Can't believe I'm now a size 6!

Gone from 11st 5 to 7st 9 in 8 months (mounjaro) and I still cannot comprehend that I fit into my size 6 jeans that I've had for over 10 years. Has anyone lost a huge amount of weight and struggled to accept they are a size they never thought they'd be? Even when I owned the jeans, I was always a bit too big for them. Now they fit me perfectly. One thing I am sad about, none of my clothes fit me anymore even the ones I love!

No UK size 6! They did my weight and height - my weight is somewhere around 55kg if that helps? I think I just have a small frame I definitely have loads of wobbly bits. I work out loads and have a fair amount of muscle so I was disappointed they told me to lose weight 😂

I see you are 5'6" and that you were advised to lose 10lb of fat (or gain 10lb of muscle).

55kg is a healthy 19.6 BMI.
Losing 10lb would take you down to 50kg and quite underweight. Seems odd advice.

Well I'm genuinely shocked because you r almost underweight! Whoever told you to loose weight. Should b struck off!! (IMO!!)

There's no hope for the rest of us if size 6 and a BMI of around 18/19 is too fat! Bloody Nora!

Elboob · 02/05/2025 22:29

I'm reading all your stories of loss and am really pleased for you.
I'm on my second pen of 7.5 mg and only just losing very slowly (one pound this week!)
I've lost 8lb in total and 3inches off my waist in 3.5 months
The suppression only started at 7.5mg and I've ordered a second of the same.
I'm exercising hard 3-5 times a week (body pump and Zumba classes) but its so slow. It is going down but I am jealous of the 4 stone+ losses in 6 months.
(my starting weight was 16st5). I can't excercise more without being knackered!!
Any hints please?

I’m 15 stone and my GP won’t prescribe it for me because I have no other weight related health issues. How on earth do fairly normal sized people get a prescription? 😳

It’s purchased privately from a pharmacy.

I would say if you are into an obese BMI, that IS massively overweight!

So how would you describe morbidly obese? Surely, that is the category that is “massively overweight”.

25-30 overweight, >30 obese, >40 morbidly obese.

or
25-30 overweight, >30 massively overweight, >40 immensely overweight?

Not very sensitive terms though.

StrikeForever · 02/05/2025 23:58

@rosemarble or
overweight, very overweight, extremely (or massively) overweight

Yes, that sounds a bit better.

TheChosenTwo · 03/05/2025 18:05

So many people seem to be focussing their jealousy on totally the wrong thing. A smaller clothes size or a lower number on the scales means so much more than what you look like.
My motivation was purely for my health. I reached 40 and nearly the age my mum was when she had a stroke that nearly killed her and has left her permanently disabled.
I have insulin resistant PCOS and my body literally held on to everything. My BMI was 35 when I started this 6 months ago. I’m 4.5 stone down now and have gone from a clothes size 18 to a 10/12. I’m so relieved that I’m now sitting with a BMI of 25.1, my blood pressure has reduced significantly, I’m no longer carrying so much dangerous visceral fat. I’m pretty much out of the danger zone and couldn’t be more relieved. Do I look better? What does better mean? I definitely look more comfortable. But I’m also way less likely to die from a weight related ailment. I know which one means more to me.

Zippidydoodah · 03/05/2025 19:13

Well done @TheChosenTwo 😊

howdoyoudooooo · 30/04/2025 19:21

How tall are you? A woman would have to be very tall indeed for 15 stone not to be massively overweight. If your BMI is over 30, you’ll be able to pay for it.

You and others misunderstood my comment.

I’m obviously very obese but with no weight related health issues so I can’t get it on prescription from my GP. However, reading some of these posts, I’m shocked that there are posters who are clearly not remotely obese, getting hold of the drugs so easily. It’s crackers!

I looked online and a month’s supply of the drug (assuming you can find and pay for a private prescription) is just under €300 over here.

I’ve seen adverts for ASDA online selling it for less than £130 for a months supply. 😳

Sorry, I read “I’ll look into getting it online… I had no idea you could get it if you’re not massively overweight” and inferred that you meant that you couldn’t get it because you weren’t massively overweight (not being rude by the way, just using the same wording).

That chart is v interesting. Not seen it before. It puts 'underweight' at under about 20 BMI which is a little higher than most (which usually have underweight at about 18).I'm also surprised that height makes a difference. I thought the point of BMI was already to have accounted for height and be able to compare people across different heights...

It’s in many chemists local to me. By the till so I’ve spent hours looking at it over the years 😂

I like it’s clearer then the usual nhs one

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/05/2025 09:15

Plus personally I think 18 is far too skinny and baring on anorexic

so 20 is better for bmi

seems for my height 5/7 I have 2st leeway from top end of green healthy to bottom and lowest end

I’ve been 10.10 before and couldn’t keep it and think that’s bmi 23

can’t imagine getting to 9/6 - I think I would look ill tbh

people say to me now I’m skinny and don’t lose any more but still size 16 in trousers and overweight via bmi

but think as I was a right porker I do look slimmer now obviously losing over 5s

Papergirl1968 · 04/05/2025 10:04

Stepfordian · 30/04/2025 18:10

I’m heavier than you and I pay for it, you won’t get it on the NHS unless you have another issue as well as being overweight and even then it’s not easy to get, it has to be prescribed by a specialist clinic, not your GP.

I have diabetes and my GP prescribed it. In fact they offered it to me, no specialist involvement needed.
My worry now is dropping out of the diabetic range and being no longer eligible. I know that sounds crazy but I just couldn’t afford to pay for it.
I’ve lost nearly four stone in nearly a year so slower than some losers and some of my bigger clothes are hanging off me. I’m 5’7 and dropped from a 26-28 to a 20-22 so still a long way to go. I have photos of myself as a size 16 (30ish years ago when I was in my early to mid 20s) and I looked slim then for my height and build (although I didn’t feel it at the time).

It’s been quoted several times on this thread but for clarity, you cannot be prescribed these drugs if you are not obese, unless you have other weight related issues. I had a BMI of just over 30 when I started them.

I thought this was an awful, post/headline. But just part of the ridiculous “skinny competitiveness” and bragging you unfortunately get amongst some women esp on MN re. weight loss and rate of weight loss. Size 6 is underweight or verging on underweight for the majority of women. It’s absolutely nothing to crow about to normal women who want to be a normal, healthy sized weight.

Gettingbysomehow · 04/05/2025 12:34

Itsoneofthose · 30/04/2025 23:07

I would hate to sound body shaming, but I do find it perplexing that they sell size 6 in adult clothing.

I think sizes are a lot larger now. I'm a 14 but buy 12 most of the time and always in knitwear.

MounjaroMounjaro · 04/05/2025 13:16

I've just found an old Miss Selfridge blouse from about 40 years ago - it's a size 12 - the same size I am now - and when I tried it on the bottom button and buttonhole were several inches apart. It's a hell of a lot smaller than the shirts I wear now.

Divebar2021 · 04/05/2025 13:18

I’ve got a Karen Millen jacket in a size 12 from the 90’s… probably 95 / 96 and I can get it zipped up but there’s not much wiggle room.

doodleschnoodle · 04/05/2025 13:46

I’m at 22BMI so absolutely healthy BMI, slap bang in the middle really of that green range. I’m in no danger of being underweight any time soon, but even I find some size 8 tops are a bit loose sometimes. I’ve got a size 6-8 hoodie that fits perfectly and a couple of size 6 T-shirts that fit well too. Sizing varies massively between clothing manufacturers anyway, vanity sizing, how and where you carry weight (I’m a 10 on the bottom for example, so that’s where my weight distribution is) all contribute.

Unless you're petite, like the Op is, and like I am. Then you can be right in the middle of a healthy BMI and wear size 6 clothes.

Also, I assure you that petite women are plentiful, and are perfectly normal. (Most of the time.)

Fizbosshoes · 04/05/2025 20:56

Tbh I'm a bit envious, I'm less than 5ft , sometimes size 6 , sometimes 8....but bmi 21.
I'm a recovered anorexic so while I know I'm a healthy weight and am pretty fit, sub 20 is always appealing....
