New thread for all of us.

Thank you for allowing me to rant, share our ups and downs. Our group blows my mind of how we are so supportive of each other.

Help!
I just bought some chocolate! I'm on week 3 of 5mg, jabbed on Monday and usually today I have a great mindset and want to eat healthy food.
I did have to take a senna laxative last night. Really needed to.
Is this a blip or do I need to move up to 7.5? I was hoping to stay low as possible

Thanks everyone

One chocolate bar won't derail your whole journey. It's perfectly ok to have chocolate,, treat meals, and days off. We're on a marathon, not a sprint, so dont beat yourself up. I've had days where suppression has been low and my old overeating demons have come back. But overall I'm still losing.

Justformounjaro · 30/04/2025 22:49

@TheBossOfMe I’m sure I’ve read that exercise can cause inflammation that makes the body hold water as well as salty food. I weigh daily and see marked differences when I’ve had Chinese food, but if I do a day of the week weight comparison for each day of the week ie Monday to last Monday, Tuesday to last Tuesday etc, I can see my losses are fairly consistent.

financialmuddle · 30/04/2025 22:51

That's a lot to be coping with, @CallMeStella. I'm so sorry. Sounds like you've been keeping things on track despite everything though which is amazing. 🌼

Sloelydoesit · 30/04/2025 22:54

CallMeStella · 30/04/2025 21:57

Nothing wrong with this in my opinion, have a reasonable size amount and stop there. Dont rely on MJ to stop you wanting to eat treats, just have them in moderation. Remember this is about rewiring our thoughts and behaviour more than it is about losing weight

Ok, thank you. It's just been a bit of a surprise. I love the dopamine hit of tasty food - it's been my downfall for years.
I have been so happy I didn't need it so a bit blindsided

Thanks also. It's looking at me on th kitchen counter. Not sure whether I will resist or whether I'll give in.
Have really enjoyed not wanting it so feeling a bit of a failure!

I’m not a very observant person when it comes to myself if I’m honest, I’m a go with the flow kind of girl but times like this truly show the change since starting MJ and the more subtle benefits. Normally any kind of dip in my health, or stress, I’d be reaching for copious amounts of bad food. I’m appreciating not falling into the same bad habits

I was in the same situation a couple weeks ago where I fell into old habits and beat myself up for it. But someone on here made me realise one treat isn’t the end of the world and we’re allowed to have a treat. There’s nothing wrong with eating sweets; cakes and chocolate if we enjoy it, what I think we need to learn is not to eat it to self soothe and to re-learn about portion control

TheBossOfMe · 30/04/2025 08:29

@AintNobodyHereButUsChickens - That's a brilliant weight loss, and amazing NSVs. I also still get hungry, but am realising a few things. Often I think I mistake being thirsty for being hungry - so when I feel hungry, the first thing I do is drink a decent volume of water or Diet Coke (I know, but I slightly exist on the caffeine fix), and then wait 15-20 mins. Most of the time the hunger goes.

The second thing, which has been a revelation for me - sometimes I'm not stomach hungry, just mouth hungry, IYKWIM. It's my tastebuds wanting a fix rather than my stomach feeling empty. I don't have a sweet tooth that much, I tend to crave salty sensations. So what I now have in the fridge or in Tupperware when in the office all the time are low calorie salty snacks. Don't laugh, but I mean things like cornichons and capers or some cucumber, carrots or tomato with some salt and lemon on it. And always some chopped up cold fruit (citrus or sharp apples is my thing). If I feel mouth hungry, I just pop a small mouthful - and lo and behold, the craving to eat goes. It's not quite zero calorie, but it's a huge improvement on the marmite on toast that I would have made, or the couple of mini sausage rolls I'd have popped in my mouth. I can't remember which thread I read that tip on, but it was one of the earlier starters threads. It was like a lightbulb going off in my head when I read somebody describing mouth vs stomach hunger - that's me.

The other thing I read in a research paper about long term WLI maintenance was about hugely slowing down how long it takes to eat a meal. Apparently it takes 15-30 mins, usually closer to 30, for our brains to register stomach fullness. I'm hugely guilty of bolting food, and then half an hour later being sat on the sofa feeling uncomfortably stuffed. So I'm being really mindful of eating much, much more slowly, and starting to recognise the level of "fullness" that I get to 30 mins into a meal that will be full but not uncomfortable 30 mins later, and sated (bar the odd tastebud salty snack) for the rest of the evening. So trying to not just change what I eat, but how I eat. It feels like a game changing combination.

@Spondoolie @GameOfJones Brilliant losses, well done!

Thank you, that all really made sense! Especially the mouth hungry thing! I’ve always been a grazer so I suppose it makes sense for my mouth to be all “Hey where’s the food?” Hopefully it shuts up soon, it’s very annoying. I drink loads now, I have one cup of tea in the morning and then I just drink that Volvic fruity water (the sugar free one, obviously!). I average one whole bottle a day and I think they’re 1.6ltrs which is a lot for me, I never used to drink so much in a day! My skin is feeling better for it too, my face isn’t dry/oily anymore!!

soupforbrains · 01/05/2025 00:02

Sigh….

am I going to have to start banging on about food not being a moral choice again??

there is no such thing as GOOD or BAD food. There is NOTHING wrong with eating chocolate or crisps or cheese or ANYTHING. You can and should eat what you like. We DO have to understand nutritional value and ensure that we are fuelling our bodies but that doesn’t make less nutritious foods Bad or evil or a sin.

also, research has proven that when you get a craving denying it or forcing yourself to resist the desire only increases the desire and makes over eating or excess/binging far MORE likely. You are actually much better off eating the thin you want right away but just portioning yourself a small portion.

@Sloelydoesiti think you will be surprised. If you give yourself a square or two you may find you’re satisfied. I have found that sweet things especially, taste far MORE sweet since starting MJ.

now, don’t let’s make me get the Cult Mantras out again….

soupforbrains · 01/05/2025 00:05

@AintNobodyHereButUsChickensi do the exact same thing drinking wise! The volvic touch of fruit sugar free, one whole bottle a day. Never used to be able to drink water at all unless I really forced myself. MJ has made me more thirsty and the Volvo stuff has made me genuinely enjoy drinking water. It’s fab. Have you tried the cans of the sparkling version? I have some as a something a little different here and there and they’re delicious too.

Flamethrowers · 01/05/2025 06:42

I weighed myself this morning and... my BMI is 24.9!!!!!!! This is a healthy BMI! I've gone from 73.8kg (BMI 28 with high cholesterol) to 65.7 kg in 8 weeks and 5 days. I haven't weighed this for five years. I can fit into my box of old clothes. I'm walking taller just in time for the spring heatwave.

BUT - while part of me is really really pleased there is another part of me that is worried. I cannot sustain this diarrhea, which has been on and off for two weeks. Chat gpt thinks I have developed a temporary lactose intolerance as I can't eat Greek yogurt and would not dare eat cheese. I am eating what I can and I generally eat healthily (yesterday I had a protein smoothy, chicken soup, an avocado and crackers and a bowl of Greek yogurt and fruit (that lasted five minutes...). I am drinking lots of water. I am walking 10,000 steps a day and going to a Pilates and one PT session each eeek. But I am fatigued. I would really like to get to my goal weight of 60kg (which would be a BMI of 22.5) but I don't want to exhaust myself!!!! I haven't shifted from 2.5 all this time and I'm definitely not increasing my dose! I'd happily give myself thrrr months to loose the remaining ten pounds but I can't seem to slow down the weight loss which plateaus and then whooshes.

Flamethrowers · 01/05/2025 06:51

Also taking supplements - collagen multivitamin with calcium and iron (I've noticed my hair had stopped growing from the growth after a hair dye).

PlexGirl34 · 01/05/2025 06:51

Same here, our tap water isn’t nice on its own so I’ve always drank squash or fruit juices. I bought one of those big Stanley style cups that holds 1.4ltrs, so it works out quite nicely, it keeps the water lovely and chilled all day. I keep meaning to try those sparkling ones, I’ll have to give them a go!

Congrats! That's awesome :)

Can you not just stop having dairy if it's making you ill? Lots of people don't have it. I use Oat milk for tea and coffee. You can get coconut or other plant based yoghurts if you need to have Yoghurt, and you can get vegan cheese. Why don't you just cut out dairy altogether since it's causing you problems?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 01/05/2025 07:58

@Flamethrowers huge congrats on the BMI! Really well done, I hope to get there one day but that’s a loooong way off yet, my BMI is 42 😬 I bet it felt so satisfying getting into those old clothes! I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having a hard time with diarrhea, I really hope it clears off for good!

Can I ask what the supplements you take are called please? I take collagen capsules but thinking I should maybe take vitamins too.

Bipaloss · 01/05/2025 08:16

NSV this morning my tops and T-shirts that were tight are now super loose , the loose tops are like dresses feel like I lost huge amounts arms , neck , shoulders, chest and upper tummy .

as I have a bit of overhang pants are loosening but not as much

my calf bone is now visible and the veins in my feet’s and probably gone around half a shoe size

can put my wedding ring on with ease (used to lick the finger and really push it down)

I am finally able to see the weightloss coming off , can’t wait to see the result on especially my clothes in 3-4 stone time

End of week 6 weigh in day for me.
96.6 kilos today, loss of 0.5 since last week. I did weigh in at 96.3 yesterday morning and I did eat pizza and have a beer last night so I do think I'm more likely to have lost just under a kilo as I have been averaging a kilo a week.
Total loss of nearly 9 kilos so I'm very happy. Just ordered another 2.5 for my 3rd month as I still seem to have good suppression, getting a few more cravings but once I eat I can only eat a small amount and I have been super stressed and wanting to comfort eat so it's probably that.
Have a great day everyone it's a lovely sunny day here in Yorkshire and Im wearing a summer dress that was a bit tight a few weeks ago and now feels good!

MrsMariaReynolds · 01/05/2025 09:22

Happy May! 💐 Here's me celebrating the fact that I'm in the 180s for the first time since breastfeeding my son 17 years ago.

Today ends week 10 of my journey. It'll be the golden dose of my second pen. I foolishly purchased a second 5mg to start next week when I really should have moved up to 7.5mg. The 5 has done very little for me. I still have food noise and hunger and my loss has been rubbish this month (4.5 lbs total for this pen---boo 👎)

But I keep trucking along... Any loss is better than nothing.

TheBossOfMe · 01/05/2025 09:30

@Justformounjaro Yeah, not worrying too much about daily fluctuations, just like seeing them. I've been drinking huge volumes of water exercising in the heat so that will also have an impact. So long as the overall trend is down, the odd daily blip isn't a problem. I've felt like this week is slow, but if I look at my chart, I'm 2lb down from my last jab day.

@soupforbrains 100% agree re no bad foods and food not being a moral choice. I had cheese on toast for dinner last night because it was a late night at work, and it was good! I just didn't scoff four slices like I would have done previously. And had some fruit alongside a couple of squares of chocolate afterwards. Denying cravings isn't what this is about, it's about learning when enough is enough because the satisfaction has been delivered.

@Flamethrowers Is cutting dairy out not an option if that's the trigger?

Lots of scale goals and NSVs - great to see.

I extracted the golden dose this morning - but there was more left in the pen than I realised to it was closer to 7.5mg than 5mg. So have gone up a dose even with the golden. I wonder if I didn't fully dose one week without realising?

museumum · 01/05/2025 09:53

WTF? I stalled these past 2-3 weeks (it was a mistake to do a second month at 2.5mg) but today I am the same weight but 3cm less on my waist. I've measured ten times, it's definitely true. How can I be smaller around the waist but weigh the same? I bloody hate scales!

Anyway, double-dosed today with my 8th and bonus doses of 2.5mg to give me 5mg. Hope that the impression kicks back in again. I will order my 5mg pen for delivery after the BH as I want it to last five weeks ideally. (hard twist was really easy, I just used a washing up glove for traction and a fresh needle).

AddictedtoCrunchies · 01/05/2025 09:56

seasidehunter · 28/04/2025 09:19

W8D1 - no loss this week as scales stuck firm at 11st 9lb. Means I still haven’t quite made it to a full 1st lost. But I ran the marathon yesterday and I’m dehydrated and exhausted from the heat so I don’t think this morning’s weigh in was a true reflection of the state of play.

I would normally jab on Sunday evening but couldn’t face it so will do it this morning. Had wondered whether to use the golden dose of this 2.5mg pen to do 3.75mg this week. But given how I feel today with heat exhaustion/dehydration, I’m not sure it’s a good time to up the dose - I really need to get fluids and food into me and don’t need to risk feeling major SEs. Onwards to next week when I can up the dose and, hopefully, finally get over that 1st hump!

I'm a bit behind on the thread but have been looking out for your post. Did you do London? Or Manchester? Huge well done as it was so hot. I was in London supporting DH and it was exhausting. Congratulations 🎊

I have seen that on forums with people who has been on MJ for 6 months plus that stalling at certain weight for weeks but inches falling off , so seems to be quite normal but strange

also on many groups people mentions stalling on certain percentage 10% of body weight seems to be the most common , where the body calibrates to a new weight . Meaning you see a stall for a couple of weeks and then continue loosing apparently the positive of that is that once who have reached your goal then the body’s new high weight would be the last stall/calibration weight . Many who have stopped MJ who has gained a bit keeps mentioning this. I’m not sure if this is true but would give a positive look at a stall

MamaBanana12 · 01/05/2025 10:38

Does anyone know how much the bonus dose in a 5mg pen is an equivalent too? Say I get 0.6ml out of the pen - how much is that in terms of dosage?

i took 5mg 4th jab Monday. Wanted to do bonus dose tmoro before I go on hols (not taking pens away) but conscious it may be a bigger dose than5mg ?? I get huge suppression on 5mg and my next pen is 5mg
