Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

daisydreamies · 27/06/2025 14:17

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

@Sux2butheni felt like this this morning. My original plan was to start on Thursday but I decided I'd build up even further if I waited so I just went for it. FWIW it didn't hurt at all,not even a slight sting. I've just realised I've eaten just over 1000 calories today and I'm full. Not sure if that's a placebo on my first day but I normally try to stick to 1500 and I'm often still hungry on that.

Sux2buthen · 07/07/2025 19:19

Thankyou, not sure where the sudden nerves have come from! I’m reminding myself I can just not take it again if it doesn’t agree and reading about people’s positive experiences certainly helps. Best of luck to you!

Can I run in to ask a question- I’m thinking of starting but I’m going to a festival the last weekend in July.

Should I wait until I get back? I’m concerned for side effects and festival toilets.

I haven’t had any gastrointestinal side effects, many people don’t. I wouldn’t start immediately before, but if you wait for the “perfectl time are you at risk of procrastinating indefinitely?

My own experience of side effects is minimal, sulphur burps and a bit windy the first couple of days post jab 1, everyone is different but the starting dose is also there to minimise side effects and get your body used to it for moving up doses.

Beachcomber81 · 07/07/2025 20:30

I took my first jab at 15:30 today. Is it unusual that I don’t feel any different?

Perhaps I’m judging too soon!

The jab was a breeze though, much to my relief. Very easy to pop in and no pain. Smile

Yes. You know me well.

if I started on Monday I would have 10 days before I go away

Sux2buthen · 07/07/2025 21:13

Well I’ve done it, I’m imagining I’m already tired I think 😂probably just relieved I’ve done it and worn out from the tension

Macaroni46 · 07/07/2025 22:37

How’s everyone doing?
Finally weighed myself tonight. Bit disappointed to have only lost 4lbs in two weeks but I’ve always found it incredibly hard to lose weight.

1023nina · 07/07/2025 22:46

so over 48hrs since my first dosage, side affects of feeling sick and taste in my mouth like I got before being diagnosed as type 2 (over 5 years ago).
my appetite has gone within 24hrs, much to the affect that I had a few very low bloods which even meant I had to eat a full packet of jaffa cakes to get levels above 5, I was still taking both long and fast reacting insulin...so today I've only had a half regular does of fast acting and half my normal dose of long lasting and had near perfect readings all day.....so the thing um struggling with is actually eating, I need to increase my protein i think as only had two bites of a sandwich at dinner and 5 bolied pots and 2 slices of ham and cheese with a greek yogurt anyone else really struggling with what to eat, especially if your diabetic?

Titianshe · 07/07/2025 23:11

Hey all. Took my first injection this afternoon 😬. It’s quite possibly an awful time to start as so much is going wrong in family life. However, I do feel I need to get fit and healthy to deal with these issues and make sure I’m around as long as possible

4lbs in two weeks is great, don’t beat yourself up about it, a loss is a loss, well done x

Sux2buthen · 08/07/2025 06:34

@Macaroni46i agree with pp, four pounds is brilliant and a sensible loss in the time frame 👍🏻👍🏻
im about 10 hours in and I definitely feel a bit ick but not too badly

Morning

Today is end of week 1 for me.

SW: 12st 8.5
CW 12st 2.5

So a loss of 6lb.

Very happy with that. Looking back at old weight loss trackers It would normally take me about 8 weeks to lose that.

Hi, I’m only 24 hours in and I’m type 1 diabetic (for 30 years). I’ve had to reduce all my doses too, especially the long acting. I had a hypo yesterday but I used orange juice to treat it as I couldn’t face eating. I’m going to try meal replacement shakes to see if that helps. I’m lucky I’m under the care of an endocrinologist for mounjaro and that’s what he suggested as we have to be careful.

That's incredible you must be over the moon. If I put absolutely loads of effort into diet and exercise I normally lose about half a pound a week so if I'm even close to that after a week I'll be go smacked!

So 24 hours in and I feel fine, no side effects so far and I'm also not hungry. I ate greek yoghurt and fruit for breakfast as I know I need to eat a reasonable amount of calories.
Last night I finished on about 1200 calories and I wasn't hungry, normally I'd be starving at that.
I fully expected to have to wait to go up a dose to feel any effect but so far so good. It's quite possible that I'm actually just listening to my body properly rather than just eating but either way it's a start.

Carlyh02 · 08/07/2025 09:17

Did my first jab last night - no side effects, though a poor nights sleep - i think that's because i psyched myself up so much about injecting!
Don't feel that hungry this morning but going to have the usual yoghurt and fruit - not sure if thats the injection working so quickly or im just not bothered?

I think I'm one of the unlucky ones who is having bad side effects.
Took my first jab on Friday morning (4th July). Felt suppression kick in Friday evening. Saturday had to force a piece of toast down me at lunchtime and could barely touch my spaghetti bol at teatime. I had sulphur burps beginning Saturday too. Sunday morning I had horrendous diarrhea and spent the whole day in bed only managing to suck ice cubes and sip the tiniest amount of peppermint tea. I was meant to be in work yesterday but my stomach was still off so I had to call in sick (not great as I'm on a phased return). I slept on and off most of yesterday again, only being able to stomach ice cubes and peppermint tea. I had a couple of bouts of diarrhea but I'm empty so there's nothing to come out. I feel nauseous and like I have pit in my stomach. I ended up feeling really anxious last night and cried because I feel like such a failure at this. I hate being nauseous and I was worried about how long these side effects will go on for.
I've woken up this morning still feeling nauseous. I've sipped some water but cant move without feeling like I'm going to be sick.
I really don't think I'm going to continue on the jab. I don't think it agrees with me at all.
Everyone keeps telling me to persevere as it eases off but I'm a wimp when it comes to being unwell and the way I'm feeling isn't worth it.
I've taken imodium to try and help but I've not been able to stomach any food at all since Saturday night. 🫤. Even the thought of food makes me want to gag which in turn makes my anxiety worse.
I'm meant to be in work tomorrow but unless I get a hold on things today.. I won't be able to.

Bunnie22 · 08/07/2025 10:02

Did my first jab early afternoon yesterday. Had a little bit of queasiness/sicky-ness at bedtime so had a couple of rennies and it went away. Have no appetite this morning, but have had greek you and a banana.
One question, does anybody else think it's affecting their eyes? My eyes seem a bit blurry and I keep blinking to try to clear it.

Cherryblossom6754 · 08/07/2025 10:35

Hi, so in my first week I've lost 4lbs, minimal side effects.
I felt the appetite suppression for the first 4 days then by the weekend I was back to snacking, so I need to be aware and curb my habits!
I did make sure to have smaller carb portions.
I excersized 3 times so will keep that up.
Let's see what this week brings 😀

Oh no I’m sorry to hear that. It sounds awful. Don’t force yourself to continue if it’s making you feel unwell. There are other medications you can try (if you want to).

You could always try a different spot to inject (you can do thigh, arm or stomach), I’ve read that people’s side effects are different depending on where they inject, if you want to continue that is.

I hope you feel better soon!

Oh that sounds rough. I wonder if you could switch to the other option (eg if using mournjaro try ozempic)? I would probably persevere with a second dose but if it doesn’t improve then maybe it’s not for you.

Exactly the same for me! Appetite back and constipation gone, next jab due Thursday. Lost 4kg so far in 5 days, but started on my period so imagine some of that is period fluctuation, definitely can't see a 4kg weight loss

EvelynSalt · 08/07/2025 13:47

Is anyone else experiencing this? Very suppressed appetite until you eat…and eating basically triggering feeling hungry?

I keep getting this and it’s weird. Wondering if it’s just me!
