Thought I'd kick start a new thread for this oh so supportive little group, as the last thread was reaching it's limit.

Guys, what do you use the track the bmi and work out what level of obesity you are and what weights you need to be to reach each milestone.
The one I use on the nhs site just says obese, no levels...and you can't see what weights take ypu away from there

The obesity levels change every 5 BMIs. So overweight is 25-30, class 1 obese is 30-35, class 2 is 35-40, class 3 (morbid) is 40+.
My scales tell me mine, which is easier than entering new stats into the online calculators each week. I've made a note of what my weight needs to be to drop into each category though too, on my weight loss spreadsheet.

I use an app called monitor you weight. Its quite basic but does what I need.
It has a graph which predicts your goal date which is proving depressing now as my weight loss is about 1-1.5lb a week, where as it was closer to 3lb at the beginning so each week the date moves back a bit 🤣

Weightlossprincess · 05/06/2025 14:50

@PinkArt @wafflingdreamer thanks guys, that's really helpful

afaloren · 05/06/2025 16:02

2lb off this week. Pleased with that because we had friends staying for the weekend and also I weighed a day early as we are off on holiday today.

94lb down from HW, been on MJ three weeks. Seven stone beckons, as does 100lb down!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 05/06/2025 17:14

@afaloren 94lbs!! Wow, that’s just incredible, you must look and feel like a completely different person

MummyInTheNecropolis · 05/06/2025 20:31

4lbs off this week, bringing my total to exactly 6 and a half stone. I still can’t quite believe it!

I've weighed in today and am 18 stone exactly. Getting closer to 4 stone loss and being not "morbid" hopefully within next 2 weeks!

It is crazy that despite starting in January and reasonably good losses/response to MJ - I will still be obese in Dec (and have lost potentially 7/8 stone) 😳. Will hopefully move into overweight
Spring next year but it certainly is a long game for us int it. A very long one.

I went to a different woke site yesterday and a collegaue I've not seen since last year passed me in the corridor and said "wow you've lost weight. You really have." which, while nice it's noticible, it shocks me how I must have come across. I'm 18st and morbidly obese so huge by anyones standards right now.... How bad I must have come across before 😢 .

I was job hunting last year and I do think there was prejudice (probably wright and age..) At the time I said this to various people who said I was defeatist /using it as an excuse not to try (heh I applied to loads) but just seeing reactions makes me wonder. I'll probably try again job wise after September (I left toxic job at easter and am so much better for it but relying on some contract work which won't be long term and not a lot of hours).

Anyway in positive news I walked an hour and 20 yesterday. Well that included 2 breaks but at least an hour. I haven't been able to dream of this for so long. I was hot when I got back (overheat easily) and thinking of taking a dry flannel and wetting it part way round next time. But actually physically I was fine. Getting out is helping a lot.

SilenceInside · 06/06/2025 07:13

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden congratulations on getting to 18st, great progress! Into the 17s soon!

I’m still obese after 48 weeks…. but I’m wearing size 16 clothes, I’m in week 6 of Couch to 5k and I can run nonstop for 20 minutes. My blood pressure is optimal (still on meds but I always will be I think), my resting heart rate is under 60, I can walk all day… The difference between now and a year ago is total. So the fact I’m still categorised as obese does sting a little, but it’s just a classification. And time will pass, the numbers will go down and soon that classification won’t apply to me.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/06/2025 07:26

Wow yes that's so true. And I hope to be where you are now at the end of the year and yes that all soudns amazing!! You've done amazingly
And yes obese and size 16 is words apart from where I started at 22ish stone and in stretchy size 26-28 that just kept stretching! It's a very different kettle of fish.

So impressed you're running 😍.

Motnight · 06/06/2025 07:45

Bloody hell. My starting weight isn't even on the chart that @Blondeshavemorefun has linked to 😯. But it's given me an incentive to get into the "simply" obese category, I am not too far away from it.

Some great achievements being posted here, well done everyone 😁.

Here’s the next page of it which hopefully covers your weight @Motnight 😘 tho for taller people

if not I will have a look for you to see if can find one for you

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/06/2025 08:05

No mine isn't either @Motnight it stops at 46.1 bmi for my height (5ft6) which is 20stone 7. So anyone my height and in the category of "10stone + to lose" would be off that chart 😳.

I'm realising too my category was super morbid obese when I started MJ in Jan 49bmi (138. 2 21 st 11).

And super super morbid obese the year before when. I was at maximum weight at 22st 10 (bmi 51.1)

Ive known about healthy/overweight /obese/morbid categories for a long time and those goals are etched in my brain. Particularly escaping "morbid" (I think lots of places call it cat 1,2,3 now instead) but didn't know about these extra ones!!!

I remember once a 111 doctor talking to me (accidental overdose - took new medication twice) and actually said my weight was off her chart (stopped at 115kg) It was while calculating so don't think she meant to! But it became another "goal" on my list.

When you do the NHS bmi calculator you get a little chart at the end of normal/under/over weight but only when you're under bmi 40. I am really, looking forwards to getting "the chart" 😂.

Thankyou for sharing that @Blondeshavemorefun . Although horrifying, it's nice to see that my loss over 5 months has not only brought me onto your chart but right down a whole category! I'm almost tempted to print it off and colour the squares as I go down. I do love a chart....

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/06/2025 08:09

And @Motnight hugely, exciting you're nearly into "obese". I'm so nearly out of morbid which is a category behind you but great to be working down the categories!

Would be crazy to those with just a few stone to lose to hear the excitement about being "just" obese wouldn't it. I'm so glad to have you all in my phone as its such a huge journey were on and you're all so ace.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2025 08:10

I think this one goes to 23s - I’m a lb girl but it’s in kg

Ha blondes not sure about @Motnight butI needed to go "up" not "across"!

My height was on there but my weight wasn't. Beyond hope maybe.

God I'm thankful for mounjaro. No wonder it felt like I was always fighting a losing battle trying to lose a few pounds. It was never going to work with this level of obesity.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/06/2025 08:11

Ah cross post - yes I'm on that one 😁. Genuinely excited I'm now on your original one and coming down it compared to where I started.

TragicMuse · 06/06/2025 08:26

Morning losers!!

NSV for me today. I’m wearing a pair of size 20 jeans. That’s Sainsbury size 20, not sure how their sizing stacks up against anyone else!

I am sitting in them!

They are not straining at the seams!

I bought them to cut down and cuff. Haven’t done that yet.

But all my 24s are literally falling off me. I have taken them in and altered as far as I can. They have to be resold/reused/recycled now!!

Vinted calls!

This feels nice. And not having lots of loose fabric also changes my silhouette. Double win!

Have a great losing day!

SecretSquirrel703 · 06/06/2025 08:30

At my heaviest July 2020 my bmi was 57.9! I'm not sure i even want to know now, but I think I had Super Morbidly Obese in my mind. I'm only on my 4th week of MJ, but with previous losses since then, I'm now 46.4 Obese Class III, so Morbidly Obese still 😕

I've just done a reality check on my weight tracker as I'd set my goal date for next May. With 7st still to lose, even my new date of 30.09.26 is very optimistic!

Oh well, got to start somewhere eh?!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/06/2025 08:34

It will get there. And this group is amazing for inspiration that it does. I'm now 5months in and nearly not "super" but when I started loved hearing the hope that it was possible as I don't think I'd allowed myself to believe that it was.

But yes long journey... I think mine will be 16months to be near healthy and even then last few pounds could take ages!

Billybingbong · 06/06/2025 09:05

Good morning fellow losers. Week 9 weigh-in and 2lb off. A couple of small achievements ticked off - I've now lost 10% of my body weight, and my BMI has dropped into the 40's. I really do hate those pesky BMI charts with a passion. They are so outdated and unrealistic, it's a joke. But even so, it's always nice to see it dropping. My next aim is to see 19 something on the scales. Only a few lbs to go, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks

SW 22st 8lb
CW 20st 4lb
GW tbc

I hope everyone is having a good week, onwards and downwards 💕
