Mounjaro/Wegovy with >5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 10!

MooBaggage · 22/08/2025 15:21

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Kiwis and milled flaxseed are still the order of the day, along with water, posh scales, weight loss charts (thank you Infosec!), Vinted and even more water...

We're coping with the Mounjaro palavers and hoping that somehow, we will all still be able to carry on with this amazing journey which is working so well for most of us.

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

@alltablenochairs I have a silent night heated blanket, think it was about £50 from Argos and it’s great, I love it.

just bought this from Sainsburys for this year, it’s a men’s Snoodie and I bought it in a xxl which is massive on me but it comes to mid-calf and is super thick and fluffy/fleecy on the inside. It’s bloody
lovely of an evening to sit snuggled up in.

Recommendations time- help needed!

Does anyone have any suggestions about a super warm, super windproof and super delugeproof winter coat. As in Scottish west coast weather proof. IYKYK.
I've previously had a didriksons but the zip's a bit dodgy and its also 5 sizes too big now thanks to MJ. When I brought it it was probably too small for me bit it was also the biggest size they did😳
No puffa or down type jackets though- due to the way my chair's designed to fit me they end up compressing down and being pretty useless. Or shall I just take the hit and shell out for another one like what I had???

Autumn's here and quelle surprise I'm freezing again. Or more to the point freezing a bit more than usual. This is the only MJ side effect that actually bothers me grrrrrrr. Someone recommended a heated throw last year- for those who have them where did you get yours from and would you recommend it again?

In return recommendation wise for staying warm I would highly recommend my baavet duvet. Weighs a ton though and I cant change the duvet cover on my own (I do have a SK duvet though) but does the job. I would also recommend a cat or two for perfect lap-warming purposes. Just wish mine would shut up and stop making a right racket purring so I can go to sleep!

For a waterproof windproof cosy coat, I'd recommend Seasalt Janelle. I have two in different colors and they are brilliant. Padded at the bottom and cosy fleece at the top with a detachable hood. Mine kept me dry through a week of solid rain in the Lakes.

QueenOfHiraeth · 06/09/2025 08:37

@alltablenochairs I also swear by Seasalt coats. They are properly waterproof, hard-wearing and survive sea wind and horizontal rain here.
I also have a Janelle, as recommended by @neveroutofthekitchen. One thing I like which may be good for you as a wheelchair use is that the top half is lined with fleecy, furry stuff but there is a panel on each side of the zip which is lined with thinner quilted stuff so you get the warmth but don't feel too bulky. I don't know if I've described that well but, hopefully, you can see what I mean

I’ve had Seasalt winter coats the last several years. They are properly waterproof and windproof. Really warm but not bulky. Not cheap either but last well.

NotsosunnyShropshire · 06/09/2025 08:55

Just scrolled down after posting my reply and see that I’m not the only Seasalt fan here. 😁

GiveMeWordGames · 06/09/2025 09:16

I am no use on the coat recommendation @alltablenochairs but I just wanted to concur about the amazingness of wool duvets. I talked DH into one late last year and no regrets at all. It's not a baavet but a John Lewis own brand version. When we bought it I was still running menopausally hot while DH was always feeling the cold at night. Even after I started MJ and felt the cold more it worked brilliantly for both of us. I'm looking forward to getting it back out again soon now the weather's turning.

Also my Mum loves her heated throws and uses them so much since fuel costs shot up and after the winter fuel allowance was stopped last year.

MooBaggage · 06/09/2025 09:18

@alltablenochairs I have this heated throw from Lakeland https://www.lakeland.co.uk/63768/staysnug-sherpa-electric-heated-throw-grey

Have had it for about 4 years now and it's ace - I use it all the time in winter when I'm WFH and it's reduced at the moment, so if you needed an excuse to make a purchase...!😬

Sorry don't have any coat recommendations, but I'm off to investigate the ones others have suggested!

I am using my heated throw right now, seems to have been discontinued but just a cheapo one from Amazon, we all have one, would recommend

UnimaginableWindBird · 06/09/2025 10:29

I am a fellow wool duvet lover.

As far as coats go, it's probably not what you are looking for, but I go swimming year-round in a local lake, and I bought a Wild Moose changing robe in moss green. I swore I wasn't going to be a "dry robe wanker" but in bad weather, my other coats are barely used. It's warm and dry and snuggly, and it's fine to sit down in (but is quite long which might not work in a wheelchair) with zips that can be shipped from the top or bottom and with amazingly capacious pockets. There's an inner pocket big enough for a small hot water bottle, a phone pocket, and two size pockets that last Christmas I had an Aldi impulse buy and walked home with a bottle of champagne in one pocket and a bottle of single malt in its tin in the other, and I was able to zip the pockets shut.

And the price is quite reasonable, but you do run the risk of being judged for wearing it in public, and it's not exactly elegant.

NotsosunnyShropshire · 06/09/2025 10:39

I’ve had a wool duvet for about 4-5 years now. Love it. It’s a ‘winter weight’ one, but we can use it most of the year round as it self regulates. I’m always cold nd DH is always warm. Suits us both. Plus I love the extra weight of it so it drapes around your body leaving no draughty gaps.

eta: ours was from Soak and Sleep.

😂I absolutely love this. You basically made yourself a weighted jacket out of booze. Brilliant.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 06/09/2025 10:54

Good morning all.
So after what initially looked like a 2kg gain from my all inclusive holiday, in the last 3 days it has gone and my loss is 0.2kg from pre holiday which I am actually really pleased with.

I am still awaiting my replaced lost SheMed pen & not been impressed with them.
i have managed to get a new pen for £169 from Numan and registrations and delivery has been straight forward.
I have a £100 discount code off (from £269 for 10mg) for next month if anyone would like it. It is £100 off for me and you.
if I ever get my SheMed pen, I’ll be happy to have one spare to allow me to shop for best deals to allow me to stay on 10mg for the rest of the year at least.

good luck to you all!!
Let me know if anyone wants my code.

Zebracat · 06/09/2025 12:26

@Reginaphalangeeeee I would love your code. My supplier charged me £279 for 10 mg in August!
@alltablenochairs another slightly left field coat suggestion- I have a Baleno riding coat, totally waterproof with a detatchable fleece lining, beautifully made and designed to be worn sitting down. I don’t ride, bought it for dog walking. And I feel quite stylish in it. Photo isn’t of mine but you could browse the range, you often find good reductions.
I've lost 1.4 kilos this week , feeling good about that.

Arglefraster · 06/09/2025 14:08

We have had a couple of these blankets for over a year- although timing must be key as I paid about £30 for a small one & £40 for a bigger one. (& they're not orange despite the confusing illustrations 🤣). Still the gift my DH has most appreciated which really illustrates our rock & roll lifestyle....

I can't help on coats as I tend to run warm as soon as I move (freezing if still) & coats mean walking so whatever Regatta outlet has on sale does me - they are properly waterproof though.

I'm officially past the 5stone loss but feeling weirdly numb about it - BMI is still a fraction (literally) above 40 & every bloody thread I open has someone going on about how they can't believe they got themselves into such a state/so appallingly fat etc etc about their starting weight which is far far lower than my current weight 🫠
another 5 to go so we can pretend I joined the thread just now 😁

I'm struggling with clothes now too, my trousers are comedically oversized (can tuck the waistband into my bra band 😳) but I don't really feel right in smaller ones and super self conscious about my lumpy legs in smaller trousers too. Tops I'm managing better although I realised on my walk this morning that the "smaller" long sleeve round neck T-shirt I was wearing must be too big as my bra is showing 🙈

Urgh! Sorry to moan!
I'm enjoying the cooler weather (sorry sun worshipers!) & the autumn colours - I could happily walk for hours & hours when it's like this.

Must be coat buying season! I was searching for one last night too, most of my original coats are all size 26-28 - got by last year with an old size 24 I found, but need something this year. I have two arriving tomorrow at local Next store, one a Didrikson as mentioned before, the other a much cheaper Tog24 - hope one of them fits nicely and that will do for this year.

Also dug out previous years winter knitwear and I have a chunky jumper I can now pull over my thighs and knees when sitting, and an edge to edge cardi which is now long in body/arms and I can wrap around myself so I might keep them both for snuggling at home in winter.

Zebracat · 06/09/2025 15:41

@Arglefraster congratulations on your 5 stone loss. Please don’t be downhearted. You were so brave to start and you are halfway there. That is a fantastic achievement . What size do you think you are now? I think a couple of purchases now and a cull of your biggest things might help you feel how well you are doing . I apologise if anything I’ve said made you feel bad. You are awesome.

alltablenochairs · 06/09/2025 16:53

@WeAllHaveWings I'm wearing a thick chunky cardie I got from Temu at the moment. Its one of my all time faves.

As for the coats, I've shelled out a small fortune for another didriksons. Go to what you know and all of that. Heated blanket has also been purchased. Now if I could find a USB/battery powered one that would be perfect.

For the newbies on here, please dont worry about wondering if MJ will make you spend all winter freezing. Its more of a me issue than anything else. I've always, always been cold (even before MJ). Combine this with living where I do and health issues that means I cant regulate temperature very well and yeah, its all about the blankets. Lots and lots of blankets. And the cat who thinks that if she sits on my lap and starts purring and fussing me she'll get fed.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/09/2025 17:05

@alltablenochairs I have never bought Didrikson's before, good to have the recommendation this is the one I've ordered - couldn't decide between the blue or green - went for the blue but just looked at them again and thinking maybe green 🙈 so ordered it as they seem to be selling out and will return one.

alltablenochairs · 06/09/2025 17:06

@Arglefraster please dont worry about your starting weight. I for one definitely wont be judging you or making smart comments about anything. We are all on this thread for the long haul and all have various starting points (mine was with a BMI of 45 for instance). What's important for me is that this is one of the few places where actually people get it. As for the clothes, could you look at your favourite items and see if they're available in a size or two smaller? My oldest tells me that loose leg trousers are very much the in thing at the moment as well. Would a slightly looser fit pair help you at all?

I love autumn too. My youngest is fuelled by adhd so we spend a lot of time outdoors. 2 years ago we brought him an adult sized go kart so there are a lot of adventures in the local (thankfully accessible-ish) woods. Wrap up warm and off we go.

Out of the 2 I prefer the blue one but then I very much like colours like navy blue, dark purple e.t.c.

I've gone for one of their super thick mega warm ones myself. Think its the Erika but I am not 100% sure without checking my emails.

I’m sure it’s been asked to death. But I have a lot to lose and I’m not young enough that my skin will just bounce back. I’m 35. Six stone to lose. Feel I can do it with mounjaro. But will I be left with loads of loose skin? I’m literally sick and petrified thinking I’ve forever ruined my body

Here’s my take: you might have lots of loose skin. You might not. 35 is younger than a lot of us. How and where you carry your weight affects it, how and where you lose it will affect it. There are some things you can do to help - don’t try and lose it really fast, get in to strength training and stay consistent with it, take collagen. No one can give you a guarantee that you won’t get loose skin, but it’s not a certainty. Concentrate on what you can control - you can start taking steps to lose weight, for whatever reason it is that drives you.

Slowrunning · 06/09/2025 17:24

Weigh day today and after no movement last week I’ve lost 4 pounds this week. That puts me at a whopping 6 stone down since the start of the year. 😳

I have also bought a new coat, though I am very much a Vinted girl now so mine was only £5 but it’s a lovely dark green yumi one that is formal enough for me to wear to a funeral next week. And….. it’s a size 10 and fits me beautifully 😊

@Arglefraster I have become a Vinted fiend as I have gone down in sizes. I have bought several weird fish dresses that I like in multiple sizes because they are so cheap on Vinted and so just re-list the larger size once I am in the smaller.

Someone on this thread said recently that life is too short to wear ill-fitting clothes. I can’t remember who said it but I really took it to heart so thank you.

Slowrunning · 06/09/2025 17:33

@CareerChange24 I am 6 stone down and yes I have loose skin. On the tops of my arms, my thighs, my stomach and my bum.
Do I care - not a jot!

The way I look at it is that the extra weight I was carrying put me at massive risk of heart attack and stroke and increased my risk of several cancers. Any of those would wreck my body much more that a bit of loose skin.

I am 50 though and have already gained and lost several times so there is no elasticity left in my skin. Everyone is different and as @OnwardsDownwards says, you won’t know until you do it.
