Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

daisydreamies · 27/06/2025 14:17

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

@Mounjamtastickthank you. Over the last year I've definitely been upping my protein and trying to eat fewer or better carbs but I still find i don't get full without them, so I'm really hoping that this helps.
It's mad isn't it, like you I know what's needed to lose weight and I'm capable of coming up with a great plan, but it just doesn't seem to work. I eat by far the least and healthiest in my family but I'm the fattest.

Rallentanda · 07/07/2025 08:50

I am so impatient to get started! Won't be for a few days.

I've made a shopping list: antacids, peppermint capsules, ginger to make tea, Senokot just in case, linseed and chia - anything else whilst I'm out shopping?

ETA and a bristle body brush - worried about loose skin at 53.

You’re probably like me, I have PCOS but some people manifest insulin resistance as type 2 diabetes instead. It’s all caused by the same thing: some people’s insulin sensitivity is just pants, and still we attach virtue and shame to what is essentially a genetic difference in the way our bodies work. The equivalence I keep coming back to is imagine you’re allergic to peanuts and everyone not only says that’s your fault, but also calls you lazy and lacking willpower that you don’t just eat more of them to get used to them and therefore not be allergic anymore. What’s more, there’s people who just don’t like peanuts and you’re treated the exact same way as those people. This is like when you have more than 4st to
lose and everyone thinks that’s the same as needed to drop 10lbs for a holiday.

notsochattysue · 07/07/2025 09:12

I am
using My fitness pal to keep a track of my food. Just as a diary tool rather than anything else. I was looking through and I opened the account in 2020 I added a picture then. I was 2 stone lighter!!! So I feel like I need to loose two stone even to get to ground zero!!

AirborneElephant · 07/07/2025 09:13

Second week weigh in (includes half a week before the first jab but when I was on a proper diet, so I’m including it because I’m impatient! Going to stick to that as a SW going forward).
SW 88.9 kg
W1: 86.0 kg
W2: 84.9 kg

So a 1.1 kg loss. Very happy with that. Interestingly my body fat % didn’t shift at all in W1, but has gone down 1% this week despite the smaller loss, and went down the most on the day I gained half a kilo. So I’m hopeful I’m starting to burn the actual fat. Starting body fat 36.5%, current 35.3%, target 27%.

That's interesting - I've never tested for insulin resistance but it would make sense from what you said. I find it so frustrating that there's an assumption that my weight means I eat constant takeaways and chocolate when I really don't. I'm not claiming my diet is perfect but I eat very normally, mostly good home cooked food with the odd treat.

Well it's arrived, super quick from applying on Saturday. Just deciding wether to start today

Nellieinthebarn · 07/07/2025 11:34

W2 D3. I woke up really early and very hungry this morning, I thought well this bloody injection has stopped working. But then I remembered I hadn't actually eaten since about 3 PM the previous day, so I was being unreasonable. Decided to call this a fast, and had breakfast at 4 AM!

HelloQuery · 07/07/2025 11:35

Just took my first shot now. Hoping it all goes well. Do any of you use any apps to track etc? I have shotsy but some things are premium only...anything better/free you would recommend?

Artymummy10 · 07/07/2025 11:38

I had my first jab on Wednesday and so my next one is two days away. It’s been great so far but I can definitely feel the appetite suppression is a bit less today. Feeling a bit more hungry but nothing that isn’t manageable. I’ll be very interested to see wha the scales say on Wednesday!

Bunnie22 · 07/07/2025 13:09

Hope everyone's ok and doing well.

My pen has just been delivered and I've done my first jab (couldn't wait!). Havnt weighed this morning, and it's lunchtime now and I've eaten, etc. I'll weigh properly first thing tomorrow, but probably sitting around 12st 4lbs. Aiming for 10st or just under. So excited to be on this journey with you all!

ConfusedMumDotCom · 07/07/2025 13:13

I have a question. I am due to go on holiday in a couple of weeks - two weeks in greece. I am due to start my next pen, 5mg the Friday before we fly. I’m considering sticking at 2.5 for another month as I’m doing well with the side effects and am keen to enjoy the odd glass of wine. I’m also concerned about going up a dose and then the side effects get bad on holiday. What would you do?

I'm in a similar position - due to go on holiday just before I start my second month - and have mostly decided not to go up this time. My appetite suppression hasn't been complete on 2.5mg but I've still lost weight so I think sticking at this level another month will be fine.

I'm a bit worried about being questioned at baggage check at the airport about the pen and needles, that's my main worry.

Thischarmlessgirl · 07/07/2025 13:56

@AbitSceptical and @ConfusedMumDotCom I’m in the same situation, I actually posted on the main board earlier because my next pen is literally due for me to start on the second day of my holiday and I don’t want to take it there and have to refrigerate it as we are staying with family and they don’t know I’m on it.
i’ve ordered the 5 mg pen, but I’m going to do 2 1/2 for the two weeks of the holiday because I don’t want to have any side-effects other than the ones I already have when I’m away and still want to be able to enjoy family meals et cetera, then when I come back, I will potentially try going up to 5 mg. I’m also going to move my jabbing day forward one day this week, and one day next week so I can jab the morning that I fly and not have to worry about refrigerating the pen.

I spoke to my provider about this as I'm away in September.

They sent me a pdf of my actual prescription and said this with the dispensing label on the box would satisfy airport security.

ConfusedMumDotCom · 07/07/2025 14:14

Thank you! I think I’ll ask my provider to keep me on 2.5 and provide me with a script.

Emas82 · 07/07/2025 15:15

I've just downloaded the Shotsy app! It's great, I recommend. Just the free version. I had previously downloaded a journal/diary app to keep track of how I was feeling, but there's sections on the Shotsy app for that too! Deleted the journal app, it kept sending me loads of notifications even though I turned them off.

AbitSceptical · 07/07/2025 16:21

@Emas82 I also use Shotsy and agree with your recommendation 😊

Yes I thought I would jab just before I went and not bother whilst on holiday. Aside from the security at airport I don't want my teenage DC to know. Would rather just not have any weight loss for one week!!as if happens, I lost weight on holiday last year as busy hiking most of each day and limited opportunity to eat!

VordLoldemort · 07/07/2025 17:16

Also using Shotsy and it’s great!

Im week 1 done, just done my second jab, here’s the low down for anyone still apprehensive,

I’m scared of needles so thought I’d test the sharpness of the pen against my skin to prepare myself for it, but it slipped straight in so I just pressed it down and didn’t feel a thing.

I felt the effects within about 3 hours, so Mon-Thurs I really struggled to get calories in as I wasn’t hungry and felt stuffed after eating very little. I’m an emotional eater so I was eating mine and everyone else’s emotions it’s seems as my start weight was 17stone at 5ft6.5. But the food noise was gone completely them first 4 days.

it was back by Friday, and I got through sat and sun by sheer willpower alone.

My only side effects were sulphur burps and trapped wind feeling on day 1 and 2.

After my first week completed I am a total of 6pounds down.

I went with Medexpress, feel free to PM me if anyone wants my £40 off code.

I’m with Shemed and they sent a care package with all of this but actually I’ve not had any side effects at all. I wouldn’t buy until you need.

Wildflowerblooms · 07/07/2025 17:33

Will be taking my second jab tonight, my first week was a bit rough. I spent Wednesday and Thursday really nauseous and a bit dizzy, but that tapered off after that. I’m hoping that this week goes better and I don’t have any more side effects. Just wondering if anyone else is using this for controlling their diabetes felt any dizziness? I mentioned it to my gp who said said it was a common side effect and I should drink more water. My start weight was 13st 9lb, current weight after the first week is 13st 6lb.

Sux2buthen · 07/07/2025 17:36

My pen arrived today, I’m feeling very apprehensive about using it, I’m not sure why exactly.
I need something to kickstart my body because I’m simply too heavy and I want to be healthy.
lots to lose
SW: 16st 7
5ft 7
not sure what my goal weight is, I’m thinking how I feel would be a good indicator.

Mounjamtastick · 07/07/2025 18:21

First day nearly done - couple of niggly side effects but the main thing has been I’m absolutely dog tired. Like bone deep, completely wiped out. Hopefully that settles off soon!

Bunnie22 · 07/07/2025 19:04

Took my first jab at lunchtime, so only a few hours in. No side effects to speak of so far, except I'm freezing! Don't feel like eating either, so something's happening.
