Thread EIGHT - blimey we talk a lot! 😄 Anyone using weight loss injections to lose more than 5st/30lbs is very welcome, no matter what stage of the process you are no.

We're high on protein, low on carbs, upping the water and getting the fibre in any which way we can!

Yes I do use the wipe provided to clean pen and then me.

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/06/2025 17:21

@Reginaphalangeeeee - @RobinEllacotStrike is absolutely right that alcohol would dry out the area but it has, recently, been shown that patients who use alcohol swabs pre-injection are more likely to get a skin reaction to the swab than to the injection itself. That would be localised rather than widespread so may be irrelevant but just worth a thought.

I wonder if the reaction could be anything to do with temperature? If your skin may have been warmer after your shower which may have affected absorption somehow? I know we used to advise women not to apply HRT after a shower or bath until skin had both dried and cooled because it affected the rate of absorption

Reginaphalangeeeee · 26/06/2025 18:03

That's really interesting @QueenOfHiraeth

My friend who got a reaction, also used wipes. She normally injects others for a job so couldn't bring herself not to do the same for herself.

On closer inspection I think I may have gone into a stretch mark. Now I have lots and have for a long time. They are old from
Pregnancy and pale… however, with 4 stone weight loss they are closer together. I normally try to avoid but is getting harder to.

Do other notice issue with old stretch marks as they are shrinking tummies? Could injecting into a stretch mark be the issue?

nailslikeknives · 26/06/2025 18:26

Evening all, I’ve been over on June 2025 starters and I’m looking forward to hearing more from those with a similar amount to me to lose.

I started a few weeks ago, so here’s my stats, I’m on W3D5
SW 18.5.6
CW 16.12.4
GW who knows, 11 stone would be amazing but I’ll take each 1/2 stone as a win right now!

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/06/2025 18:54

@Reginaphalangeeeee I think the updated NHS guidance is to only use alcohol swabs for IV injections (although I'm not 100% sure even of that, do we have any nurses here who would know?) but they are not needed for subcutaneous as there is very little risk of infection. If the skin needs cleaning pre-injection the Green Book recommends just soap and water.
As for stretch marks, I would guess there's a risk of discomfort and poor absorption as they are scar tissue which is more dense and fibrous than other skin but don't know how they would influence any reaction risk

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/06/2025 19:23

I’ve never used alcohol wipes because when the nurse gave me a demo on how to do the shot (and when she showed me how to do an insulin shot) she didn’t tell me to, never had any problem. I also am fairly certain I’ve injected a stretch mark before because it would take some major precision to avoid one and I am not known for precision 😂 I am the proverbial blunt tool.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 26/06/2025 21:34

Hello to everyone new on the thread. There’s loads of great advice and inspiration shared - I know it’s been incredibly helpful to me so far.

Am very happy to have reached my 17kg milestone today. Have also realised I’d been putting in the wrong height to the BMI calculator - I blame my meno brain.

SW: 119.3kg / 43.8 BMI
CW: 102.3kg / 37.6 BMI
Total lost: 17kg in 16 weeks, one week 2.5mg and 5mg since.

I have my next 5mg pen ready to go, but this week have had my first issue since I started with wanting to eat for the sake of it and seeking out sugary food. I’ve been a bit lax with meal planning with the heat, so am hoping it’s just that. If it continues though, I might consider going up to 6.25mg as a step towards 7.5mg. Has anyone else done that and found it worked?

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/06/2025 21:49

@ANutAsBigAsABoulder I do find that if I don’t have a plan for my food then I end up leaning 8n to whatever the easiest option is near my fingertips which can be dangerous. With the heat I’ve been making up a big tub of salad, literally shred up a whole lettuce then just add whatever else I have in the bottom of the fridge or some peas/sweetcorn from the freezer, pickled beetroot or jalepenos. It’s never anything complicated or that requires much effort. Having that in the fridge means I just fill a bowl with that if I get the urge to eat or can’t be bothered to think of a real meal.

Other things I try to keep in stock:

  • boiled eggs or wafer thin chicken - great for adding to salad, or on top of rice cakes or ryvita
  • beef jerky/biltong. A pack of this is less than 100 cals, I get the spicy ones as like strong flavours and it’s filling enough to kill off any snacking needs
  • greek yoghurt and/or longley farms full fat cottage cheese. I only buy the full fat versions of both of these as the low fat ones are just no where near as nice.
  • pickled onions. Barely any cals and if you just have an urge to eat without the actual hunger then a couple of these kick that urge due to the strength of flavours.

@InfoSecInTheCity Your "blunt tool" comment just made me laugh. I'm still pee'd off that MN took the laugh emoji away for comments like that

Amarajean · 27/06/2025 00:49

Evening, just checking in!
Sw-121kg
Cw-99kg
Gw-65kg
Still got a fair amount to lose but I'm in double figures so I'm happy, for now.
Was in Tesco and my leggings are really big so as I'm pushing the trolley they start to fall down, just as I was about to pull them up I dropped my purse,as I bent down to quickly pick it up my leggings ended up around my thighs with my arse hanging out!! Don't know if anyone saw me as I swiftly pulled them up and scarped! I was mortified!!

Suffice to say I'm not wearing those leggings again, must go clothes shopping.
Well done to all the losers and to those not losing ,don't worry it will happen!😆

Slowrunning · 27/06/2025 06:32

I did a similar thing at work @Amarajean My work trousers were so loose that I managed to step on one trouser leg and pull them down whilst walking 😂. Needless to say I was straight on Vinted to get some smaller ones.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/06/2025 07:03

Well done @Amarajean that is an incredible loss. I will be ecstatic when I get under 100kg.
Still a long way to go for me (probably 2 months to loose 8kg), but seems reachable by September. Seemed impossible at the start of the year starting at 136kg!

I like seeing when others hit a milestone I am also aiming for…it spurs me on a lot!

Thanks @InfoSecInTheCity
I sill struggle to avoid the stretch marks now they are closer together. There are less around my belly button but think have to avoid immediately around there, guess something to do with blood vessels there. Don't want to move to legs or arms as response is generally comfortable and predictable now.

Seen a red local reactionnlisted as a side effect though I don't hear many talk about it?

My local Morrison's has seemingly discontinued the full-fat Longley Farm and only ever has the fat-free these days. I am in mourning.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 27/06/2025 07:57

Thanks @InfoSecInTheCity, definitely need a food reset and some great ideas there. Not sure about the pickled onions - might go for gherkins though 😀

@Amarajean amazing weight loss and getting below 100kg - fab milestone. Vinted is now my go to place for replacement clothes, as I’m hoping to keep going down the sizes. I do wonder if WLI are keeping Vinted booming!

Crikeyalmighty · 27/06/2025 09:56

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping Poundland is your friend-they do the chives version too which I love

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 27/06/2025 10:23

I’m also trying to avoid ‘fat free’ versions of foods. Reminds me too much of previous Slimming World attempts and being utterly miserable. Good fats are important.

Got myself into gear enough to make carrot cake overnight oats in my slow cooker. Can recommend Bored of Lunch for his calorie counted meals that are really easy to make: https://www.irishnews.com/life/food-drink/nathan-anthonys-slow-cooker-carrot-cake-overnight-oats-ZF72V3EMQVMFRC4UXH7EL3S3WY/

Totally agree about avoinding "diet" and "low fat" foods.

I've been eating either full fat 10% or 5% fat Greek yoghurt, but I accidentlly picked up some 0% fat Greek yoghurt last shop - it really is an entirely different food. I won't buy it again.

I think my fav is the 5% FAGE Greek yoghurt.

Gingercar · 27/06/2025 12:12

Another vote for not having diet foods. I’m basically eating “real food” - just healthy, natural food. I read something once that said the diet food is often full of sugars or sweeteners that keep the brain craving sugar. Plus the full fat version tastes nicer and it doesn’t feel difficult sticking to this eating plan. And it’s worked for me so far. I feel like if I’m changing my eating habits it’s better if I enjoy it!

RobinEllacotStrike · 27/06/2025 12:25

I had this though last night "I don't eat sugar anymore" and then I was like - is this actually true? And it pretty much is.

I have sugars in fruit, and lactose etc in dairy. But as far as added processed sugar goes, it's not a feature of my diet anymore. I last had a gelato ice cream end of May and I think that was the last time I ate a sugar sweetened food.

I didn't make an active decision to not eat sugar, but its a consequence of eating a wholefood/Mediterranean diet with no processed carbs and minimal UPF, plus MJ to keep cravings/food noise at bay.

OnwardsDownwards · 27/06/2025 14:11

I don’t think I need to describe my current side effect if I show you what I just purchased 😁. Hope these sort things!

I still haven’t found the full fat cottage cheese. Will have to try a bigger supermarket this weekend.

I can't kick my half spoon sugar habit in coffee. I think it's some kind of sweetner, but is the closest thing to sugar I've tried and I have 1 x spoon of it in coffee. Every now and then I try to reduce it, but just end up being miserable - and coffee is now pretty much my only vice.... 😇😃

NSV today!

I took ds2 out for lunch today and the only way back to the car park was up a HUGE flight of steps - probably about 50 steps in total, broken up into 5 x lots of 10 or so.

Honestly, pre-January me would not have been able to do them without a lot of effort and at least one stop to catch my breath.

Ds2 is 6'4" and a skinny fit thing and of course bounds up them, but I at least managed to walk up them, whilst talking to him and I didn't stop! I most definitely didn't 'bound' and he slowed down to my pace, but I got to the top, still able to talk, not wheezing and wanting to die - hurrah!!

@RobinEllacotStrike i wish i could kick my sweet treats and upf foods habit! Even just the snacks!!

i can’t kick the diet coke, and am not particularly bothered by it, but would love to be more discerning around sweet stuff in the evening, the syrup in my coffee, and crisps!!!

i need to adopt your diet for sure!! I’m obviously a million times better on MJ, but urghhh. Fruit or yoghurt etc as an alternative doesnt do it for me!!

I use Pure Via Demerara in my coffee and it’s brilliant, can’t tell it’s a sweetener.
