How does the pen stop you using a new needle (like the ones provided) and taking a fifth dose if there's enough solution left?

Tocktik · 25/04/2025 16:37

TheNinthLock · 25/04/2025 12:08

I have bought the Luer Lock syringes and small, superthin needles to inject (33G 4mm)
But I didn't buy any needles to draw up the liquid. Which ones do you recommend? Thanks :)

It doesn’t really matter which you use to draw up, it’s literally just to pull the liquid out but I use the blue unisharp needles
pic of both, blue to draw up, yellow to inject (yellow needle tip is same size as used for insulin injections so fine for injecting subcut into stomach/fatty areas)

@fox919 Sorry to scare you! It wouldn't go into the skin when I applied the minimal pressure that you need with the pen. It did take a bit more pressure, and it did work; I wouldn't say it hurt - it was more of a panic about wasting a dose and what was I going to do!

If you’re not a needle phobe youll be fine, it will hurt a bit more but it will go in, just need a bit more of a push.
if you’re nervous of needles I’d say to do the separate needle to draw up and then inject with a new needle tip

Tocktik · 25/04/2025 16:39

Sorry just realised I’ve tagged wrong person.
@fox919 read above !

Doidontimmm · 25/04/2025 16:54

Just injected the golden dose, no issue at all. Longer need but didn’t hurt at all. Very easy. Just to give reassurance to those a bit nervous!

If you’ve got tons of the little needles you can draw the solution up with them rather than buying a separate type - I did it this morning and it was fine. I actually injected and drew up with the same needle - it was marginally more painful than the pen but neither here nor there really!

Joining the thread.

I started a few weeks ago
week 1: 2.5 dose
week 2: 2.5 dose
week 3: 5 dose
week 4 5 dose

I’ve felt a bit sick twice in the whole month but only for an hour or so each time and no other bad side effects.

I was on holiday for the first 2.5 weeks and definitely felt I ate less. I was hoping for a lot better suppression when upping the dose. I am definitely suppressed and eating less than I was but I still feel I’m eating too much. I haven’t been calorie counting as just wanted to use the jab and eat when hungry/ make better choices naturally but maybe I will need to start calorie counting as well.

I’m so worried I won’t have lost anything when I weigh in again on Thursday next week. I just feel like I’ve been eating so much and am as big as ever so think I have actually gained after losing in the first two weeks.

I need to research where I am going to get next pens from as for my first ones in Australia on holiday so will now need to get sorted over here, I’m hoping that won’t be too difficult.

I haven’t read back on the entire thread yet so will do that and might find an answer but wondering what needle people are buying to get the golden dose out. No why doesn’t the pen let you do it if it’s in there?

hope everyone is plodding along okay.

Gotmyfingerstighycrossed · 25/04/2025 17:22

Hi all,

i’m 5 days in to my second dose ever (so 2.5). The food noise comes back a bit mid day 4, but it’s okay. The other days I’m reminding myself to eat once a day, and tend to forget the rest of the time as I have a super busy life. I’m a self-employed (read, super stressed on that front!) single parent to a wonderful and active little toddler.

I’m definitely eating a LOT less, I’m maintaining my activity levels (I normally do 12,000 to 16,000 steps a day or 24k+ on a big day), and do weights etc at the gym x3 per week. My toddler has allergies and so we are a vegan (plus eggs) household. I normally eat low fat (my toddler doesn’t of course) and gluten free (I became intolerant in later adulthood), with very little ultra- processed food, but the snacking for energy and because my toddler was eating and the incessant food noise was really full-on prior to starting mounjaro.

I have hypothyroidism and my most recent numbers were in the red so I’m waiting for a GP call in 2 weeks to discuss that (upping the levothyroxine I guess) - just as well I eventually pursued the results as they hadn’t yet thought to contact me.

I’m tired all the time!

My main worry is that 2 weeks in to Mounjaro I have seen ZERO change. It’s very dispiriting. I know it can happen, but it seems rare. The internet, & the studies, arevfull of people who had their biggest weight loss in the first month. I’m worried it may not work for me. More than worried.

Has anyone else on here experienced this and then it all went well and you lost the weight you wanted to? I know I have to do the work too, and I am, and will do more, but I could do with a bit more hope!

JMSA · 25/04/2025 17:23

Noisy, noisy food noise today!
I’m on week 4 of pen 1 (so 2.5) and I think the effect has pretty much worn off.
Roll on 5mg with better losses hopefully too.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 25/04/2025 17:35

@Gotmyfingerstighycrossed
i have Hypothyroidism too and if my thyroxine levels are not perfect I’ll not lose weight either. That’s the nature of the disease, it would not matter how much mounjaro you use or how many calories you consume. Sort out the medication ASAP and then you’ll see results

Thank you! Hope so.
I’m going to call on Monday and say I want to speak to a doctor sooner. Several other of the tests were in the red (I’m anaemic, my kidney disease seems to have gone up a stage etc) and nobody contacted me with the results. I had to go in and insist on getting them (no one answered the phone so I gave up & they don’t have a results line anymore). By the time I have my scheduled 5 min call at some point during the day more than 2 weeks from now, it will be well over a month since the blood test, and an extra month of feeling cr**.
I don’t want to waste an expensive month of mounjaro and effort either!
thank you for sharing!

I am wondering if this is whats happening to me. Lost loads in the first week (assume all water) and nothing in the 3 weeks since. I am hypothyroid but saw my GP today who said that a recent blood test showed that I was on the correct dose of levo.

But I am now on the urgent 2 week scan list as I have had heavy post meno bleeding this past week - I think its just the MJ blocking absorption of the progesterone in my HRT - rather than anything sinister so will need to find another way of taking the progesterone.

I want to know this too??

@NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy @Mounraine Each full dose is 60clicks of the pen plus 2- 4 extra allowed per dose for priming the needle. The pens are designed to have a finite number clicks and then it is impossible to click further; you can’t keep clicking enough to get the 5th dose out. I read somewhere you could force the screw bit round and the mechanism would break, allowing you to inject the remainder; but I have also read that the manufacturers have done something to stop you doing this now!

Tocktik · 25/04/2025 09:26

Also recommend prunes, I have 2/3 every morning, I get the big pack from Lidl, they last ages

I’m on 5 a day! I used to really suffer with constipation for years until I discovered them! All those years buying laxatives and stool softeners and old school is definitely the best!

If you’re not a needle phobe youll be fine, it will hurt a bit more but it will go in, just need a bit more of a push.

Thanks 😊 I wouldn’t say I’m a needle phobe.. I mean, I don’t particularly enjoy getting stuck with one, and I do get more nervous doing it myself because I worry about getting it wrong (I get slightly shaky hands when I jab myself), but I managed to inject clexane every day for 6 weeks post birth (twice) and haven’t had trouble with the kwikpen. But every time I’ve had to inject myself the needle’s been sharp, never had to worry about a blunted one!

I took my 3rd jab last night. Just ordered the 5mg syringe. Plan on using the golden dose after my 4th, thenI’ll start my new dose. Figure it might ease me in to the next level (plus, I’ve paid for it, lol).

My order has already been passed and Royal Mail emailed to say they are waiting to receive it. Didn’t even occur to me that subsequent orders would take no time to be delivered.

Well, I've just used one of these syringes for the bonus dose. All went well as I'd read you have to stab pretty hard, which is just as well as I faffed to start with and pierced the pen port twice, so it might have been a bit blunt - I'd say 2/10 for pain compared to 0/10 for the pen needle. Did end up stabbing my thumb putting the sodding cap back on afterwards as the needle pierced the cap! ... So, be careful.

Thanks, but what if you don’t take the full 60 clicks? Would you be able to get 5 jabs out? I just can’t figure out how the pen “knows”. I get that you might not be able to get the last 0.5mg dose out of a 2.5mg pen, but some people report getting 3.75mg!

Incognitoburrito88 · 25/04/2025 19:17

Exciting news if you’re me! I just went onto the Asda website to order my next pen. I use Asda because I need to do click and collect otherwise I would definitely be using a cheaper provider. Anyway my last pen was £170 so I was bracing myself to pay that again but actually it was only £129… I realise I could probably get it for close to £100 elsewhere but I do need the click and collect so I was pleased! I’ve decided to stay on 2.5 mg for another month as I’ve had major suppression today and just can’t imagine wanting to increase the effect. If things are really not going well I’ll take 3.75 out of my next pen and accept I’ll need to order a bit sooner but I’m hoping 2.5 continues to work.

I’m W4D2 and am struggling with constipation a bit. Since I started I’ve gone from every day to every 2-3 days which was fine as it wasn’t causing me any discomfort but now it’s getting to 4 days and it’s not great. Think I’ll be going to the chemist for stool softeners this morning, any recommendations for other things to try? Coffee usually does the trick but it’s had no effect 😬

For me, water, water and more water!!!! Plus espresso and movement (walking or swimming)

TC4 · 25/04/2025 19:38

Just getting my little girl to bed then 5mg here I come, we have had a busy day today so il probably be off to bed just after that anyway with a peppermint tea and hoping to wake up feeling all good tomorrow 🤞🏻🤞🏻

fox919 · 25/04/2025 14:34

Ah now I’m really worried about getting the bonus dose! I got syringes with the needle already attached.. any way to avoid blunting it/blunting it less?! I’ve already got them so don’t really want to waste them.. how bad was it with the blunt needle? Was it particularly painful or just required a bit more force?

I’m in the same position. I’m going to give it a try. If it doesn’t work, I’ll push it out into a container (carefully cleaned with an alcohol wipe) and suck it up in another syringe.

Has anyone here managed to to draw it up and inject with the same needle without a problem?

I had post MP bleeding twice (about 18 months apart) several years ago now. Scans both times. Tissue sample also taken the second time. Everything found to be healthy. No problems. The Gynaecologist said no reason was found, but it’s always important to get it checked.

No need to worry at this point.

TC4 · 25/04/2025 20:37

All done i actually managed to some how mess it up and drip some on the floor 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ so definitely didn’t get the full 5mg but will have been at least 3.75mg if not a bit more 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
