Big price increases?

CoverMeInMarmalade · 14/08/2025 11:45

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

You can only get 2.5 as a newbie

Yes you need to do the first month on 2.5 but when I first ordered with Zava there was an option to order the next doses up as well for a discount.

I think that’s what my post implied; I’ve not lied at any point. I was able to put my bank details in, but I didn’t, therefore went no further.

I’ve clearly answered your question. I’ve apologised for my ignorance on Mounjaro and diabetes availability.

Bore off now, it’s no wonder you’re getting grief off other people, get off your high horse.

Well, yes.

because it’s then reviewed by an actual human.

EVERYBODY CHILL!!

I know Wegovy isn't supposed to be as good, but it's not too far of, from what I understand. Personally I'll just swap over if it gets too expensive 🤷 The company is Danish, so much more reliable than anything coming from the states these days. We'll all be okay 💪

Try The Times which confirms the price of most doses will double. You can thank Trump.

Do people really think Trump has been unreasonable here? I mean, do people really think the president of the US ahould prioritise low WLI prices in the UK over reasonable WLI prices in the US?

(and before anyone asks, yes I’m on WLI and am worried about the price rises. I just don’t think Trump has done anything wrong here)

Off the top of my head I cannot recall for all/lower doses. But I am on 15mg and that was £189 before the increase. Expected to be £320 after it. So about a 70% increase.

That is horrendous!

Not everyone will be able to do that because many of us will have a BMI that’s too low for starting out on a new medication.

Yes because the hasn’t actually lowered the price for anyone, has he? They’ve just hiked their prices here.

I think he should have enforced it by forcing the billionaires in charge of the drug companies and the insurance companies to work together to make medical care actually affordable in the USA.

Oh for the love of God. No. It. Isn't.

<puts head in hands>

Having a significantly lower price in the UK than European countries encourages other entities to export UK supply to those countries to profit from the price differential. Although this practice is banned to protect supply for UK patients, Lilly are aware of attempts to circumvent the export ban. Illegal exports could jeopardise patient safety by compromising the supply chain and Lilly are taking all means possible to protect UK supply for UK patients.

I’m sure all can do without this hike!

That was the choice of the pharmaceutical companies. Why is it reasonable for people in the US to pay such higher prices?

I did think of that. Thankfully my OH is still chunky enough to be able to get it prescribed, and has no interest in taking the stuff himself. Not ideal to lie about prescriptions, but much better than the alternative!

Have you googled yet? - Ah I forgot, you haven't worked out how to do so yet.

Lilly stopped UK pharmacies exporting stock overseas months ago.

Booboobagins · 14/08/2025 22:24

I think what its saying is, if you want to use this product and medically you dont need it, then you're going to need to pay.

There are alternatives for those of us who want to shift a few pounds, but anyone who is obese may be able to get a prescription soon if they cant already 🙏 i say that cos my friends GP wouldnt prescribe it for her even though she was a size 24+. She paid for it herself and is now a size 14, with excess skin removed she'll be a 12. I'm proud of her - she put on weight over a very short period due to cancer treatment - it's cost her quite a lot over 12months to shed it but good she did it in 2025 cos lord kniws how much utd cos in 2026...

It’s not, but Trump hasn’t exactly solved the problem has he? He’s made it worse for everyone.

That’s what he was aiming to do (in a small way). It’s the pharmaceutical companies who have chosen to respond by raising UK prices.

Perhaps in the longer term this will bring down the price of medicines in the US.

What “problem of supply”?

But it won’t. He should focus on his own country instead of screwing thingd for the rest of us.

He is focusing on his own country (in this instance, obvs not others) so that’s a strange criticism to make!

Perfectly happy to get grief from pointing out the staggeringly pointless, and potentially harmful, posts by some posters.

In other news, I've just had a glance at the C.I.A website so I think I'm probably in with a shout at becoming the next Director of Homeland Security.

Which is nice.

NigelPonsonbySmallpiece · 14/08/2025 22:31

I haven’t had an email from medexpress saying anything. Just ordered a 10mg pen as was tapering down as it’s stopped working for me anyway. I definitely won’t be continuing with the new prices of this is true. I’d hoped to maybe stay on 5mg but not even sure about that now.
