I lost nothing in 4 weeks on first dose . Waste of money . I ate in a calorie deficit also and excersized
If the whole point of this medication is just to stop you from feeling hungry and suppress appetite rather than actually medically working to help you lose weight then it’s pointless because if I eat in a calorie deficit without it I’d lose weight anyway ?
Quite disheartening. Started at 12 stone finished at 11.13 stone. What am I doing wrong ? At this point I’m going to start eating cotton wool !

Are you absolutely and completely sure you are in a calorie deficit? Have you tracked absolutely everything? How many calories do you have a day and how tall are you would be my starting points. The jabs help you be in calorie deficit, they don’t make the weight loss in a different way.

LindorLusadi · 31/05/2025 10:22

It's not a therapeutic dose though I don't think at 2.5. I'd give it another month and see if the increased dose helps you?

OverlyFragrant · 31/05/2025 10:22

The hormones don't just stop you feeling full, they also help your body metabolise and respond to sugars differently.
These drugs are a game changer for those with metabolic problems.

TourangaLeila · 31/05/2025 10:23

So you did lose weight then? Many don't see bigger losses until higher doses.

I've never been a "big" loser. I've lost 1 or 2lb steadily per week for 6 months. Had a stall for 2 weeks at the end of my second 2.5mg pen.

It's a marathon, not a sprint.

If your so sure you can do it without the mounjaro why did you try it?

NeedForSpeed · 31/05/2025 10:23

What is your TDEE? What "deficit" were you eating to?

OnePearlHelper · 31/05/2025 10:24

You’re not in a calorie deficit, if you were you would lose on Mounjaro or not on it.

Melonjuice · 31/05/2025 10:26

thanks all ill try the 5mg and see if that makes a difference
I’ve just been eating ( and craving ) mainly salads with a bit of protein and a veg side
I’ll prob cut out potatoes and other carbs totally and go to the gym rather than excersize at home and see how that goes x

yomellamoHelly · 31/05/2025 10:26

You have to work your way through the doses until you find your level. I would say the lower ones don't work for lots of people. (I had to wait until I got to 7.5)

SnacklessWonder · 31/05/2025 10:26

You lost weight? I don't see the issue.

No need to cut out carbs.

What calories are you eating per day vs your TDEE?

usedtobeaylis · 31/05/2025 10:29

Are you tracking your calories to ensure the deficit? I thought I had a fair grip on calorie tracking because I had done it before and was estimating fairly but when I started tracking again I could see I was quite wrong on a few things I was eating. If you're tracking accurately there's no need to cut anything out. Check your TDEE and work out your deficit from that.

cramptramp · 31/05/2025 10:29

Work out your tdee. Mine was 1200 calories. I’d never have been able to stick to that if it hadn’t been for the appetite suppression from the jabs.

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 31/05/2025 10:32

Did you get any appetite suppression, I’ve found that’s the big effect of mounjaro for me, alongside quieting the food noise. That helps me be in a calorie deficit but I still track my food and I focus on eating sufficient protein.

Melonjuice · 31/05/2025 10:34

I eat no breakfast , a salad at lunch and dinner which is salad with olive oil vinegar and st dressing a meat and a veg side that’s it , no snacks . I’m also feeling quite dizzy because I’m suspecting my blood sugar is quite low so I’m a bit confused why I’m eating so little and not losing any weight. Maybe as others have said the 2.5mg is a low dose . It’s supposed to work on your hormones and weight loss is a side-effect as well as you need to eat in a calorie deficit. Maybe I just need to do a bit more reading on it.

If you started exercising at the same time as Mounjaro you might have changed your body composition and have retained water in your muscles after exercising. Try measuring with a tape around your waist or body composition scales. Lots of people have said they have a gain after exercise so you might have lost a couple more pounds but balanced with post exercise inflammation

Melonjuice · 31/05/2025 10:36

SnacklessWonder · 31/05/2025 10:26

You lost weight? I don't see the issue.

I lost 1lb but my weight goes up and down by 1 lb anyway without the injection - most people fluctuate like this naturally

OP posts:
Golidlocksandthethreeswears · 31/05/2025 10:41

Let's start from the beginning. What's your...

Height and start weight?
Approx calorie intake/diet like beforehand?
What are you eating now - can you give some tracker screen shots or examples?
What exercise did you do beforehand? What are you doing now?

Winter2020 · 31/05/2025 10:41

I tracked calories closely for my first few months and found if I averaged less than 2000 cals I lost a pound or two, more than 2000 cals I stayed the same. The medication just makes it easier to eat fewer calories as you are less hungry with less unhealthy cravings or emotional eating.

NeedForSpeed · 31/05/2025 10:41

But you're not counting the calories? So how do you know if you're in a deficit?

How much oil do you use? 2 tbsp olive oil is 240 calories for example.

What is your height, weight and exercise level? How many calories a day does your body need to survive? How many below that are you eating per day?

1lb body fat requires an approx deficit of 3500 calories. So if you're only eating just below your TDEE and not burning calories in other ways, you will lose weight extremely slowly.

https://tdeecalculator.net/ - put your details through that, see where you need to be and check it against your calorie intake at the moment.

Highly restrictive diets are not sustainable and tend to lead to failure. You might do better to look at how to maximise what you get to eat in your calorie amount per day, stay filled up, eat things you actually enjoy and have abetter chance at success for the longer term.

Mounjaro is an excellent tool to look at how to make long term changes to how you look at food and how you eat.

Hello I am 5’6 was 12 before now 11.13
diet before hand was terrible ( depression combined with very inactive sit down stressful job) usually Sainsbury’s ready meals , occasional home cooking chicken thighs potatoes, rice steaks and chips - I didn’t track calories
i’m now eating just two meals a day a small salad for lunch ( just salad veg) and a dinner consisting of salad a meat ( say chicken breast or lean steak ) with boiled new potatoes - but this is a child’s portion
excerrsize bike at home and sit ups

I have started feeling dizzy, and the 2.5 mg dose is giving me very bad bloating and distended tummy throughout the day . I also have really bad constipation.
I’m going to try the 5 mg and actually do some calorie counting. I didn’t bother to do it because I’m eating so little . I’m probably going to buy some laxatives as well.

I actually did 6 weeks on it OP and came off - I realised the main effects of it were never really ‘my ‘ issue - I’m not a snacker, I eat well , I don’t get constant food noise, I’ve got good willpower . My problem was always too big portions in an evening, wine 3 times a week and sod all exercise. So last 4 weeks I’ve cal counted and stuck to 1100 a day in week, 1400 at weekend to allow for a bit of wine and bunged in 2 dance classes- I’ve massively increased my water intake . I realised that I literally can only eat 1400 to stand still - not lose weight (I’m 63) and low and behold I’m now still losing and exactly the same rate as I was on MJ - what def works for me is not eating till 11am and sticking to under60g of carb a day.

some people with good habits can do it without but need to be really stringent - I came off MJ as didn’t like the heartburn and a feeling of mild morning sickness. and realised the main effect of it wasn’t actually ‘my’ issue .

if you genuinely can’t lose on 1100 a day and a decent amount of excercise ( not just walking) I would be suprised if MJ would work for you either - especially if you aren’t diabetic and look as if you only have maybe a couple of stone at most to lose . The reason it works on most is that the reality is many simply will not have been eating a max of 1000 to 1250 consistently, exercising or drinking an awful lot of water.

soupyspoon · 31/05/2025 10:52

Its not going to work for everyone, people forget that simple fact. Like any medication some people wont respond to it, some people have side effects from it that they dont want to or cant tolerate

For the vast amount of people its an effect medication, serving the purpose they need it for but there will always be outliers

Give it a try at higher doses but you may need to accept its not effective for you if nothing major changes.

Do you have underlying health conditions or are from a minority ethnic background? I ask because 12 stone is not obese at 5'6"

There are a few people who do not qualify who are getting counterfeit Mounjaro - if you were in that camp the advice would be quite different.

TheMimsy · 31/05/2025 10:57

@Melonjuice are you consistently having at least 1.5 litres of liquid a day. Preferably 2.

bloating could be water retention, sudden change in diet and body just getting used to things or a reaction to how your body is processing your new diet making you bloated - for instance I started hammering lentils and beans in salads etc - made me poorly so I lowered the portion sizes to begin with and was fine.

but seriously- water:liquid intake is very important.

2.5 is a starting dose and many don’t lose on it.

5 mg was my happy place and wish I’d stayed on it longer (you don’t need to increase dose each month).

Ive lost 4 stone with it and I’m sinning to lose more without.

you really need to sort out eating habits, portion sizes etc whilst on it. Not just lose weight as once you come off and the food noise is back - what steps are you putting in place? I’ve got new exercise routines and habits I am continuing. New snack and treat ideas - keep celery etc that I like ready chopped in boxes in the fridge, apples and peanut butter available, homemade flapjacks and granola.. mini puddings in an overnight oats style etc. I cannot and will not go back to old habits. I do not want to be that size or weight again. It’s so much more work than having the jab and losing the weight.

good luck. :)
