Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

daisydreamies · 27/06/2025 14:17

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

Also an amazing source of 🥑 bre and good fats

Yes - nuts good source of fat and fibre. Not a good protein source.

I've woken up super hungry this morning, probably because I didn't eat much for dinner last night, but I'm ok with that - I figured a bit of hunger is ok when I'm due a meal, it's the hunger between meals that needs to be suppressed, and it is. I'm finding I'm eating around 12-1300 calories a day (which is a massive deficit for me due to my weight) but I'm feeling good on it and would struggle to eat more without resorting to empty calories. I just weighed myself and I've lost 3kg in 3 days - that's ok for the first week as it will be mostly water but I'll have to watch carefully how it goes after that as I don't want to lose it too fast.

I also woke up very hungry. I think that’s a good thing. Eat breakfast with protein. It’s only hunger when it’s not meal time that’s an issue.

Better than nothing though

Better than nothing though

For muscle protein synthesis you need a meal of circa 30g of protein. Smaller amounts are less likely to help rebuild muscle. Hard to know if the few grams of protein in a handful of nuts is better than nothing but it’s not clear it will have the desired effect.

Ultimately there will be some muscle loss as fat is lost but the aim is to keep it to a minimum, ideally under 10%.

Gingercar · 15/07/2025 13:42

A few grams of protein in a handful of nuts is obviously better than nothing. If you count calories they’re quite high, but I’m not counting, just trying to eat good healthy foods.

Im veggie, I add seeds to lots of things. I have Greek yogurt (full fat) with strawberries, blueberries, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and sunflower seeds every morning. I adore it, I’m eight weeks in and I still look forward to it every day. At lunch I have seeds and pine nuts in a salad, with feta, halloumi or mozzarella. If it’s cold I have homemade veg soups - again with added seeds and feta. I literally poop granola! Then my evening meal varies a bit.

So far so good for me - 23 lbs down in 8 weeks, and managing to eat well.

AbitSceptical · 15/07/2025 13:49

Week 2 finished and I've lost a total of 2.3kg. Perfect - I don't want to go too fast.

3rd jab this evening.

I've also started doing Couch to 5K. When I get back from holiday I'll be looking at introducing some weights - I already do pilates.

My main anxiety at the moment is getting the second pen before the holiday (ordered), storing it safely in the little cool box I've bought, using my prescription to get it through security and keeping it safe (cool) when I'm away. Plans all in place but I'm still nervous.

Feeling slightly disheartened. It’s weigh in day tomorrow at the end of week 2 and had a sneaky weigh today. I’ve lost just under 1lb which compared to my 7lb loss last week feels like not much progress. I know slow and steady is better but I was secretly hoping it would be a bit more. I’ve eaten even more carefully this week than my first week too.

I used to think that (small amounts of or better than nothing) but I saw this. He may be wrong though. But since then I have tried to have 25g protein per meal. Nuts and seeds are amazing for the gut microbiome though.

Why?? 8lbs in two weeks is a good loss! Your expectations are a bit too high if you’re unhappy with that. Some people take a month to lose that! It’s quite normal to lose a lot in the first couple of weeks, it’s mostly water being lost. It’s quite likely that it will slow down now. You may even have plateauing where you don’t lose anything for a week or two. This really isn’t the miracle drug that it’s portrayed to be on social media. But it will help you make steady progress…. You just have to hold your nerve and keep going.

Id lost exactly the same amount as you in the first fortnight too. Then it slowed down to an average of -2lbs a week after that. But I’m still going and am now 23 lbs down at the end of my 8th week- so well on my way, and very happy.

Come on - give yourself a pat on the back!

Hmm. He’s just one person on Insta…. I’m not sure I’m convinced. I’ve not seen that said elsewhere. The nutritionalist on my NHS pre diabetic course says small amounts spread out throughout the day is better. I think if you’re getting a decent amount of protein and doing muscle building exercises you should be fine. But that’s just my opinion.

Yes one person - but he’s a specialist in this area that I follow. I think only risk is that the muscle growth / retention from any resistance exercise done will be lower than it otherwise would be, rather than anything more severe.

Gingercar · 15/07/2025 15:34

He pops up on my Insta too sometimes. I think he’s a bit of a sensationalist. I take it with a pinch of salt. And it certainly doesn’t scare me off a handful of nuts or seeds. You’ve got to find a balance in this journey. I think it’s better spread out throughout the day to keep energy levels and cravings more stable. But you do what’s best for you.🙂

You are so right. I think it’s just the difference in the first week to second week but I always knew the first week would be higher with the water weight.
I think part of it is that I worry it will stop working after the good start which I know is ridiculous 😅
well done on your brilliant loss! That really is great!

Hello, may I join?

I took my first dose of Mounjaro this afternoon, really hoping that it can help me. I’ve got a few family members who have had great results with it, enough to sway my indecisiveness!

My initial plan for week 1 is just to increase my water intake and see how things go. I have PCOS and have previously dropped weight following a Keto plan, but I really struggle with sugar cravings and also the mindset of a little blip ruining a whole day, so I may as well stuff my face and start again tomorrow.

I’m hoping that I can start to reduce my carb intake as time goes on and maintain it, but just feeling more control over my habits is all I want right now.

You sound exactly the same as me!
I’ve been on Mounjaro almost two weeks now and my sugar cravings have pretty much disappeared. Honestly it’s a revelation!!!! I keep thinking to myself : this must be how normal people live 😂

Hey all
ive restarted today after some time off due to finances :)
hope its ok to join

Averagely · 15/07/2025 17:03

I’m on w2d4 and my suppression is definitely less this week. Hoping it improves next week.

Has anyone read anything about different injection sites and different levels of suppression? I have seen a few posts on insta about this but not sure if there’s any truth to it.

I am still managing to eat in a deficit but the hunger is more normal than it was.

Yes - protein has two roles - as you say keeping energy levels stable and I’m sure little and often is good for that. I think the higher amount was in the context of muscle repair after resistance training.

Last week was normal water loss at the outset of a diet and is not sustainable. 0.5kg - 1kg is sustainable loss. It’s better to lose slowly as helps with skin elasticity and also less risk of muscle loss. I think need to set expectations of 1lb a week.

I’ve decided not to take the pen with me on holiday We are only away for 10 days so i’ll take before we go (couple of days early) and when we get back. It will mean that I won’t have supression towards end of holiday. I can see harder for a longer holiday.

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 15/07/2025 19:14

My third injection is due tonight (usually I'm in the office on a Tuesday so hence the late night injection time) and I can definitely tell suppression has worn off.

I had some Greek yogurt with fruit and a handful of almonds for breakfast. Then a 2 egg white omelette for lunch. I had a 4pm meeting which ran over and my kids were all dramatic that they were starving so I ordered them takeaway. I picked at their left overs - 2 chicken nuggets, a handful of fries and 1 onion bhaji. I was starving but did fill up quickly.

I'm sure normal service will resume tomorrow.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 15/07/2025 19:47

W1D4 and I'm definitely noticing the effects wearing off. Still eating healthily but getting very hungry when meals are due, and starting to get some food noise creeping back in. I think I'll be ok on motivation and willpower until my next jab but I hope to see a cumulative effect start to build next week as I'm not sure how long the willpower will be enough for 🫣

Thischarmlessgirl · 15/07/2025 20:47

Week 3 day 3 here. Suppression is the highest it’s been. Struggling to fancy anything. Making sure I have protein and fibre but it’s a struggle. I hope it eases a bit as ideally I’d still like to enjoy some food!

WishItWasDifferent25 · 15/07/2025 20:51

Hey all. Question for the ladies. I’m on week two of Wegovy, chosen over MJ because it apparently doesn’t affect pill / hrt. Haven’t had a period in years and I’ve now had three days of bleeding. Nothing else has changed so can only be this. No other real side effects. Anyone else? Have contacted provider to see what they say….
