Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

daisydreamies · 27/06/2025 14:17

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

Did my first jab today, and go on holiday tmrw, hoping I don’t have any side effects.

I am embarrassed to admit that I am 88 kg, higher than either of my pregnancy weights! F*cking menopause!
My goal weight is 62 kg.

Em85kk · 04/07/2025 20:44

@LemonLimeWater don't be embarrassed! 92kg here, wanting to get back to pre pregnancy (x2) of 60kg. We’re all in the same boat 👍🏼

I have received my first pen but have write a few things this weekend where I don't want to be struggling with side effects so plan is to take the first jab on Sunday night. I'm so inapired by all of you

I’ve had literally no side effects other than a bit of nausea for 2 days after I had my first jab, I wouldn’t worry too much! I think the media loves to fear monger.

Mariecat1970 · 04/07/2025 22:24

Hi, I’d like to join if that’s ok? Literally just did my first jab, I’ve been thinking about doing this for months and finally decided to go for it.

So nervous about the potential side effects and also if I’m expecting too much and it just might not work for me, but I’ve tried every diet under the sun and need to do something!

CookieQueen1986 · 04/07/2025 22:46

I know it’s early days but I’m day two and for the first time I can remember in my whole life, I haven’t had any sugar cravings. Not for one moment. As a massive sugar addict, I cannot tell you how incredible that feels!!
Only side effects so far is a headache and a horrible looking bruise at the injection site.

Give it a go!! If you want change, you first have to change yourself. I was nervous too but sometimes you just gotta be brave 😁

Well done on all the weight loses. Its great to hear people are having success. Weigh days is Monday so I will report in then. Still no side effects but I haven't had major appetite suppression. I have been far more conscious of what I am eating.

CarelessWhisper1966 · 04/07/2025 23:27

SW 99.4kg
End of week 1 95.4kg

Very happy with that. Minor headache last week but never felt hungry once. Obviously loss will slow down. 5.4kg to my first target and feeling totally focused

Nellieinthebarn · 05/07/2025 07:17

First weigh in today.
SW 84.4
CW 82.1
So I have lost about 5lb in the first week, I am so pleased with that. Minor SE, of a headache, a bit of nausea and a bit of tiredness, but all very manageable.

Em85kk · 05/07/2025 08:46

1st week done
SW 91.3
CW 89.6

Not massive but it’s better than nothing!

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 05/07/2025 09:07

As expected my hunger is coming nack slightly (injection day is Tuesday) but TBH this is quite welcome as I really struggled to eat and was a little worried.

Interestingly I have IBS and was nervous about making that worse but it's greatly improved. I've had no flares and the daily cramps are gone. I think it might be a combination of eating far less and my digestion being slowed so food is not dumped straight through me.

Thischarmlessgirl · 05/07/2025 09:19

Weighed in and only lost 1lb which obviously is better than nothing but I am a bit disappointed as my suppression has been quite high and I’ve been in deficit every day.
i do have PCOS and I’m due my period so perhaps it’s part of that. I know it’s a marathon not a sprint so just need to keep that in mind I guess.

EvelynSalt · 05/07/2025 09:41

For those who are losing 3+ kg in a week, I’m curious are you exercising a lot as well? Or mainly focusing on food? It’s interesting to see that we have quite a range of losses, and I know that’s natural as every body is different! Just wondering if I should be making more effort to exercise (I mean…of course I should. But you know what I mean I hope!)

I haven’t exercised, just been watching what I eat (lots of protein and fibre too).

You might see a big jump next week? Even if not, slow and steady wins the race. Sympathies for the PCOS, I can empathise with the impact of this!

@EvelynSalt Thank you. I hope so and yes PCIS is a b*stard

I don’t have periods any more but when I did I could lose half a stone between build up and it arriving. Was a proper bugger. I also think that the body holds onto water in the premenstrual stage. Fingers crossed for you next week.

Mounjamtastick · 05/07/2025 10:44

Can I just rant for a moment?

So I will have my first injection on Monday. I decided to tell my mum and MIL I’m starting Mounjaro (we eat with them regularly). Both know I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life.

Mums reaction: ‘that’s cheating you just need to eat less, what about low carb again you did well on that?’ - yes mum, then came off and regained 4 stone in a year. Also how can it be cheating? I wasn’t aware I was in a competition with anyone.

MIL (who also struggles with her weight and has been on slimming world for 18 years gaining and losing the same 3 stone): come to slimming world with me it really works and you never feel hungry. My friend has done weight loss jabs and she’s lost too much she looks awful now.’ - I’ve done slimming world, found it fine but didn’t lose anything significant (PCOS so it’s possibly too carby for me), and what a lovely problem for her friend to have.

I just feel so deflated. Finally someone has come to me with a possible cure for obesity that’s plagued my entire life and I’m told I’m cheating and that I shouldn’t do it. Why is my weight a morality problem to everyone and not a simple medical one??

My mum said very similar when I said I was planning to go on mounjaro. I probably won't actually tell her I am on it unless she asks (i.e. once I have lost significant weight), as I cba to deal with her judgment, especially if it turns out not to work for me!

I hate the morality aspect around weight loss and weight problems.

I also think if you have an overweight parent it is particularly hard for them to see their kids overcoming obesity.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/07/2025 10:55

Morning, can I join you? I've just ordered via Voy so waiting for approval so probably be a week or so before I start.
I've been considering it for a while as I'm becoming increasingly aware of how many things I say no to because I'm 'too fat'. Last weekend we were away and I made myself join in more and realised how much I'm missing out on life. The final straw came yesterday when I was invited on an incredible overseas work trip which involves zip lining - and I want to be confident to say yes to that!
Starting weight 15st 7
Target weight - not sure yet, I've never been slim so have no point of reference for when I will feel right!
Great to hear all of your stories 😊

Sorry to hear that. I think this is probably the reason there are so many secret stabbers. I have put weight on and off my whole life. At this age I cannot shift a pound so that's why I'm giving these a go. It was that or just get fatter and fatter.

You have to do what works for you. Try not to let their comments get to you. This is your journey. Does it matter how anyone loses the weight. Surely they should be happy that you get to a healthy weight.

All these Internet strangers are here to support each other. Use this thread for that and keep your powder dry with the family.

CarbyB · 05/07/2025 11:22

Just a heads up to everyone on this journey like me. Losing weight is great and we might all lose big in the first few weeks but ultimately after that it’s best to only aim for a loss of 1-2 pounds a week otherwise you will lose a lot of muscle mass and not only fat. The best thing to do is to work out your macros to preserve muscle and fit them within your deficit. Rapid weight loss is what gives your face that sunken in look and your body the “skinny-fat” appearance.

Rallentanda · 05/07/2025 11:49

Can I join? Yesterday I registered, sent in my photos 😬and paid. Not been approved yet so will probably not be able to start till next week sometime, but I'm really excited. Told my DH and he is so supportive (and interested - he's been overweight for 30+ years). We are planning meals and extra exercise.

CW: 107.4kg = 236.8 lbs
GW: 67kg to put me in the middle of "normal BMI" = 147.7 lbs

Horrified to see that that is 40kg I need to lose! That's around 2/5 of my bodyweight.

I'm 53, post-menopause, and just haven't been able to shift a bastard kilo properly or permanently for years. I can shed 2kg over the course of a week or 10 days, and it goes right back on again with no logic to it, when I monitor exercise and what's going in. I got absolutely battered physically and mentally by menopause and am still not over it 😆This feels like the right thing to be doing.

All the best to everyone!
