Thank you @VelociraptorsVelociRappingI really appreciate your kindness.
This app hates me - I had deleted the mortifying rant above but it kept it & it's just lost my reply to you that I just wrote!

Urgh I'm really bad a rewriting things...
I remember your friend! you talking about them when this was all very new was really reassuring, I'm so glad JAK inhibitors are working for them. From what I understand JAK inhibitors are a possibility for me from NHS but I'm really worried about the consequences of lowering my immune system JUST because I want my hair back (although my risk benefit analysis is changing as my reaction becomes more extreme than I imagined it could be..)
It's just such a long slog, hair grows so slowly - my 10 yr old has never cut her hair & it's shorter than I like my hair to be 🤷‍♀️ I need to accept I no longer have any control over it I suppose.
One of my major irrational fury things is that if I was a man I would still miss my hair but no one would even register a man in their 40s with close cropped patchy hair. And we're back to bonkers 😳

alltablenochairs · 30/05/2025 00:00

I'm around 103kg and I think I'm around an 18/20. I don't actually know my clothes size as the kind of clothes I buy come in XL, XXL type sizing. Irritatingly my fave cardigan is an XL and it's now getting a bit too big for me. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

@MooBaggage
At the risk or sounding totally TMI, if period pads aren't up to the job, try incontinence pads. Or incontinence pants (Aldi/lidl are surprisingly good) with the period pad inside.

Super mega TMI alert coming.
I used to hugely suffer until I went all..... scientific (for want of a better word) with things and presented my GP with 6 months of data. Heavy periods are absolutely awful so you have my every sympathy.

Arglefraster · 30/05/2025 00:05

Gosh you're all doing so well in tiny jeans! I'm still wearing my size 24/26 trousers & tops 😬
Everything is a bit sloshy & I'm mixing in the 22 tops but there's just not a radical change in size after losing 20kg I guess I just have far more to lose.

I'm sorry @MooBaggagethat sounds miserable fucking periods 🤬

Carolwithane · 30/05/2025 06:36

Just popping in, I don't post much but read along most days

Weighed yesterday and only 2lb down in 3 weeks, continuing the slow loss of 30 lbs since mid Jan

I'm 102kg and 5' 7" and firmly an 18 still tho i feel clothes are more comfortable and fit better I'm no where near moving down a size

I'd like to lose another 12lbs to take me to 3 stone by the time I go on holiday on 30th July. Been on 3.75 for 6 or 7 weeks might be time to move up to 5mg

Anyhoo thanks for all the inspiration and chat. Makes it so much easier to keep on keeping on. Luv to all ❤️

MooBaggage · 30/05/2025 07:58

Reasons to be cheerful:

Although I'm having a heavy period, I'm weighing the same as last week - so am hoping for a decent loss in the next week or so once my body starts behaving itself 🙄

I had the worst day at work yesterday that I've had for years (this week's been such a joy...). It was the first time I've cried at work for about a decade... But - although I did have 1 x glass of wine afterwards as I happened to be meeting friends, I didn't go to the shops on the way home and buy 3 bags of Haribo, like I would have in the past. I thought about it... but then just didn't 😮I also didn't have a huge gin at home, which would have been an absolute certainty pre-MJ.

So, am taking this week as a win. No weight loss, but have got through a bloody horrible week in tact, with no bingeing, no sweets or chocolate - and it's massage day today - hurrah! 😊

Week 22 check in...

SW 20st 5lbs
CW 16st 9lbs
TW 12st 7lbs
Total loss 55.4lbs/3st 13lbs/25.1kgs

Numbers still going in the right direction. I've not had a great week eating wise, I ate pasta 2 nights in a row as my oven went pop 2 weeks ago and there is only so much I can do on the hob! My walking and kettle bells have saved me though.
New oven coming 10 June and I can't wait!

I'm 2 doses into my 3rd 7.5mg pen and I'm not sure if its because my period is due or because the weather is a bit rubbish or other external factors but I don't feel its being very effective. I feel like I've had to use will power more often than not. You watch my period will start this weekend and it will be all ok!

I had to buy some size 24 jeans last year and that was my breaking point. I'm currently wearing size 20 jeans from Next. They are high waisted, cropped, wide leg with loads of stretch. These are the second pair I've bought as the 22s got too big. These are also feeling quite loose. They are the most comfortable jeans I've ever owned. I would always get out of jeans the moment I got home, I can wear these jeans all day.

I'm starting to run out of clothes as I hate everything I own.. I did buy a size 18 t-shirt from Vinted and it fitted so that was nice.

I have a dinner and dance event I'm going to next Friday and I really don't know what to wear. I can go with the theme of our table which is Bugsy Malone/1920s or can just wear a nice dress. Trouble is, I just don't know what size to order!

TwoBlueFish · 30/05/2025 09:27

I’m 1 week in, 2.5mg. -0.7kg (1.5lbs), very early days but pleased with that. Tracking my food on Nutracheck and trying really hard to resist snacking. Where I have snacked it’s been cherry tomatoes or a slice of wholemeal toast with a scraping of natural peanut butter.

But OMG the constipation, I had to resort to a laxative one day. I’m drinking loads of water, fibre is pretty good, fruit and veg etc. Anyone the same? Did it go away?

I have hypermobility syndrome and already have slow gut motility but the MJ seems to be making it so much worse. I’m going to try adding some prunes to my breakfast this week but if that doesn’t work then might have to add a regular stool softner.

AnneinEdinburgh · 30/05/2025 09:27

Having tripped over my wide legged size 16 Sainsburys jeans yesterday I am now officially squeezed into the size 14 version hooray! They are a little tight for comfort but the smug feeling outweighs that totally :-) I have only lost about 3lbs over the last 4 weeks but must have got smaller.

Happy Friday everyone!

I take psyllium husk and make sure I get plenty of water and that seems to keep things ticking along, added benefit that psyllium husk gives you soluble fibre in your diet and makes you feel full.

InfoSecInTheCity · 30/05/2025 09:49

@CanIGoHomeNowPlease some hob based food ideas

chicken fajitas - strips of chicken or steak, peppers, onion, fajita seasoning, then either serve with a lo-carb wrap or I often just chuck a load of mushrooms and green beans in the mix too and have it as a kind of warm fajita salad

Stir fry using loads of veg and bean sprouts instead of noodles

Bolognaise and then Pan fry up a couple of big portobello mushrooms with a bit of butter and garlic and serve the bolognaise on the mushrooms.

Omelette - heavy on onions, pepper, chilli and then sprinkled with a little hot sauce, or made with ham and mushrooms

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 30/05/2025 09:54

I'm also hyper mobile and suffered terribly with constipation since starting MJ. Unlike you I used to have IBS so would have been going 3/4 times a day before starting so this was very odd to me.

My breakfast is my go to bowel kick starter...

2 Kiwis eaten first, then a yoghurt bowl with 90gms of greek yog, splash of milk, 150gms of berries, 20g of milled flaxseed, 2 dates, collagen powder and creatin all whizzed in the nutra bullet with a magnesium citrate chaser. I then drink a good 8 pints of water/fluids (this includes rooibos tea and normal tea) a day. I aim for 30gms of fibre a day.

I do one good poop a day now which is good.

I did used to take psyllium husk - the holland and barrett tablet version, but they were a lot to get down so I've weaned myself off them.

GiveMeWordGames · 30/05/2025 10:06

I'm getting close to 2 stone down off a starting weight of 17st 4 and while current size 20 trousers and jeans are fitting much more comfortably, I've not dropped much off my waist yet and definitely not gone down a size. Like others I feel like I'm losing it off my upper body, face and neck more. Which is weird to me since I've always been top heavy.

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 30/05/2025 10:06

@InfoSecInTheCity - fab ideas thank you!

I hadn't even thought about putting the Bolognese on a bed of mushrooms. I've been having it on a jacket potato with loads of green veg on the side (last nights dinner)

NewbieMJ · 30/05/2025 10:23

@Arglefraster Your hair loss sounds really awful and you are completely right to be upset and angry about it. I hope you get to the bottom of what is wrong and a solution is possible.

@MooBaggage You poor thing, I fucking hate periods with a passion. I second incontinence pads - so much better than sanitary pads. Re hysteroscopy, there has been loads of pressure to ensure proper pain relief these days and the option of a general anaesthetic (which I opted for with my last one). It was a complete breeze and I was in and out in a few hours, and completely fine (I know you've had them before and likely dreading another one).
There is also (anecdotal) accounts of woman restarting periods after significant weight loss (and a number of woman being menopausal for some years, then suddenly having periods), so it is a thing but not necessarily an MJ thing. My understanding of it (and it is a very crude understanding, so might not be 100% correct) is that our fat cells have lots of oestrogen in them and when they shrink, they release this which triggers a period). It may well be your estriol.
My sympathies as I cannot wait to get to proper menopause. I am still having all the hormonal rubbish at 54, but not much in the way of actual blood loss, which is weird....but every time I get to the golden gate of 12 months, I usually have a proper period. Sigh

SW: 18 stone 11 (263 pounds)
CW: 14 stone 4 (200 pounds)

In a size 18 (down from a 22/24). My waist is a lot smaller, and top half of my body and legs/arms, but not so much my belly. I am 1 pound off Onederland!

TwoBlueFish · 30/05/2025 11:04

Thanks @CanIGoHomeNowPlease . I just checked my fibre and I’m averaging about 23g a day so will try to increase this week. I love kiwis but unfortunately I’m allergic to them ☹️

My current breakfast is greek yogurt, berries and a sprinkle of no sugar nut and fruit muesli on top. I’ll try adding the flaxseed to see if it helps.

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/05/2025 11:20

hob or no cook meals I enjoy:

Caesar salad - with cooked chicken slices (cook breasts and slice or buy precooked & sliced), light on the croutons.

Greek salad - tomatoes, cucumber, olives, red onion, peppers, feta cheese, add chicken (I ate this for lunch daily when I start MJ).

Steamed broccoli & mushrooms with

  • blue cheese melted into a bit of cream, & spring onions;
  • sauce made from tahini, soya sauce, water, chilli, add spring onions & sesame seeds

omelette with loads of veg - mushroom, peppers, onion, tomato etc.

dahl - so many versions out there, many with added vegetables like butternut squash.

Like @InfoSecInTheCity I will put meat sauce/chilli on top of mushrooms and/or broccoli, sweet potato, corgette "noodles".

Hotflushesandchilblains · 30/05/2025 11:38

Thanks @RobinEllacotStrike - I am trying to remember that, and also that I have a lot of levels to go in terms of increasing the medication.

@MooBaggage - I am so sorry this is happening. I had a lot of breakthrough bleeding on HRT until it settled down and it was miserable. Had very heavy periods all my life, to the point that I could change all my protection, go to my desk from the work bathroom and then have to go straight back and change again. Echo that incontinence pants may be a way to go. Hope it stops soon.

MacForCrac · 30/05/2025 11:42

Morning! I am just checking in:

SW 18stone 4lbs
CW 15stone 2lbs
Target weight 10stone
Dose 5mg

I am still plodding on, my side effects are finally reducing although Tuesdays (I jab on a Monday) are still a total wrote off feeling sick but the rest of the week is improving! Not moving up a dose any time soon (I started at the end of Jan) as the suppression is still really high for me.

ive been reading the chat about sizes with interest, I’m 5foot 1inch and I was in size 22 jeans, I’m now in size 20’s but they’re quite baggy on me, 18’s are still too tight. My friend at work is 5 foot, she started at 13 stone and she was in a size 20! At 13 stone I was a fine 14/16. It’s so interesting how we hold our weight and how it impacts on our size.

SqueakyDinosaur · 30/05/2025 14:23

I find the Merchant Gourmet pouches of lentils good for fibre. The French ones are gloopy and delicious and the Beluga and Puy ones are both great bases for salads.

taylorswift1989 · 30/05/2025 15:00

I like the asda good health packets of lentils. The green lentil mix is delicious and the bbq beans is also good. I can't have the others as they have gluten in them.

MooBaggage · 30/05/2025 16:06

Blooming heck - we're nearly full! I'll start another thread😃💪👌

Dried lentils cook very quickly and you don't need to soak them (like you have to soak dried beans).

Red lentils cook very quickly, but bigger lentils like puy (French green lentils) or green or brown lentils cook in about 20 minutes from dry.

So if you were wanting to try other lentils outside of the prepared ones (which are really convenient but very weird they have gluten) the dried lentils store well and are also super cheap.

I haven't had any puy lentils for a while and I love them so thanks for reminding me. I make a wicked lentil salad with loads of herbs, red onion, lemon juice, fennell/sugar snaps/whatever veg is available - my local veggie market is on tomorrow morning and they have a great herb selection so I will herb up and make the lentil salad for the weekend meal prep. thanks
