Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

Poor you @JimmyGrimble . That does sound like it might be a bug. Side effects can happen at any time, but on a starter dose and at the point the medicine is gently decreasing in your system feels like a slightly strange time. Hope you feel better soon ❤️‍🩹

JimmyGrimble · 03/07/2025 14:05

Thanks AirborneElephant feeling a lot better now.

I have a NSV! I asked my husband if he noticed I'd dropped weight and he said he can see it in my face.

I think it's going to be very obvious with my in laws. I haven't told them because they can be a bit funny with my husband and I spending lots of money (tbf, until recently we've struggled a lot so I see where they're coming from). Especially since they know I've struggled to lose weight for years. I can't avoid seeing them as my MIL picks my son up on Mondays to spend time with him for a few hours. I was hoping it would be gradual enough that they wouldn't notice for a while haha

What is a NSV? Also what is SE? Sorry, bit dense. Agree with PP, say you are in a diet or intermittent fasting if you don’t want to get into it.

Today I jabbed for the first time. My starting weight is 13 stone 5.5 lbs.

Yes! Weekly, I jumped on the scales last night, 24hrs after 1st jab, don't know what I was expecting 😂

We have the same starting weight. I’d be very happy with that loss - well done you!

Newbie here 🙋‍♀️ My first pen arrived today but gonna wait until Sunday/Monday to take first dose as don’t want any nasty SEs over the weekend! I’m curious how/if it’s affected anyone’s alcohol consumption, as I drink waay too much so I’m hoping it will put me off drinking??!

So annoyed with the postman! Injection has been in our sorting office since last night and it’s not been delivered. Typical of our post here. So annoying. Sorting office is 5 mins away. Wonder if I go and beg will they give me
it. lol. (Joking obvs)

Sounds like my post! You're not in Edenbridge are you?

I’m also open to “short dosing”. This is when you go up to say a 5mg pen but you make it last for 8 doses (or 10) by using a half dose. But obviously can’t do that with the first pen as it’s 2.5mg.

Don't you have to use it within 30 days though? Will you dose twice a week?

VordLoldemort · 03/07/2025 16:36

Bunnie22 · 03/07/2025 16:32

Use within 30 days is only if it’s stored at room temp, it can be used until expiry date if kept in the fridge.

SilenceInside · 03/07/2025 16:38

It can only be kept in the fridge until the expiry date printed on it whilst the pen is unused. Once you start using it, it’s 30 days whether it’s in the fridge or not.

How soon have people experienced side effectseffects? I finally did my first injection late last night and feel so ill today. Migraine is so bad, I’m so dizzy and I feel really sick like I’m going to throw up. Everything I’ve read seems to suggest side effects take a couple of days to appear. How long did they last for anyone that’s had them? I feel awful but can’t just go to bed as I’ve got a toddler and baby to look after 😭 really hope this passes quickly

The medicine peaks in your system after 8-72 hours, so unfortunately the timing sounds right. I had a headache the next morning, it went away by the afternoon with some paracetamol. But it doesn’t sound like mine was anything like as bad as yours. Really hope you feel better soon.

Spoonmoon · 03/07/2025 17:08

Oh god…the burps 😱

CookieQueen1986 · 03/07/2025 17:15

I’ve had a headache the past couple of hours. I’m trying to drink lots of water to get rid of it

I was drinking most evenings (up to a bottle of wine), then I wanted cheese/crackers or crisps.

I had first injection Sunday morning, had one glass of wine since and really didn't enjoy it. I've lost all interest in alcohol, feels very odd lol

CookieQueen1986 · 03/07/2025 17:32

I’ve just noticed I’ve got a horrible bruise where I injected this morning! Is this normal?! (Excuse my hideous stomach)
