I’m also in a plateau - I’m lucky in that my BMI is 24.4 and I’m pretty much at goal weight, though “goal weight” is just a number in my head, so that really doesn’t count for much does it?
For those of you that are struggling to motivate yourself to exercise, please please do try it - it will help you to strengthen those muscles, and you may well start losing inches and dropping dress sizes. I do actually enjoy exercise now (didn’t always!) and I’ve tried to list the tips and tricks that have gotten me to a good place with it.
Just walk! If you hate getting hot and sweaty or feel self conscious, wrap up, go out and get some fresh air. Walking is a brilliant form of exercise in itself.
Create a streak, if data motivates you (it doesn’t me) use your smart watch/ phone to log and analyse your exercise or calories burned/ intensity etc. This works brilliantly for my husband. I bought a park run wrist band and log my very slow runs on strava. I’m working towards the 50 runs park run T shirt.
I always remind myself that I never regret an exercise session, I often regret missing one, but never actually completing something.
Work out what time of day suits you best to exercise. I do loads better getting up and out in the morning. By 7pm I’m in a slump and can’t be bothered.
Buy some nice new exercise clothes and trainers. This works really well for me! I get a lot from Vinted or sainsbury’s or Matalan.
Exercise with a friend. I find I don’t want to let friends down whereas I can quite easily let myself down and not go. Rope in anyone who is positive, not a moaner! And create a routine you can both commit to.
Notice that your mental health will improve after exercise. You will get those endorphins boosted.
Enjoy a really nice hot soak in the bath after exercise 😊 feel virtuous, tell everyone! Post on social media.
Join a gym, I love the classes (I don’t have to think about what I’m doing, just follow the instructions) and the community. Nothing like killing yourself off with a lot of other post menopausal ladies! Or exercise alone, in secret if that’s more your thing.
Blame your amazing weight loss on your new exercise routine! 😜 “Oh I’ve started running again” is my new go to reason!
If you work with what motivates you it really helps. Start small. I have found as I’ve lost the weight it really is SOOOOO much easier to exercise and it’s a great motivator to keep the weight off.
Hope this helps 😊
