Thread EIGHT - blimey we talk a lot! 😄 Anyone using weight loss injections to lose more than 5st/30lbs is very welcome, no matter what stage of the process you are no.

Hi guys I’ve just joined MN. Looking for any advice please. I started on the 6th May currently on 5ml. Can i ask what you eat as most things I have fly through me. So im not eating great out of fear lol 🥴 so weight loss is slow. I’m on 5ml and thinking I’ll just stay on this dose. Thank you 🌺

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 21/06/2025 08:15

I know it will all balance out in the end, but I can’t help but feel a little annoyed that I have been in significant calorie deficit this week, been swimming twice and over 10000 steps each day and I haven’t lost anything. I’m just a bit miffed but it’s not deterring me. I’m off for a brisk walk with my weighted vest before it gets too hot.

alltablenochair · 21/06/2025 08:32

I said last week I wasn't sure the 12.5 was effective for me anymore so I was going to do one last pen so I had some data (I ran over my phone and lost everything) so I could see any trends. So far in a week I have lost 0.8kg. Hopefully this continues as I don't want to increase it if it's still working. So far in 8 and a half months I have lost 30.8kg. I started with a BMI of 45. Today it's 34.5.

For those that have been here a while they may remember I brought an absolute killer of a dress from Ebay with the intention of wearing it for a family wedding. Well the dress is still too small for me and doesn't quite fit. However the reserve killer dress I had in mind is now too big and hangs like a sack on me. Time to recruit my bestie (who is the only person apart from my husband who knows about the MJ) to go shopping for a new killer dress.

Hope you all aren't melting in this heat like I am. My moan for the week- why are wheelchairs always black!

Nowanana. Could it be that 5 is too much for you and you need to reduce and/or slowly raise the dose?

In terms of food I eat normally, with a focus on seriously increasing the fibre and fluids in my food. Although I wouldn't call myself a vegetarian as such I don't eat meat or eggs- I was eating fish last night.

It will be interesting to see if this is borne out across others’ experiences but the scales are showing a gain for me this week, which I know is incorrect and doesn’t tally with the fat and muscle readings my scales have taken. I’m sure it’s the effect of the very hot weather.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 21/06/2025 10:56

@lifetheuniverseandeverything42 I bet you are due a woosh. Plus I'd expect you've got some lean muscle going on from all that exercise and some fat loss.

I'm 20lbs down now and down a bra size. Got a busy day ahead and I just want to sit in an air conditioned room!
Hope you guys have a good day.

Quick question: I had to travel today by train for 5 hours and had a new MJ pen in my suitcase. It was wrapped in bubble wrap in a cool bag with a couple of small freezer pads in. When I got here and unpacked it, the two pads had melted almost completely and the pen wasn't cold to the touch. I'm not sure if I should be worried? It's in the fridge now. I'm hoping it will be okay as I can't imagine it got all that hot inside the cool bag. On the other hand, it definitely wasn't icy cold as it is when they are packed and posted. Thoughts? Should I chuck it?

Found this from Eli Lilly this week. It's for HCP to use for temperature excursions. Might put your might at rest, I'm sure the pen will be fine.

I wouldn't move up until the dose you are on has settled. Weeks of not being able to eat isn't healthy or sustainable.

Are you avoiding common trigger foods? Fatty, sugar or artificial sweeteners, spicy, fizzy drinks, perhaps coffee. Otherwise I just eat normal food, lots of protein (steak, chicken, prawns, fish etc) and veg/salad and with reduced carbs (small baked potato/sweet potato, pita bread etc)

I would be tempted to go down a dose (using current 5mg pen) until your symptoms settle - either back to 2.5mg (30 clicks) or somewhere in between 3.75mg (45 clicks) for a couple of weeks to give time to let levels drop and see how it goes from there.

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 21/06/2025 11:46

@VelociraptorsVelociRappingi think you may have a point about the heat. My hands are definitely swelling in the heat as my rings are harder to take off than usual.

alwaysscared · 21/06/2025 12:49

Update on the Fu:Di granola. It’s nice, not too sweet at all, not artificial tasting like I find the Surreal to be. Adds a nice crunch to my yoghurt and berries. Small pack for £7.99 though!

NowANanaxx · 21/06/2025 13:12

@WeAllHaveWings
Thank you for some great advice. I hope this how I reply I’ve never used this site before 🥴 I’ve been reading lots of threads on here and feel so much better, my symptoms are very similar and I’m not too bothered about the slow weight loss. I hadn’t actually realised I could stay on the same dose I thought that you had to move up every 4 weeks. Lesson learnt 😁🤦🏼‍♀️

EternalFatalist · 21/06/2025 16:09

For all of us who have gained weight or sts this week, it's definitely weather related. I woke up this morning and my fingers and ankles were already swollen from the heat. It's even worse now, nine hours later, after lots of walking and water guzzling. I suspect that when the temps drop back into the low 20s, there will be many whooshes. 🥵

InfoSecInTheCity · 21/06/2025 16:29

Can but hope @EternalFatalist I’m in the run up to my period too this week so just watching the scales flutter up and down each day, my weight chart looks like an ECG

Its really warm here but a lovely breeze today so chilling out in the gazebo enjoying it waft over me and occasionally up my shorts leg 😂

I asked Google if hot weather can cause weight gain:

Hot weather can lead to temporary weight gain due to increased water retention, not actual fat gain. This is caused by the body's natural response to heat, where it holds onto more fluids to regulate temperature. This can manifest as swelling, especially in the ankles and feet, and may result in a few extra pounds on the scale.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

  • Water Retention:
  • Hot weather causes the body to release hormones like aldosterone, which signal the kidneys to retain more sodium and water. This helps the body cool down, but it can also lead to a temporary increase in body weight due to fluid accumulation.
  • Swelling:
  • The increased fluid retention can cause swelling, particularly in the extremities like ankles and feet, as the body struggles to remove excess fluid from the tissues.
  • Hormonal Influence:
  • Women may experience more noticeable water retention during the summer months due to hormonal fluctuations related to the menstrual cycle, which can further exacerbate the effect of hot weather.
  • Not Fat Gain:
  • It's important to remember that this is not fat gain. The extra weight is due to water retention, not an increase in body fat.
  • Reversibility:
  • Once the weather cools down or the body adapts to the heat, the excess water will be eliminated, and the weight will return to normal.
Tips to manage water retention in hot weather:
  • Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water can actually help your body regulate fluid balance more effectively.
  • Reduce sodium intake: High sodium intake can contribute to water retention, so try to limit salty foods and snacks.
  • Elevate your legs: Elevating your legs can help reduce swelling in the ankles and feet.
  • Engage in physical activity: Exercise can help improve circulation and reduce fluid retention.
  • Consider compression garments: Compression socks or stockings can help improve circulation and reduce swelling.

Weigh in day for me and I’m up 1.8lbs which is fair enough as I have been attempting to eat my way out of terrible constipation this week.
Relief, when it came, was down to yesterday’s motorway service station KFC 🤦‍♀️
I have started on the psyllium husk today, which will hopefully prevent a recurrence.

I am not feeling great at the mo with feeling faint and some palpitations. It sort of feels like I’m not eating enough, but calories-wise I am, I’m not losing tons of weight and I’m eating the same stuff to the same old pattern. Might be a bug, might be a thyroid thing, or might be that my MJ dose or way of eating doesn’t suit me now at a lower weight. I have never been this weight so wouldn’t know.

So I am thinking I might start eating breakfast again after many years without, maybe 18hrs fast is too long. And I’m also contemplating reducing the MJ dose, I have been on 10mg since November. I did briefly go up to 12.5mg and then 15mg but didn’t feel right so came back down and stayed on 10mg.

I also want to start figuring out what and when to eat based on how I feel, rather than sticking to a plan and counting calories and weighing every day. I would love to learn to eat when I’m hungry and just enough to keep me going without putting on weight or losing. So I plan to experiment a bit with that for a few weeks and see how it goes. If I need to count calories and weigh myself (and maybe take MJ) for the rest of my life, fair enough, and maybe my metabolism is too wrecked to be put in charge. But I think it’s worth a go. I was hoping to lose another stone but if I end up staying where I am, just into healthy BMI, that’s great. I will be more focused on fitness than weight loss over the next few weeks too.

Darlinghag · 22/06/2025 12:44

Morning folks!

Weigh day for me, and I’ve lost .6lbs. Less than I would like but it is the week of my period and the heat etc, and I’ve done the right stuff so it will come eventually! This takes me to 13st 11.5lbs.

It’s still crazy to me that I am in the 13s!!

If anyone wants a lower calorie burger, both Marks and Lidl do great low calorie beef burgers. Lidl do a nice brioche roll for around 150 cals too! I’ve had a couple this week 🤣

Zebracat · 22/06/2025 12:52

@gimmemounjaro sounds like a plan. I think it’s what we will all have to d, f we don’t want the fat back.. I’m disappointed today because I’ve tried hard to drink plenty and eat enough after getting an attack of gout last month. But I have it again. I think its not drinking. I’m going to start logging water, with a target of 3 litres. I’m also going to try more carbs. I really can’t be having gout every month. It sucks!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/06/2025 13:21

My weight has been bouncing around the same spot for a couple of weeks so I’ve bumped my dose up to 8ish from 7.5. Boy do I know about it. I see Pepto Bismol in my future!!
I have finally lost a little bit this week.

I know it’s probably a combination of heat and medication. I’ve had tendinitis so have been using codeine as I can’t take oral NSAIDS. I’ve used ibuprofen gel but even that starts to cause gastric issues after a while. I think the combination just messed up my digestion for a bit. I am off the painkillers now thanks to a very effective physio so hopefully normal service will be resumed shortly.

WeAllHaveWings · 22/06/2025 13:36

@gimmemounjaro over the last couple of months I have been feeling tired/bit faint/off balance and been trying a few things to try to sort it out.

Getting better sleep (magnesium complex for both sleep and constipation, sleep music etc has really helped)

Right balance of HRT (think this is ok now and not the cause of the issue)

Convinced Dr to do iron/B12/ferritin/Vit D etc blood tests which, along with some symptoms and history of long term PPI (omeprazole) use, showed signs of low B12/deficincy/larger than normal blood cells (now injecting B12 at home as Dr not interested and will get full bloods redone privately in a couple of months)

Continued monitoring blood pressure at home, I've gone from medicated high blood pressure 140/90, to stopping meds a couple of months ago and blood pressure now sometimes quite low, this morning it was 93/61! I am now allowing myself more salt to help!

Introducing a little more carbs (think they are sometimes too low and now have some carbs with every meal)

Breaking fast sooner to keep blood sugar stable - similar to you I was skipping breakfast, for me that meant I was sometimes not eating from 6pm until 12-1pm which I think was too long

I was considering trying a Libra blood sugar monitor, just for a week or so, for some insight to blood sugars to see if they tied in with when I felt a bit wobbly, but that is on the back burner for now - will perhaps do after I have cut back on B12 loading injections and done the private blood test

My gut tells me it is not Mounjaro directly that is causing it but the stress and changes to my system/body brought about by significant weight loss that needs a bit of TLC to sort out.

gimmemounjaro · 22/06/2025 14:11

Thank you so much for posting @WeAllHaveWings that is really interesting and we sound pretty similar apart from HRT.

I am also a long term Omeprazole user and had no idea it could affect mg and B12 levels. I will get those checked asap. Maybe iron and vitamin D too. It’s hopeless trying to get to see a GP here but I can test privately. My diet is really good so it hadn’t occurred to me that I might be deficient in something - of course I could be though and the omeprazole could easily be the culprit.

I have a blood pressure monitor I think (or DH does anyway) but never use it, perhaps I should. I have instinctively been eating salted peanuts when it’s really bad and they seem to help. I have always had a bit of postural hypotension but it’s particularly annoying at the moment.

I do eat a fair amount of carbs but only really fruit and veg, no bread, pasta or rice. I thought the same about increasing them slightly, planning to have sourdough toast with various toppings for my new breakfast regime.

I’m the same re fasting - 1800-1230 would be a usual day but lately I’ve been having lunch a bit earlier when I’ve felt like I might keel over. Not sure how I am managing to starve myself to the point of faintness without losing weight but I guess it’s as you say, I just need time to adjust and gently experiment while things settle down.

Thanks again, I have booked a B12 test and feel a lot more optimistic now!

MooBaggage · 22/06/2025 14:26

Well I'm officially back on plan, after a lovely 8 days of more food, Pimms and sleeping like a baby!

Will weigh tomorrow and am feeling like I've put a couple of lbs on - but am already switched to 'good' today, so feeling OK and ready to lose a few more lbs before my next holiday in 3 weeks' time 😮😬
