Can't believe I'm now a size 6!

Gone from 11st 5 to 7st 9 in 8 months (mounjaro) and I still cannot comprehend that I fit into my size 6 jeans that I've had for over 10 years. Has anyone lost a huge amount of weight and struggled to accept they are a size they never thought they'd be? Even when I owned the jeans, I was always a bit too big for them. Now they fit me perfectly. One thing I am sad about, none of my clothes fit me anymore even the ones I love!

Are you being monitored OP? Sized 6 hardly sounds like a healthy weight size.

How tall are you OP?

I am 5ft. Just shy off it.

Size 6?!! Bloody hell OP!!

My BMI is now 20.5 and I'm a size 12. I hold weight round my middle sadly!! I'll maybe be a size 10 at 19 BMI if I can get there.

What's your BMI? What shape are you? (I'm guessing not an apple like me!!!)

How did you get to size 6? are you a healthy weight?

Assuming you are not underweight, then well done! Must feel great 👍

Thank you @GetOverItPleaae. I'm at a healthy weight for my height (5ft) and I'm pretty square body shape wise and do not have one ounce of curve on me sadly. Think my bmi might be around 19.6, but I've gone off how I feel rather than the scales. I've been off mounjaro for 2 months now and wanted to go slightly slower than my goal weight (8 stone) so it allowed for me to have wiggle room. I've managed to stay at 7st 9 but do fluctuate a lot. To most it seems like an unhealthy weight but I'm very short and have a small build. You'll get there, it dropped off me all off a sudden whilst on 12,5mg x

To those reading this and thinking it’s a risk free easy fix, although I’m delighted to be a size 10 again I did lose a huge, and I mean huge, amount of my hair and it’s not started to grow back yet. Lots have other side effects too so bear it in mind before starting.

@outlanderish can I ask what Mounjaro dose you were on to achieve this loss and what diet did you follow, also what exercise regime? Asking because I'm just starting it and would love a weight loss like this! It seems a really quick time though considering you weren't really heavy to start with just a bit overweight? You must have surely had to restrict quite a bit to achieve this? Would it have been possible to do without the mounjaro do you think?

Hi @Purplefoxesno problem! I started from 2.5 and went right up to 12.5. I never tried the maintenance dose. To achieve my weight loss I cut my food in half. I was eating the same amount of food as my 6ft3 boyfriend and that's where the weight piled on. I cut out breakfast and started fasting. So would eat between the hours of 12 - 8 and then not eat until 12 the next day. It was the saving grace for me, and as it diminishes food noise I found it pretty easy. i then was walking the dog for an hour every single day on my lunch break and in the evening, so I upped my exercise. I swapped a normal size plate for a small plate (still do) and wad eating lots of protein rich food. Good luck! I found the weight starting really dropping off me at month 4-5 x

OP hasn’t returned which makes me wonder if it was a genuine post.

I'm definitely genuine Grin

Me too. My hair has become paper thin, but it'll grow back and I'd rather be at a healthy weight and have thinner hair for the time being x

Congratulations.
Do you think it’s possibly time to stop now then op?
What are your plans going forward?

Thank you so much @BoyDoIMissSecrets I've been off Mounjaro for two months and although the food noise creeps back in, your stomach has shrunk so much you can't possibly eat what you used too. I also swapped a big plate for a small plate and I currently still fast (this is what helped me lose all the weight quickly) and upped my protein and exercise. I'm just hoping to maintain it now and stay around 7st 9 - 8st 5.

Please be careful with these drugs - some of the posts on this thread are a bit concerning. I work closely with an eating disorders team and they were telling me about the impacts they are seeing from these drugs. A year ago it was anorexic getting hold of them, but now they are seeing people who have slipped into anorexic behaviours and extremely low weights from using them. It does make sense when you think about it, if someone is obese due to disordered eating or food addiction then they are by definition at high risk for weight loss addiction as it is the same brain mechanisms.
They are wonder drugs for a lot of people but we are only just starting to see some major risks coming out at the other end of the scale (literally!)

Do you mind me asking about the fasting? Do you only eat within a certain time window?

congratulations on the weight loss. Must be like a new lease of life! 🥳

Hi @Zippidydoodahof course! Thank you so much! I only eat between 12-8 and won't eat until 12 the next day. I make sure I'm eating low calorie but high protein foods. The minute I started fasting the weight literally fell off me. It's my saving grace! I'm still fasting even now and will slowly go back to normal habits but as I've been doing it for so long now, I don't mind it and it's helped me maintain my weight.

I lost 6 stone recently. What really blows my mins is when I am ironing my size 8/10 clothes. I can’t get my head around the fact that they fit me. They look like children’s clothes compared to the one size fits all/size 20/22 that I was wearing before.

Hi @CautiousLurker01my goodness, that is AMAZING. A huge huge congratulations! I bet it feels exhilarating knowing you fit into size 8/10! It's a shock isn't it? I ordered a size 8 top the other day and thought there's no way it would fit me and tada, it was a little loose. Albeit all clothing shops do have different sizing but my goodness. It's hard to wrap your head around when you've been a certain size and weight for so long.

GustyBaloo · 01/05/2025 10:26

I'd never be a size 6. My hip bones simply won't allow it. Pear shaped. At thinnest pre kids Size 8 top, size 10 bottom.
I wouldn't want to be that thin again though.

You have to be obese, and you have to send photographs of your body so you can't just pretend you weight 3 stone more than you do! Why are you trying to get hold of a medication that isn't prescribed for your weight? Does that sound sensible?

No, it doesn’t. As I say, I don’t know much about it.

but I guess it’s true that there are no real shortcuts (take don’t involve risks).

im highly unlikely to try and do it. I’m just fed up of being unable to shift this spare tyre and facing down the barrel of looking (and feeling) like this for the rest of my life.

I have caring responsibilities so can’t easily get out the house other than work (which is desk based) but I have bought a resistance bar and have seen some Pilates types videos on YouTube I will try.

NoWayRose · 30/04/2025 21:52

These threads do make me jealous! I’m a 12 with a BMI of 23. Would love to be an 8-10 again, but wouldn’t be allowed a prescription. But then I see people going down to size 8, so they must have gone past the BMI of 30 rule and then kept going somehow … Maybe they will change the threshold one day.

I can’t believe how quickly these drugs have just changed the world - I keep bumping into people that have suddenly lost weight and look amazing!

It is only starting weight you need a BMI over 30. You can keep going to a healthy BMI and some companies will keep you on maintenance dose for up to 2 years after.

lavenderlou · 01/05/2025 19:07

It does seem like it should be better regulated, eg the provider sets up a healthy target goal weight and when you reach it they won't provide any more medication). I suppose that would involve proof of weight which could be difficult (although presumably you have to provide proof when starting the medication?). It would also mean lower revenue for the providers so I can't see them doing anything about it.

SilenceInside · 01/05/2025 19:16

@lavenderlou most providers will ask you for updated photos after 6 months. They will also ask you about your target weight, and review if you get to that weight or lower. They will all stop prescribing if you drop to underweight, or to a BMI which they consider is too low. So, not sure what else you’re asking for?

I don't really know. I just think the losing weight could become a bit addictive for some and lead to unhealthy outcomes. It must be fairly easy to just send an older photo or something that doesn't show your true weight.

SilenceInside · 01/05/2025 19:29

@lavenderlou photos need to be dated though, so unless you pre planned a series of photos just in case, that seems unlikely. Many pharmacies will ask for video consults when you are at a healthy weight, rather than just photos. I’m sure some people manage to lie and get around the checks, but it’s not commonplace or easy.

Ah, I see. That sounds more robust.

You can take Mounjaro indefinitely at a maintenance dose. I am planning to do that given the significant improvement in some of the other medical issues that I suffered prior to taking it.

You don't stop the medication when you reach goal weight. That's not how recovery from obesity works.

I don’t know if I have the will power to fast…..maybe I’ll give it a go though 😊

Just realised you might not be British! I'm struggling to see how anyone could be UK size 6 and told to loose fat. Please tell me you weren't referring to UK size 6 @HeyItsPickleRick ? Are you from USA?

No UK size 6! They did my weight and height - my weight is somewhere around 55kg if that helps? I think I just have a small frame I definitely have loads of wobbly bits. I work out loads and have a fair amount of muscle so I was disappointed they told me to lose weight 😂
