Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

daisydreamies · 27/06/2025 14:17

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

My friend has recommended a good multivitamin and spatone for iron. But just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions.

peppermint capsules, windeze and immodium were her suggestions to have in case of side effects.

Some great weight losses. Very encouraging to see. I'm weighing in the morning. Has anyone taken the jab straight from the fridge? I want to take it in the morning and don't know if I'll be up early enough to let it warm up.

I take mine straight from the fridge

Maybe a bit of a premature question, but when is everyone planning to reorder? I don’t want to leave it too late and risk missing a dose. Equally, I don’t want to order too early because, at the moment, I’m thinking of staying on 2.5mg for another four weeks. But as I get into week three for example, I might think differently and want to go up to 5mg.

How are you all figuring out whether to increase your dose, or stay on 2.5?

AirborneElephant · 06/07/2025 19:34

You can always order the 5mg and short dose for as many times as you want @EvelynSalt . There’s not much difference in price, so would be much cheaper.

Same here. Stings a little compared to room temp, but nothing much.

Asda (who I use) recommends to order 2 weeks before you run out, so see if your provider has a recommendation on when to order. I ordered my second pen earlier and after a chat with my husband, we both agreed that I should go up to 5mg as recommended and see how I go.

Wk2 D2
I've actually felt quite hungry today and I'm very cold and tired.

Managed to keep within calories for the day and had lots of protein but feels odd as last week I wasn't hungry at all

EnglishGirlApproximately · 06/07/2025 20:51

I know that this isn't a quick fix without also needing to improve my diet but just wondering what everyone else's approach is? Are you calorie counting or just aiming to reduce snacking? I've been calorie counting for so long I'd love to stop but I'm worried about having poor judgement without it.

JimmyGrimble · 06/07/2025 20:58

I put my food into My Fitness Pal (just the free one) which I like because you get a breakdown of nutrients so you know if you need more protein, fibre etc. This is very new for me though and I feel that at the moment I need a handle on my calorie deficit. Everyone’s different though. I’m W2 D2 and struggling to eat my calories.

I’ve ordered mine today, it can keep in the fridge unopened. I’ve ordered 5mg as the SE are minimal.

I’ve done a few days of calorie counting to get an idea of how much I should eat (or shouldn’t). I’m trying to do a more relaxed approach to weight loss as calorie counting causes me a lot of stress. I’ve pretty much stopped snacking (although I did have one snack on the days when the hunger suppression started to wear off). The hunger suppression and lack of food noise makes it easier to eat less and make better food choices

I’m not calorie counting at the moment, largely because I find I get obsessive and then when I inevitably get too busy to log stuff, feel absolutely awful about it! So similar to PP, I’ve cut out snacking and am making healthier choices.

If I need to count I will, particularly macros, but wanted to try this way for the first month or so.

Thanks for your answers on timing, I’ll get my next pen ordered. Really struggling to decide whether to take the step up to 5mg.

WhereIsSpot · 06/07/2025 21:59

Doing the same as mentioned above. Not calorie counting as I can get a bot too intense about it. I'm snacking way less abd making better choices if I do feel like something. Second dose tomo and I'm hoping for a bit of appetite suppression.

Ive been wondering about this too. I am a little scared of SE on the 5mg if I do decide to go up. Ive been jabbing on a Friday tea time, and waking up on Saturday and Sunday with an awful headache, nausea and feeling really tired all weekend. These has been improving by Monday, thankfully, in time for work, but I am worried ill feel even worse on a higher dose x

EnglishGirlApproximately · 06/07/2025 22:06

Thanks all, the idea of no longer weighing milk for my tea is incredibly appealing!

Wiggles33 · 06/07/2025 22:36

4.5lbs lost in the first week! So my day 7 snacking didn’t have a huge effect on the scales 🙌🏻 just taken my 2nd dose…

I’ve been cutting out snacking and sugar. No calorie counting

Thischarmlessgirl · 07/07/2025 07:32

morning, happy Monday. There’s been some great losses so well done everyone and good luck to those weighing in soon.
I am undecided about going up to 5mg too, it will literally be due as I go on holiday abroad for a fortnight. My side effects on 2.5 have been ok and my suppression for the first five days of the week. I’m worried about going I’m on holiday and feeling unwell but also not being able to eat (away with extended family who will notice) so I’m thinking of ordering a 5mg pen but doing 2.5 for the time I am away then increasing to 5mg once home.
Did my 2nd jab last night and woke up with reflux/heartburn and feeling full but ok so far.

Mounjamtastick · 07/07/2025 07:58

I’ve just done my first jab. Bottoms up ladies, here goes nothing!

Ive got to do the weekly shop today so plan to focus on protein rich foods for me.

Officially starting this thing at:
SW: 20st 2lbs
TW: 14st (will still be overweight as I’m 5ft 5, but that’s my lowest ever adult weight)
Healthy weight range: under 10st (cannot fathom what this would even be like so I’m ignoring it)

ByLemonFish · 07/07/2025 08:03

Good luck 👍

WhereIsSpot · 07/07/2025 08:17

First week down. I am down 2.3kg or 5lbs. Absolutely thrilled. I would be happy with a pound or two a week going forward but it's encouraging to have a good start. Second jab done, did it straight from the fridge and it was totally fine.

Personally I’m using it as a tool to enable me to stick to a lower carb diet. I’m hormonally ridiculous and very insulin resistant as a result so the only way weight comes off me is with low carb. I’m a professional data nerd so there’s been a lot of spreadsheets, tracking and researching over the years so I actually have diet plan results back to 2011, plus reflections, long term effectiveness and comparable daily calorie deficit per diet plan, If I’m eating carbs I have to eat less than 800 cals a day to lose anything, without carbs I can eat 1800 and still drop weight, it’s mental. I know exactly what I need to eat to lose weight (I lost 8st for my wedding), I’ve tried everything and it’s the only thing that works for me. the problem for me is it’s restrictive and extreme so therefore unsustainable. Still the most effective way of eating I’ve come across for weight loss though by a mile according to the master spreadsheet.

So, the plan is high protein, moderate fat and low carb but no calorie counting or tracking. Then using the mounjaro as a sidekick to help with initial cravings in the first few weeks and longer term sustainability. I just stick to foods with less than 10g carb per 100g and ideally 6g carb per 100g, and any dairy etc I eat has to be full fat. Then I just prioritise protein in each meal. The biggest struggle is breakfast so I do also use protein shakes or protein yoghurts for that.

JustKateThings · 07/07/2025 08:28

I’d like to join! I did my first jab of 2.5 this morning. I’m type 1 diabetic so have been prescribed Mounjaro under the care of my endocrinologist and am being monitored closely. I have PCOS, Hashimoto’s disease, insomnia along with the Type 1 diabetes. I also found out that I had been taking HRT for 2 years when I don’t need it which sent my oestrogen way too high. All of these have meant I put on 10kgs in a year. My BMI is 30, and I’m aiming to get to 25 so I need to lose 12/13 kgs. Good luck to everyone!
