horror stories about side effects but im glad to have started on my journey now. Have a long way to go but happy to take it slow and steady . Food noise has dulled massively I feel very hungry when my meals are due but appetite has definitely decreased as has snacking in between meals

TragicMuse · 08/10/2025 09:15

Well done @IWishIWasABaller!

Week 32, 7.5mg

SW 19st 4lbs (Jan 2025, pre-MJ)
SW on MJ 18st 11.5lbs (1 Mar 2025)
CW 14st 6.5lbs
Loss this week 3lb
Total loss 67.5lbs

A whoosh! I was hoping for one but didn’t think I was going to get it! Hurrah for being wrong.

I’m now 2.5lbs away from a 5st loss.

It’s Amazing!

Last night I was back in the drawers under the bed. Pulled out loads of things I have loved and missed. There was a lot of ‘OH! I love that top/skirt/dress’. As I tossed it onto the pile of things to put away. I’ve got a couple of shirts out and am wearing one today, it looks fab with the new trousers I bought on Sunday.

Week before last was hard. Last week was ok. Temptation has gone again.

This morning I jabbed the last of my 7.5mg pen, it was about 70-75ml so I’m tracking that as around 9mg for my dose. Going up to 10mg next week.

Onwards and DOWNWARDS, losers!

Doggymummar · 08/10/2025 09:38

Well done @TragicMuse that a great boost.

I'm doing well on 12.5 (50 clicks) from a 15mg pen. I've decided I will be stopping when these pens are gone. I've still no job and we are in the process of buying a house with only 15 years on the mortgage due to our ages, it's twice the cost of renting and my poor partner will have all that to pay by himself. I also hope he remembers I have £300 a month on a credit card I took out last year to fix my teeth, so I can't ask him to pay for the MJ as well. I've already had my hair weave out as I don't have the money to maintain it and haven't had my nails done for 5 weeks. I don't feel sad about any of this. I'm looking forward to us having our own home and working towards something ( home improvement) together. For the past few years I have been really worried about how we will pay rent in retirement and what sort of social housing we would be in, and now I won't have to worry as we will have our own place.

But my priority has to be getting an income and reducing spending to a minimum.

Hi lots more inspiring losses, well done everyone! Hoping that someone can help, I only really trust this group for advice. I need to order more pen needles as since the price increase I’ve been taking 6 x 10mg doses from a 15mg pen. Where am I best to get these from and what exactly should I order? I’m so nervy around getting something like this wrong that I don’t extract the extra dose even so not had to purchase anything like this before. Thank you!

I've got a million, which I've saved over the months from the various suppliers from whom I've ordered.
Well, not a million but loads. 🤣

If you PM me your address I'll post them to you.

I always use a syringe and needle because I extract the quantity I want.
I've also been using longer needles for about three months, even though they don't make any difference with me.

Yes, I did.
But it still makes it a lot cheaper than MJ, especially with the discount.

Sorry, that reminded me.

When I was first prescribed mounjaro the pharmacy didn't give me any needles, told DH that I needed a separate prescription for these. DH was backwards and forwards between the Dr's reception and the pharmacy as they conducted some sort of domestic row between them using DH as go-between!

(Pharmacy and surgery are in the same building)

Eventually I was given a box of 100 needles then the following month I was given the same again. I had to say 'please, no more!' as they tried to do the same again the following month.

Fffreeeeezing · 08/10/2025 13:59

I saw my own GP this morning (first time ever I think) and to say she was enthusiastic about the weight loss would be understating it! I've had bloods taken so we can see how much all my numbers have gone down (I was just into prediabetic numbers in June). She also told me she had referred a few patients for MJ but they were all rejected despite her being sure they all met the criteria, I told her I wasn't even going to ask as I know I wouldn't stand a chance. She asked loads of questions about it and chucked in some extra blood tests to make sure I'm not deficient in anything.

Its weird how everyone and their mother seem to have an opinion on MJ and be experts on why it's so bad but the actual medical experts seem to be cheering us on which is nice

PearlsPearl · 08/10/2025 14:48

NSV- have a job interview tomorrow, and everything I have suitable to wear looks too baggy and scruffy as a result. Popped to Tesco this morning, grabbed 2 size 20 shirts off the sale rack, and they both fit fine. In fact 1 I could probably have got in an 18.

It makes me feel all emotional, these NSVs, things I've always wanted to be able to do (shop in a supermarket), and now can.

@Doggymummar best of luck to you. We bought our own house 2 years ago and it's been a huge relief to know we're no longer in unstable housing, although a massive financial burden for a while, worth every penny. The feeling of safety and home is like no other. You've lost so much weight now, I'm sure if you keep a close eye on yourself after all this time you'll be able to maintain positive changes. Are you sure you don't want to stay on a maintenance dose though just in case? You could do 2.5s from a 15 pen, that would last you absolutely ages (if you don't care about expiry dates. I don't, but know it's a personal choice).
