Anyone interested in a post-MJ thread? For people coming off completely?

I wondered if anyone is coming off Mounjaro completely and looking to maintain or continue losing weight?

I'm half way through my last pen and coming off earlier than planned due to the price rise and fatigue with the whole process.

Back down to 11st 11lb this weekend (my pre-Christmas weight). However, I am shifting more and more to focusing on what, when and how I eat rather than the scales. Mentally, the preoccupation with my weight wasn't doing me any good.

I want to reintroduce the Glucose Goddess hacks that I was interested in a couple of years ago (some I have maintained). I feel it will get easier as I stay off the sugar and we move in to spring. So, I'll read up on berberine too.

Marking in anticipation of stopping completely soon xx

EdinaTheConfessor · 11/01/2026 14:38

Those using berberine, what time of the day todo you take it?

Whenever I'm super hungry! So usually between meals when I was on mj and it wore off end week due to its 5 day half life and i was craving snacks. Been on wegovy 7 weeks and not had to take it once as its been super strong suppression and satiety all week. It lowers blood sugar and suppresses appetite according to online sources.

Sadteacher · 11/01/2026 17:42

I have lost 2lbs of about 5 I put on over Christmas. I have exercised 4 times this week, but I know there is one thing I need to do… limit portion sizes. I have never been a snacker so couldn’t understand why I was overweight. Well, it is because even healthy home cooked food has calories. If you are 5’2 you cannot eat the same portion as your 6 foot husband!
I dip in and out of threads from those who started over a year ago. There seem to be lots who have gained more than me after several months off the jabs so it does make me confident I am generally doing ok. Christmas is always going to be a tricky time. My jeans are definitely tighter so I am trying hard. I am slowly thinking I can stay off the jabs long term. If I can lose another 3 lbs that will seal the deal!

RightImDoingThis · 11/01/2026 17:53

I'm about 8 years in to perimenopause and my diet has had to completely change. It took me ages to learn about this and even longer to accept it. Now I accept that 98% percent of the time I can't afford to eat "treats".

Struggling a bit with January - the long nights and cold weather really put me off walking my commute, going for walks on an evening or getting to the gym. This makes me feel positive about the year ahead.

January turned out ok. I quit all biscuits and chocolate and lost 3lb. I'm now about 2lb off my lowest weight on MJ but my body measurements are even lower.

How is your suppression? And does your weight go up and down a lot?

RightImDoingThis · 01/02/2026 20:13

It seems to plateau rather than go up and down, even though my habits are fairly consistent. My appetite came back really strong at first and I struggled with a really rumbly tummy at night. Quitting sugar completely has been a game changer in that regard.

Just wondering about this ‘inflammation weight gain’ that many of the threads mention?
Have any of you experienced this when you came off MJ? I definitely don’t mean gain from eating too much but more if you do or don’t believe in it/your experience of it?
Im not in maintenance yet but working out my plan currently. It seems pretty crap tha you can gain up to a stone and there’s nothing you can do about it? I guess I’m hoping it’s not a real thing or if it is it’s more like water weight gain before you have a period so like 3lbs?

RightImDoingThis · 02/02/2026 12:22

It’s not fat, it’s water retention due to the inflammation. Eating carbs and sugar causes it in me, drinking alcohol, weight lifting, stress, poor sleep quality etc. all do. Coming off the jabs “causes” it because whilst on the jabs they reduce inflammation in the body.

I've lost 4st 9lb and feel so much better. I still have another 1.5 to go but I simply can't afford MJ anymore.

Unfortunately, I didn't build cleaner eating habits and I'm terrified of putting the weight back on. I'm going to try intermittent fasting.

RightImDoingThis · 02/02/2026 14:17

I find I only eat twice a day most days now, so accidentally time restricted eating.

EdinaTheConfessor · 02/02/2026 15:29

I have managed to lose a grand total of 2lb in January without MJ.
I know that’s still ok seeing as I don’t have much to lose, but when you are used to seeing it drop that much weekly it’s a bitter pill to swallow considering all the effort I’m putting in.
Well at least it’s going in the right direction. Going to keep soldiering on into Feb.

bignewprinz · 02/02/2026 18:43

I've been off maybe 5 weeks now. No gain, in fact I have stayed bang on the same weight - so no obvious inflammation here. Have been noticeably more hungry but my new eating habits feel quite firmly entrenched. It's v.early days though.

I quit due to anhedonia and that cleared up within maybe 2 weeks of my final jab. However, my headaches have definitely gotten worse since stopping. Just an anecdotal observation.

I want to lose another 7/8kg but not sure I can do it without MJ - I will be too hungry. I do feel I can maintain my new weight though. That's mostly because my weight gain stemmed from me overeating without realising it (I feel quite stupid saying that). Now I know exactly how much I can eat and it ain't much!

That’s great to hear! I obviously would expect water gain if I ate the wrong things or alcohol etc but good to hear if you keep doing everything you’ve always done on MJ it can hold firm.
My headaches now are practically a thing of the past, I won’t look forward to them coming back when I taper off!

tinyemmy · 02/02/2026 21:55

I'm about 6 weeks off, I put on a few pounds during Christmas and have struggled to get out of the eat everything in sight mentality and have even started ignoring the scales. I've given myself a talking to. I'm on the scales tomorrow. I've got a plan to stick to calories which is similar to what I was eating to lose on mj but I've added breakfast which I'm hoping calms my evening binge eating behaviours. I have just shy of two weeks before I go skiing and I want to reverse the weight gain trend and give myself a solid plan for when I return so I can get back to my goal.

Sadteacher · 05/02/2026 21:39

By some miracle , I am happy with my weight again. I have lost the 5 lbs I put on over Christmas , took me 5 weeks though. I fully thought I’d have to order a new pen. Nipped in the bud, woo hoo.
Post MJ is hard but it is doable.

How did you do it. I'm struggling to stay away from the naughties. Although nearly there. But off skiing soon so they'll creep back in and it'll be Christmas all over again. Tempted to jab when I get back from skiing to nip it in the bud.

Sadteacher · 06/02/2026 06:52

I added an extra gym or swim session a week so 4 instead of 3. Pretty much no carbs, this is usually what works for me. Salad instead of rice or potatoes.
I think the difference is I have kept it up all month as I feel happier in myself. 5 lbs when I was very overweight wouldn’t have made my difference to how I felt so I’d have given up! I am still surprised to be honest.

EdinaTheConfessor · 08/02/2026 09:19

For anyone who has been off MJ for a while, does the hunger decrease over time?

I’ve been off over a month now and am ravenous. Admittedly I trying to lose still rather than maintain so am restricting calories, but still. The hunger, the food noise it is all back with abundance. Luckily I seem to have had a surge in will power so I’m not succumbing to the cravings and have managed to lose a few pounds but I’m just so hungry 😭

RightImDoingThis · 08/02/2026 10:20

Mine did subside, but I also now cut out sugar completely most weeks. So, hard to know what was the main solution.

OP posts:
Sadteacher · 08/02/2026 10:43

I used to be obsessive about ways to lose weight and it occupied my mind all the time. Now, I’m obsessive about not gaining again. The difference is I feel happy with myself! I ordered lots of vinted things yesterday, all size 12. I can fit into a 10 in some brands but I’ve still chunky hips so a 12 isn’t always loose either. It takes a while to know what things suit you when your shape changes!
I weighed in a pound below my top maximum weight this morning ( helped by wine dehydration I suspect😂) and that stopped me having a slab of peanut butter on toast for breakfast. It is motivating me to make good choices.

Can you set out what you eat in a day. I find maintaining manageable but only if I eat exclusively wholefoods, adequate protein and fibre etc .

Sadteacher · 02/03/2026 18:52

Another boring update, I’m still a few pounds heavier than when I stopped ( around 5lb) but probably about a thousand pounds money richer so happy with that! 3 holidays and Christmas since stopping too. I am nearing my 12 month window of still being able to reorder but have stopped worrying about it. I weigh every day and I am sure that helps. I feel a normal- ish weight, a size 12 ish and bmi still a bit over 25 but most importantly I am enjoying not feeling miserable about being fat all the time.
