I started beginning of May and have just moved up a pen to 5 so hoping for more slow and steady.

I lost 11lbs in the first month but have bought some new scales as the old ones just are not reliable. Pharmacy weight is much lower than home scales which is actually a blessing.

Gingercar · 03/06/2025 10:56

I’m intrigued as to what the coffee making exercises are. I own a little coffee shop and make a lot! Would I impress my customers if I did them?😃

End of the second week for me, and a 3lb loss, which I’m pleased with. I haven’t got a goal. I’ve enough big numbers already with my weight.

NewbieMJ · 03/06/2025 11:00

Morning all, thank you @MooBaggage for the new thread

@MabelSpan well done. I am not far behind you - lost 4 and a half stone (started September). Desperate to get to 5 stone. Must feel amazing!

@SilenceInside You are doing brilliantly and a complete inspiration. Thank you.

I have, predictably, plateaued - I deserve no less for getting carried away staying the same after my 3 week holiday and the scales having a whoosh time to themselves after. I am not phased as I have continued on track, so it'll just be water weight and my body recalibrating.

Ordered a soft tape measure to get going with measurements. Likewise @MooBaggage - wish I had taken measurements at the start, but will start from now.

Down from a 22/24 to a comfortable 18 which I am thrilled with.

@InfoSecInTheCity that peanut butter is the bomb! Thank you.

Welcome newbies - we were all newbies and look how far so many on this thread have come? Keep reading everyone's updates as it is gives the very best motivation. Moo's list is very good. I have had no side effects at all, but I am not a super-responder either, but MJ definitely gives me the edge to keep a sustained and healthy weight loss, albeit slower than most. Unlike my previous attempts my single biggest motivator is seeing my efforts actually work -- the scales go down and I am clearly losing a lot of body fat, which inspires me to keep on track.

On we go lovely losers.

SW: 163 lbs (18 stone 11)
CW: 200 lbs (14 stone 4)

Gingercar · 03/06/2025 11:04

I took my measurements two weeks ago at the start and was so mortified I hid them in a safe place - now can’t remember where!!

@InfoSecInTheCity was starting what I think they call 'habit stacking' - which I tried years ago and completely failed at, but am trying again!

So when you do something often during each day (so e.g. coffee making - or going to the loo) you build in a good habit, like an exercise you can do in that 2 mins while you're making a coffee/washing your hands/brushing teeth.

My problem is that I kept forgetting, so never actually stacked the habit 😆 But now I've moved my hand weights into the kitchen near the kettle, there is no excuse..!

I think your coffee customers would love to see a bit of marching whilst holding hand weights above your head - go for it! 😀

I hear you - I started measuring at about week 8 of MJ and 2 of my numbers started with a 5.... take the shame! Will measure again at the end of June - am hoping all numbers start with a 4 at that point.... 🙄

Checking in 👋 thanks for the new thread op.
Sorry, I seem to have missed a whole thread! I cant keep up.

Officially weigh in day tomorrow, but I'm skipping it this week. DD went to a gig and caught a virus, which has now passed on to me. I have gig-flu, without the gig 😂
I've been eating rubbish with zero excercise for 4 days so I know I've gained.
Frosty 0-1 Cake 🙄

Back on it next week.

MabelSpan · 03/06/2025 11:18

@NewbieMJ Thank you! The 5st marker was the big one for me, I really hope you get there soon!
I have only now just started to feel like I am actually getting smaller and I think that as I only, (haha only!) have 3st 9lbs to lose the changes will become greater sooner. Fingers crossed for that!

NewbieMJ · 03/06/2025 11:22

@MabelSpan Same here! 5 stone is an amazing milestone.

Yes, changes will be so much more noticeable going forward. That in itself feels such a win.

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/06/2025 11:39

Coffee incentivising is working, I started with the rule to do squats whenever I made coffee, but turns out I drink too much coffee and my thighs couldn’t cope, so like @MooBaggagei put a set of hand weights in the kitchen. Now I alternate and do squats one time and arm exercises the next. Not noticed a difference but only been doing it a week or so and it’s got to be better than not doing it.

Arglefraster · 03/06/2025 11:41

Moo BJ Fogg (wrote Tiny Habits & did most of the research - at Stanford- that Atomic Habits is based on) says humans need a positive emotion to cement a habit so his habit recipe is

After I xxxx
I will yyy
and celebrate by doing zz

So for you
after I switch the kettle on (to make a coffee)
I will do one bicep curl (habit must be the smallest possible & you celebrate the 1 curl exactly the same as the day you do 200! )
and celebrate by saying "yay me" / giving myself a high five/ smiling & saying "I did it"

The celebration bit feels really weird but it works!

Arglefraster · 03/06/2025 11:42

Love that you're keep score frosty 🤣 hope the gig flu passes quickly 💐

MooBaggage · 03/06/2025 11:54

@Arglefraster Thanks - will do some reading!

I'm renting a flat at the moment and my kitchen window is directly opposite someone else's kitchen window - quite what they're going to think of me stamping around the kitchen with my arms above my head I don't know - I was so self conscious this morning I did them in the hall while the coffee was doing its thing😃

I just asked Dh how to do a squat and he didnt know. Is it like sitting on an invisible chair? I wasn’t that keen but then he reminded me that I’m 65 with a replacement hip, and now I’m raring to go!

HumBumBum · 03/06/2025 13:08

Hello, you are JUST the thread I’ve been looking for!! I’ve been on MJ since September and have just got to a 5 stone loss with at least another 2 stone to go (maybe more, will see).

Maybe this was discussed on an earlier thread but has anyone worked out what size they’ll be eventually? I’m really wanting to buy some nice new clothes (have been relying on Vinted) but I’m in uncharted territory now - I don’t think I’ve had a BMI of less than 29 ever as an adult.

MooBaggage · 03/06/2025 13:27

Hello @HumBumBum 🙂 I was thinking about sizes yesterday - at the moment I'm all giddy because I'm venturing into a size 18 on the bottom half - am wearing size 18 knickers and am waiting for my first pair of size 18 jeans to arrive from Vinted! I started on MJ in January and was a size 24 on the bottom, so am really chuffed I've made it down to an 18 so far. I can't imagine being any smaller than a size 14 - which I probably last was in my very early 20's?

Top half - I'm still a size 20 - 22 and have a real mental block about ever being smaller, as my boobs are just so bloody big. I hope I do reduce a bit - a size 16/18 would be amazing.

If I get down to my goal weight (predicted August 2026!) presumably I'd be a size 12 - but that's not been anything I've seen as an adult, so it's just not in my brain to imagine it at the moment...

OP posts:
HumBumBum · 03/06/2025 14:04

That’s the weird thing @MooBaggageive been comfortably wearing size 12 (top) and 14 (bottoms) for a while, I definitely need smaller knickers but don’t want to keep buying every size (and can’t get my head around Vinted knickers!), can’t quite believe I’m contemplating a size 10 when my BMI is still Overweight. What size do BMI 25’s wear if they’re average height?

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/06/2025 14:10

Basically yes. Idea is to bend your knees and push your butt back so it’s like sitting down, squeeze your glutes (the guy in the video I watched on YouTube said imagine your trying to hold something with your butt cheeks) then stand back up and repeat lots of times. Watch a couple of videos to get the form right. It’s an easy exercise but one that sneaks up on you, all of a sudden you start to really feel the muscles in your thighs and ass.

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/06/2025 14:13

@HumBumBum I sized up with my age so at 12 I was wearing size 12, by 16 wearing size 16 etc. The other day I tried on and successfully did up a pair of size 10 jeans!!!!!

Im 5ft 8 and currently 148lbs which is BMI 23, started at 218lbs and size 22/24 but all stretchy jersey stuff so could have been bigger in reality.

SilenceInside · 03/06/2025 14:14

Clothes sizes vary so much by shop, and people's shapes are so different that it must be very varied. I am pear to hourglass shaped, tending more to hourglass as I get smaller, and once a long time ago when I was young I was briefly a size 10 to 12 ish. I think I might be back to that when I get to my final target.

I am wearing size 16 stuff at the moment, but my knickers are the size 18s I bought fairly recently when I had to admit that my size 20 ones were falling down. I think I may need to get some more soon, but I'll wear the 18s until they too are struggling to cling on!

HumBumBum · 03/06/2025 14:18

Oh to be 10 years old @InfoSecInTheCity!!

Ok that’s helpful, I might go and pull the packets open in M+S to see how big size 10 knickers are.

Dysmorphia · 03/06/2025 14:20

Hi all, hoping I can join in too!

I've lost 4st 10lb so far and need to lose another 4st at least. Probably more like 4st 7lb but I'll see how I feel once I get to a normal BMI.

I started out wearing sizes 20-24. It was like nothing was happening with my body despite the scales saying different and then all of a sudden I'm wearing size 14-16. Like @MooBaggage I can't imagine myself wearing a size 12 (or smaller!?) but it's going to happen. That's kind of exciting but also scary.

I have only bought 1 outfit in size 14. I'm actually still wearing my size 20 clothes which is ridiculous I know but I think deep down I believe I'll just put all the weight back on so what's the point? Even though I'm doing my absolute best to change mentally as well as physically.
Maybe something will just click eventually and I'll start believing in myself.

They look remarkably small! My brain hasn’t caught up with my body yet, so I hold up a size 12 T-shirt and scoff thinking there’s no chance, the size 10 jeans looked like they would fit an infant.

im at a convention today and they’re giving away t-shirts left right and centre, I keep asking for large but pretty sure they’re going to swamp me now. I figure they’ll be good for nighties and hot sweaty summer days.
