Anyone starting Mounjaro this weekend?

Is anyone else starting Mounjaro this weekend and fancies a support thread please join along.

I did my first injection tonight. I absolutely hate needles but found it surprisingly ok, think my last pregnancy & a complicated birth has made me a little less sensitive!

I have really gone off alcohol. I can manage 1 glass of wine socially but my taste buds are different and it tastes awful. This heat is making me so sleepy, I seem to be doing things at snails pace last couple of weeks.

I haven’t told anyone I’m on this journey and find people are quite negative about it. I don’t want the constant asking about it. Especially as I feel sick, people will just think I’m torturing myself. There must be something in it that does not agree with me as even on the 2.5mg taking half dose I still feel sick days 1-4. My bp is much lower than usual too, hence the dizziness. I must be so sensitive to drugs! I do feel sick with most antibiotics too.

How much weight have you lost ? Hopefully that’s a positive, at least.

hope1000 · 13/07/2025 19:09

@ARGYLEMIKEY I have lost a stone so far in 5 weeks and that’s not even using the full dosage of the 2.5mg. I’m doing 30 clicks instead of 60 each week so that is a real positive. I would like another stone off and will then think about weighing up the nausea and do I really want to continue.

YepIChangedMyNameForThis · 13/07/2025 19:26

TouchOfSilverShampoo · 13/07/2025 11:07

Great to see you all doing so well!!!! I lost 2lb last weigh in so 16lbs now overall in five weeks which I’m chuffed with.

Got another stone to lose before holiday in 6 weeks.

Take my advice though - last night at a party I indulged way too much on the food and alcohol. The food weren’t bad options just too much quantity. And the cocktails, well, home mixed.

I got carried away and paid the price. The vomiting and upset stomach this morning have nearly finished me off. Lesson learned!!!! Hopefully I haven’t ruined my progress too much.

More nausea on 5mg but nothing too horrendous (unless I do what I did last night!)

Oh no, I have had some indigestion after food but so far no vomit! Hope you are feeling better now.

minmooch · 13/07/2025 21:20

Have been reading all the comments. I have just ordered my first lot of MJ. Due to arrive this week. However I have a big weekend the following week. Then nothing planned for he rest of the summer. Wondering whether I should wait until after the big weekend incase of side effects? What are your thoughts?

YepIChangedMyNameForThis · 13/07/2025 23:33

@minmooch
So the big weekend is not next weekend but the one after? How big is big and do you want to go wild and eat and drink lots?
In theory the timeline is fine your body will have become accustomed to it. But if you start it and try to overeat/drink you will feel crappy. I had a slice of pizza a few nights ago and got indigestion, others have drunk and ate too much and been sick the next day.
If you want to have one last hurrah you could wait till you have had your fab weekend and then start.

TouchOfSilverShampoo · 14/07/2025 06:39

@minmooch I had this same dilemma and the problem for me was, there’s always a reason to delay it. So I just went for it and made better choices. This is about changing your lifestyle overall for the long term.

If you do need one last blow out, I would eat sensibly and healthily for a couple of days before starting the jabs just to avoid any side effects.

Other than my monumental mistake this weekend, it’s actually been really easy to go to events and dinners etc and make sensible choices because the desire to load up on cheese, fatty food, carbs, alcohol just isn’t there any more.

Best of luck starting!!

minmooch · 14/07/2025 08:05

@YepIChangedMyNameForThis and @TouchOfSilverShampoo thank you for your replies. It’s a 4 day weekend for my partners 60th with his sons and their partners. They are a boozy and foodie lot. Spa day for the girls and babysitting 6 month old grandson for me. I know I can make good food choices, I can pretend to drink. It’s the nausea and headaches I’m more worried about and ruining what should be a fab weekend.

im so excited to start but I don’t want to feel crap on the weekend. After that I have nothing planned for months.

Hmmmm just don’t know what to do

YepIChangedMyNameForThis · 14/07/2025 08:56

@TouchOfSilverShampoo you mentioning choices reminded me of my thought process last night and only being on MJ has allowed me to think this clearly. Please let it last for life and when I come off WLIs.
I was thinking about how we so often treat our weeks in 2 different parts, be good Monday to Friday evening and then woo hoo it's the weekend. Even staying in we would partake in treats. I genuinely now, without food noise stuff going on, see no difference Monday to Sunday in what I want to eat and I now realise this was such a huge problem.
I know my appetite is suppressed and there's some nausea around and I don't want a shovel of dip on my Dorito or chips from the chippy 🤢🤮 but I am also considering that whole relationship with food and as much as I thought I wasn't eating that badly, weekends definitely piled up my calories! I am also aware that without MJ I would be hungrier and less able to not eat those treaty things but hoping to keep learning like this for the time I am using the injections.

YepIChangedMyNameForThis · 14/07/2025 08:59

@minmooch Only you can decide but I think in your situation, as you have no obstacles afterwards I would wait.
Good luck whichever way you choose and we'll be here when you do start x

hope1000 · 14/07/2025 15:45

@minmooch personally I would wait. mj’s side effects are different for everyone. I have felt quite ill and only today I’ve noticed I’m not nauseous week 6. Not trying to put u off but if that was me on a fabulous weekend like you have planned when I started it, it would have been spoiled. But others have been really lucky and still able to go out.

i have no desire to drink since I started, and yes totally agree with you @YepIChangedMyNameForThisthat food choices are so different now. Weekends for me before mj were relaxed picky teas- full of pastry, cheese, crisps, dips, bread, choc, coated peanuts and wine!
Now they are protein salads, avocado and a piece of fruit with some water.
I really don’t fancy the bad things even when I feel hungry. this is great! 😊

minmooch · 15/07/2025 11:19

Thank you @hope1000. I have decided to wait until after my weekend. I’m going to eat sensibly until then, I feel really focussed so that when I start I’m already, hopefully, on the right path.

will join you all then.

Bruicer · 15/07/2025 15:00

On my 6 week but 2nd week of 5mg. Seem to have stalled on the 5mg. Anyone else had similar?

@Bruicer I am on week 6 and 1st week of 5mg, did a half dose last week as had a big out of town event.

I had lost a couple of lbs already this week, didn't weigh this morning, waiting till Thursday to weigh again. I would love to reach my stone off soon (-12lbs yesterday)However I have been very tired and a bit hungry as well today, not due next jab till Thursday.

ARGYLEMIKEY · 17/07/2025 13:49

I think I’m about to hit my first plateau 😱
W5D5 and no loss so far this week.
SW 15st
CW 14st
TW 12st

Revised TDEE 2350, actual intake 1430 daily average (micro-managed on Nutracheck. 1200 x4 days weekdays, 1730 x3 Fri to Sun). This doesn’t include any bonus calories from exercise. Eating loads of protein and fibre plus drinking lots of water too.

I realise this is normal, but it just feels odd after 4 weeks of steady losses.

Might try to mix up my easier days a bit. 12 mile walk with friends tomorrow won’t hurt things either !

SeaBaseAlpha · 17/07/2025 22:33

Feeling a bit disheartened. I'm about to take my 4th dose tomorrow, but no weight lost yet. I am aware that the 2.5 dose is not meant to do anything other than get your body used to it, but it's just a bit demoralising, especially as my friend, who started the same day I did, is consistently losing 1kg a week and making comments like "it's great, I'm still eating the same as before, but now I only want a medium McDonalds meal rather than a large one." Fair play to her, I'm happy for her that it's working, I just want to be the same!

My appetite has definitely been suppressed and I am eating less, but still not making healthy choices.. it's just ramming home that, for me at least, it's not going to be quite as simple as having an injection and that's it.

Volume of food has never really been my issue, it's the high level of bad carbs.... DH admitted to me early in our cohabitation that he had been rifling through our bins to try and find the wrappers of the food I must be eating in secret, because he couldn't believe I could weigh so much based on the food he saw me eating!

I know what I need to do.. goodbye pasta, goodbye rice! 😢

TouchOfSilverShampoo · 18/07/2025 11:09

I’ve actually gained a pound this week! But I am due on my period any second so I’m hoping that next weeks weigh in is reflective of that. A bit gutted but I also haven’t tried too hard this week.

SW - 173lbs
CW - 158lbs
GW - 135lbs

15lbs off in 7 weeks (after the first few weeks loss it’s really slowed)
23lbs to go!

Felt absolutely shattered on 5mg but hoping that gets easier. Have decided I’m gonna bump up to 7.5mg on the next pen and really fucking go for it in diet and exercise this week.

DoingItForTheKids25 · 18/07/2025 13:01

Happy weigh day! I'm almost 2 lbs down from last week (0.8kg)
Which makes
SW 95.7kg
CW 87.7kg
So 8.2kg total loss to date, or 1 stone 4lbs in 6 weeks.

I have to say I've noticed more of a change with my body this week - my double chin has almost completely done and the waistband on trousers is feeling a little loose. After a bit of a 'meh' week last week this is motivating me to keep going. Think I'm definitely going up to 5mg for my next pen though.

Well done. 2lbs down myself in the end, after my Thursday meltdown. The long walk helped a lot, although I made sure I was rehydrated before weighing in.

I’m feeling less suppression now, but still mostly off the beer (this revelation amazed my friends on the walk yesterday).

As long as I’m still losing, I’m staying on 2.5mg. Why risk the chance of side effects by doubling the dose, in my situation?

ARGYLEMIKEY · 19/07/2025 08:22

Just to add - for anyone missing fast food this weekend, how about a kebab ? Bear with me on this…

I had a chicken shish the other night for my evening meal. Two skewers of chicken, salad, pitta bread, no sauce - 490 calories and 37g of protein. If the pitta had been wholemeal (I didn’t ask, it’s not that sort of place) it would have been perfect.

Too much food ? One skewer of chicken plus salad and pitta is 322Kcal/25g.

Note - a doner kebab is 50% more calories and has all that processed meat. And sauce adds another 100 calories. Avoid !

hope1000 · 19/07/2025 08:59

Well done everyone, keep at it.
Weigh day today and I’ve lost 2.5 lbs this week. Total 1 stone 2lbs in 6 weeks. Still on the 2.5mg pen and only doing half dose. I noticed I’ve been more hungry this week, albeit can’t finish a meal so I’m not too worried. Might go up another few clicks to almost a full dose today.
I was sooo ill yesterday following home made sausages toad in hole and roast potatoes the night before. Wanted to vomit all day so won’t be doing that again.

YepIChangedMyNameForThis · 19/07/2025 12:32

Hi All

2lbs off this week. So 12lbs so far, 6 weeks in.

Things I have learnt this week - to lose weight my calories in need to be so low, no wonder I couldn't blooming do it on my own without suppression and realizing this makes me feel less of a failure.

I had to go a day late on my jab this week, took it last night and have got a headache that isn't shifting (5mg). My suppression is full on today, even reading the word doner kebab further up made me feel queasy.

I have had my reorder email and suggestion of upping to 7.5 but I will be staying at 5.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Totally agree. Plus 2.5 is cheaper so win win!

Well done to others who've had weigh day. It's really motivating to read about everyone's progress. Something I've really become aware of is portion sizes, I'm eating around 1/3rd what i did before and @YepIChangedMyNameForThis totally agree about how low total calories have to be. I wouldn't say my loss so far has been fast or slow, sort of mid range but the amount of calories has been so reduced compared to before i can't even comprehend how I'd manage without MJ.

What suppliers is everyone using? I've been using Asda but might look for a cheaper option when i order 5mg

OP posts:
ARGYLEMIKEY · 20/07/2025 11:10

I’m with Bolt Pharmacy who are in the top 10 of cheapest for 2.5mg (£120.90), get good reviews and have been fast and reliable so far. I’m sticking with them rather than risk chopping and changing just to save a few quid.
