Mounjaro/Wegovy with >5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 10!

MooBaggage · 22/08/2025 15:21

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Kiwis and milled flaxseed are still the order of the day, along with water, posh scales, weight loss charts (thank you Infosec!), Vinted and even more water...

We're coping with the Mounjaro palavers and hoping that somehow, we will all still be able to carry on with this amazing journey which is working so well for most of us.

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

@Arglefraster @MooBaggage I agree completely that some of these articles are awful but the perpetrators are often the people, largely women, featured in them who are feeding them to the media. It's a bit like a "black mirror" episode, they are so flushed with their own success that they punch downwards. I am equally fascinated and appalled by some I see on Insta and Tiktok

On the other hand, I quite like Emilly, from the BBC article and saw she has just posted (I've paraphrased this): "You may have seen I've been featured on BBC online talking about loose skin and I think it's important to put it out there. I hear a lot "it puts me off losing weight" but loose skin should never put you off losing weight. Loose skin is always the better option to have than being obese, overweight, unhappy, morbidly obese. I would do it again in a heartbeat even if somebody had a time machine and said this is what your body's going to look like and you are going to have to have surgery which you might not be able to afford, I would still do it again because I am healthier, I am happier, I am more confident. I can hide my skin and so can you, if you don't want surgery or can't afford it, there's always ways around it and loose skin is always better than the alternative"

How do you think my GP would react if I booked an appointment to consult them before starting to eat kiwis? 🤣

"It is advised, however, to consult your doctor to ensure that the nutrients and vitamins in kiwis don’t interfere with any existing health conditions or medications."

The world has gone disclaimer mad! 🤪

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/09/2025 14:09

That is completely bonkers advice after lots of great advice

I know! 🤣🤣🤣

I assume due to the super special kiwi enzymes that could interfere with some meds? Like bromelain in pineapple??

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/09/2025 14:13

Some people are allergic to 🥝🥝. It’s quite common.

Arglefraster · 21/09/2025 14:15

@QueenOfHiraethI think I would argue though that the women in these articles are not the ones with the power (& I've always assumed that some people are just excited to get their 15 minutes & £100 rather than punching down😃)

100% on board with loose skin as far better than the other option! I want to be able to do pull ups & pistol squat- extra skin won't stop me but the extra weight should as hell does!

Ross Geller for one, iirc 😂

Yes - including my uncle who emigrated to NZ nearly 50 years ago! Allergic to nothing else before or since🤣

A GP can't tell if someone is allergic though, unless the article wants us all to take a kiwi along to eat in front of the GPs🤣 oh imagine the GP's face!

peachesarenom · 21/09/2025 14:21

Hi everyone! I took my first injection last night of wegovy/semaglutide, I feel nauseous already!

Any tips for a new starter? It's a long road ahead.

I'll make sure to mention that when I try to book the appointment 😉

@RobinEllacotStrike tells me kiwis will help me 💩can you check if I am allergic please before I try one?😁

Think the receptionist might tell me to go PIVOT! 🤣

They need to bring the laugh emoji back!

WeAllHaveWings · 21/09/2025 14:41

Welcome to the thread @peachesarenom

I would try to stick to small frequent meals if you feel nauseous, avoid fatty or rich foods, or very sweet, try to eat cleanly, eat slowly/chew well - it really does help. Focus on protein, reduced carb meals. Gentle walks might help. Track in the first few weeks food for calories/macro and side effects, both to make sure you are eating enough/to your calorie deficit and you might spot triggers for any side effects.

Try to stay hydrated sipping water - but if feeling nauseous don't jump straight to >2L of water if you are not used to that amount, build up gradually.

It may just be the food you ate yesterday was a bit too heavy. The first few weeks can be tough for some for side effects while your body and your habits adjust to the medication.

Speak to your local pharmacist for anti sickness/nausea remedies to help you if you need them for the first few weeks.

Hope you feel better soon.

Arglefraster · 21/09/2025 14:46

Hi @peachesarenom
The only times I've had problems with nausea have been because I hadn't eaten or because some food was too rich/fatty very close to jag day. I've found pepto bismol to work wonders (despite tasting like germoline smells 👀)

you'll figure out what works best for you & hopefully it will be plain sailing from there😃

peachesarenom · 21/09/2025 14:46

Thank you @WeAllHaveWings !

peachesarenom · 21/09/2025 14:47

Yes @Arglefraster ! I needed to eat, I feel better now!

gimmemounjaro · 21/09/2025 14:47

Welcome @peachesarenom! You’ll find lots of support available on this lovely thread, there are posters at all stages of the weight loss journey from newbie to maintenance.

My tips would be - eat plenty of protein and not too many carbs or processed foods, drink plenty of water, try to move a bit if you can. And try to enjoy the process of caring for yourself and pursuing a healthy life 💪
The rest will more than likely look after itself.

Try not to worry about side effects but if they do come there will be someone who has been there and can suggest ways to help. Good luck!

Oh and don’t panic if you take a bit of time to get going. I don’t know much about Wegovy but my first month on Mounjaro was very disappointing. It soon picked up though. Everyone is different so try not to have too many expectations based on other people’s experiences, you just have to sit back, keep your fingers crossed and see what happens.

peachesarenom · 21/09/2025 14:49

Thanks @gimmemounjaro ! I'm a bit worried about the protein situation because I'm a vegetarian! I have bought some protein powder but it looks gross!

Hurrah!

read @gimmemounjaro's lovely wise message at least a couple of times, the not comparing bit is so important!

Try some clear protein such as from MyProtein (they do sample packs of different flavours) - it is just like drinking diluting juice - I can't stomach the thick, milkshake consistency ones either.

Protein will be more challenging as a vegetarian, but it is really important for your health, try chatGPT for ideas (picture)

InfoSecInTheCity · 21/09/2025 15:20

Hi @peachesarenom I’ve just celebrated my 1 yr on Mounjaro anniversary and besides feeling cold even on hot days have been lucky and haven’t had any side effects.

My tips are:

  • drink loads of water, more than you think you need, 2lts a day is the sweet spot for me. Your body uses it in the chemical process of breaking down fat, it also uses it to heal muscle tears caused by exercise. If you dont get enough your weight loss will stall.
  • Eat! Lots of people seem to use MJ as a way to stick to 500 calories a day which is frankly stupid. If you starve yourself you’ll lose weight sure, but you’ll be weak, tired, your hair will fall out, your nails will break, your skin will be crap and you’ll feel ill. Calculate your TDEE and eat about 500 less than that.
  • Protein is good, I prefer getting it from food than shakes but if you struggle then shakes work. Boiled eggs, Longley farm full fat cottage cheese, quark, full fat Greek yoghurt, beans, lentils, chickpeas
  • If you are stuck for ideas use chat gpt, tell it how many calories you want to eat a day, any allergies or dislikes, the fact you are vegetarian and ask it to create a 7 day meal plan with 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. It can provide recipes and even a shopping list. If you take a photo of your fridge and cupboard contents it will give you ideas based on what you have in the house.
  • start doing exercise now, doesn’t have to be big and scary, a 20 min walk or get some hand weights and do arm exercises while the kettle boils. You’ll be surprised by how quickly your strength and stamina builds and it’s another way to measure success
  • keep your photos and take measurements. There will be weeks when the scales don’t move but your waistline will decrease. Having non-scale ways to see your progress really helps. If you don’t have a tape measure use a belt or bit of string and mark it regularly to see the changes.

Above all just keep going. If it feels like it’s not working just keep going and it will you just have to be consistent.

A year ago I was in size 22 clothes, just diagnosed as diabetic, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, everything hurt and I was so tired, basically falling apart and on a short path to a heart attack or stroke in my early 40s. Today I’m a size 10/12, normal cholesterol, normal BP, regularly at the gym, diabetes in remission and feel fab.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 21/09/2025 16:41

Best of luck starting this journey @peachesarenom, it’s amazing how even small losses each week quickly add up.

As well as 🥝, adding chia seeds to meals like overnight oats is a good way to keep your fibre up and keep your digestion moving.

Drinking enough water is the real biggie, I always feel much better and my weight loss is more consistent when I keep my water levels up. I can’t remember who said it on another thread, but think of drinking water as your new job 😀

UnimaginableWindBird · 21/09/2025 16:41

Hello @peachesarenom, I'm a fellow newbie on here! I started on Mounjaro just over two weeks ago. My top tip for protein is M&S protein yogurts, which are delicious, have very simple ingredients, and have 25g protein per pot.

I've been reading a book called something like "The 30g plan" which I've found very helpful for getting enough fibre and protein in my meals. But the first few weeks are probably best spent working out what works for you, and whether you will feel better eating little and often or bigger meals spaced out, and what foods make you feel bad, and how your tastes change.

peachesarenom · 21/09/2025 16:42

Thanks @WeAllHaveWings I will try! I'll have some eggs tonight!

@InfoSecInTheCity that's really inspiring! I'm a size 22 at the moment!

peachesarenom · 21/09/2025 16:45

@ANutAsBigAsABoulder I have kiwis in at the moment so can start today!

@UnimaginableWindBird thanks for the recommendations! I'll pop in to M&S!
