Thought I'd kick start a new thread for this oh so supportive little group, as the last thread was reaching it's limit.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne congrats! What was their rationale for declining you previously? As surely having the surgery will help with the weight loss, isnt that the whole point? Is there a limit on how heavy you can be? I ask this while watching my 600lb life… where they’re getting surgery!

It is surgery for a hiatus hernia, not for weight loss.
The surgeon in the past said that my BMI was too high and she told me to lose 10 stone (!)

I don't think she thought I'd succeed tbh. Neither did I, till MJ came along.

So I'm on the way to losing 10st. By the time I see the surgeon again, I'll have got there.

Victory!
Five years ago I was refused gastric surgery because of my weight.

Today I saw my GP and he's referred me again, because I'm 7 stone down.

I don't mean weight loss surgery.

I mean surgery for a hiatus hernia.

I have a NSV today.

I’m wearing a skirt I made 10 years ago, when I was about 1.5 stone lighter than I am now.

This feels like a real win! For this skirt and all the other clothes I made which will soon be back in regular rotation!

I’ve had a busy 3 days, check the thread and there’s over 65 new posts! Had to make a coffee and settle in for a good ole catch up.
I took part in a music festival this weekend and it felt wonderful, I didn’t worry at all that anyone was staring at me gobsmacked about my size, it felt so freeing to just concentrate on what I was performing and not worry about what people were thinking. I’m definitely a changed/new person. Went into the office and saw a couple of colleagues I hadn’t seen since before Christmas and one stopped in their tracks when they saw me, another, who I saw last week did say to me that he noticed but didn’t like to comment, I said I encourage it 😂
oh and my necklace appears to have got a lot longer! I assume it’s my neck that has shrunk. I’m on a bit of a high today…

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/05/2025 18:04

@Weightlossprincess I weigh daily in the morning but only record my ‘official’ weight on a Tuesday, it does help to see the patterns. I didn’t the first week though, but have done ever since.

@AlicesMum2025 i’ve never had an issue with fizzy drinks (going off of Pepsi max doesn’t count) I drink 2 to 3 litres of fizzy water a day with a dash of sugar free french vanilla syrup - tastes just like cream soda and I can adjust the sweetness.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden, you could still extract the extra and you’d end up with a couple of pens at the end of your Shemed subscription. I still order every four weeks using my supplier and have a couple of pens as back-up now which I find quite comforting almost knowing that if there is a shortage or a problem I currently have two months supply. I’m just over halfway on the obese range of the stupid BMI chart but I feel amazing, my thoughts about the daunting journey have completely changed, I really hope that yours do too ❤️ and your husband will love you at any shape or size so tell that voice to quietly go away x

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/05/2025 18:11

@Millie90 I think that your opening line “why would you not want to think about what you are eating if you are unhappy with your weight” speaks volumes. Your ignorance is astounding and frankly insulting and I very much doubt that any of us here give two hoots about your concern for our long term health whilst injecting a very well researched and authorised ‘god knows what’. I completely understand what @peppercornrent is saying and 100% agree/support their comment.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/05/2025 18:23

@AlicesMum2025 plate sizes and portion sizes completely threw me at the beginning as it’s such a learning curve, took me about a month or so to remind myself (or even realise) to have small portions and if I want to have more as I’m still hungry I can dish up seconds, it never happens though! Also, I was cooking enough for 4 adults rather than the 2 that are needed, I’ve finally got that right too.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden trauma definitely goes hand in hand with weight gain, I had a lot of childhood trauma and piled on weight. Seven years ago I had sepsis and very nearly didn’t come home from the hospital, I gained an extra few stone following that, we all carry trauma from obesity and grieve the person we deserve to be, another sending hugs your way x

Bibulous · 12/05/2025 21:11

I've got the ok from the pharmacy and my GP that I can keep taking MJ despite the hyperthyroidism that started a couple of weeks ago. I'm super relieved!

TragicMuse · 12/05/2025 22:31

That’s a relief @Bibulous! I have thyroid matters going on and got prescribed so I’m glad you’re ok too!

AnotherDayanotherNameChangeX · 12/05/2025 22:35

Can I join please? My starting weight was 24 stone 7, I’m on 15mg now and down to 20 stone 7 so far. Not sure what my goal is yet, just want to get the first goal of 100lbs out the way!

PinkArt · 12/05/2025 23:34

Welcome @AnotherDayanotherNameChangeX! Why not set yourself a first goal of 19st 7? Then you can have a double 5 stone/ into the teens celebration soon. I've got an end goal but I'm setting realistic interim ones along the way as it feels far too much otherwise.

GnomeDePlume · 13/05/2025 06:09

@TragicMuse I too wore one of my older makes yesterday. One of the first tops I made when I started sewing again a few years ago.

I now have several tops which are really too big to wear. Madness!

Do you think you’ll recut them? I’m wondering if I will for the fabrics I really love…

I have some amazing green linen which is currently Arthur pants but I don’t want to never wear them once they’re too big. And I sweated blood over my top-stitching on the felt-felled seams it’s so neat!!

Kay2000 · 13/05/2025 10:32

A friend of mine has started on MJ and has been on it 4 weeks. She lost 5lb the first week and nothing since. She says she eats porridge and fruit for breakfast, skips lunch or yoghurt/cracker and chicken with veg for dinner, no snacks, lots of water. She’s started swimming and is doing 100 lengths a week. Her provider has moved her to 5mg this week. She’s around 18st so plenty to lose. She says she never loses weight on a diet, and the only success she’s ever had is on a very low calorie diet programme.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I feel bad as I encouraged her to try it and so far she’s wasting the money. Although she says she feels more energetic on it, no side effects at all. Do some people have zero response?

LordJohnGrey · 13/05/2025 10:57

Can I ask, what do you do with your sharps boxes?

TragicMuse · 13/05/2025 11:00

LordJohnGrey · 13/05/2025 10:57

I take them to a pharmacy which will dispose of them. Your local council should have a list of which ones will do that. Some Boots do it, but not all…

SilenceInside · 13/05/2025 11:01

@Kay2000 The clinical trials showed that some people did not lose a statistically significant amount of weight (5% of starting weight) after the 72 weeks of the trial. On the 5mg dose 89% of people lost 5% of their weight or more, on the 10mg and 15mg dose it was 96% of people. So most people did lose some weight, but a small number didn't, after 72 weeks.

I would say that it's too early to decide if it isn't working for your friend. She may need a higher dose, for longer, before it starts to work. Or she might be in the small number who don't lose much weight even on the 15mg. But it's too soon to say, and the only way to find out is to keep trying, I suppose.

Is she eating enough? That sounds like so few calories I wonder if her body has gone into 'conservation' mode.

A good starting point would be to calculates her BMR and TDEE then deduct circa 500 calories to get a guide of how many calories to aim for.

Too few calories can be problematic

Crikeyalmighty · 13/05/2025 13:17

Interestingly I went to a dance class last night ( elite ) -excellent by the way- it was kind of like salsa but no men allowed and was all sizes and ages- great fun - one of the instructors is as fit as a fiddle and lovely figure but she isn’t skinny - she was talking about WLI and said she had thought about it - her BMI was30 and she was about 5ft 6 - I can honestly say though she truly looked great and very fit and well - so whilst on paper some on here may want to get down to that 24 level - I wouldn’t get in a fizz if you do indeed look and feel amazing in late 20s/low 30s - I think so many of these levels don’t account for build/ample boobs or age etc - not all older people look or feel great bordering skinny

I did wonder that however in the long term you’d still lose weight - no one in a famine struck country doesn’t lose weight! I think she’s resistant to eating more as she’s adamant she has to eat very low cal to lose weight. I will suggest it to her tho thanks.

I must admit I’m a bit like your friend. I lose nothing on 1,200 calories a day after the first week. And I’ve tried this for years and years. I only lose weight on less than 1,000 calories per day which is what I’m eating most days because of the MJ - only difference is I don’t feel deprived or hungry so it’s easier. Does your friend have health conditions to make it difficult to lose weight? I have PCOS which does impact it

CosmicCuppa · 13/05/2025 14:17

5mg day 3. I threw up bile this morning and have had some crazy hiccups and indigestion.

orherwise no negative side effects and these are minor.

There's no reason she can't do VLCD with mj, I've done fast 800 in combo for over two years now. I'm the same, need to be under 1000 to lose
