New thread for all of us.

Thank you for allowing me to rant, share our ups and downs. Our group blows my mind of how we are so supportive of each other.

Lovely people who are struggling with difficult side effects, I read something on another earlier starter thread by people being really helped by taking a daily probiotic tablet. I take one anyway (I rattle with supplements!) so no idea if it helps with SEs but thought I'd mention since a few of you seem to be struggling.

Long day at the office followed by fish and chips with the team at 10pm. I barely ate half the fish and just a small handful of chips, but I felt super full last night because it was all still sitting in my stomach by the time I went to bed. And annoyingly but unsurprisingly scales bounced up again today. To be expected, but I didn't even enjoy the food so pissed off that I sacrificed the calories on something so crap!

The weight gain overnight would be the water retention from the salt not the calories . Just be mindful eating next couple of days and drink loads of water and it will drop down again ☺️ (it’s ok to have a”crap” meal sometimes )

I definitely retain water really badly when I eat salty food - I track all my food and weight on MFP and it's amazing to see what Japanese food in particular does to water weight.

So long as my weekly trend is downwards I'm not going to get too hung up on daily gains/losses. I just find it fascinating to see patterns emerging. Things that I thought were OK for me to eat in small quantities seem to have disproportionate impact, whereas things I thought might be more problematic maybe aren't so much in small quantities. Different people have different metabolic responses, and a lot of this for me is working out what mine are. Faulty Asian genes when it comes to insulin resistance - hence all the weight/health issues in my family.

I upped to 5 on Monday after being largely trouble free on 2.5. It's been a bit rough since Tuesday night TBH. Major sulphur burps and D without the V but definite nausea. I took immodium yesterday morning and things seemed to be improving. I even survived a trip to Ikea 😜but last night I was up and down too, so took another immodium. Feel exhausted this morning and not like eating at all.

I don't have any work this week - I'm freelance - but it would be a real problem if I was like this when I did as I can't really call in sick (joys of self-employment) and my work is very interactive and not desk-based. Wondering if I should use clicks and reduce my dose on Monday.

@Namerequired I would love to know if anything can calm the sodding burps down too. 😖I really don't like peppermint tea or gingery drinks.

Oh gosh you’ve it a rough time of it! Maybe consider 3.75mg next week for a couple weeks then go up to 5mg. You’re very brave going to ikea with the poops 🤣 cos once you’re in there, there’s no easy way to get out 😩

You can take peppermint and ginger capsules if you don’t like the drinks. Peppermint oil capsules are fab for bloating etc and ginger ones for nausea. I have a pletherer of tablets for jic moments 🤣 windeze, Buscopan, Rennies, anti sickness tablets (can’t think of the name) and I have a root ginger drink in the fridge which makes me wanna gag. Even adding some fresh root ginger in cold water helps

i really hope you’re over the worst of it and I also hope you have an amazing loss this week from all the 💩🤣

100% agree , I am a daily weigher too and it’s so interesting to see how different food types impacts

ive never been a water drinker until MJ now I love water but do notice on the scale if I don’t drink enough as it seems the more I drink the more I loose

also noticed that cardio exercise causes some water retention for a day or two

Pepto bismal is a game changer, it's the only thing that has worked for me to stop the burping and indigestion, 100% effective

TheBossOfMe · 24/04/2025 11:53

@Bipaloss Running definitely makes me retain water, it's something to do with inflammation (the good type). Somebody on another thread explained why really well but I can't quite remember what they said.

An actimel was working nicely for me. I think mine this week has come from eating something that wasn’t quite right! As not had both D and V for a very long time.

I've been using Sainsbury's equivalent of Gaviscon liquid but it seems from everything I'm reading on here like I will have to make the move to the pink stuff!!

Thanks for all the tips and support everyone. Ginger and peppermint in pill form sound much more doable.

If I weigh myself immediately after a long run then that is when I'm at my lightest (probably through dehydration) - which of course I do because I like the numbers it gives me - but it tends to rebound the following day and I weigh more than I did before the long run (probably water retention/inflammation). It all evens out in the end!

Lolliz87 · 24/04/2025 12:02

Wouldratherbewatchingmafs · 24/04/2025 08:38

So sorry to gear. Im just (fingers crossed) coming out the other side. I've been on the dehydration sachets and electrolyte drinks like crazy. What dosage are you on?

I was on 5 but because of the awful SE I actually dropped down to 3.75 this week as I couldn’t cope with being so poorly mid week. And it was going well, no sulphur burps, no migraines could actually eat (but healthy) and then boom had some chicken wings last night when we went out (off the starter portion as a main) as they were healthiest thing on menu and included protein and they have taken me down 😂 should have had the blooming pate 😂😂😂

GameOfJones · 24/04/2025 12:40

Small update after taking my first 5mg injection yesterday morning. No terrible side effects so far but I burped this morning and could taste the curry I had for dinner last night which was pretty grim 🤣. I did eat later than usual, around 7.30pm when I normally have dinner around 5.30pm/6pm so don't know if it's that or just because the food is still sat in my stomach.

I am also extremely tired. I'm working in the office today and just feel like I want a nap. I'm genuinely considering trying to have a quick sleep in my car on my lunch break! I had fatigue when I first started on 2.5mg but mainly in the evenings which wasn't so bad but despite a good night's sleep of 8 hours I woke up exhausted today. Hopefully it's just my body getting used to the higher dose and as side effects go it's not a terrible one but I'd like at least some energy!

I tried gaviscon tablets and liquid and they did nothing, pepto all the way!!!

TheBossOfMe · 24/04/2025 13:18

@GameOfJones I get that if I eat too late, food sits in stomach for a lot longer. Peppermint oil capsules help with that though, or peppermint tea after a meal (fresh mint version works best, better than tea bags)

Haha! It always happens when we're trying to be good.
I'm the same - virtually no SEa and then bam!

TheBossOfMe · 24/04/2025 13:58

@Lolliz87 Did the chicken wings have any chilli on them? I think a lot of people are finding that anything with chilli is a problem. I can just about tolerate it but definitely not anywhere as much as I used to.

Overjiggly · 24/04/2025 14:33

Sorry to hear about everyone having bad SE's I'm still splitting my dose and that's keeping mine at bay.

NSV - went to the supermarket without make up! My skin has been terrible since having DS but it seems the healthy eating is having a good effect. Previous diets didn't make a difference and I think that's because I would just east less of the same stuff whereas now my diet is full of good stuff and less processed food.

Didn’t taste any chili and I don’t like spice too much (I have korma at the Indian haha) but perhaps. Either way it’s okay today I’m feeling fine just a bit tired. I’ll just be avoiding chicken wings for a long time!

Ladies (sorry if there’s any gents among us)

The hospital did me dirty 🤣 they said to expect some mild discomfort 😒 Imagine the worst cystitis you’ve had where you couldn’t sit still and the only relief was going a wee. My whole body was sweating and clammy from the pain 🤣

Thanks to some codeine and ibuprofen, I’m now all good 💪🏼

Apparently I have a tight and inflamed urethra which is common in aging women (I’m 41) 👀 and have been suggested trying oestrogen suppositories. The joys of being female 🤣

Ageing?!! At 41?!! My love you're a spring chicken and don't let anyone convince you otherwise 😉

My thoughts exactly 🤣 but the lack of oestrogen might explain my new beard 🧔🏼‍♀️🤣

Oh that sounds painful! Aging at 41 ffs 🥴 rude!

Does anyone else use Pharmacy2U? My second pen has just been delivered and they’ve sent me another sharps bin 🤣 I hope they’re not going to send one with every pen! It’ll take forever to fill just one up.

I’m on week 5 day 4

so far I have lost 10lbs not a huge amount but I’m happy with this however this week I have had the worst constipation that I have had since I started
