Definitely an emotional hunger person here too. Mounjaro has really helped with this, but not cut it out completely.

QueenOfHiraeth · 14/05/2025 23:58

@alltablenochairs @Ditsy79 It's odd that is the only one I can completely rule out! I never understood at SW or WW when they talked about emotional eating and asked do you eat when you are upset, bored, etc as my eating is just there all the time!
It makes sense that MJ might not completely control emotional eating

InfoSecInTheCity · 15/05/2025 06:54

It was my Dads birthday yesterday so we went to Frankie & Bennys for dinner, I was a bit concerned I wouldn’t be able to find anything I would want to eat but ended up getting a starter and side combo which was delicious and came in at under 600 calories. Absolutely knackered 5hough, why does everything always happen at once, there have been so many school holidays, birthdays, special events at school… I feel like I’m constantly catching up.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 15/05/2025 08:41

Really interesting @QueenOfHiraeth - I am definitely either 1 or 2. Gut has always been on the slow side, so definitely not that.

Deflated this week - have not lost at all. Same weight as starting. Not sure what I have done wrong, have been counting calories with the NHS app but its not the best so maybe will find a better app so I know I am getting the calories right. Any suggestions?

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 15/05/2025 10:12

@Hotflushesandchilblains Nutracheck is excellent for calorie counting. It will also break down how much protein and fibre you're getting. You do have to pay for the better version but its well worth it.

How many calories are you on? what is a days eating like?

How much water/drink are you having a day?

alwaysscared · 15/05/2025 10:17

I’ve lost 2lbs! I repeat, lost 2lbs! And that is from my lightest weight. 5lbs lighter than I was this time last week!! 😊😊

alwaysscared · 15/05/2025 10:28

Thank you so much everyone that has helped me. I’m actually 5lbs lighter than I was 3 days when I put my details in Nutracheck!

taylorswift1989 · 15/05/2025 10:42

Well done @alwaysscared ! That's great news.

I'm struggling a bit since upping my MJ dose, first to 3.75 and now to 5mg as of yesterday. I am starting to feel very low and tired - a bit depressed, honestly, which isn't like me at all. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering about going back to 2.5 - I think maybe that's enough for me to lose weight and I didn't have too many side effects at that dosage.

I am also quitting caffeine and obviously not eating so many cards, so it could be more related to those things I guess. But I've definitely been feeling more irritable and joyless! I hope i don't have to come off MJ altogether - i guess we'll see what happens. Maybe I'll try backing down to a lower dose first.

InfoSecInTheCity · 15/05/2025 11:18

Oh you may have made one change too many @taylorswift1989 as a caffeine addict I can say that I really notice when I cut down, it makes me feel properly rotten so I think it’s likely to it could be having an effect, sugar affects me similarly. That first 10 days of a low carb diet woe betide any bugger who looks at me the wrong way, or the right way, or at all, why does that bugger even have their eyes open!! I am seriously a monster, feel sorry for my husband.

I find trying to do something different really lifts my mood, it doesn’t have to be a big expensive thing, take a walk round a new park, go sit next to the canal with a decaf coffee and feed the ducks, do a bit of window shopping for a future dress, have a searing hot bubble bath while everyone else is out of the house and luxuriate in the silence…..

Drinking at lot @CanIGoHomeNowPlease - had constipation so really upped water intake so peeing like a race horse - at least a couple of litres a day plus fruit tea, decaf coffee and vitamin water (zero calorie). Have been using the NHS calorie checker but the minimum it will let you set your calories is 1400. I will check out nutracheck - that's really helpful thank you.

Not a bad balance of protein, vegetable, no more than 2 pieces of fruit a day. Adding in prunes because of the constipation, and bought some gummies which were recommended online. But the calorie checker I am using is not the best, so obviously I need to do more.

Daily eating? Had a few weeks where I was nowhere near my limit, because I could not be bothered to eat at all. Trying to up this as have been very fatigued. I am also trying to phase out diet and processed food to get better nutrition.

Thanks for the tips though, some things to think about.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 15/05/2025 11:26

Why are MN hiding my messages until they are checked?

SilenceInside · 15/05/2025 11:41

@Hotflushesandchilblains there's an automatic process that hides posts if they contain words that are flagged in the system. One of which is a type of chewy sweet that is often used to contain medicine, vitamins or other substances. There are other trigger words too, so maybe your post has fallen foul of that automatic process?

MooBaggage · 15/05/2025 11:43

@alwaysscared Yay!!!!! That's just brilliant! You've battled on and not given up - really pleased for you 😍😍😍

MooBaggage · 15/05/2025 11:47

@taylorswift1989 I agree with @InfoSecInTheCity - it might be the caffeine withdrawal - it certainly would be with me and I'm very relieved that although MJ has cut out all cravings for sweets and rubbish, it hasn't impacted on my great love affair with coffee as I'm not sure I could function without it!

When I've been on diets in the past and reduced sugar dramatically, I've got very low and fed up - seems to be better on MJ, but it could be your body adjusting to all the changes and feeling a bit fed up that you're denying it all the lovely things it had got used to?

Having said all that, I found the jump from 2.5mg to 5mg really hard - I've tweaked dosages since then to try not to make me feel too ill and fed up - currently on 6mg on week 18/19, so if the jumps feel too big, maybe consider trying an intermediate dose by counting clicks.

OP posts:
taylorswift1989 · 15/05/2025 11:55

I went up to 5mg slowly, counting clicks out of the pen. But yes, agree @MooBaggage and @InfoSecInTheCity it might be the caffeine withdrawal or the low carb. I've just eaten half a chocolate bar I had in the fridge and feel a bit better already! Lol. Maybe I'll just keep an eye on it for now and if it's caffeine/carbs I think it should ease off within the next week or so. Thanks!

Hotflushesandchilblains · 15/05/2025 12:28

Thanks @SilenceInside I did not know that. But that makes sense. Thanks everyone for the tip about nutra tracker, I will check it now.

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 15/05/2025 12:30

How many weeks have you been on the jabs @Hotflushesandchilblains ?

Hotflushesandchilblains · 15/05/2025 13:49

This is my 6th jab, second at 5mg. I had an immediate decrease in appetite which has been great, have lost 3.7 kg so far and have really cut down on amounts I am eating and changed the type of food - instead of constant cravings for junk food, I just really cant be bothered with it.

I have had some occasional chocolate (easter egg for example) but I am not desperate for it.

I have been doing SW for years, lost 2.5 stone in the first year, then have spent 1.5 years edging back up. Its been a real relief to go shopping without thinking about not having this or that - I know they say you can eat whatever you like, but it just did not really translate to that for me.

I had a terrible time with low mood when I increased to 5mg. It was as if the joy had been sucked out of my life, I lost all emotions, I felt nothing, good or bad.
I dropped back to 3.75mg I think, then gradually increased to 4.25mg, low mood hit me again so I dropped back to 4mg.
After that I have only increased by two clicks/mls at a time and I seem to be doing ok, still no joy with anything, but a more even kind of flat as opposed to low.
I am now on 4.83mg or 58 clicks/mls. It will be my 40th week next week.

I hope you find a way that works for you and that your lowness lifts soon, it really is quite horrid.

taylorswift1989 · 15/05/2025 19:28

Thanks @MabelSpan I definitely think I'll go back down to 3.75 next week. Maybe even back to 2.5 after that. I was okay on 2.5 but obviously it's also the build up of MJ in my system.

It maybe isn't the MJ but it's definitely a strong candidate.

I hope you are able to manage your mood while still on MJ. It's such a big compromise to make. Really hope you're able to make it work Flowers

WeAllHaveWings · 15/05/2025 20:26

Went into work today for a meeting (usually WFH) rocking my new size 16 work trousers that I can now breath in, and new size 18 blouse. Some colleagues visiting from other parts of Europe I haven't seen since since I've lost a further 5st (7st in total). No one said anything which I was happy with.

We were in a meeting room on zoom camera (which I hate!) and I got a teams message from one of my colleagues in India who was over visiting us last year - "Wings you have lost the weight!" 😳😳😳

Thankfully it was before I was screen sharing! 🙈

Google tells me it is more culturally acceptable in India to comment on physical appearance factually than it is in UK and considered a well intentioned compliment - had no idea what to reply to him so just sent "😂"

(if anyone felt a temperature increase in Scotland, and possibly northern parts of England, today that was my blushing radiating from the meeting room 😳😂)

Arglefraster · 15/05/2025 20:48

Yay @alwaysscared🎉🎉🎉

So it was you making it so bloody hot today @WeAllHaveWings! 🤣 Thank goodness you weren't screen sharing 🙈 but kindly meant I'm sure!

Caffeine withdrawal sucks. I’ve done it both unintentionally & intentionally before & I’ve been miserable & ill with it every time - Thumping headaches , full body aches (like flu) & feeling generally ropey. You really need to come off caffeine gradually.

i do find it completely fascinating that the withdrawal headaches & all over body aches (feels like flu) is from the blood vessels in our body expanding back to normal size after being constricted by caffeine for so long.

Yeah I've done it several times - weirdly, this time I haven't had anything like the withdrawal symptoms I've had on every other occasion. A real 'take it or leave it' feeling and no headaches or flu feeling.

So I don't know. I feel a bit more like myself today but I know depression/anhedonia is an MJ side effect so I'm going to keep a close eye on it. It is a powerful medicine and I want to be mindful about it because being thin and miserable is not the goal here!

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 16/05/2025 09:18

@WeAllHaveWings seven stone loss overall is stonking, definitely sounds like a well-intentioned comment but a very matter of fact way of putting it 😄

I have dipped below 40 in the BMI range for the first time in probably five years. I still have four stone to go to be just overweight instead of obese, but I’m really pleased.

Nearly lost 10% of my starting weight, which was always a big milestone the times I’ve done WW and SW. I was less successful each time and still constantly thought about food. All that time obsessing over points and whatnot, and I always ended up heavier than ever in the long run.
