@taylorswift1989 you're so right re: the "thin and miserable" - only I never even got to thin with SW - just miserable..!

I've lost another 1lb in my random weighing, so am now 17 st 2lb and keep thinking about the fact that the last time I went to Slimming World was in 2018 and I was in the high 16 stones (can't remember the exact amount) - so I'm nearly back to what I was when I was last at my recorded heaviest.... I lost 2 stone at SW to get to about 14 1/2 stone, but was so unhappy and found it soooooo hard. In the end I gave up - used to leave to go to SW meetings but go to the co-op, buy tons of sweets and chocolate and sit in the car park bingeing instead of going to the meetings... 😔I then put 6 stone on over the following 7 years - menopause, marriage breakdown, depression etc....

It's a horrible memory and one that's only just come back as I've realised I'm close now to being that weight again.

Am trying to think positively, in that I'm making big in roads to get rid of all the menopause and depression weight, which is great - but am now back to where I started... 🙄

Ah well - nothing to do but keep going! I've officially lost 15% of my body weight this week and am very nearly halfway to my initial big goal 😃

@MooBaggage you're not alone! I've lost and regained 6 stones at least 3 times. I could blame myself but what MJ makes so clear is that obesity is a metabolic disease and calorie counting is not going to cure it! I believe that MJ is part of the cure but it's not a short term fix. It's long term, a project of healing that will take years and for some of us may mean being on medication forever. I personally hope to come off MJ at some point but who knows. The goal for me is not just to lose weight but to heal my body, which means blood pressure, inflammation, and mood problems, as well as general mobility and strength as I move into later life. That's one of the reasons I don't focus so much on calories or constant weighing myself. For me it's the first time I'm seeing a way to heal my body.

I didn't choose any of the things that made me predisposed to obesity. And I believe that once you have this disease, willpower alone can't fix it. You restrict food and then binge because you can't fight your body forever. MJ changes the game. But I do think we have to be smart in how we play it too.

alwaysscared · 16/05/2025 11:20

Morning losers!! 😉 I have started fasting. I don’t really know what I’m doing but I have my last food at 8/8:30pm and don’t eat until 11/11:30am. Is this long enough? Is it even worth doing? I hopped on the scales again this morning to a half pound gain, which is nothing but I’m frustrated because of the plateau that lasted a lifetime! I haven’t been no.2 today so could be that of course.
Anyone doing fasting? Is it a good thing to do?

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 16/05/2025 11:30

Morning @alwaysscared There's lots online about fasting. I tried it but it wasn't for me - turns out I need breakfast. I think my eating window was 12pm-7pm when I did it.

Some people swear by it - it may suit you. Can't hurt to try!

MooBaggage · 16/05/2025 11:49

I've never tried it properly - I need too many coffees with sweetner and milk first thing (at least 3 before 11am!), so that probably scuppers a proper fast..!

OP posts:
NoisyMintCrab · 16/05/2025 12:00

I can 100% relate to the car park binges Moo. Big hug to you.

InfoSecInTheCity · 16/05/2025 12:04

I don’t do fasting for the same reason as @MooBaggage technically I don’t eat breakfast but I do have several coffees with milk and have zero intention of ever giving that up unless forced at pain of death. Never been a fan of eating in the morning though.

taylorswift1989 · 16/05/2025 12:08

I don't know how old you are @alwaysscared but the advice on fasting is definitely not based on peri menopausal or older women, and in fact it's not usually adapted for women at all. It's actually not advised for women to fast beyond around 12-14 hours (i.e. finish eating at say 6pm and don't eat again until breakfast). Stacy Sims is a scientist and women's health expert and her advice is that you probably need breakfast and it should be a high protein one. I recommend Stacy Sims stuff because she actually focuses on women and girls. Most health and fitness advice is based on male bodies, and we are different!

Arglefraster · 16/05/2025 12:31

I would call that time restricted eating @alwaysscared
I've done some fairly heavy duty fasting in the past (5days was my max but I did 2 or three days regularly) & it was the only way I previously lost weight at a decent rate but I think it totally trashed my metabolism & created some binging behaviour that was new to me.
I've eaten only lunch & dinner for years but reading /listening to Stacy Sim's science on women's metabolism etc has convinced me to eat breakfast so I started making a high protein smoothie every morning & my weight loss that was stalled restarted & has increased despite my total calorie count going up 🤷‍♀️

Really I think it's all about experimenting to find what works for each of us because we're all different

Arglefraster · 16/05/2025 12:33

Ha! X Posted with @taylorswift1989(I wrote most of it ages ago then started child wrangling🙄)

Last day of hols here, making the most of the sun until my flight later on. It's been a dream 3 weeks and I will write a proper post when I am home. Been checking in and enjoying everyone's contributions, many of which has brought tears.
@alwaysscared Just popped on to say congratulations on your journey - you sound like you are back in the zone, which is great. I love fasting. It makes me feel fantastic, although I second what @taylorswift1989 says re the caveats for women, peri and menopause, etc for longer fasts. Read or listen to Jason Fung the obesity code. It's a good insight. Fasting gives me mental clarity, emotional health as well as the obvious physical benefits. The key (for me) is good fats and protein with no refined carbs, tonnes of vegetables...It becomes easy then to reduce your eating window to what suits your lifestyle and personal journey. MJ obviously gives you the edge.
Best of luck.

NewbieMJ · 16/05/2025 12:48

Yes agree with @Arglefraster - probably better described as time restricted eating, as I don't fast for longer periods. Usually about 18:6 for optimal benefits and steady weight loss.

alwaysscared · 16/05/2025 12:56

Thanks ladies. I’m 42 but had a full hysterectomy last year. I don’t know if that means I’m menopausal or post menopausal TBH!
I don’t drink coffee or tea, only water. Boring really but can’t handle caffeine, and my body doesn’t really like hot liquid for some reason.

MabelSpan · 16/05/2025 13:12

I also do time restricted eating. I have done it pretty much all my adult life just because I dont enjoy eating in the evening. I tend to finish eating between 16.00hrs and 18.00hrs and then wont eat or drink apart from water for about 14hrs. I also only eat twice a day.
I cant say it has ever helped me with weight loss, but I am certain it is the only reason I never became diabetic or even pre-diabetic, despite hitting 22st at my heaviest.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/05/2025 13:23

@alwaysscared a full hysterectomy meaning your ovaries have been removed too, then you are considered post menopausal regardless of your age because the removal of the ovaries stops estrogen abruptly and induces a surgical menopause.

If you kept your ovaries you wouldn't automatically be post menopause as your ovaries might still be producing hormones, but it will be harder to track without having periods so you would need hormone tests.

alwaysscared · 16/05/2025 13:45

@WeAllHaveWings they took it all, the whole kit and caboodle. So I am post menopausal, on HRT

dimples76 · 16/05/2025 15:12

I generally don't eat after 6pm now as I eat tea with my DC and don't snack in the evening since starting mounjaro. The evenings have always been an over-eating time for me. After juggling kids, commute, work etc all day once I got the kids to sleep it would be time for my treat (or several treats) as a reward. I think that change in.particukar has made a big difference to me.

My BMI has also made it below 40 for the first time in many years and I am about 1 kilo off losing 20 kilos (SW 129kg, CW 110kg). Feeling excited about that and hoping that I can lose another kilo by the end of the month.

RainbowConnection1 · 17/05/2025 10:32

Its so good to be able to read everyone’s stories and share your highs and lows.

Today was weigh in day for me:
SW: 18st 10
CW: 17st 3
TW: 11st

I’ve lost 4lbs this week (1.5 stone total) and am a bit stunned! I’m also having to retire some work trousers as they’re too big now and I can fit into clothes I’ve not been able to wear in ages. Stepping up to 5mg was definitely the way to go!

Snozzlemaid · 17/05/2025 10:35

I’ve been following this thread even though I couldn’t take MJ for a while. You’re all doing brilliantly, so good to read all the positivity.

I’m expecting delivery today of my first pen after my brain haemorrhage two months ago. Neurologist happy for me to restart so I ordered a 2.5 pen straight away and can’t wait to start again.
I was 12st 5lbs before I got ill and I’m now 13st 4lbs.
The food noise had been awful since the last dose left my system and being unwell for a good few weeks I’ve not had the willpower to restrict my eating.
But I’m ready to get back on it now with my MJ friend 😃
I was really hoping to reach my goal of a healthy BMI within a year of starting but not thinking about that now.

My weight this time last year before I started was 18st 6lbs so I know I’ve come a long way since then.

Being off MJ has reinforced my thought that I will probably need to be on this long term. But I was happy that I still had reduced food noise when I only had a very low amount in my system. I was watching the level go down on my Shotsy app when I couldn’t take it.

Can’t wait to jab later hopefully.

Darlinghag · 17/05/2025 10:37

Hello everyone, happy Saturday.

This week I have lost .4lb. Bringing me to 14st 2. Honestly, its a surprise to me that its not a gain. I have really had the toughest work week ever, and have not tracked at all and while I have not over eaten in volume, my choices have been poor. Which is unheard of me - I have had single days, or a weekend, but not an entire week.

The stress has done a number on me, my period is late, which makes me feel rubbish, my suppression has been poor, which I can attribute this week solely down to the period delay, poor choices, not cooking meals and snacking instead.

The only upside has been my fluids have been decent enough but I am just exhausted. The worst of the work stress should be done by Tuesday thankfully, and in a week I go away. I’m actually mostly looking forward to the coming home from the trip - as sad as that sounds!! I have about 5 days off work between then and starting back and I just cannot wait to sit around!!

sorry for this massive moan but I am just done in. i also haven’t been able to catch up with the thread but I will try to do so. I hope everyone is well.

Zebracat · 17/05/2025 12:38

Good morning. It’s my weigh day today, and I have now lost 6.1 kilos in 3 weeks. I was joking about a stone in 3 weeks as an example of my unrealistic expectations and I’ve only gone and done it. I am so thrilled. Best result of the week though was Tai chi. I went for the 1st time on Wednesday, didn’t really like it, but somehow it has cured my mobility issue. I know that sounds weird, but I have been unable to walk without really severe pain for years. Now I can, I can even run and twist to play with my dog. Miracles occurring left and right. Perhaps I should buy a lottery ticket too!

Mounjaronewbie25 · 17/05/2025 12:52

Well done to everyone, whether celebrating losses or still just being here on the journey! 💗

Lovely sunny day and I am working! Might take my laptop outdoors!

Arglefraster · 17/05/2025 13:51

I'm tantalisingly close to 4st gone so celebrating 25kg in the meantime 😃

@WeAllHaveWingsI think the least you deserve is a nice view while you work!

Wow @Mounjaronewbie25that's a real milestone 🎉

@Zebracatmaybe the anti inflammatory effect of the MJ too? Wonderful either way!

@DarlinghagI'm sorry it's a horrid week. I can totally understand looking forward to coming home from holiday! I'm always like that 😂

@Snozzlemaidgosh 2 months sounds like nothing recovery wise, amazing progress. Hope the MJ settles the food noise quickly

@RainbowConnection1smaller trousers must feel great! I'm finding my old/current trousers annoyingly loose but the smaller pair are just not quite comfortable for a full day...yet.

NicPapr25 · 17/05/2025 14:00

Hi, I started taking MJ 5 weeks ago, I have been following the thread and have been inspired by everyone’s amazing successes, and the support when having a bad day. I am thrilled that I have now lost my first 10kg, my clothes feel better, haven’t had swollen ankles, and really have not missed eating with MJ.
started 117kgs
target 85ks
today 106.5kgs whoopee!
