Anyone interested in a post-MJ thread? For people coming off completely?

I wondered if anyone is coming off Mounjaro completely and looking to maintain or continue losing weight?

I'm half way through my last pen and coming off earlier than planned due to the price rise and fatigue with the whole process.

@nunencoI have been second-guessing myself today but having just jabbed I'm pretty certain I need to come off. I'm going to try finishing this pen but I can see me chucking it away before the end too.

@Mysticmaiden welcome! Check out the other thread linked above because there's a good crowd working their way down dosages. Interested in how you find the berberine but I'm soooo looking forward to not having anything 'extra' in my body.

@Backgroundnoises so much of your post felt familiar. I just want to see what it's like without the jabs in terms of energy, mood, etc. Losing the weight has been actually life-changing for me and I love the changes to my figure, blood pressure, snoring(!) etc. but I just want to see if I can get back to normal in "me".

@Sadteacher how did you fare between April and the summer back up pens? Losing another 6lb will get me below the next stone so that's my goal for Christmas.

Hello everyone I haven't name-checked - it's been a busy day at work and I've not always been able to reply properly.

I took the first injection of my last pen the day before the news broke on BBC that the prices were increasing. I was already on the fence about carrying on because side effects. Had it worked I would probably have carried on but not worth it for me. Just didn’t see the point to put myself through another two weeks considering I was going to stop in any event.

Loopylou7219 · 04/09/2025 21:41

Hi, I'm interested in this thread. I have stopped more suddenly than planned due to the price increase. I have lost 3 stone 4Ibs and although am within a healthy BMI range my target was another 10Ibs.

I can already feel myself getting a bit obsessed about gaining the weight back even though I am counting calories and getting 14k steps a day. My ability to lose weight after having my third child and approaching 40, had just completely stalled no matter what I did. MJ has been transformational for me and although I did want to taper off I am terrified about putting weight back on. Like PP I seem to have fluctuated.by about 2Ibs so am telling myself that's probably quite normal.

summerlovingvibes · 04/09/2025 21:47

I am considering this.
I can't afford to continue, and therefore once my pens run out I'll be coming off completely probably in the next few weeks.
I feel really nervous about it

I want to continue trying to lose weight but I have had such amazing effects with MJ that I'm sad and nervous to be stopping.

I've lost over 4 stone. Have another 1.5 to go and it will take a lot of will power.

I'm not looking forward to the hunger coming back and the snacking feelings!

TeenLifeMum · 04/09/2025 21:49

I’ve been tapering. It worked brilliantly until it stopped being effective so I went up a dose but all the initial symptoms came back worse so I dropped back down. I’ve been taking 5mg every 2 weeks as I move to life after mj. I want to focus on fitness now and being more active.

CatherineParr · 04/09/2025 22:23

I stopped in January. Lost 4 stone. I've regained 5 pounds. Feels well under control. Happy to answer any questions

Loopylou7219 · 05/09/2025 06:42

@CatherineParr Would you mind me asking; the five pounds you said you've regained, do you feel that it just went back on as a natural adjustment or could you account for why you regained that due to eating more, appetite coming back etc?

Is anyone considering wegovy?

CatherineParr · 05/09/2025 06:51

I ate badly (went on holiday, some old habits crept back). Then readjusted my mindset and got back on track. Stopped regaining weight. You do definitely need to be more mindful, eat protein , drink water etc.

RightImDoingThis · 05/09/2025 07:33

@SecretNameforMN I wonder if there's part of you still curious about wli, given that you're still on this board? Do you think you will try it again having read @gimmemounjaro's helpful posts?

@Tohaveandtohold you're just a bit ahead of me, it's very inspiring to read your posts. I hope having got back down to slim it's enough for me to stay on track. Since deciding to make this my last pen I've been super-motivated.

@Nunenco I hear you. I think I said this yesterday, but I really do hope I can get back to being me. Only this time without the baggage of 3 or 4 extra stones. The thought of not having to jab every week feels brilliant.

@Loopylou7219 we're in such a similar position. I am trying to lose some of those last pounds before the pen runs out.

@summerlovingvibes I have similar worries. But, without the extra stones of fat our bodies will be less obesogenic. I am really focusing on eating satiating foods. Actually, I might have a refresher on the Glucose Goddess hacks too.

@TeenLifeMum are you planning to come off completely or keep on a low-ish dose after that experience?

@CatherineParr I have read a lot of people putting a little weight back on (and what are the stats? 10% of the original weight back on? I should google it). I had hoped to create a "cushion" to allow for this, but that's not on the cards now!

TeenLifeMum · 05/09/2025 11:00

@RightImDoingThis I’ll be taking the last dose on Sunday and then that’s it. I’ve been on holiday then had my twins’ birthday so need to lose half a stone but I feel confident I can do this with calorie counting and exercise. I never wanted to be “skinny” so got to a comfortable weight for me which is higher end bmi but “healthy”.

For context, I haven’t always been fat. I was running half marathons in 2020. But, work all went to shit in 2022 (organisation merged, job at risk, awful bullying/people trying to get me sacked so they could have my job despite and all my allies had been made redundant). I piled on weight as I ate my way through the stress. I kept my job and have proved myself so finally felt able to get weight down but it wasn’t budging. A friend mentioned mj and I was sold. Went on it last November. I’m back to eating 2 meals a day and stopped snacking/binging, so I’m optimistic I can keep control.

Loopylou7219 · 06/09/2025 23:09

Is it ok to have a bit of a vent 😔 . Despite being in a calorie deficit this week then scales are saying +2Ibs. Now this could just be a normal fluctuation and I'm unsure if MJ would be totally out of my system at this point (think it's been two weeks since I last injected) but it just takes me back to what led me to using MJ in the first place. After my third child, no matter what I did, the weight just would not shift, I know that's something people always say and when you read it you think, well yea they must be eating more. But hand on heart I was tracking every single thing that passed my lips. It felt so out of control and horrible that despite having great will power towards both eating and exercise, the scales would just not budge, to the point where I even contacted my GP to see if there was a medical problem as to why I just wasn't losing weight. The only thing I can think of is that years of yo-yo dieting have totally fucked my metabolism, but is that even a real thing?

I'm aware this could also be a normal recalibration of my body and perhaps a couple of pounds which evens out is nothing to cry about but it just absolutely sucks that I couldn't have got closer to my target where a couple of pounds on wouldn't have felt so disheartening. Currently looking at panic ordering wegovy. Just feeling so deflated because despite the increase I didn't want to stay on MJ long term anyway, but is this just my body?!? Does it naturally go towards being overweight. I just cannot understand it.

Thanks for reading I hope the rest of you are managing ok x

taylorswift1989 · 06/09/2025 23:22

Im tapering down now, unable to afford to keep going even though I still have weight to lose. I'm really worried I'll regain all that I've lost and the whole thing will have been pointless and expensive! But it isn't affordable to keep taking it. In a few years we will have even more weight loss drugs available and patents will run out on some of the existing ones, so maybe at that point I'll consider trying again.

Sadteacher · 07/09/2025 08:38

@Loopylou7219 please don’t need feel you need to justify how good you’ve been - we’ve all been in this boat! That’s why we went on mj in the first place.
I think 2lbs is a normal fluctuation when you stop taking it. Doesn’t make it any easier to accept. I would give it another week or two to settle. Try not to panic just yet x

RightImDoingThis · 07/09/2025 08:42

@Loopylou7219 that sounds really tough, and must be what most of us worry about.
Remember that there's no way you've put on 2lb of fat in a week. Surely it's most probably water retention due to changes in your body (reducing level of MJ, natural hormones etc)? If it's only 2 weeks since you last injected, you'll still have the drug in your system. At this point, I would say trust the process. Flowers

I stopped four weeks ago having gone from BMI 32.3 to BMI 26.1 in six months. My muscle tone improved significantly too because I did more exercise. I’m also lucky enough to be a tallish hourglass, so I carry it ok (although tbh it was more about health than looks for me).

It wasn’t about the price increase (I’d been using a 0% credit card which will be paid off with some of the proceeds of a house downsize soon) but I was becoming annoyed with the nausea and I’d developed a psychological aversion to the jab itself (weird, because I’m neither squeamish nor afraid of needles).

If an oral version is ever available and licensed for BMI 26 I may buy it in order to get rid of the last 9 pounds which would get my BMI to about 24.8. For now, I’m managing to maintain my current weight with 16:8 fasts, minimal snacking, and tons of gym, beach walks and golf. And the residual MJ in my system I guess.

Loopylou7219 · 07/09/2025 09:16

@RightImDoingThis and @Sadteacher thank you so much for your kind replies. It's great to have a place to be able to talk it through with other people. Talking to people irl feels like it's laced a bit with judgement or "I told you so" 😂.

It would be great to keep chatting and updating eachother on this thread. @OntheTrainX it's great to hear you've been maintaining your weight, I've read loads of posts where people succeed in doing so, just sometimes feels like my body wants to be overweight no matter what I do! I will weigh again next week and see where I'm at. @taylorswift1989 that's the worry isn't it, that the money spent would have been for nothing. The thought of going back to square one terrifies me which I'm aware probably sounds pathetic!

taylorswift1989 · 07/09/2025 09:37

It doesn't sound pathetic at all, OP! If you're anything like most people taking MJ, you've had a lifetime of "failed" diets and battles against your body. MJ is great because it gives you a break from the endless fighting against yourself. But the ideal is to make peace with your body, long term.

RightImDoingThis · 07/09/2025 13:10

I don't think it sounds pathetic either, it's a real worry of mine.

just sometimes feels like my body wants to be overweight no matter what I do!
Well, according to the set weight point theory, that's exactly what our body wants to do. That's why I think staying on a low maintenance dose for months before coming off works. It resets the body's set weight point (or "range" as I've heard some people talk about it). Coach Viva on YouTube is pretty good at explaining the set weight point, and how to deal with it. All just theory with little evidence at the moment.

I was becoming annoyed with the nausea and I’d developed a psychological aversion to the jab itself
Absolutely this. I'm three days post jab and feeling slightly nauseous and stuffed after a tiny breakfast. I reckon yesterday will be the highest level of MJ I ever have. According to Shotsy, that's 5.22. Downwards and upwards from here on.

OP posts:
Tohaveandtohold · 07/09/2025 13:38

@Loopylou7219 , as I said earlier on this thread, I’ve been off the jab for 29 weeks ( almost 7 months) and my weight fluctuates within 2lbs. My weight is currently 8lbs lower than my last MJ weight so the fluctuation does not bother me anymore now as I have a buffer however when I just stopped the jab and I saw the increase, it sent my BMI to 25 so that freaked me out so I know where you’re coming from.

However I knew wasn’t going back on any of the jabs at that time because I stopped due to a slight pain I had in my belly which was making me paranoid that it was caused by the jab so at that point I was really scared of a regain. All I did the 4th week off was drink lots more water and the 2lbs dropped and I lost another 1lb the week after and it gone down from there. I went on holiday some weeks ago and gained 3lb even though I still tried to eat healthier however I’ve lost the 3lbs already in less than 2 weeks.

I’m just maintaining now and I know it’s hard to believe that it’s possible to do it alone because I felt this way when I stopped but almost 7 months on, I’m in such a better place now, I have a good routine and seeing a 2lbs increase on the scale is not freaking me out anymore as the next weeks, it drops. I know this will always be a constant battle for me as I just can’t afford get back to where I was last year October, I weight weekly and will keep doing this for years to come and keep my eye on everything.

Discogirl23 · 07/09/2025 19:29

Thanks for starting this thread. I am two stone down and would love to stay that way. I have half a pen left and went over a week without any jobs to try and see what it’s like without but still having a safety blanket. However, at a week and a half I felt bloated and had the food noise back and I panicked that I was going backwards so took another jab. I’m
not buying any more so I’m just gonna have to get on with it! The support here is great, thanks 😊

RightImDoingThis · 07/09/2025 19:54

I've got less than half a pen left. After this weekend's nausea and fullness I'm actually looking forward to coming off. This week I'll take 3mg, then 2mg then 2mg but I might even stop sooner and throw the rest of the pen away. Me of 3 months ago would never have believed I'd say that!

OP posts:
SkibidiSigma · 07/09/2025 20:53

Slightly different for me as I was forced to stop and now unsure if I'll be able to start again or if I even want to. I took my last jab on August 14th and then on August 20th I was admitted to hospital for emergency surgery. Since then I've noticed an improvement in my mood and motivation, which both became very low on mounjaro. I also had bad fatigue but can't tell whether that has improved yet as I'm still recovering. Thing is, I have 3 whole pens in my fridge.

Either way I want to carry on losing and won't be buying anymore regardless of what I do with the ones I have. I had lost 14kg in 4 months, but still have 30+ to go 😩

EchoNova · 08/09/2025 15:01

Oh can I join too - I'v been on MJ since March and have lost 3 and 1/2 stone. WAs on 10mg for 3 months when I hit target so titreated down to 7.5mg and have 3 weeks left of that and will be coming off it completely - I might actually split the last 2 doses to 3.25mg so it will last me for 4 more weeks.

tootiredtobeinspired · 08/09/2025 15:51

@Loopylou7219 try not to freak out at the 2lb gain, my body managed a 3kg gain in 3 days! I was telling myself it had to be fluid as I hadnt even eaten 3kg worth of food but it messed with my head!

Im onto my last pen and tapering down after a 13kg loss. Like PP I have had enough of the low level nausea and gastric issues so am ready to stop. Also terrified I will gain it all back really quickly. I too have really struggled to shift weight in the past despite strict calorie counting and IF, MJ was the only thing that made it possible.

MJ122025 · 08/09/2025 16:37

@Loopylou7219do you weigh weekly or daily? If weekly you might have just randomly picked your heaviest day. Try weighing daily for a few weeks and noting it. You'll then see an overview and can note the fluctuations. Another tip is to change the numbers as in if you're a kg girl, change to stones. Or if you're stones, change to lbs only. The numbers become just numbers rather than having meaning.
