I lost nothing in 4 weeks on first dose . Waste of money . I ate in a calorie deficit also and excersized
If the whole point of this medication is just to stop you from feeling hungry and suppress appetite rather than actually medically working to help you lose weight then it’s pointless because if I eat in a calorie deficit without it I’d lose weight anyway ?
Quite disheartening. Started at 12 stone finished at 11.13 stone. What am I doing wrong ? At this point I’m going to start eating cotton wool !

Hello I am 5’6 was 12 before now 11.13
diet before hand was terrible ( depression combined with very inactive sit down stressful job) usually Sainsbury’s ready meals , occasional home cooking chicken thighs potatoes, rice steaks and chips - I didn’t track calories
i’m now eating just two meals a day a small salad for lunch ( just salad veg) and a dinner consisting of salad a meat ( say chicken breast or lean steak ) with boiled new potatoes - but this is a child’s portion
excerrsize bike at home and sit ups

I have started feeling dizzy, and the 2.5 mg dose is giving me very bad bloating and distended tummy throughout the day . I also have really bad constipation.
I’m going to try the 5 mg and actually do some calorie counting. I didn’t bother to do it because I’m eating so little . I’m probably going to buy some laxatives as well.

You're not eating enough. Most women will lose weight if they eat fewer than 1500 calories a day. It's a pain in the arse, but weigh it and write it down. Everything you eat and drink. Weigh yourself once a week. I lost mire than 8 stone.
In my opinion you should chuck the drugs down the loo, but they seem to have helped many people.

Exercise makes me gain weight while the muscles are sore and healing, it’s just water weight. It sounds like your diet is really healthy. I don’t weigh myself while I’m exercising, I’ll do it solid for a month at a time, then stop for a week and all the stored water whooshes off and I’m left with less fat and more muscles that I’ve been working on.

Notsuchafattynow · 01/06/2025 17:45
  1. Are you on a legitimate prescription
  2. Either way, if you were in a true calorie deficit you'd have lost weight. MJ or no MJ
  3. Exercise bike does not burn many calories, unless you go heall for leather, for 1 hour plus
  4. being constipated will hinder weight loss. Drink more water and have a big shit
  5. You can't 'eat too little'. It's a myth. See point 2.

Going to be another cancel the cheque isn’t it!

I have to say OP, I find it a bit concerning that you have been on it a month and don’t seem to know the basics of how it works - I knew not to expect a loss in my first month as it doesn’t work that fast for a lot of people.

I’m not surprised and I dint think Theres any need to berate the OP.
The support I got when I started was nil.
And Theres do much emphasis on how easy to loose whikst n MJ that it’s easy to think that you should start loosing with 2.5mg. I mean even the threads on MN are about how one has lost at that dosage.
I know I felt crap I wasn’t loosing anything at 2.5 and 5mg because of that p. 7.5mg agd I’m finally loosing weight.
But very easy to get taken over and expect something the drug can’t do.

SpunkySquid · 01/06/2025 17:46

as others have said, you really have to find the dose that works for you. I lost a little on 2.5, more on 5, then weirdly 7.5 gave me hardly any suppression at all, on my second month of 10 now and going well.

Your BMi is only just 27 so I assume you have other weight related/affected conditions in order to be eligible, do those conditions have weight gain or metabolic/hormonal symptoms?

How Mounjaro Works
Mounjaro is a dual agonist, meaning it activates two important hormone receptors:

  1. GLP-1 receptor (glucagon-like peptide-1)
  2. GIP receptor (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide)

These hormones help regulate blood sugar and appetite after eating.

1. GLP-1 Effects:
Increases insulin secretion (only when blood sugar is elevated)
Reduces glucagon secretion (which helps prevent high blood sugar)
Slows gastric emptying (helps you feel fuller longer)
Reduces appetite, promoting weight loss

2. GIP Effects:
Also enhances insulin secretion
May help counteract some of the gastrointestinal side effects of GLP-1 drugs
Plays a role in fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity

By mimicking both GLP-1 and GIP, Mounjaro helps:
Lower blood sugar levels
Reduce appetite
Promote weight loss
Improve insulin sensitivity

You can help it along by changing your diet to increase protein, fat and fibre which increases satiety and helps to prevent muscle loss. You should be mindful of carbs and try to ensure that you are choosing complex carbs and eating them with a protein or fat. This helps to reduce blood sugar spikes which can make you feel hungrier. You do need to have a good idea of how many calories you are eating, because to lose weight you need to eat less calories then you use, so some people track everything, others are comfortable approximating, personally I track because I know that if I don’t then I’ll end up over consuming and not noticing.

You can also help by introducing more exercise, strength based to build muscle which increases metabolism and things like a brisk 20 min walk after eating because it helps to break down the sugar from the meal you’ve eaten.

You also need to ensure you are well hydrated, approx 2lts liquid a day because your body uses water in the process of breaking down and removing fat, it also uses it to heal muscles that are sore after exercise, if you don’t drink enough then you will retain water and weight loss will stall. Not drinking enough will also contribute to constipation. I really cannot emphasise enough how important it is to make sure you stay hydrated.

Try magnesium glyclinate and physillium husk for the constipation. Also make sure you're taking a good multivitamin and eating at least 1250 kcals per day, drinking loads of water and getting enough protein (minimum of 1g per KG bodyweight).

I've lost almost three stone in 4 months on Mounjaro, currently on 10mg.

As an example of what I eat in a day, here's today:

Breakfast - 1 slice of wholemeal toast with 2 scrambled eggs (made with a splash of almond milk and 5g of real butter), cup of coffee with sweetener and almond milk

Lunch - chicken thighs marinated in fat free greek yoghurt, garlic and spices, cooked in the air fryer, in a pitta with salad, onions and light mayo

Dinner - mayflower chicken curry (massive 400g portion), onions, peas and mushrooms with air fryer chips (small portion)

Snacks - iced coffee made with almond milk (I use the no sugars Alpro) and 10g of coconut protein powder, Options Praline hot chocolate (made in my Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser) and a Coconut Almond protein bar.

According to Nutracheck, I'm on track to finish the day at 1356 kcals and 110 G protein. This is roughly where I'm at most days and I'm losing approximately 3lb per week on average. Crucially, it hasn't always been linear though. My weight has gone up, down dramatically and frequently stuck at the same. The overall picture is downwards, albeit (fairly) slowly.

For me the amazing thing is how effortless it's been. I'd never have been able to stick to such a deficit for any length of time without the medication. I also feel great on it - less anxious, calmer and more focused.

I thought magnesium glycinate was to help you sleep. Isn't it magnesium citrate for constipation?

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 01/06/2025 18:23

@Titasaducksarse all I know is I shit every morning if I take it before bed and not at all (for days) if I miss a dose.

Pretty sure my magnesium supplements contain both glyclinate and citrate forms though. And yes, it helps with sleep too. It's definitely improved my menopausal 3am insomnia. But that's just a bonus - it's the shitting for me.

Titasaducksarse · 01/06/2025 18:56

Fair enough 🤣

FortyElephants · 01/06/2025 19:01

CosyLemur · 01/06/2025 16:40

You need to eat something for breakfast. It kick starts your metabolism and lets your body know that you're not starving so it doesn't store fat.
I was like you but without the injections (I'm too scared of needles to attempt it) I was in calorie deficit but not really losing weight; so I went to my GP he told me what I've said above so I started having a banana each day and within a week I was losing weight quicker!

I really hope this has been picked up on already but no you don't need to eat breakfast, your metabolism doesn't need a kick start and not eating breakfast will not cause your body to retain fat or think it's starving.

MammaTo · 01/06/2025 19:08

Have you tried measuring yourself rather then weighing yourself, sometimes that’s a bit more encouraging.

Yeah I had about 3 weeks of the scales not really moving but I could see with my own eyes that I was smaller so I just waited it out and sure enough the scales started going down again.

Illberidingshotgun · 01/06/2025 19:54

Speak to your prescribing clinician, the same doses do not work for everyone. What support are you getting and who is monitoring your progress? I'm sure your dose will be upped if your progress is not what is expected. What was your clinician expecting you to lose within this time period?

Crikeyalmighty · 01/06/2025 20:04

@FortyElephants I was going to say the same thing- I eat at 11.30am and then again at around 7pm

Isobel201 · 01/06/2025 20:27

Your losses will be small to begin with, I only lost three pounds at first, but now I'm on 5mg and have lost a stone in two months.

JRM17 · 01/06/2025 20:37

Give it time. I started in Jan have done Zero exercise, have a sedentary job where is sit for 12hrs a day and I've dropped from 16.3 to 13.8. I will start exercise soon just at home (walking treadmill and sit ups). I'm on 7.5ml at the min and don't plan to ever go any higher. I do find if I eat anything too fatty or greasy I end up pooping dirty water for a few days which is not nice lol. Keep at it tho it will work.

KRG500 · 01/06/2025 21:57

It sounds like you aren’t eating enough? Could your body think it’s in starvation mode and be stopping?

aim for at least 100g protein daily and ensure you are getting fibre in your diet. Balanced diet is always key. You may find the wellness scoop helpful to listen too!

That doesn’t sound like a lot of food to me, no wonder you aren’t feeling great. And please don’t buy laxatives. Maybe you need to increase your fluid intake.

Starvation mode is a myth

MsTamborineMan · 01/06/2025 22:48

Perhaps you've got 6lbs of shit in you if your very constipated?

Mounjaro isn't a fat dissolver. It's a tool to basically help you stick to a calorie deficit.

A couple of things, firstly measurements not just weight. And also photos. Weigh yourself at the same time and I weigh daily and track, you can then follow the overall trend. My weight can fluctuate a fair amount. I tend to retain a lot if water if I've excercised heavily, drank alcohol or am on my period.

Actually properly track your calories. And make sure your eating a sensible diet. A salad of plain veg is obviously going to make you feel lightheaded, add in a source of protein and a source of healthy fat. Make sure your child's portion is actually a child's portion

Also most people who report big losses on mounjaro will weigh more than you. Your BMI is only just 27 and most people will have BMIs of 30+. The heavier you are the higher your maintenance and so the more you can lose

MsTamborineMan · 01/06/2025 22:48

I'm going to assume you got it legitimately

I’m assuming not

as no other replies

people think it’s a magic tool and weight just comes off and don’t research it

you need to put some hard work in. To eat less /watch what you eat /count calories /ideally exercise/drink 2l of wate A day +

it helps you to try and lose weight but equally you have to help your self

I read so many similar threads to this. They pop up almost every day

JayJayj · 02/06/2025 06:58

In 3 weeks I’ve lost just under 1st. Started at 12st 2lb now 11st 4lb. I’ve done some exercising but not loads as it made me feel so exhausted and I’ve had no energy. I’ve definitely not been hungry or had any cravings. I’ve struggled to eat much at all. Perhaps you do need the higher dose for you.
