Welcome to thread lucky number 13!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we list old clothes on vinted, give thanks for MJ as we have had the BEST Summer in years as we are all significantly lighter.

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones, maintenance and our lowest stone brackets!

I’m on W42 D1 and on w2 of my first titrating down pen of 5.0mg

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 9st 6.0lbs
GW 9st 0lb
Total loss so far 61.0 lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Is anyone else getting a dry mouth and ulcers? I've been suffering for the last month and it does seem to be linked to mj. Wondering if reducing the dose will help

Not ulcers but I am having real issues with dry mouth at the moment - it's actually waking me up sometimes. I've been very fixated on whether it was connected with HRT but didn't think to check if MJ was the culprit!

DarkForces · 07/09/2025 12:35

@MsRumpole I've been having a similar internal debate. I'm mid 40s so wondering if it's menopause, mj or something else. I'm not on hrt (yet 😂)

MagnoliaTreePetals · 07/09/2025 12:43

Yes @DarkForces , a very dry mouth a lot of the time. Often wake up at night feeling parched. I drink soooooo much water, and just keep drinking!

MagnoliaTreePetals · 07/09/2025 12:45

I am very happily settled on HRT, so it is definitely not the menopause for me.
Now that I am spreading the doses out to every 9 days, I do notice it much less 7-9 days after injecting; but then after I dose up again the dry mouth comes right back.

DarkForces · 07/09/2025 12:57

I think I need to start stretching or reducing the dose. Hopefully that'll sort it. Thanks lovely Novemberers

evilharpy · 07/09/2025 13:00

I have a very dry mouth at night these days and wake up feeling like I've been chewing on carpet. I assumed it was peri, never even considered MJ!

Goldleafcat · 07/09/2025 13:25

Thanks all. Little man is doing a lot better which is fab, but I have it now. We’ve got boiler related issues and no hot water until it gets fixed at some point this week (£££ sadly). And weirdly, no water upstairs (some plumbing anomaly). Just went upstairs for a lie down and suddenly felt something weird on my leg. Pulled my jeans leg up, horrid sudden pain, and it was a bastarding wasp! Little shit is in the window of my office. His days are numbered. Not been stung in something like 30 years?!

Wondering if I’ve inadvertently broken a mirror / upset a gypsy 🤦‍♀️

Yes! Awful dry mouth this week that I thought was just because I'd been rubbish at drinking my water tbh

MagnoliaTreePetals · 07/09/2025 14:43

Oh goodness me @Goldleafcat Life does seem to throw things at us in multiples. I got stung by a wasp earlier this year and I totally agree, they are extremely painful little buggers.
Glad that your son is on the mend, but rotten for you that you now have it.
We had to use the immersion heater for 3 weeks last month. Bloody expensive!
Deepest sympathy!!!

MontyJinks · 07/09/2025 19:03

I've suffered with a dry from mouth the start, particularly at night, despite drinking plenty. It is 100% a side effect of MJ for me personally. Each week without fail my mouth gets really really dry about half an hour after jabbing 🙄 I've sort of gotten used to it, but am hoping that things revert to normal when I do come off the meds. I'm at goal and am titrating down from 7.5mg to 5mg. Been on 5mg for a month but haven't noticed any discernible difference as yet.

I'm not moaning (honestly), for me it's a small price to pay, but just a bit annoying at night 😂

lovealongbath · 07/09/2025 19:22

I just have a foul taste in my mouth and am conscious that my dogs breath is fresher than mine!

DarkForces · 07/09/2025 19:37

Thanks again for sharing your experiences with dry mouths. Makes me feel less crazy x

Welcome!

I think some people struggle to physically eat when either starting or going up a dose. I haven’t forced myself to eat but I do exercise 5 days a week so I think my calorie intake is in line with that. You need to focus on nutrition- so getting at least 1g of good protein per kg of body weight rather than hitting a blanket calorie intake. Your body will tell you what it needs - and what it doesn’t want you to eat..

MJ isn’t a magic bullet but an aide. I haven’t felt like it is a slog, but I have worked hard at getting 62lbs off. You’ll need to create a 3500 calories deficit over a week to lose a lb so check what your BMR actually is before adding in exercise calories. Mine is 1340 so at 1200 calories and no exercise or movement of any description I’d create a deficit of 980 (so 0.28 of a lb) over a week before exercise calories. So I definitely wouldn’t encourage disordered eating but understand your own metabolism and then go from there..Everyone is different in what they need. Good luck!

@Mounjaropen I looked again at my BMR and the different activity multipliers again this weekend after your helpful advice to a newbie MJ user who has looked in on the thread.

As a short 62 yo, it’s both amazing and VERY scary just how little fuel I actually need to keep a pulse!! BMR is 1263 so with light exercise, minus 3500 across a week for about 1lb loss, daily calories are just over 1200. The basic maths show just how easy it was to be 6 stone overweight..and much booze related either directly or indirectly with a cheeky 10pm cheese and biscuits mountain. Now shifted 5 stone 9 from summer 2022 and 4 stone 5 since MJ last November. Still hoping for my delayed Oushk delivery on Friday 🙏🙏🙏

Have a good week everyone 😊

IKR? BMR was an Absolute eye opener for me too! As I’ve said previously, blanket guidelines from organisations such as the NHS ‘the average woman needs 2,000 calories per day’ definitely meant I’d overestimated what I needed on a sedentary day in past years… plus the obvious culprits of adding wine and treats into the mix….

you’ve done amazingly well so far though! Keep going/maintaining 🙌🙌🙌

@Goldleafcat hope you’re feeling better today and you get your heating sorted

@MagnoliaTreePetals so useful to hear how you’re spacing out the jabs. I’m planning to follow suit from the end of September but I’m worried I’ll forget what day I’m supposed to be jabbing! If I wake up and no one’s in the bed, it’s either Monday, Tuesday….through to Friday. If someone is there, it’s likely to be the weekend! The joy of retirement when DH is still at the grindstone 😂

My friend drove herself mad during the menopause with constant painful ulcers and a burning tongue which are a little -known symptoms for some women, it might be an unfortunate combo of both? Hope you get some relief soon. 💐

I’ve actually found I now sleep with a closed mouth naturally as opposed to being an open mouthed champion snorer when I was fat. Would mouth tape make a difference do you think?

Does anyone else really struggle with the response that any thread about obesity or WLIs gets elsewhere on this site?

Woman who explains that her obesity was triggered by by the death of her child being told that it was because she ate too much. Belated follow up response afterwards "I'm so sorry for the death of your child"

I think some small minded people can't get past their idea that anyone obese is just a big fat lazy fattie who spends their day lying on the sofa eating pizza and cake, saying they don't understand why they're overweight and demanding jabs from the NHS. They've already decided who we are and despite joining a debate, don't actually want to hear anything different.
It makes them so deaf to anyone's explanations about how it's often not that simple, that they don't even hear something as heartbreaking as the loss of a child because they're in a fingers in ears singing la la la state

Was that the strange threat about how people have got to 100 kg?Tbh, I tend to stay off most of the threads unless it’s someone who needs some encouragement or has fears about starting WLI. Even style and beauty has turned into some alternative am I being unreasonable universe… I recall one thread where the poster was really excited to be splurging on a dress which she loved but had no real need for and the comments were brutal and frankly unnecessary… 15 years ago you could ask a question about almost anything and get a fatty supportive response but nowadays… Not so much. I wonder if it’s because some of the posters probably need to be on WLI to improve their mood (and maybe the manners) 😉 but yes, a traumatic event such as that would most definitely affect pretty much every human being… I think I hit a perfect storm of menopause, insulin resistance and the burden of caring for elderly parents who wouldn’t help themselves… Throw into the mixthe toxicity of an unhinged sibling and it’s no wonder I drank my own body weight in wine most evening. I think the most surprising effect of MJ so far has been the ability to create the mental headspace to not overthink things and sweat the small stuff. Obviously, wine was playing a major part in that too.

I agree with this also. But throw into the mix that there is at least one generation brought up on junk food and no one cooking at home, (or being able to cook) and I think there is a basic lack of nutrition understanding in a large part of the population - such as the fact that Not all calories are equal. Or that is not normal to have Cadbury every day… plus a bag of crisps plus a fizzy drink. Supermarket meal deals have a lot to answer for!

MsRumpole · 08/09/2025 10:07

That's the one @Mounjaropen . It just seems to be this constant thing of people with obesity really trying to explain how they got to where they are in a very thoughtful and transparent way only to be told that they're wrong, it's calories in calories out. It's like saying that a self-harmer hurt themselves because they applied a blade to their skin.

MsRumpole · 08/09/2025 10:12

I am fairly sure I have ADHD; I had very overweight parents from a family of very overweight people on both sides; I had various ACEs; I have never had a break from feeling emotionally hungry, if you like, as an adult apart from taking Mounjaro and I actually still find it quite hard not to at least start eating crap, although MJ shuts that down very quickly, because the reasons I eat are not about physical hunger. I have always used food very much the way alcoholics use booze. But I suppose alcoholics are often told that they just need to stop drinking by people who have absolutely no idea why they do it.

It's the lack of understanding that they don't understand that gets me, I think. Alcohol leaves me fairly cold but I am able to extrapolate from the feelings I experience in close proximity to a packet of Jaffa Cakes 😆
