Nothing, but tbf there is nothing stopping anyone from selling on any prescription only medication. Or selling on one pen at a time.

It’s illegal, so there’s a chance you’d be caught and possibly prosecuted I suppose.

Autumnflowers2 · 14/08/2025 15:04

Getting of the topic there
I'm praying it doesn't go up come September
I want another 5 stone off , before I come off it
Plus I've realised I've not lost any weight in August
Nothing,not an ounce
Goodness knows how I've done that ,I put 2 pounds on ,on my holiday and I've lost that 2 pounds ,but that still leaves me at the end of July weight .
Frustrating

SilenceInside · 14/08/2025 15:09

Now I’m worrying that if I don’t order soon, as in today, that stocks will be wiped out as everyone panic buys! This is all stress I really don’t need.

MontysMissus · 14/08/2025 15:12

It's a gamble, but I'm refusing to panic over this yet. I'm certainly not panic buying.
The article is about how suppliers are being potentially impacted, not the consumers. Negotiations are still ongoing as to how this will reflect in market price.
As some have said, particularly those who appear to have some business/economics understanding on the other thread, hiking up the prices would massively result in a great number of consumers no longer buying the product, or changing to another one, which would complete negate the profit margin that may need to be addressed. Pharmacies would surely be shooting themselves in the foot and losing customers hand over fist. The market is already incredibly competitive, with so many suppliers offering discounts. To withdraw all that makes no business sense. You raise your prices and you lose customers. You maintain or lower your prices and more customers come to you, increasing the demand and therefore the profit. Smaller pharmacies may not be able to compete but the big ones will prosper. It's the same as the fact that you can get the same items cheaper in the huge supermarkets than in your locally run store.
Media outlets are sensationalising this news, without a full understanding of the implications.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 14/08/2025 15:37

I’ve only just seen this latest announcement, it made me go cold… I don’t know whether I want to cry, laugh hysterically, or keep calm and hope that an agreement of some sort is made where we don’t see a huge increase.
This has been life changing for us, to think that Trump and his fucking ego can come and snatch it away makes me so angry, I just don’t know what to say.

I want to send a collective hug to each and every one of you on here 🫂

I'm definitely going to look into Wegovy between now and September to see what the options are… ‘prepare for the worst, hope for the best’

Autumnflowers2 · 14/08/2025 15:39

I'm not panic buying either
,if my company put the price up ,I will move to a cheaper company.
But I'm not paying any more than I already am .
I might move to wavyego if that's cheaper
If that's the end of my journey,so be it .
I have calorie counted on an app every day I've been on this medication, stopping at 1200 calories a day , sometimes doing OMAD ,or sometimes having soup or salad for lunch ..so I know what to do to keep loosing weight ,I know what works for me

SilenceInside · 14/08/2025 15:42

Does anyone know if it’s possible to move to Wegovy if your BMI is now not obese, under 27? I have a weight related health condition so would qualify for Mounjaro and Wegovy if my BMI was 27 or higher. But in the next couple of months my BMI will go below 27 and then I don’t know what the options are for switching to Wegovy. And would you have to start on the lowest dose?

Doggymummar · 14/08/2025 16:16

Thank God for klarna. They approved me the money to order three 15mg pens. I've never counted clicks, but how many for 10mg?

OP posts:
Iwouldratherbesinging · 14/08/2025 16:17

From what I’ve read recently, to switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy you must have a break from Mounjaro for five weeks, your bmi must be 30+ or 27+ with a related health condition and you start at the lowest dose.

Im in a conundrum now as well, my bmi is currently 30.9, so come September I’m not going to qualify. I’m not going to consider gaining weight so I do qualify, so I may have to think about tritrating down, I have 1.5 pens and will order another next week, so that’s 2.5 pens to ‘play’ with, I’ll have to ignore the 30 day rule slightly if I titrate down though but I definitely don’t want to just stop dead when on 15mg

Autumnflowers2 · 14/08/2025 16:19

I wonder how much cheaper wegvog is

SilenceInside · 14/08/2025 16:19

@Doggymummar a full dose is 60 clicks, so from a 15mg pen you want 2/3rds of a normal dose to get 10mg, so you’d want 40 clicks. But please check my reasoning and maths!

I switched from Ryselbus to mounjaro last year and this was the criteria at that time too

low doses are roughy £99 rising to £199 for the highest dose with swift doctor

Doggymummar · 14/08/2025 16:24

Mj was cheaper than Ry last year. Oushk was suggesting Saxenda as a cheaper alternative

Autumnflowers2 · 14/08/2025 16:27

Why do you have to have a 5 week break to swap

Doggymummar · 14/08/2025 16:29

That's how long it takes to leave your system

OP posts:
Autumnflowers2 · 14/08/2025 16:34

But they are similar drugs ,are they not ?
So swapping to ozempic would mean a 5 week break and starting on the lowest dose again ...that's not good

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/08/2025 16:34

My provider said they are just as surprised as us...

I wonder if the headlines if crazy amounts will then drop to a medium amount so we feel relatively relieved but it's still a huge hike?

It looks like the numbers released are cost price so they could charge us more OR there are deals pharmacies make for a discount.

I don't think we will know. I'm starting 10mg tomorrow and have 6 stone left. This all seems so unfair. They said they won't increase cost to NHS... But so few get it on the NHS. It isn't like it's vanity for us.

Ketra · 14/08/2025 16:38

I know some people are only posting here rather than reading the other threads, so in case you haven't seen it, Hira from Oushk did a live about 30 mins ago and suggested costs to patients will be looking like:

2.5 -150
5 -170
7.5 - 200
10 - 220
12.5/15 -300

She did caveat that they are still working through the news and it would depend on what commercial agreements and discounts would be bought in.

I had planned my weight loss to be a 2 year journey and am not even 2 months in, so will be keeping an eye on discussions as may also end up switching to wegovy with some of you!

I'm on the other thread
But I don't understand how people are having 2 or three pens in the fridge at one time .
My supplier will tell me when I need to order a pen and it's usually when I have two weeks left ,then it arrives and I usually have one dose left of the old pen and the new pen in the fridge
Yet I'm reading about people just ordering an extra pen
I thought this was a regulated medicine,..are the companies just letting people order willy nilly

I have 3 unopened in the fridge. I use the 5th dose every time but still order monthly and ordered an extra from another supplier as a one off when they had a £40 discount for Blue Light cards. I've just panicked ordered another. That will see me to the new year. I can't afford the big increases that are potentially coming. I'd have ordered two but my supplier only appeared to allow one, whereas you can normally order two at a time.

£220 then a jump to £300 seems crazy. If that's the case I'll most likely drop down to 10mg or even 7.5mg and see how I go. There isn't really much choice I guess. I currently pay £150/160 per pen. There is no way with 3 under 10yrs that I can justify spending an extra £150 a month to lose weight. I'm not happy where I am but if I got pancreatitis tomorrow and had to stop I would still be super proud of where I've got too. As far as I can see on a quick look that's not too far off Wegovy and having to stop and restart would be more disruptive in my opinion that just dropping back down.

TragicMuse · 14/08/2025 18:03

I’m going to have to wait till it’s confirmed before I decide what to do. I suppose I could just about afford some increase but not another 100 ish. That’s extreme.

Billybingbong · 14/08/2025 18:04

This all just seems so unfair and short sighted. Once we are all priced out of buying MJ, our chances of developing obesity related illnesses will increase, not to mention the hit on our mental health. All this will end up costing the NHS dearly.

Medicine Marketplace are doing a live Tik Tok at 8pm to explain the changes if anyone is interested. They have said their prices will increase by up to 50%
