Anyone interested in a post-MJ thread? For people coming off completely?

I wondered if anyone is coming off Mounjaro completely and looking to maintain or continue losing weight?

I'm half way through my last pen and coming off earlier than planned due to the price rise and fatigue with the whole process.

Sorejaws · 04/09/2025 07:55

Fatigue as a side effect?

or fatigue with the ordering etc?

RightImDoingThis · 04/09/2025 08:33

Sorry, I meant fatigue with the whole thing - thinking about it, the financial cost, managing side effects, others’ opinions (I’m a secret jabber) etc. and unfortunately other things going on in my life now really need my attention.

(I wonder if anyone else can relate?).

How much weight have you lost? Have you reached a healthy weight?

RightImDoingThis · 04/09/2025 08:46

Have you come off the jabs @Sorejaws?

I've been off for 6 weeks I lost 3st3lb in 8 months and I'm healthy BMI now.
I still calorie count using the Nutracheck app but I've increased from 1200 to 1400 calories a day.
I weigh myself twice a week and seem to fluctuate up and down by the same 2lbs which I feel is fine. If it went any higher I would drop my calories.
The hunger came back about 3 weeks after stopping, but its manageable.
I made the decision to come off before the price increases were announced but it was never going to be a long term thing for me. I used my time taking the medication to gain control of my eating and change my habits which thankfully I successfully managed to do.
I no longer have the "food noise" which in my case was likely a sugar addiction that 8 months of clean eating has ended.

RightImDoingThis · 04/09/2025 09:45

@MagnoliaTreePetals its a great thread and I read all of the previous version too. It’s just that a lot of people there are celebrating their successes whilst working down the doses. I was wondering if anyone was in the same boat as me and fancied sharing the experience 😊.

@hayal thank you. That’s a very hope-inspiring post! It was never going to be long term for me, but I’d hoped to keep going to December.

Im eating pretty well but very curious if I’ll be able to stay clean once off the jab!

Op, what dose are you on, if you’re half way through your last pen, I’m wondering if it is better for you to titrate down slowly with the last two doses, as cold turkey is probably the absolutely hardest way to do this.

RightImDoingThis · 04/09/2025 11:55

Yeah, I’m split-dosing the last of my pen.

Nunenco · 04/09/2025 12:05

Yes please. I have binned my MJ pen with two doses left. It’s not for me. Whilst contemplating if I should try W I have now come off completely and gone back to Fast 800. So far have lost 3 pounds in just under 2 weeks so happy with that. Will see how it goes and decide if I’ll try W in a few weeks time depending on how things goes.

gimmemounjaro · 04/09/2025 12:41

Joining because while I’m still on MJ at the moment, I hope to come off it soon and definitely up for sharing experiences.

Mysticmaiden · 04/09/2025 12:59

I'm currently tapering down from 15mg and at 10mg, will keep coming down to come off due to exhaustion since the start and 11 months on, im reaching my limit of it. Interested in people's experiences. Have purchased berberine to help with appetite and lower blood sugar because I was prediabetic for years so happy to try what will help ease the transition.

Backgroundnoises · 04/09/2025 16:21

Like you the price rises were the final straw in my decision to not order another pen. There is no doubt Mounjaro has really worked for me, allowing me to shift 50lbs in 8 months. I'm probably about 1 stone away from my ideal weight and had just received a 10 mg pain the day before the announcement. I did consider buying another right away but honestly, while I'm so grateful so much weight has gone, I was beginning to weary of the low level side effects and this has helped me decide. Low energy, mild depression and nausea have never really lifted but I could tolerate them short term to lose the weight. For my last pen, I have taken 7.5 mg 10 days apart, then will move down to 2x 5.00 then eke out the rest in 2.5 doses till it's gone. I know that 16:8, staying away from ultra processed food and keeping carbs around 100g does stop me gaining weight so I'm hoping I'll be able to do that going forward..

Sadteacher · 04/09/2025 17:36

Jumping in to say hi. I’m on the other maintenance thread but I am also off completely. I stopped officially in April but have had two pens over the Summer to nip in the bud my holiday gains and now I am cold Turkey with no pens left.
I could do with losing 4/5lbs so am trying very hard not to slip into old habits. I do think it is easier as I’m so vain now I’m slim😂

RightImDoingThis · 04/09/2025 18:10

@nunencoI have been second-guessing myself today but having just jabbed I'm pretty certain I need to come off. I'm going to try finishing this pen but I can see me chucking it away before the end too.

@Mysticmaiden welcome! Check out the other thread linked above because there's a good crowd working their way down dosages. Interested in how you find the berberine but I'm soooo looking forward to not having anything 'extra' in my body.

@Backgroundnoises so much of your post felt familiar. I just want to see what it's like without the jabs in terms of energy, mood, etc. Losing the weight has been actually life-changing for me and I love the changes to my figure, blood pressure, snoring(!) etc. but I just want to see if I can get back to normal in "me".

@Sadteacher how did you fare between April and the summer back up pens? Losing another 6lb will get me below the next stone so that's my goal for Christmas.

Hello everyone I haven't name-checked - it's been a busy day at work and I've not always been able to reply properly.

SecretNameforMN · 04/09/2025 18:42

Yes, I only took one jab and have 3 left in my first pen and I have decided not to carry on with it.

Instead I shall continue with keto and intermittent fasting.

My BMI is 78.

Sadteacher · 04/09/2025 18:42

@RightImDoingThis In April I had a 2 week holiday and gained 5lbs. Lost 4lbswith a pen ( lower dose than I was usually on because of the break.)
I then had another 2 week AI holiday in July and put on another half a stone. I came back, lost 2lbs myself then took my last pen. I only lost 3lbs with this one. Again, a lowish dose and I was never a super responder.
I had stopped a few pounds before I reached my healthy bmi too so I still need to try hard to lose those last few pounds.
My weight gain both times was due to holidays which always happens. ( and why I had the two pens to use) My next tricky time will be Christmas but I am determined to keep it down to a day or two of indulgence and not my usual week or two!
I am 50 for context and weight had slowly slipped on since I was 40 despite my best efforts. I never could have come this far without mj.

I mean this very politely but are you sure you worked that out ok? 78 is well, quite concerning really.

That’s a shame Mounjaro didn’t work out for you, what happened? (Feel free not to say! But side effects often disappear quite quickly if that was the problem. Someone may have had the same experience and come out the other side. Or some people do get on better with Wegovy.)

It's terrifying being this weight. I must be the heaviest woman on the mumsnet slimmers' boards.

I'm sorry, I should have written more. No side effects; I just don't see any benefit to taking the injections. I never had what is called 'food noise' and did not realise when I bought my first pen that this is how MJ works.

I can easily keep to keto and 18/6 IF without the jabs, so why bother, especially as it's going to cost me so much every month. The money would be better spent on quality proteins, counselling, massages, etc.

gimmemounjaro · 04/09/2025 20:18

Oh I see @SecretNameforMN - well it’s not just about food noise - that’s incidental really and some people don’t see a change there, or don’t need to, like you. It works by mimicking hormones (which we have already in much smaller quantities), these signal to your brain that you’re full, slow down your digestion, and control blood glucose. The 2.5mg dose probably won’t feel like it’s doing much, it’s not really a therapeutic dose. But it might be worth trying for a bit longer, maybe a 5mg and 7.5mg pen, given how many people are managing to change their lives beyond what they thought was possible. Up to you though of course, and I do appreciate the cost is eye watering, even more so now. Could you get Mounjaro through the NHS if that is the main worry? Injections and the other things you mention would be a powerful combo imo.

Tohaveandtohold · 04/09/2025 20:20

Hi op, I’m on the other maintenance thread as well and it’s a very nice and friendly chat.
I’ve been off the jab completely since February, almost 29 weeks without the jab.
I was on the jab for 4 pens, 1 was 2.5mg and the other 3 were 5mg, lost over 3 stone and went from a BMI of just over 33 to 24.8. Since being off the jab, I’ve lost another 8lbs and my BMI has been steadily around 23.5 for over 4 months. I weigh weekly and do gain and lose the same 1 to 2 lbs without doing anything differently. I have continued to do weighted exercises 5 days a week from home and eating and snacking on the right things.
I’ve had a lovely summer being slim and I’ve booked next year’s summer holiday already keep me motivated. Also I have a goal to tone up more as my belly can do with being firmer so I focus on that when exercising which keeps me going.

It’s all routine now and all the fear I had when I just stopped have all gone as I now subconsciously make good choices when it comes to food and being active.
As another poster said, since being slim, it’s like I got more vain with fashion and all and I’m just not taking my eyes off now. Glad I stopped when I did as I would have done that now with the whole price increase thing but I just want to say just get yourself a nice routine.

'It works by mimicking hormones ... these signal to your brain that you’re full, slow down your digestion, and control blood glucose.' Keto does all these things for me.

I don't qualify for MJ on the NHS as I don't have any of the qualifying conditions. But even if I got it for free I would not want to continue because with keto I don't need anything else. I already feel better after just one week.
