Anyone interested in a post-MJ thread? For people coming off completely?

I wondered if anyone is coming off Mounjaro completely and looking to maintain or continue losing weight?

I'm half way through my last pen and coming off earlier than planned due to the price rise and fatigue with the whole process.

@RightImDoingThis sorry you’re feeling poorly but that is still great maintenance. You’ve really stabilised. I think a few pounds back on then settling sounds realistic.
I am going to stop wishing I gave myself a buffer and enjoy every day I feel healthy and confident… I’d have loved to have been this weight 18 months ago!

Sadteacher · 11/12/2025 07:31

How is everyone getting on? I realised I have settled 5 lbs above my lowest weight. I have now been Mounjaro- free for 5 months since then. I just bob up and down the same 2 lbs.
Planning strategies for Christmas. Lots of exercise being the main one.

Annebowlyn · 11/12/2025 10:24

Following, because I'm going to have to come off soon due to the cost, inspired by the folks who have done that successfully.

RightImDoingThis · 11/12/2025 11:27

I seem to be staying stable at 11st 13, so about the same settled gain as you @Sadteacher .

Welcome @Annebowlyn . I would still like to lose at least another stone so am holding out for cheaper versions.

Well done @RightImDoingThis . I’d love to be half a stone less but it’s refreshing not to be miserable about it as I’m enjoying my new healthy weight.
It still is impossible for me to lose weight without the jabs, I did try for many years. I’m glad to be maintaining though. I’ll decide if I need one or two more after Christmas.

MrsMiagi · 11/12/2025 17:30

For those who have come off, how much did you gain before you settled?
Im considering my options. I do think, in my case, it really is eat less move more. I was naive to how sedentary I am so I find my body responds to even only a bit more movement. I am however 40 so as peri comes my way I expect that will change!
I have lost weight with every single diet I have tried but i could never maintain. Not sure if I can now either, without MJ but my hair loss is so bad!

Sadteacher · 11/12/2025 17:50

@MrsMiagi i came off for a wedding and a holiday. I wanted to feel tip top for them and I was a bit fatigued on the jabs. I was 2 lbs over my target when I stopped. I put weight on through my celebrations, I wish I’d have been 4/5 lbs below my ideal weight when I stopped to give myself a buffer but I was a slow loser. As I mentioned,5 lbs or so over isnt that great a deal as a few stone a couple of years ago!

RightImDoingThis · 11/12/2025 17:53

I put on about 4 - 7lb depending on where I measure from. That's a massive proportion of my total weight loss. 1/4 to 1/3 of my MJ loss and 1/5 of my total loss since my heaviest.
I honestly think we need to be prepared for weight gain. A long, slow decrease in dosage seems to be more successful, but a combination of being fed up of the side effects and the price rise did for me.

Does anyone know which providers will allow one to go back on if you have come off and start to creep up but have not hit BMI high enough to be eligible as a new starter?

4-7lbs is muscle glycogen and water - ie normal weight fluctuation. It can be gained and lost each week.
how can that be a massive proportion?

Sadteacher · 12/12/2025 06:59

The second sentence explains perfectly why it is a massive proportion of her total weight loss.
Some people (shorties like me) only need to be a couple of stone overweight to be obese.

I came off mj. Have had a month of wegovy during which I’ve been starving and put on 4lbs. I am craving shit and waking up hungry and going to bed hungry. Have just had two boiled eggs and my stomach is still growling.

im so upset. I really miss not being hungry

How much protein are you eating per day. 2 eggs is only 12g so not surprising you are hungry.

Try eating either 30x 40g or 4 x 30g.
Also ensure eating 30g of fibre each day.

RightImDoingThis · 12/12/2025 12:36

I interpreted it that the two eggs were a middle-of-the-night solution to hunger, not her daily protein intake.

Yes.

But how much protein and fibre eaten during the day? I think (esp for those with previously bigger appetites) need to eat at upper end of protein / fibre and try to avoid “empty carbs” - even complex carbs may need limiting.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 12/12/2025 15:26

Yes, sorry I meant I’d literally just eaten two boiled eggs for breakfast about 30 mins before posting but was still starving.

so far today I’ve eaten..

2 boiled eggs

an apple

lunch was 3 chicken thigh fillets, 55g of rice and a big carrot, cucumber and cabbage salad with rice wine vinegar dressing

yoghurt

i am still starving

not sure what I’ll have for dinner. I am craving pizza. I might have carrot soup and a bread roll if I’m being good.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 12/12/2025 15:28

I am a total carb addict though and left to my own devices and with no will power I’d eat carbs over protein or fibre any day of the week. At least on mj I just wasn’t bothered about anything.

Annebowlyn · 12/12/2025 16:12

@StripeyKnickersSpottySocks
Do you have insulin resistance?, that's what makes a lot of people reach for the carbs. I too would mainline bread all day long, but it's only since reading around the science of how our bodies work that I've had more of an understanding of why. I know realistically that mj is a miracle medicine that totally changes the way we process the food, so being off it will impact not just appetite but how I metabolise what I eat, I'm using some supplements to try and mitigate, but I also lost a lot more weight than I ever intended whilst on it, because I knew quite a bit of the weight would come back once I stopped, even just inflammation. Which is what's happening.
I am managing but only by minimising carbs, full fat greek yogurt is my friend atm.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 12/12/2025 16:26

I’ve no idea if if I have insulin resistance, how would I know?

Annebowlyn · 12/12/2025 16:37

@StripeyKnickersSpottySocks
It often precursors type 2 I think, so a trip to the docs and a blood test if you have other symptoms maybe? Tired all the time,? craving carbs,? inability to lose weight was what sent my oh to docs and a blood test revealed pre diabetes.
PCOS goes hand in hand with it too I believe, which is why a lot of people who have it find it extremely difficult to lose weight without the mj.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 12/12/2025 16:51

Tired all the time rings a bell so yeah maybe. Great!

Somethingsnapped · 12/12/2025 17:33

I've read the whole thread, and I'd like to join too if I may? I'm currently on MJ as I haven't yet reached my goal, but I always intended to only do a shortish stint on it, and not to continue for maintenance. I've been on it for 16 weeks and lost about 2 stone. I'd like to lose another stone or stone and a half. That would take me to 11 st 7 lbs, so similar to you op. Ive forgotten, have you said how tall you are? I'm 5'8". Once there, I want to come off it too.

Reading your updates was interesting op, as I've done a lot of lurking on the WLI boards, and your experience does seem similar to many others who came off, in that they gained a few lbs relatively quickly, but then it seemed to settle. So as others have said, water weight and inflammation in reaction to quitting the meds, but then some stability afterwards. It's actually the reason I'm aiming for 11 st 7lbs. I always thought I'd aim for 12 st, but a half stone buffer might be a good idea.

So I'm sorry I can't contribute much yet with my own experience, but I do intend to do this, and reading the posts here is very helpful. I'm very invested in your experience op, as you're at my goal weight! Really hoping all goes super well for you (and everyone else too of course).

Welcome @Somethingsnapped ! I really appreciate any supportive comments (I’m surprised the thread has been quite adversarial at times!).
I’m 5ft 5.5 😊

Only a couple of inches height difference between us then! My goal weight is still very slightly in the overweight category if I aim for 12 stone after the initial settling down period after coming off MJ. But I remember feeling good at that weight. I'm quite muscly (legs mostly), with sturdy bones, and feel slim at that weight. I wouldn't want to go much lower at this age (nearly 50). I need to keep some face/body balance!

Your posts have been very helpful, because hopefully I won't panic with gaining some pounds after stopping the jabs. It does seem to be normal at first, while your body settles down again. How are you feeling now? You sound like you're doing very well with the exercise too.
