Mounjaro/Wegovy with >5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 10!

MooBaggage · 22/08/2025 15:21

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Kiwis and milled flaxseed are still the order of the day, along with water, posh scales, weight loss charts (thank you Infosec!), Vinted and even more water...

We're coping with the Mounjaro palavers and hoping that somehow, we will all still be able to carry on with this amazing journey which is working so well for most of us.

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

I've been in sandals for so long I don't know if my feet are perhaps a bit smaller now. They are slimmer but still long, so I will need to do my laces up tighter when I get my boots out very soon.

Those clogs sound lovely @Zebracat - I bought a pair years ago but found they didn't work with my slightly dodgy ankle (though improved with yoga & weightloss). They have straps around the ankle and that really didn't work with the hard inflexible sole. I have such fond memories of having clogs as a young teen and being gutted when I grew out of them. They were red while & blue - no strap!

I really hate new shoe issues AFTER you've worn them outside & they can't be returned. It gets expensive for those of us with funny feet. I've sworn off "cheap shoes" and buy more expensive brands now which has proved to be a good strategy and probably cheaper in the long run.

gimmemounjaro · 12/09/2025 18:07

There are often clogs on Vinted, I got a lovely pair of platform Swedish Hasbeens that make me feel like I’m in ABBA

Joining the big feet support group - I'm a 43. I went up half a size with each of my pregnancies and did half-hope that they might go back down with my weight loss but it was not to be and I need to re-home the 42s sitting hopefully in my wardrobe. With apologies in advance to your bank balances I highly, HIGHLY recommend Otto and Ivy for really beautiful shoes.

having a little Friday evening giggle as I imagine V has 6 children and worked her way from a happy size 6 to a "difficult" 9 🤣👢

WeAllHaveWings · 12/09/2025 18:10

Are we on to feet now? That is next on my list. I was walking about today in my well loved size 6 wide fit ankle boots that are now a touch too roomy!

This week I have had a week of clothes NSVs, fitted in to size 14 denims last week, this week I bought some size 16 tops and they fit - though still need to be baggy styles at front to hide the upper B belly squishy apron.

The didriksons size 18 coat looked good, just slightly roomy so ordered a 16 to try which fitted much better with a slimmer silhouette (and I found it somewhere £50 cheaper too!) - and I've ordered the Erika one you were going for @alltablenochairs to try for colder days, it arrives on Monday.

The biggest surprise this week was moving from my relatively new 38GG bras to 32H - I was originally a 42HH so that is a massive 10" band change overall and although my poor dangling boobs look more uplifted now they are in the right size bra again the wrinkles when I peek inside the cups are horrific! But hey ho, no one else knows that! (except dh but he is just happy I am happy)

Back to feet - I am now also on the look out for comfy flat/low heel leather ankle (not too short) boots in black for work and brown for casual with denims with a reasonably grippy sole for the Scottish cold/wet climate without being too chunky. And leather trainers for walking on wet days would be good too as current ones are fabric. So I'll be doing lots of boots/trainer online shopping this weekend - anywhere I have looked so far are not leather (I am prone to athletes foot in synthetic materials) or hugely expensive - any recommendations very welcome!

Zebracat · 12/09/2025 18:27

@WeAllHaveWings . Bras are another issue all together. I bought 3 hideously expensive 40 fs in April, because bra extenders were no longer enough. They are now so big I can get them on and off over my head. My old 38fs are now slightly big in the back and big in the cups, but I have no idea what size to buy and I want to wait a bit longer. But I am not comfortable. I’m looking forward to a time when my bras fit in the drawer without pressure being applied. Did you get measured?
@RobinEllacotStrike The clogs have a strap but it can be put to the front , otherwise I agree it can be a problem . I fell in love with them, but actually, material aside, they look just like dhs garden shoes😭
I love all the brown boots, but I’m waiting to see a podiatrist, God knows what he will suggest

Goingincirclesstill · 12/09/2025 18:31

Re bras... I tried working it out for myself and bought some, then found they have become loose so got measured at M&S (you seem to have to book) then bought new via Vinted for cheaper. Now gone from a tight 42dd to 36C.

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/09/2025 18:33

I feel your wrinkly boob pain @WeAllHaveWings
I went to the beach on Tuesday (back when it was still summer) and caught a look at my thighs as I went to lie down on my front. Very wrinkly & I thought my legs were doing OK. Basically the inner thigh loose skin moved to the top of my entire thigh as I got horizontal and I becamne aware of this at a very unfortunate angle.

There's no one else I can say this too - thanks you lot for the multifacted discussion.

I kind of pour my former G cup (now "who knows" cup) boobs into my bra now. Sometimes they look fab but other times all folded & very squishy.

And in yoga I wear vests and there is this moment each moring in the hot pod (which is quite dark) when I'm in a plank (stealth boast - I PLANK NOW!! omg🤣 - who am I??????) & the light catches my upper arm & I wonder who let the Shar-pei into the pod and why is it on my arm?

Ah well - I'm actually celebrating having these consequences. Its better than the alternative.

I've been rubbish on the collagen and will make more of an effort. I do have the blue Nivea cream which thankfully isn't too pongy. After buying it I remembered why I never bought Nivea products as I don't really like perfumed body products. I like perfume though. But its great body lotion. And I'm upping the flaxseed oil supplement I take too which is very mositurising.

@gimmemounjaro thanks so much for posting those boots. I'm looking for some new boots, and I was lusting after Birkie boots a few years ago but they got rejected as "too expensive". But now I have a "no cheap shoes" policy so my boot budget is open & vulnerable especially as I will shortly be making a cocktail.

I also have these for knocking about in, unbelievably comfy from the first wear. Would recommend if they are the kind of thing you’re after. And they’re on offer at the moment.

these look great too and I wear chelsea boots when I WFH as they are like slippers - sadly out of stock in my (very large) size.

I have many pairs of Wolky's after my German friend introduced me to them - they are a Dutch brand & go to at least a 43, do wide fit. But £££. Also quite quirky &/or fugly. But I am a fugly shoes fan. I can even wear a bit of a heel/lift in a Wolky.

Arglefraster · 12/09/2025 18:37

Yay to the Bigfoot chat!
I'm a 9 whilst my girls - tiny 17yr old & will be taller 11yr old are both in 4s 😆

I HATE buying shoes, I have funny over sensitive tendons on the top of my feet but I can't tell if the shoes irritate them until I've walked properly for a couple of hours. Many expensive mistakes have made me super wary (but supplied DH with plenty of walking boots 🤣). I would like to get back to properly barefoot shoes gradually as there's so much less pressure on them now

You're so close to double digits @dimples76!

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/09/2025 18:40

I only really wear bras/bra tops like this now - some from Boody other bratop from Primark. I sized out of my Sloggi Zeros but they are so comfy to wear.

I do want to start skipping and the reason I haven't started is boobs. I need a serious sports bra to be able to jump rope.

I got a rope inspired by watching totally hot men skip on Instagram - its my guilty pleasure. Since a part of getting into losing some weight this time was being inspired by Cormoran Strike, I'm fully open to being swayed into skipping by krismpowers (you're welcome)

Zebracat · 12/09/2025 18:50

I like those Boody bras. Think I’d be between a large and an extra large according to the guide. Guess it’s better to go for the large.

Zebracat · 12/09/2025 18:52

I was pleased that Corm was sorting himself out.

Yes large will do it then - you know why 😁

WeAllHaveWings · 12/09/2025 19:09

@gimmemounjaro I tried Birkenstock sand less years ago but never got in with them, but perhaps it was because my feet were too swollen and might be different now….. never tried/been sure of lace up boot style, do mid/late 50s women wear them? Like the second one more, but prefer a higher ankle

@Zebracat I measured myself using boob or bust then just ordered loads of sizes one up and down to try from bravissimo on the credit card - they got the band size spot on but I needed a cup one size up. I know balconette bras suit me best now as I don’t have much fullness on top of boob. The boob or bust site also has some info about choosing bra type/shape.

@RobinEllacotStrike oh yes, I’ve have the inner thigh and arm crepe paper look too. And also the sagging skin above knees that I notice in my leggings (only wear indoors) and sometimes in my jeans too, But as as you the alternative is much worse. Well done on the planking - I’m impressed! I have a similar shaped bra top to yours from bravissimo but with a back fastening, much more comfortable than an underwire, but still wear underwire if going out for the much needed lift and separation!

Any good @RobinEllacotStrike?

I have been meaning to contact the Hey Dude people to ask about whether there is any difference in the men’s and women’s sizing because I do like the darker brown ones which are apparently only for men! They look just the same, I imagine they’re unisex, but I just haven’t got around to checking yet..

We all have wings. Thanks I’ll try B or B. I’m mid 60s and I love lace up boots, pretty sure there’s no age limit!

gimmemounjaro · 12/09/2025 19:38

@WeAllHaveWings I don’t know if we’re meant to wear them but I am mid 50s and wear those Birks and some burgundy lace up brogue boots I bought from vinted the other day. I do love boots 🙂

There has to be a silver lining to go with all the crap of being middle aged and I figure it’s wearing whatever you like and not caring what people think 💪
(I appreciate some workplaces / circles are perhaps more prescriptive than mine tho.)

WeAllHaveWings · 12/09/2025 19:46

@gimmemounjaro you may be right, I need to expand my choices beyond 80s/90s fashion when I was last slimmer! Just don’t have a clue where to start! Will add some lace ups to my list! I did have have some lace up boots back in the day but they were stiletto heeled, they were my kinky going out boots! 🤣

NewbieMJ · 12/09/2025 21:06

@WeAllHaveWings

I recommend Tenby boots by Hotter. They are really comfy and do standard and wide fit - so easy to get on and off (side zip) and up to a size 9. They are generally around £89, but I keep an eye on sales and discount codes, so get them cheaper. They do have an all-leather one, but low stock when I searched. Here's the link:hotter.com/searchresults?keyword=tenby&page=0

For balcony bras, I'd recommend Cleo Lace Wired Balcony Bra (A-E) | B by Boutique | M&S. They come in A to E or F-H. They are super comfy with nice wide backs, but have the dreaded underwires which I long to be without....one day🙏I am buying them as I go down the sizes as they are really great value.

M&S

alltablenochairs · 12/09/2025 21:20

My 15 year old is 6'1" tall and wears a size 9 shoe. She also takes a 38 inch leg trouser which is interesting as her school are very particular about the style of trousers pupils are allowed. Ask me how I know the supposed 'long length' trousers in the stupidly overpriced school outfitters are a 32 inch leg. M and S long trousers are a 34 inch btw. She generally lives in shorts all year around and has been known to play sports in sub zero temperatures in a skort 😨😨😨

@WeAllHaveWings hope you enjoy the coat. If the furry edge in the hood annoys you like it did to me then its detachable. I got mine on a tasty discount as well because it was the last one in my size and was 'shop soiled'. Basically it was a bit dusty but a lint roller has sorted it out.

@Arglefraster I dont particularly like wearing shoes either. Just like you they annoy me. However as I also have neuropathic feet (I.e. I have no feeling in my feet) I cant often tell shoes are hurting until there's a big problem.
My recommendation would be to take the insoles out of the shoes because often they're totally OTT. You can then replace them with something thats a bit thinner/gel ones maybe.

alltablenochairs · 12/09/2025 21:27

My contribution to the underwear discussion would be that if there's an old fashioned lingerie shop near you then they're well worth paying a visit. There's one by my Mum (a 400 mile drive away) and I always go in there when I'm visiting her. Those ladies totally know their stuff.
Underwear wise I gave up wearing wired bras a few years ago. No matter what the style or fit was, even if it came from the underwear shop mentioned I can always guarantee the wires are going to bend/end up digging in.

We havent yet had mention of pants but my recommendation would be innersy pants as sold on Amazon. More to the point the high waisted ones. Not necessarily the cheapest though. However if you want something thats proper thick cotton, full coverage (and then some!), a decent waistband and none of that silly elastic thats more abrasive then its useful then these are definitely the ones for you. And not a lace bow in sight either.

OnwardsDownwards · 12/09/2025 21:45

Aha, shoes!

My mum turned up last week with a pair of purple Dr Martens that I’ve not worn since I was 18. Apart from being covered in 20(something) years of dust they appear to be in perfect shape. As I’ve hit what seems to be a midlife crisis they are my style once again 😂. I never wore them in properly though, so I’ve been working from home in them with thick socks on.

I end up buying most of my shoes from M and M direct. I assume they’re last year’s styles, usually heavily discounted. Got some great Ugg leather ankle boots from there (not the sheepskin kind), comfortable and smart enough for my casual workplace.

Also a fan of lingerie shops run by ladies who have been doing it forever and would be offended at the suggestion of a tape measure! I went a while ago, and she’s the first person to look at my shoulders and tell me I need a bra with narrow set straps. Need to go back because I’m definitely down a couple of band sizes. I buy one bra at full price there and then another one or two online cheaper.
