Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

daisydreamies · 27/06/2025 14:17

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

Wow, I was feeling really hungry after work (although after less food than I would normally have) and didn't think I was getting full effect yet, but I've just had to stop eating partway through my dinner as I just can't face any more of it (and it's bloody delicious!!). Good for calorie reduction but not so good for protein - it's a bloody omelette!!

I am going to have my first injection tomorrow. After lots of discussion with family, the weight management nurse and the pharmacist at my local chemist, I decided to go for it. My BMI is 40.5 and it needs to be 23!

And all of a sudden I feel very nervous and wondering whether I'm doing the right thing. Did anyone else have last minute jitters?

Edited

Go for it. Choosing tomorrow is always scary, but change only happens if you change something. I wish you all success. x

Well... I took my first dose last night! Very strong nostalgia for the days when I was doing IVF... I know that at 0.25 I won't be getting the full effect but slightly disappointed to see that I fully wanted the same breakfast as normal... I will see how it goes.

Confused on the dose you are on ?
Do you mean 2.5mg ?

Good luck! I waited for Thursday as I know that I find the weekend the hardest and I wanted to have the most appetite suppression over the weekend.

I just don't know how to get 90g protein a day. I almost always hit 55g and up to 75g on some days. Obviously I understand how to put protein in a meal, it's how to get 90g cumulatively without eating four meat-based meals a day, iykwim. (I am not a fan od powders, shakes, Huel etc: too processed.)

Eggs, yoghurt, nuts, beans

Bunnie22 · 14/07/2025 22:24

Took my second jab this morning. Suppression lasted right through, so very happy with that. I have to say though, the side effects have been worse this time around. Has anybody else found this? It's presumably because I've still got some of last weeks meds in my system. Horrible headache and retinal migraine, and sickness which completely floored me today. I'm going to do my jab a day later next week to see if it helps reduce these early side effects.

Ah sorry, I'm on Wegovy - different starting dose. I'm gratefully squatting on this thread as there's not a lot of Wegovy chat on here for some reason (is Mounjaro the main one prescribed in the UK?)

Academicallyminded · 15/07/2025 06:28

After last minute jitters, I bit the bullet and took my first dose last night too. The injection itself was surprisingly easy, and so far, not feeling effects or side effects.

While I have waxed and waned all my adult life, in the recent past I've made real strides personally in getting comfortable with and feeling positive about my body, at a higher weight, especially with all the exercise I'm doing. I found the book 'The body is not an apology: the power of radical self-love' insightful. I decided to take the plunge with Mounjaro because of entering prediabetic territory, menopause and just not being able to shift the weight.

Anyone else feel conflicted - their body positivity warring with the need/desire to lose weight?

End of week 2 and after my whining I lost 2lb taking my Total to 8lbs on 2 weeks.

I found out last night that I need to go to London for work for 3 nights at the end of the August. Usually I love this and scoff 3 takeaways/meals out. But now I'm thinking how the hell am I going to eat properly 🤣. Only saving grace is that I travel down on a Tuesday and back on a Friday. These are when my appetite suppression is at the highest so I might be able to mark myself safe from the takeaway lure. It'll be good prep for the 2 week all inclusive holiday I've got in September.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 15/07/2025 07:21

I've woken up super hungry this morning, probably because I didn't eat much for dinner last night, but I'm ok with that - I figured a bit of hunger is ok when I'm due a meal, it's the hunger between meals that needs to be suppressed, and it is. I'm finding I'm eating around 12-1300 calories a day (which is a massive deficit for me due to my weight) but I'm feeling good on it and would struggle to eat more without resorting to empty calories. I just weighed myself and I've lost 3kg in 3 days - that's ok for the first week as it will be mostly water but I'll have to watch carefully how it goes after that as I don't want to lose it too fast.

I’m really struggling with protein too and try to stay away from processed foods. I’ve found a protein shake company that has whole food and upf free shakes. They are arriving today so will let you know how they are. They also do vegan versions. I know it’s the only way I’ll be able to get my protein in running around after 2 little ones and putting myself last all the time

Elephantscantjump · 15/07/2025 07:26

Hi all,

Jumping on as a new starter, I've just been approved by numan and awaiting delivery of mj. I think similar to most people I've been dieting on and off since my teen years and have just recently been diagnosed with pcos.

Going to try and really up my exercise to try and reduce the risk of huge amounts of saggy skin as I'm really worried I'll end up hating what I look like despite being a healthier weight. It feels shallow but it is worrying me a lot.

MeridaBrave · 15/07/2025 07:29

Bunnie22 · 14/07/2025 22:18

Eggs, yoghurt, nuts, beans

Nuts are a poor source of protein. You’d have an eat a lot of calories to get a 25-30g serving. Eg cashews 100g would give you 18g of protein ans around 600 calories.

Emas82 · 15/07/2025 07:41

@DarkSuitsSadSongsthe benefit of being in London is at least there's a ton of choice, I'm sure you can find something healthy and suitable. Even if you go to a supermarket for lunch these days you can get a meal deal which can fit in with your calorie/protein goals

Good luck. Resistance training also important to avoid muscle loss. Get help with this if you aren’t sure what to do…

Chose restaurants with tuna or chicken salad. Easy to buy salads for lunch. Supermarkets can buy Greek yogurt / cottage cheese etc.

My hotel includes breakfast so my loose plan is to fill up on a healthy breakfast (they do a lovely omelette to order). There's a Tesco on my way back from the office there so could grab a nice salad for dinner. I will miss Shake Shack which is always a meal when I'm in London and 😄

W1D6, I was going to jab a day early as I'd felt the suppression waning, but actually what I was feeling was a little bit of hunger with no follow-through. I couldn't finish my lunch or my dinner yesterday so I'm going to keep to the schedule. This week have lost either 300g or 400g daily (0.7 or 0.9 of a lb) and been feeling pretty good apart from the odd background pang of nausea. I think that's a good outcome for me. Also strength training which feels bloody fantastic.

Goals: more water, more protein, more exercise. Feeling very in control.

Rallentanda · 15/07/2025 09:03

Oh and a NSV: DH and I are going on a mini-break (picture Bridget Jones in an open-top sports car lol) and he asked if I wanted to go to a fantastic and expensive restaurant we went to last year. I realised it just wasn't worth it! It's a set menu, I'll never be able to eat it!

1023nina · 15/07/2025 09:46

so I'm trying to up my protein and eat more as I've had no appetite and feeling meh and tired, worse this week (w2 d3) then last week

EnglishGirlApproximately · 15/07/2025 11:50

W2 D2 - had what I'd consider a win today. Was at a hotel last night as working away and just had fruit and yoghurt with a mint tea at breakfast. Normally I wouldn't be able to resist the pastries and a couple of cappuccinos but I just wasn't bothered.
One of the interesting things to come from this is how much less coffee I'm drinking, maybe 3 all week last week rather than 2-3 a day.
