Mounjaro/Wegovy with >5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 10!

MooBaggage · 22/08/2025 15:21

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Kiwis and milled flaxseed are still the order of the day, along with water, posh scales, weight loss charts (thank you Infosec!), Vinted and even more water...

We're coping with the Mounjaro palavers and hoping that somehow, we will all still be able to carry on with this amazing journey which is working so well for most of us.

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

I saw that article @MooBaggage and rolled my eyes hard. It’s loose skin from weight loss fullstop, and there are lots of factors involved of course.

I mean, I know that my stomach is going to be a bit of a disaster area, but that will be from pregnancies, c-section and having been obese for over a decade. But no, let’s just blame it on WLI. Lazy journalism.

Also, I didn’t think the photos in the story looked bad at all. I know it’s all relative though and people feel how they feel.

gimmemounjaro · 20/09/2025 14:50

Interesting post @gimmemounjaro , do you think the reduced weight increase on holiday is because what feels like "copious amounts of food" has reduced, or because your body, with support from Mounjaro, is dealing with it better? Probably still too early days to answer!

I have been trying to figure this out @WeAllHaveWings

I think copious definitely doesn’t mean what it used to. I rarely eat breakfast at home and kept that up, it didn’t really occur to me to eat before late morning, so that’s one thing. I didn’t fancy pudding at the Korean place or at Nando’s and I would have done before. Plus I think I fill up faster than before, so I get the “aaargh I’ve overeaten” uncomfortable feeling on less food and stop eating sooner. Which I imagine is the MJ, so might mean that if I were to try coming off it, I wouldn’t get that full feeling until I’d eaten a lot more 😬

I do think that some of it is just MJ doing its thing, I would have gained more than 1.8lbs on that amount of food before I think, although obvs most of it would come straight off again if I could switch behaviours. That’s a big if of course. Or maybe - I am almost daring to hope that my body actually quite likes being this weight and has adopted it as a new set point, so when I eat a bit too much, all the various weight maintenance systems kick in to prevent a gain, like speeding up metabolism etc. That would be amazing if true, and might last beyond MJ.

My main worry is that at times I had no brakes at all between an urge and eating crap, just like before. I got the idea of a packet of minstrels and there was no way I was capable of deciding not to have them, there wasn’t even a moment where that was an option. So that was a bit scary. Maybe controlling my environment is always going to be a big part of maintenance, as well as accepting these occasional off piste moments as just one of those things and then getting on with it again as soon as I can.

I’m doing ok today, definitely having snacky thoughts but finding it relatively easy not to succumb so far. Very interesting watching what my body and brain are up to and trying to navigate it as best I can, I was expecting maintenance to be hard!

This really annoys me - it's not news, so why is the BBC publishing rubbish like this...

I saw this too. So many articles that claim to be about WLI, but are actually just about weight loss. It’s just that this is the first time lots of people have been successful at losing weight at one time.

WeAllHaveWings · 20/09/2025 15:09

The points you raise @gimmemounjaro are similar ones I worry about.

The "copious" amounts are currently altered, but how easily will it be for the quantities to slowly creep up unnoticed when not in the weight loss mindset.

Impulse moments are fine, and going with them ok, if they stay occasional, but will they stay that way or cravings multiple times a day coming back.

Sustaining them long term (years), even if set point is reset, will mean ongoing active monitoring - to easy to become passive. But I think since we have all made it so far this time, we know we have the support - Mounjaro and each other, we are motivated to do it!

It is great hearing how you are getting on 6 weeks into maintenance, I'll be watching and learning from your experience for when I get there hopefully in 2-3 months.

Hahahahahaha @Reginaphalangeeeee Never in my life has anyone used the word dainty in association with me - thank you!! 😁🥰

I can't remember who was talking about face brushes - can anyone recommend them/ any kind in particular? I feel the need to try one 🙄😬

It was me. They are advertised on instagram but cheap on amazon. The effect doesn’t seem to be permanent but I’ve been doing it morning & night for a week ish & it makes a big difference. Especially nice it perks my eyes up. Easy addition to my fairly minimal self care routine

WeAllHaveWings · 20/09/2025 15:15

Just read that article @MooBaggage .

I cannot believe there is much difference, for loose skin, between loosing say 8st in 1 year with the help of WLI + waiting a year for skin improvement vs losing 8st over 2 years.

The tiny part at the end where "Laura" saying it completely changed her life is the part that should be getting the bigger emphasis in the article instead of putting obese people off taking control of their health even if there are some downsides the benefits significantly outweigh them! I really don't understand why the media is so anti-WLI.

Evenstar · 20/09/2025 15:28

My Snag bra has arrived and it’s great, such a difference compared to my bralettes, but definitely more comfortable than traditional bras and it’s put my bust line up away from the tummy. DH thought my waist looked much smaller with it on ☺️

NSV at Asda, bought a new sweatshirt and I needed a large not an XL or the 2XL I would have needed in the past (I lost some weight before starting Mounjaro last year definitely would have been 2XL before that)

gimmemounjaro · 20/09/2025 15:28

Yes @WeAllHaveWings I feel like these first few days back at home are very significant - either I will settle back into the routine or I won’t. I gave up smoking 18 months ago and one of the little psychological tricks is to work out how much smoking for the rest of your life would cost, and then that becomes the cost of your next cigarette. Because just having one is not really possible. So do you want to spend £100k on a single cigarette or not? It feels a bit like that in that my choices now will have repercussions. I could quite easily nip out for some snacks, they are on my mind a bit, but I feel like that would mean no, I can’t have a few days off here and there without disrupting the whole process for ever. And given that I think staying on the straight and narrow for ever with no lapses at all would be impossible (unlike staying off the fags)… the stakes feel quite high.

The good news is that it’s making me more determined, rather than thinking what I would have before - aargh this is so stressful, I can’t do it, might as well just give up now, I’ve broken the diet anyway, another day won’t matter etc etc. All convoluted ways of finding a way to justify eating the crap I guess. And exactly how I ended up regaining weight at the first opportunity after losing it before.

QueenOfHiraeth · 20/09/2025 15:39

@MooBaggage @WeAllHaveWings I follow that girl Emilly on TikTok and she is very open that she lost 5-6stone by dieting alone then another 5-6stone using MJ so, even being relatively young, she is bound to have loose skin. She is also very positive about it being a small price to pay for better health

@gimmemounjaro I have just had a holiday, we were away with friends who are the kind of people who like breakfast in a little bakery, lunch at the pool bar then eat out in a nice restaurant at night (that's not mentioning the sangria, wine and cocktails!) so I ate differently and more than at home. When I came back I had gained 4-5lb but 3 of that went without any fuss over the next few days so was, presumably fluid. I do wonder if MJ is making us more "normal" instead of grabbing every calorie

Just being lazy and saving myself looking back, can anyone recommend a heated throw please. Ideally from Amazon or high street place. It would be a nice birthday gift for my friend

GiveMeWordGames · 20/09/2025 15:56

In general, reporting on MJ is atrocious and that article is a very good example!

It's interesting hearing your experiences out of routine @gimmemounjaro. I think you've done bloody well! I've got my first test of this. Aforementioned 3 day work trip. Actually the food is a bit uninspiring and repetitive so I'm not hugely worried about that, and also I jabbed today before leaving. It's more having to eat later than I normally do, even accounting for the 1hr time difference, and then being up early. I certainly won't be going to breakfast.

Anyway I've already NOT bought myself my usual almond croissant at Eurostar pret so I'll take that win. Also I'm wearing a cross body bag I haven't used in months and I had to shorten the strap loads, because it was bashing around my thighs. 🤣

UnimaginableWindBird · 20/09/2025 16:01

These heated throws are nice. I have the Alaskan Husky and the herringbone mustard velvet ones. They are on sale on the website, but you can generally find some in Amazon and John Lewis and various other shops.

WeAllHaveWings · 20/09/2025 16:35

Well done on stopping the cigs @gimmemounjaro 18 months is a massive achievement, 18 months it is still in the danger zone and so easily to slip back into it, I stopped smoking in my mid 30's, 22 years ago (just before I got pg with ds), it took a good 3-4 years before the cravings when I saw/smelt others smoking actually disappeared. Now the smell makes me nauseous! Keep going - it is so so worth it when those cravings disappear for good.

You are right, food is so woven into our lives and culture there will be, not so much "lapses", but times when we make the decision to enjoy a special meal, a holiday, an event, or just social occasion and we need to be able to do that without remorse, the trick may be keeping that control where it is a choice and also a choice to also eat our new way 90% of the time.

These are the ones we have too. One is 2 yrs old other a year old both work perfectly still

Appikate · 20/09/2025 18:36

Just a little win from my end as not sure who to tell. I am no longer severely obese... I'm just plain obese! Now another 27kg to being overweight which feels unachievable but hoping we can get there.

SW 114.4kg
CW 105.9kg
GW 70kg which would still make me in the overweight category, but don't think I've been below this weight since I was around 18.

I know! The focus is always negative. The media is bloody obsessed with Ozempic face, ozempic arse, ozempic vulva, people in hospital etc. oh and as for Nadine Dorries and her ChatGPT MJ stories in the Daily Fail - it’s painful.

The media treats us like idiots. The editors probably get the juniors or work experience kids to write the WLI stories. Of course we know that if we lose a lot of weight there will be loose skin and the older and more we have to lose the more likely it is to happen. 🙄

dimples76 · 20/09/2025 21:03

Weigh in yesterday 99.9kg (SW 129kg) woo hoo! Half way to my target weight.

I went to Diggerland this evening with a charity that supports DS. It was pouring down with rain and I was v glad that I had my size 18 waterproof trousers that I have not been able to wear for years on and in fact they're too baggy.

QueenOfHiraeth · 20/09/2025 21:12

I have had friends worked in media and some of their tales have really opened my eyes. One worked for a national tabloid back in the 80s, quite highly ranked, and tells us how they had "dirt" on so many celebs, politicians, etc yet released it on some but not others based on orders from up high. Made me realise even back then how corrupt the world was.
Another was editor of a local newspaper from the days when they had a team of journalists, photographers and contributors who would go out and interview, investigate, etc through the team dwindling down and them relying more and more on the public submitting their own stories, finally retiring as the newspaper became part of a syndicated group that makes a jigsaw of a few local stories, stuff nicked from social media and national but trash stories.
I saw a link on TT recently from a poster who intrigues and irritates me in equal measures. She was featured in the "Scum" and was telling people to submit stories to papers as she got £250 for hers. True journalism is dead!

I have always fancied going there! Is it good?

dimples76 · 20/09/2025 22:31

@QueenOfHiraeth my kids love it. It is pretty pricey but carers are free and our Area Disability Leisure Group takes it over for 2 evenings a year and the tickets are £10. I enjoy it too - this big kid enjoys using the excavator!

Arglefraster · 20/09/2025 22:44

Oh that's fantastic @Appikate! Next stop overweight🎉

Double digits @dimples76 🎉

I won't read any of the "oh no fat people are still not allowed normality even after they've lost weight - let's all point" 🙄 articles far fewer articles about all the good wli seem to be doing our bodies in addition to weightloss I notice!!!

UnimaginableWindBird · 21/09/2025 06:06

Congrats to @dimples76 and @Appikate !
