Mounjaro/Wegovy with >5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 10!

MooBaggage · 22/08/2025 15:21

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Kiwis and milled flaxseed are still the order of the day, along with water, posh scales, weight loss charts (thank you Infosec!), Vinted and even more water...

We're coping with the Mounjaro palavers and hoping that somehow, we will all still be able to carry on with this amazing journey which is working so well for most of us.

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

Good to see you back on the thread and sorry you're having a difficult time right now, @Darlinghag . And I hope the rage subsides, @InfoSecInTheCity . Excellent NSV, @alltablenochairs .

I am all over the place with my jab and weigh days at the moment because I keep being away on Mondays. This week it was down to a short break in a nice hotel with DH. Much easier than the work jaunt to manage my eating properly and still enjoy the (very good) food and a little bit of wine. Also we walked for miles around Colchester Zoo on Monday. 😁Anyway I'm down another lb so that's ok.

SW 17st 4
CW 13st 3
GW 11-12st

It will be 28 weeks this coming Monday. I'll start my first 10mg pen on Saturday, and push my jab day back to its normal Mondayness from there.

Emas82 · 01/10/2025 09:12

Good morning all. I don't post very often but I thought it would be nice to write things down, and I know what a good bunch you are.

The last few weeks have been very busy for me, working away during the week so hotels and limited food choices.

I managed to have an overall loss, despite eating a far amount of junk, but I tried to ensure I wasn't having food delivered via Uber everyday! Some days I would interject with just some sushi (I work for a supermarket but doing training, hence the time away). I do love the sushi from Sushi Daily, even better when I can claim it on expenses!

SW. 15st 8lbs
CW. 13st 12lbs
TW. ?? I'm short (5ft 1in) and to be a healthy BMI I would need to get down to something like under 9.5 st which seems unachievable!

I started at the end of June. I think I'm losing sensibly. Still on 2.5mg and don't really want to go to 5mg (cost) so I'm currently injecting every 6 days as a compromise, which seems to have done the trick.

Love reading here and keeping up with everyone, you guys are really motivating!

GiveMeWordGames · 01/10/2025 09:24

@Emas82 you're doing really well! Especially if you've had a lot of being away for work and all the challenges associated with that. As you can see, I found 3 days tough!! It's also really impressive that you're managing all this on 2.5 stretched over 6 days. I remember when you first posted your thread in June, unsure whether to give it a go or not. I'm so glad you did.

Never say never when it comes to having a target/goal. I've stuck with a range rather than one figure because I simply don't know what I'll look and feel like at a weight I haven't seen for 25+ years. But what feels distant and unachievable in the early months will start to feel more reachable as you keep on going. Three months ago, could you have imagined you'd be nearly 2 stone down by Autumn?

Thanks so much 😊
How lovely of you to remember! Yes I'm so glad I made the jump. I was hoping I might inspire one of my sister's, but I'm still working on it.
I'm feeling much better in myself. Still not happy with how I look, avoiding photos and such.
One happy side effects I'm feeling, is on injection day and the day after, I feel really focused. Like I can get more work done, not get distracted etc (possibly helping the undiagnosed adhd 🤦). Any else experienced this?

One of the people I know IRL who has been on MJ for over a year now has adult-diagnosed ADHD and she has said it had a huge impact on her ability to concentrate and other symptoms. Even though she was already on ADHD meds when she started MJ.

Also, to put your goal into context a bit, I'm 3 months ahead of you. When you started I was just over 2 stone down with a not dissimilar total amount to lose (5-6st to get to a healthy BMI). I'm now less than 1.5 st from my goal range and suddenly it really does seem achievable. You've got this.

QueenOfHiraeth · 01/10/2025 13:01

@Emas82 You are doing really well! As @GiveMeWordGames said, keep going forward and you will find your way.

I don't want to bring this thread down but, years ago, I read a really heartfelt post on MN from a young woman who had just lost her mother and was obviously grief-stricken. One of the things that was really upsetting for her and the family was the sudden realisation that there were hardly any photos of her mum. She said it was only at that point they realised that her mum always avoided being in pics or took the photo and she had posted begging others to just be in the picture and to try to see ourselves with the love our family would see us with. This would have been before the days of smartphones so, hopefully, less of an issue nowadays but that post really had an impact on me.
I hated the way I looked fat in photos when I was a size 24 and now, almost 6st down, hate that I look saggy or older but I doubt anyone else cares so I'm just going to be in the damn picture anyway!

Hope all of you lot will too Grin

MooBaggage · 01/10/2025 13:15

0.5lb down today, but I'm not recording it as nothing under 1lb interests me 😃

But I can announce an NSV.....

I bought a multi-pack of size 16 knickers yesterday from Asda AND THEY FIT!!!

I had to take a moment driving back - this is the first size 16 anything I've got any of me in since the year 2000, when I bought size 16 stuff (including for a good friend's wedding, hence remembering the year!), but it turned out I was really poorly with Graves disease, and losing weight because of that - once diagnosed and treated, the weight all went back on 🙄

So, 25 years and I'm in size 16 pants for a good reason...!!

Obvs my gorgeous size 18 Joe Browns jeans still don't fit - but am choosing to ignore that for the moment....

OP posts:
AnneinEdinburgh · 01/10/2025 13:38

Well done @MooBaggage ! Enjoy your lovely small new pants!!!

I have been away for 4 days and seem to have put on 4lbs, but I am telling myself this isn't possible and will disapear again. How many thousand calories would I have to eat each day to do that!

Onwards and downwards! xx

MooBaggage · 01/10/2025 13:41

@AnneinEdinburgh Thanks! And yes, it will be water retention - I had a bit of a heavy weekend last week and had 'put on' 3lb by the Monday morning - definitely hadn't eaten or drank that much in calories, but had had more alcohol than usual and not enough water (idiot!). By today it's all gone plus 0.5lb off - literally because I've spent the last 48 hours drinking water - my eating's back to normal and no alcohol. Life seems so much easier on MJ in this respect - the balance can always be found, thankfully!

TW-mention of ill health

Happy MJ-versary to me. A year or so ago I sstarted MJ after a consultant made it very plain to me (I elicited the conversation btw) that if I didnt do something then the next time I got unwell would be the time I ended up on the other side of the light. I'd rather like to be here for my kids 18th birthdays. Major step for me as I am hugely needle phobic. However I thought I'd try it and see. Only my DH and my bestie know about the MJ.

In a year I have:

Gone from a clothing size 24 to a 16 (wish my boobs would shrink though!). I havent been a 16 since my early 20's.

Gone from a BMI of 45 to a BMI of 32.4

Lost 37 kilos

Lost about 6 inches off my bum

Lost the equivalent of my 12 year old. Who complains that when he lap rides his 'bum bones' arent comfy (he has LD and presents as much younger than he is btw)

Its not all been rainbows and unicorns though. The main symptoms I have struggled with is being permanently cold which then gets painful. This is in part due to other medical issues however the MJ has turbocharged it. I find this somewhat hard to manage at times.

While I dont get appetite suppression as such I do get a total indifference to food. This has also extended to a total indifference to drinking as well and unless I make a conscious choice to drink more then I dont. I need to drink as much as possible as the MJ has tanked my blood pressure which then affects other aspects of my health.

There are also issues with affordability as I am on 15mg. Thanks Trump for shafting me and countless others. Did I forget to mention I think you're a prick?

Where will I be in a year's time? I dont know. Will I have a healthy BMI? I don't know. Do I even have an end goal in mind? Nope. Am I expecting to be on MJ long term? Yes.

So here's to the next year!

MooBaggage · 01/10/2025 14:57

@alltablenochairs Happy Anniversary!! What a year...! I am so impressed by your tenacity and the BMI and weight drop is incredible.

This time next year, we'll still be on this thread, electric throws up to the maximum (I'm currently wrapped up in mine!), at healthy BMIs, reminiscing about the olden times, when MJ was cheaper and our electricity bills weren't quite so extortionate - but we'll be here and we will have made it to target weight - I have absolutely no doubt of that.

Congratulations again and I hope you celebrate in some way or other - it's well deserved 😍👏

I am 5ft 2 shortie. I started at 16 stone 12 in November 24 and am now 10 stone 7lb. I am hoping to hit the 9s by December and then end up around 9.7.

So keep plodding downwards 💪🏻

Thank you all for the replies, such a lovely bunch 😘

I got down to 10st 3lbs in 2021 🤦 slimming world. As soon as I stopped the stupid diet it all went back on.

I tried to go without the wli many times over the last few years, but after a couple of weeks I just couldn't budge anything, and was constantly thinking about my next fix (food!)

alwaysscared · 02/10/2025 10:54

Morning all, today I have hit 80lbs off, another 4lbs until I’m at 6 stone off!
I’m going to reduce from 6.25mg to 5mg, purely because I have been feeling really nauseous and out of sorts for a couple of weeks, so I’m going to trial going down to 5, see if that helps. My husband thinks that now my body is smaller, maybe it can’t handle a higher dose?! Do you guys think that could be a reason??

gimmemounjaro · 02/10/2025 11:03

Happy anniversary @alltablenochairs

@alwaysscared I suddenly became more susceptible to side effects as I got smaller - I’m not sure of the mechanism, whether it’s as simple as smaller body = greater effect, or whether it’s to do with time spent on the meds or hormones or whatever - but I’ve seen others say the same thing so it does happen! Funnily enough mine came at about 6st down too.

alwaysscared · 02/10/2025 11:12

@gimmemounjaro ah, interesting! I’m hoping a drop down will help

gimmemounjaro · 02/10/2025 11:19

alwaysscared · 02/10/2025 11:12

That worked for me. Side effects arrived at 10mg, which I had been on for months with no problem. Now on 6.8mg and they’ve gone again 👍

HumBumBum · 02/10/2025 21:07

Oh I hope it’s common to need less in a smaller body, I can afford 2.5mg but not 7.5mg (and am just 1lb behind @alwaysscaredin numbers!)

alwaysscared · 02/10/2025 21:10

@HumBumBum 🤞 for you! I’ll let you know how I get on. Have injected 5mg tonight

gimmemounjaro · 02/10/2025 21:20

I am definitely getting a similar effect on 6-7mg as I was on 10mg, a bit stronger if anything I think. It’s hard to remember though. Long may it last!

ShrankLastWinter · 02/10/2025 21:30

Body size isn’t supposed to be a factor for MJ dosage. And some very large people have strong effects at a low dose, while others with less to lose don’t feel effects until higher doses.

But that said, I also think I feel it more now I’m smaller, and I’ve had more side effects since reaching a healthy weight (only very mild stuff like a runny tummy from time to time, but nonetheless more). Hopefully this will make it easier to reduce the dose, which I need to start doing soon.

gimmemounjaro · 02/10/2025 21:53

Everyone is so different - the interesting thing is not that someone small is getting side effects when someone large isn’t, but that someone small is getting side effects that they themselves didn’t get when they were bigger. I don’t expect it’s as simple as a direct correlation with size though, it’s such a complex thing.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if it’s because our natural weight management systems are resetting and we are now effectively not obese and can no longer tolerate these high doses of GLP1s.

I expect I will be back to earth with a bump soon enough as I keep reducing 🫠

MooBaggage · 03/10/2025 09:26

1lb down yesterday, so am edging closer to a BMI of 31 and the lesser spotted 14 stones...

13.1.25 SW 20st 3lbs BMI 43
2.9.25 CW 15st 1lbs BMI 32.1

Loss of 72lbs over 37 weeks so far!

But more importantly.... I think I've reversed my sleep apnoea!!!! 😊

My CPAP machine's been playing up for a while - I think there's a crack or leak in it, so I stopped using it 2 x nights ago as the noise of it was driving me mad, and I slept fine but was on my own so didn't know if I was snoring/stopping breathing. Last night I was with dp (who also had sleep apnoea and uses a CPAP, so knows what he's looking out for ) and he's told me this morning that I didnt snore or stop breathing at all!! The apnoea was very bad when I was diagnosed 3 years ago - I had a sleep trial which showed I stopped breathing on average 20 times an hour...

My watch also gives me O2 stats and reported no apnoea last night or the night before...!

Am beyond excited if this keeps going - to be free of the machine will be bloody amazing. I'm going to keep tracking via do and my watch and hopefully not ever have to go back to the machine....

OP posts:
AnneinEdinburgh · 03/10/2025 10:49

I hate to say it but I am having the least side effects of all on 15mg.

The 4lbs I put on over the weekend away have now of course gone hooray!

Incidentally if anyone wants really nice and thick wide legged jeans, and only £12 in the sale, the Next black carpenter wide leg jeans are great.

(no that isn't me in the pic of course!) I have got lots of compliments and they fit really well - I am a size 16 down from a 20, and whilst I have a fairly neat top and waist I have large thighs. These are the best jeans I have had.

Onwards and downwards all and stay safe for those of us in storm Amy territory

xx

That's fab. I was on the waiting list for a sleep study when I started MJ and the snoring stopped so I cancelled it, slept much better.

I wonder if you could get another sleep study done to check and you might not need the machine anymore?
