Hope I’ve done this right, I’ve never started a thread before.

@qs90 hope you don’t mind me starting a new one for us but thread 4 was full and I don’t want to lose my crew!

Can someone jog my memory on bonus dose - iirc 0.8ml is the full dose so for 7.5mg from a 7.5mg pen I would need the full 0.8ml?

I understood each dose is 0.6ml

ClimbingKilimounjaro · 03/09/2025 09:24

Ah there we go! Thank you! I guess I can just extract everything left in the pen for the ‘bonus’ 5th dose?

Can you remind me what is recommended for constipation please. Dulcoease aren’t doing much and I seem to remember there are some things to avoid so your bowels don’t become to used to them. Thanks

Peppermint tea and dried apricots.

This was recommended to me by a surgeon after GA - did the trick. Also felt quite quaint and elegant given the situation.

Lots and lots and lots of water. If you have a lot of fibre and not enough water, you can make the issue worse! Better still, warm liquid like herbal tea, because it's also a vasodilator.

knackredd · 03/09/2025 23:47

NSV - squeezed into some size 8 jeans in M&S today - far too tight - nearly caused a hip fracture and the fugly muffin-top was a sight to behold. Not sure what to do with all the excess skin……but bought some shapewear pants which were a job to get on and off.

Prunes work like a dream for me!

Mumof2studentnurse · 04/09/2025 08:16

I really do @Pepperwaggytail The only photo I have of myself from the past few years is the one that I sent to Medexpress to get started on Mounjaro. I dont even have photos of myself with my kids because i was too ashamed of the way i looked. I didn't realise just how unwell I was, not just physically, but mentally. I didnt even have a full- length mirror in my house. I still have a long way to go but im so grateful to Mounjaro because I feel like I might be able to get some sort of life back for myself. Sorry - that's all a bit much for a Thursday morning haha.

Wishing you well x

QS90 · 04/09/2025 09:06

Are you going to start having photos @Mumof2studentnurse ? Really glad it's working for you, your losses so far are incredible x

Mumof2studentnurse · 04/09/2025 09:15

To be completely honest @QS90 - not just now. I know i've lost a lot but i still feel really overweight. I would like to lose a few more stone. Some of it is probably to do with some of the things going on in my life (My husband leaving me for another woman in April) So im not really sure I will ever want to look back and remember much about myself during this time.

I know that losing weight wont make me feel whole, or complete, but i do know that it is improving my confidence, its giving me more energy, I feel like a better mum, im making better food choices and thats something that i need to make sure my kids learn so they don't follow in my footsteps.

Maybe in a couple of stone i will feel different and want to take some photos - but right now - im not ready x

Musermum · 04/09/2025 09:27

@Mumof2studentnurse You are inspiring me to keep going despite prices hikes (and well done on the losses). You've done brilliantly. As a high starter (18st 6) too I only allowed my face to be photographed... Hid behind people etc. Your goals are similar to mine ... I bought a size 18 pair of jeans off Vinted last month (with no stretch in them) and I can now get them on. I'm thinking of moving up to 10 despite the hike as I've been on 7.5 for a while now and am starting to snack too much. With 3st lost I'm not going back!!

SquishyGloopyBum · 04/09/2025 10:47

Wow @Mumof2studentnurseyou have done amazing. Be proud of yourself. I love that you have a monthly goal too. Just think where you will be come next April and a year on the injections. Hopefully smiling in photographs with your children!

Mumof2studentnurse · 04/09/2025 12:47

@Musermum That must feel amazing to be able to get those jeans on! I'm really happy for you. I am on 12.5mg. I didnt realise that I could stay on the lower doses if they were working, so every 4 weeks I was moving up. But I stopped moving up when i got to 12.5mg. I'd never had any side effects but 12.5mg makes me physically sick for the first 2 days along with headaches. Any remotely unpleasant smell will cause me to be physically sick - but then it wears off. I think i will likely move back down to 10mg in the near future because i've been on 12.5mg for a little while now, and every week, its the same side effects.

I always injected into my stomach and then i moved to the thighs when i started 12.5mg - im not sure why i moved, i just wanted to try a different injection site, but I wasnt sure if it was the 12.5mg or the injection site that was causing the side effects, so yesterday i injected in my stomach like i used to, and i can confirm...its the 12.5mg thats causing the issues.

Well done for your 3 stone loss - thats brilliant x

Mumof2studentnurse · 04/09/2025 12:50

@SquishyGloopyBum I've been thinking about this so much. Maybe I will be able to take a photo around Christmas time with my kids this year, and then maybe be able to take photos with them on their birthdays early next year. My only regret is that i didnt look into this and start this medication a long time ago...but i think of that old saying about how the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, but the 2nd best time is today. x

That sounds wonderful. And you are totally right about the tree analogy.

Do you think you could take a photo now? Like you did for the pharmacy. Only for you. It will mark the journey and how far you have come.

Mumof2studentnurse · 04/09/2025 13:35

So, I did take one @SquishyGloopyBum but it was because I got caught up in Aug madness when I was trying to get mounjaro from other suppliers, I did look at it and I did compare it to the original photo I had - but then i deleted it. I maybe shouldnt have done that because I was able to see a big difference - I just dont feel the way I want to feel. But you are probably right. Maybe It would be nice to have a start, mid way and end point :) x

SunnySpellsAhead · 04/09/2025 14:05

Just catching up again, everyone is doing so well. Congratulations to those hitting goals (size 8 jeans! Pfffftt 😃). Glad there are still some of us with lots more to go, congrats to us too - what a journey we're all on.

I flipping well hate jeans. 5'2" with the thickest thighs you can imagine, have never been able to find a style that flatters. Went shopping yesterday and ended up buying a pair of size 14 (still in shock), a 16 and an 18. All over the place and not happy with any of them really. Need more flab to come of the arse and belly, doubt the thighs will ever disappear. And yet! Catching site of myself in shop mirrors I'm flabbergasted at how almost 'normal' I look now (in a dress!). Looking forward to the next few stone coming off and making a difference, and praying the kitchen roll effect is real.

I'm also losing hair at an alarming rate now, even though I've had steady losses always under 2lb a week. It's definitely not just an autumn shedding. Some say it's the medication rather than the weight loss itself? Tried Nature Spell rosemary oil overnight but used far too much and still a greaseball now. Will try adding a few drops to shampoo. Smells gorgeous but toxic to cats apparently.

@Mumof2studentnurse I've stuck some hideous photos in my locked folder with the intention that I might be able to bear looking at them one day. I get where you're coming from but think it will be cathartic to look back and see how strong you were and what you were able to achieve during such a bad time. Well done 💐

Mumof2studentnurse · 04/09/2025 14:08

Whats the 'kitchen roll effect' @SunnySpellsAhead? This sounds interesting :)

Definitely take one. Keep it in a locked photo away - your future self will probably thank you!!

SunnySpellsAhead · 04/09/2025 15:02

@Mumof2studentnurse Like a full paper towel roll our bodies won't show much weight loss physically at first, but as time goes on and we get smaller, as the roll does, it becomes more obvious more quickly - looking forward to the day!

Lols, I drink quite a bit of peppermint tea, also prunes but not apricots, I’ll have to give those a go.

Thanks, feel like I drink loads of water, currently having a pint now, maybe I need even more.

I think we all catch ourself in the mirror and don’t quite believe the weight loss is real. I did it today in the gym. I still hate that full feeling (feel fat!)

I tried the rosemary oil yesterday, left it on for an hour and did a little bit of a scalp massage, then washed it out (smells amazing and today my hair is very shiny!) and …. honestly when I combed my hair this morning hardly anything came out in the comb! I’ve been using a very expensive shampoo for months and not had that effect. It’s early days but if it stops hair fallout over night I’m impressed!

If you can bear to take a selfie in the mirror, I really advise it (mine are in a hidden folder on my phone!) and take measurements you won’t regret it. Honestly it’s a useful record on your down days. I keep meaning to use that 360 app (Me three sixty)as well, but not got round to it yet.
