Aaarrrghhhhh!! I am so jealous!! 😃 I've just gone on about it (again) to the boyf, who has a garden - he wants to know about the weight limit, as at the moment, we probably carry about 470lbs between us 😯

Weight limit is 200 kgs.
Keep going!!

SilenceInside · 26/04/2025 18:24

@RobinEllacotStrike loving the hammock, may have to invest in one too, although I think I’d have to fight off my children to get a turn.

@WeAllHaveWings congratulations on your 7 stone loss! And being so close to your next target, hopefully this week or the next and you’ll hit it.

I am considering starting Couch to 5k next week, on a treadmill at home mostly. I dusted it off and have started doing some additional walking, and it occurred to me that I could have a look at the C25K plan and see if it was achievable. I think I can manage it, and I would like to participate in a ParkRun in the future. In my twenties I used to do 5k fun runs and the odd 10k one occasionally, and I am starting to feel like I want to do something like that again. Back in July last year I’d have not believed it if someone had told me that I’d be thinking of doing C25K in May!

Someone on the other thread I'm on (March starters) said that weight loss releases oestrogen, which could be part of the reason for the peri/menstrual side effects. I know that fat is metabolically active so I guess it makes sense that as it's released it can give you a surge of hormones... Maybe that's something I should find out more about because I have a LOT of fat to get rid of!

I agree obesity is such a head fuck - maybe especially when it's impacted on such a long period of time - for me, all my adult life.

I've been thinking about it all day today because I weighed this morning - I have never lost weight this well and consistently (36lbs in 14 weeks with no slip ups/bingeing/regretting etc.), but I still don't believe it's actually happening. I don't believe it's 'working', even though part of me knows it is. So it's not easy, but it is just happening - and my mind is just totally effed by this as it has had 40 years experience of it not working like this 🙄 Hopefully as the months go by it'll become more usual!

I also haven't even lost more than about what I've lost now in my life - and this is something I'm thinking about a lot - like it's almost impossible to get past the 40lb mark. Hopefully the next couple of months will prove me wrong!

All of the above I think is why it's a mental as well as physical 'disease' when you've got long term obesity. I like the thought of fat loss therapy - hadn't considered it before, but it actually sounds like a really good idea!

Thank you for this. I really identify with what you are saying. I'm very early in the journey but feel so similar

@SilenceInsideThanks!

”load of hacky nonsense” was my favourite line on MN today 🤣

Oh good idea to report to eBay @WeAllHaveWings , hopefully that will put our little "kit" visitor off returning here. And hopefully MN have banned the user too.

Zebracat · 26/04/2025 20:18

Hello all. I started today. Felt absolutely no difference , although I have just realised I have a really dry mouth, so I’m gonna have a big drink. I’ve kept to about 1200 calories, not sure why I picked that number. I’ve stayed busy , started with a 7am swim
So inspiring to read your stories, and thoughts on weight loss. I lost about 40 pounds in 2017. Felt so bad that instead of cracking on, I put it all back. But I took on a desperately underweight and unhappy teenager in January 2018 and we needed to provide and share high calorie foods, puddings and snacks to help her. And we did. So maybe that was ok. But, it’s been 7 years, so it’s certainly not premature to have another go!

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/04/2025 20:35

@Zebracatcalculate your TDEE using an online calculator, deduct 500 from that number and that should be your calorie goal. You don’t want to go too low, you need to establish habits that you can maintain post weight loss, you also need to eat enough calories to let your body function well. Too low and you’ll be tired, lose muscle and just generally feel rubbish.

Zebracat · 26/04/2025 20:57

@InfoSecInTheCity . Thank you. I did that. It says 1900 calories a day. That does seem quite a lot? I’m not very good at sums so my calculations about calories seem to be finding some kind of match on MFP. Obviously this hasn’t been working great for me so far, so I thought if I set it a bit low, I’d probably be chucking in another 500 completely unawares.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 26/04/2025 21:52

So, today I have the eggy burps - any tips to manage? I was feeling quite good, but gained half a kg between Thursday and this morning! Very disappointed, as I have really cut down on what I eat. I have to get to grips with an eating and exercise plan.

Pepto-Bismol. It tastes like Deep Heat but is the most amazingly effective stuff! I have developed a strange love for it Grin

Haha peptide-bishop (thanks autocucumber!!) is indeed amazing stuff!

I've only had the sulphur burps on one day & it was also the only day I didn't begin with 2 pints of water so my suggestion is always to drink more water!

My NSV this week is I've noticed that all my tops are really long in the arm & my V-necks seem to slip off my shoulder or plunge too far 🙈 it's taken me a while to realise this is because I am possibly wearing tops that are simply too big for me now 😃 obviously I won't actually swap to smaller tops as I am too wary of any wardrobe change🤦🏻‍♀️

Zebracat · 26/04/2025 22:49

I’ve been thinking about calories some more. It has helped me to have an awareness of them, but really, I know how to eat properly, even if I’m not great at tracking it, just got used to eating too much. Today I had Bircher muesli for breakfast, veggie/ chickpea curry (small)with a tortilla for lunch and salad nicoise( massive) for tea. I’ve had 10 grapes and a small piece of chocolate this evening. Drank lots of water. I think that’s ok.

SilenceInside · 26/04/2025 22:51

I measured my waist today, as I am trying to figure out what size I might be. The previous measurement I had was from October, after starting on Mounjaro at the beginning of July. I’d already lost a decent chunk of weight by then, but my waist was 123cm at that point. Today it is 103cm, so I’ve lost 20cm off my waist.

It’s still too big though, and is not in proportion to the rest of me. My bust and hips are in size 18 territory, but my waist is still in size 20 territory. And apparently it needs to be down to 88.9cm or less to be healthy. So at least 14cm still needs to come off, which seems a bit daunting.

Just wondering what everyone’s waist measurement is compared to their current weight and dress size?

Zebracat · 26/04/2025 22:54

Sorry pressed send too soon. This is day 1 for me, so obviously many of you will know what the optimal amount of food is for an obese woman looking to lose weight without getting side effects. Does todays food sound ok?

alltablenochairs · 26/04/2025 22:56

@Hotflushesandchilblains my go to when I got the sulphur burps was peppermint capsules from Holland and Barrett. Just don't make the mistake I made and bite into one.

For any of you who have a salicylate/aspirin allergy. Be very, very careful of pesto-bismol (thanks, autocarrot). It contains salicylates. Thankfully I had the foresight to read the label first. Otherwise I would have just quaffed it from the bottle like I do with gaviscon.

MooBaggage · 26/04/2025 22:58

Weirdly, I measured myself today too, to check re: sizes! I haven't had a tape measure anywhere near me since my Mum was measuring me for school costumes 😃

I didn't measure myself before starting MJ, so I only have today's measurements - my waist is 118cm 🙄. I've lost tons of weight around my waist in particular so it must have been HUGE before...! But I'm definitely in a size 20 bottoms - even fitted M&S work trousers with no elastic now fit (although I was v glad to get them off at the end of the day this week!) 😃

My bust and hips are still around 132cm 🙄😳

OP posts:
Zebracat · 26/04/2025 22:58

My waist was measured today at 47 inches, so about 120 cms. Im a size 20 in normal trousers and a 16 in pull-ups, my hips are way less than my waist, generally a size 14 in knickers.

alltablenochairs · 26/04/2025 23:02

@Zebracat. I don't calorie count. Mainly because in the past it has been enough for me to end up in a few dark places I don't want to be. Instead I just take thibgs in moderation. In my experience of MJ (started early October), if I eat too much/the wrong thing/something outrageously fatty then I find out pretty quickly, usually in a fairly miserable manner. I find that MJ makes me utterly indifferent to food. Yeah, I could eat a whole pack of crumpets thickly sliced with real butter however I actually cba- that's the kind of thinking I get from MJ. However what works for some people may be absolutely the wrong thing for others. You'll find your mojo and what works for you!

SilenceInside · 26/04/2025 23:06

I don’t understand women’s clothes sizes…. I was looking on the Unfolded website and their size guide for a dress I was interested in has a size 22 as a waist of 102cm. But I don’t feel like I’m a size 22…?

alltablenochairs · 26/04/2025 23:10

As for body sizes, I know that my bum used to be between 18 inches across seated*. That's probably a bit big now though so I could do with remeasuring.

I'm wearing XL clothing at the moment. Last weekend I found a pair of trousers from last summer. They were 5XL and too tight for me. I tried them on this weekend and the damn things fell right down. DH laughed at me and started quoting nonsense about 'wrong trousrs' from Wallace and Gromit.

*fun fact. Wheelchair seats and cushions are usually measured in inches. You get asked surprisingly often what your seat size is (mine is 18x17 fwiw). What they really mean is 'how big is your bum' but it's somewhat frowned upon to ask it in that way!

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/04/2025 23:15

When I first started out I weighed and measured myself weekly but recently I decided to weigh when I felt like it and measure monthly as the changes are slow now
My last waist measurement was 101cm so maybe about 100 now if I am lucky
I m generally buying size 18 bottoms but it can go either way
I do have to say that I always had an hourglass figure (even if it was sometimes a rather large hourglass!) but, since, menopause, my middle has definitely thickened and I am rather more shaped like a butternut squash 😭

InfoSecInTheCity · 27/04/2025 05:59

I do not do measurements and have definitely found that clothes sizes are basically just a random stab in the dark. I’ve stood in Primark and M&S holding up 3 pairs of trousers from the same company with waistbands that are very clearly several inches different in size.

you inspired me to measure myself this morning though, found an old spreadsheet from 2020 and across bust, waists hips, thighs and upper arms I’ve lost 50 inches since then. 10 inches down on my waist alone.

MooBaggage · 27/04/2025 07:47

That's incredible! I bloody love this thread - I would never have admitted my measurements anywhere else and I would never have got genuine faith that things will change, from learning from others on here. 😍

I’d like to join! Back in Oct 2023 I started on the Fast 800 diet and lost 21lbs in about 3 months, but since then I was gaining and losing the same 7lbs for about a year, so I decided that I had to try something different so started on Mounjaro in Feb. I’ve been posting on the Feb 25 starters thread, but think I may be in a minority over there, having around 5st to lose.
I’m 57 years old, and really want to get strong and healthy before I get to my 60s, so am in this for the long haul.
My heaviest weight was 16st 6lbs, starting weight on Mounjaro was 15st 3lbs and I currently weigh 14st 1lb. I’m aiming to be around 10st, which will be at the top end of my healthy weight range.
I’m currently at week 12, day 2. I stuck with 5mg for my 3rd pen, which I think was a mistake, as the food noise is definitely creeping back. I’ll be on 7.5mg for my next pen
