I lost nothing in 4 weeks on first dose . Waste of money . I ate in a calorie deficit also and excersized
If the whole point of this medication is just to stop you from feeling hungry and suppress appetite rather than actually medically working to help you lose weight then it’s pointless because if I eat in a calorie deficit without it I’d lose weight anyway ?
Quite disheartening. Started at 12 stone finished at 11.13 stone. What am I doing wrong ? At this point I’m going to start eating cotton wool !

I eat no breakfast , a salad at lunch and dinner which is salad with olive oil vinegar and st dressing a meat and a veg side that’s it , no snacks . I’m also feeling quite dizzy because I’m suspecting my blood sugar is quite low so I’m a bit confused why I’m eating so little and not losing any weight. Maybe as others have said the 2.5mg is a low dose . It’s supposed to work on your hormones and weight loss is a side-effect as well as you need to eat in a calorie deficit. Maybe I just need to do a bit more reading on it.

You need to eat something for breakfast. It kick starts your metabolism and lets your body know that you're not starving so it doesn't store fat.
I was like you but without the injections (I'm too scared of needles to attempt it) I was in calorie deficit but not really losing weight; so I went to my GP he told me what I've said above so I started having a banana each day and within a week I was losing weight quicker!

Welshmonster · 01/06/2025 16:43

Who prescribed it for you? As with a starting weight of 12 stone and height 5’6 it says your BMI is 27 and you would need an additional issue to get it. Are you buying from some where reputable as you could just be injecting saline

IncessantNameChanger · 01/06/2025 16:44

I think you need to try to go up the doses. I found it really worked well at 2.5mg. I'm not loosing lots of weight but I'm going up to 7.5. Lost few days on 5mg and honestly I'd happily not eat at all. I'm on holiday si I am eating. But I was home and kids was at school I wouldn't want to eat at all.

So basically stick with it. Go up to 3.75 then if still nothing for two weeks try 5mg. I feel I have spent too much to not try and follow the guidelines to go up the doses until it works

sweetpickle2 · 01/06/2025 16:45

I suspect you're not eating enough OP. Work out your TDEE, actually count your calories, and bloody eat them.

You say MJ "doesn't work" but would you be able to eat so few calories with sheer willpower alone? I certainly wouldn't. If you would, then yeah you potentially don't need it.

As others have said, 2.5 is a therapeutic dose.

Is my maths not mathing.

Started at 12 stone finished at 11.13 stone.

Surely you've lost 12lbs?

Of course it’s just a pound.
11 stone 13 is 1lb less than 12 stone.

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 01/06/2025 16:57

Track everything!! Even your olive oil. The medication isn’t a weight loss miracle it helps increase suppression to cut out food noise and slows digestion to make you fuller for longer and to let the food break down the sugars meaning you absorb more.

Is it possible you aren’t eating enough?especially with you being dizzy.

Also are you drinking 1.5l-2L daily, more if exercising? As that helps to flush out toxins and help with weight loss. Is it possible you have gained muscle with exercising more also?

notatinydancer · 01/06/2025 16:58

@Melonjuicehow did you get it at that weight and height ?

SomethingInnocuousForNow · 01/06/2025 16:59

NHS Calculator says: 'Your BMI is 27.1
Your BMI is in the overweight category.'

How did you even get the meds? I thought even private providers stipulate you have to be obese?

Have you always been this weight as an adult?

I thought the same!

I know @JuliaLilian @notatinydancer If you read the full thread we've already discussed that. I read it as 11.13 stone, not 11 stone 13lb

I think OP means 11 st 13lb, so only a 1lb weight loss.

Ohhhhh I wasn't reading it as 11 stone 13lb.

I was reading it as 11.13 stone 😆

That's how I read it, too.

AndImBrit · 01/06/2025 17:10

soupyspoon · 31/05/2025 17:11

That is just natural fluctuations. I fluctuate hugely. On Wednesday morning I was 11 stone. Today I am 10.7lb

No reason, just up and down, up and down. Weather related probably.

You fluctuate by 7lb?! I get that people fluctuate, but I weigh myself daily and never vary by more than 2lb… eg I might be somewhere between 160 and 162 pounds, and only really consider it a loss if I start to fluctuate between say 158 and 160lbs. I’d be astounded if I lost 7lb and that wouldn’t be fluctuation for me!

That’s a pound isn’t it. 14lb in a stone. So 12 down to 11.13 is a pound.

@Idontneedanotherhero I'll let you off Grin I feel like a stuck record.

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 01/06/2025 17:28

Try not to worry, the 2.5mg dose is only to gradually introduce the drug to stop side effects. I felt the same and actually put on 3 pounds which I then lost the following 2 weeks. I only really started to lose when I got to the second two 5mg doses and then on 7.5mg and 10mg I lost 2 stone fairly quickly and without any side effects apart from being cold sometimes.

Going to be another cancel the cheque isn’t it!

I have to say OP, I find it a bit concerning that you have been on it a month and don’t seem to know the basics of how it works - I knew not to expect a loss in my first month as it doesn’t work that fast for a lot of people.

RebelliousHoping · 01/06/2025 17:30

Massive thanks to those mentioning TDEE. Just looked it up and so very interesting.

WildLeader · 01/06/2025 17:30

The lower doses 2.5, 5mg are preparing your body for the medical dose.

for some 2.5 is all they need, for others they need to go up through the doses.

you need to drink 3l of water a day and you need to build muscle. You need to eat protein and you need to eat enough

calculate your TDEE and subtract 500cals and focus on protein over carbs. Your blood sugar could be low, so 3 small meals are better than 2 bigger ones

does your prescriber offer support? Go to them for help too.

from your comments, it looks like you’ve not read too much or invested much time in understanding what you need to do as your part in this process. Take time to do that and move up a dose and keep going. This is so early in the process.

Oh and being constipated. But I am constipated at times anyway
