Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Can I join in please?
I had my first dose last night. Slept terribly but I think that was due to me anticipating tummy troubles or just sheer excitement at finally biting the bullet.
No side effects at all today and am happily avoiding snacks. The test will be when I get home from work. I have omelette and salad planned but there is a birthday cheesecake in the house too!
I am diagnosed diabetic and manage it with diet only, but I do love carbs. I also have high BP, fatty liver and a couple of auto-immune inflammatory conditions. And 4 stone to lose. I've done ALL the diets and the food noise has done for me every time. I'm so happy to be on this journey now with so many others in a similar boat.

Doidontimmm · 01/04/2025 17:54

I started on Friday and feeling a little despondent today. I feel nothing! No suppression, I feel hungry and am craving chocolate after a rubbish day at work.

Somehow though I fasted until 12 and have had under my allotted calories so maybe there is hope!

Bagpuss2022 · 01/04/2025 18:20

On my second day I took my first dose yesterday morning, I slept awfully last night awake till 5am then weird dreams,
my calories today are 903 I’m a big girl (24 stone) feel stuffed after dinner
good luck to all

Namerequired · 01/04/2025 18:29

1 week in and I lost 3lb. Delighted with that because it was slow to kick in for me. I also have taken my 1st period in 6mths! Not so happy about that. But hopefully I will weigh off more when it goes

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 01/04/2025 18:32

Hi, I took my first dose on Saturday so not technically April but I liked the look of the thread!

starting weight 12 stone, 11 pounds
goal weight 9ish

I’m only five foot so can’t carry much extra without having a big tummy. I was looking at old photos of myself and miss the weight I was. I’m just so hungry usually and didn’t know that was a side effect of menopause. I’m less hungry now and can control it better and feel fuller for longer.

Maybe it’s partly a placebo effect. I’ve prioritised myself and spent money so that is definitely factoring into the motivation!

Good afternoon all!

So glad to come back to a lot of comments.

It's day 4 for me on 2.5mg.

No side effects, and food noise has definitely decreased and I feel satisfied quicker which has really surprised me. I'm not eating like a bird yet - definitely not - but I really thought I might be a non-responder and that I was destined to be overweight. I know it sounds silly. In fact I got a bit emotional yesterday from gratefulness that something is actually happening. You know that feeling in the beginning when you try to start a diet/lose weight and it's super hard to find motivation, when you feel hungry and deprived all the time and any results are so far away still?

Now I actually have hope and motivation, I'm already eating less, never go hungry and somehow KNOW that I can do this. It's a really lovely feeling!

Ah i can relate to the emotions of this SO much! If (please God) this works for me I hope to be writing a similar post after I start on Sunday

Bonus dose?? Is this just what was left over after the 4 doses?? How did you k ow how much it was??

In each pen there are 4 doses plus a 'bonus' dose to ensure pens are not under filled with WL drug.

You take:
Day 1- dose 1
Day 7- dose 2
Day 14- dose 3
Day 21- dose 4
Day 28 - bonus dose.

The pen has 240 clicks, so 4 x 60 clicks (60 clicks is one dose). When you have used all 240 clicks you will notice there is still a lot of medicine left in the pen (the bonus dose) but the pen no longer clicks. There are 2 ways to get this bonus dose out. 1) Do a hard click and break the pen (however, when I did this the plunger would not plunge) 2) Extract it with an insulin needle through the red rubber part. I have always done this.

There are youtube videos that explains and shows better what to do. I use these needles:

A full dose is 0.6ml, so if you extract, say, 0.7ml you have just over a full dose.

Thank you for sharing - amazing! Did you get any loose skin? Take any vitamins/ supplements?

No loose skin as such. I am mid 50s so I am naturally getting saggier!

I take a hair/skin multi vitamin and biotin daily mainly for hair loss that I have suffered from for years.

RhaenysRocks · 01/04/2025 19:26

Stupid question but if I take my first dose today do I take the next on next Tuesday, so same day every week or the Monday, ie day 7 as pp above said? Thanks

QS90 · 01/04/2025 13:14

@hesdeadbenyoucanstopnow What an achievement, well done! Can I ask, if your skin is tightening up okay? Or is it at least manageable? I'm a bit apprehensive as to what's going to happen there.

Thanks @QS90my skin is doing quite well considering i’m in my 50’s. I’ve got bingo wings, but my stomach has improved recently, and my waist looks quite nice 😊

Skinni · 01/04/2025 19:41

About 36hrs in (took it yesterday morning). Noticed this afternoon that my tummy feels 'tight' - so not feeling hungry. I fasted until 3pm (20hrs) and will eat again shortly. No snacking. I have been thinking about food (testing myself?, preoccupied worried it wouldnt work?, self sabotage?) but importantly not had the impulse to act on it. My son offered me some carrot cake and I said 'no thanks' - by now the cake would be calling my name - only remembered this when started to write this.

I am relieved to have started - can afford for this to fail emotionally or physically.

Thank you for the clear explanation I will keep this in mind and will draw it out as well thank you

Thanks for the update!

That makes me feel hopeful. I've never worried about loose skin, because I've never thought it was possible to potentially lose enough for it to be an issue iyswim!

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 01/04/2025 20:50

@QS90i wore a bikini on holiday recently and wasn’t uncomfortable, so it’s definitely possible. I’m in size 12’s now from 18’s. There is a bit of toning to do, but think that is part of the maintenance piece for me, but I’m feeling quite comfortable in my own skin now, and even liked how I look in some photos taken recently. I just need to get some new bras as both back and cup size has changed

shrinkingthiswinter · 01/04/2025 20:54

Just popping in from the December thread to wish you all good luck and happy shrinking!

I’m down 18 kilos, BMI 35 to 29, UK size 18/20 to 14/16. Can’t believe it tbh.

What people are describing after first dose - feeling more satisfied with less food, less bothered about food, not wanting the cake/latte - that’s the effect.

I still feel hungry towards meal times but nowadays I eat at regular times so my body knows when it’s getting food and that’s it. I have breakfast including protein, lunch, Huel bar at 4pm, supper. So I never get too hungry and that helps me not overeat. Wherever possible I have lean protein plus vegetables. Chicken salad, skyr with seeds and fruit, chicken soup, vegetable and herb omelette, meat or tofu with roasted veg, prawn stir fry… I really enjoy food still, but am suddenly drawn to healthy choices.

Protein is important for feeling full and also maintaining muscle. Exercise is a really good idea for maintaining muscle and preventing regain in the long term, and also obviously looking and feeling better, including preventing wobbly skin.

Eating anything deep fried or melted cheese upsets my tummy. Otherwise only side effects are thirst and feeling cold.

It’s important to learn to listen to the feeling of fullness. I always liked to eat beyond it. Now I don’t, but I had to practise paying attention to it and stopping before I was over full.

Hope you are all some pounds off and starting to feel better by the end of the month!

50FootWave · 01/04/2025 21:02

Amazing updates, @HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow and @shrinkingthiswinter thank you so much.

You have both achieved so much, I'm so pleased for you!

I'm desperate to start, and am trying so hard not to wish away a much longed for holiday next week! But in 2 weeks time I'll be 48 hours in, and finally joining the April party.

shrinkingthiswinter · 01/04/2025 21:12

@50FootWave fwiw I started a week before I went on a long holiday traveling to several places in South America. I really enjoyed not being so hungry but eating the food I felt like. And I managed to get under 100kg before leaving which was a psychological boost for enjoying myself and being slightly comfier in plane seats.

wordywitch · 01/04/2025 21:54

My pen is arriving tomorrow (hurrah!) but it’s my daughter’s birthday and we have a meal and cake planned so I think I’ll start on Thursday. Looking forward to joining those who have started!

Mounraine · 01/04/2025 22:26

Are the pens the ones where you can see the needle or the ones with a plastic tube that you push on to the skin?

RhaenysRocks · 01/04/2025 22:31

Thank you for answering my dimbo question. First jab done just now. I feel like my heart is pounding but I think it's just adrenaline. Is it right there would have been a small drop of liquid left on the needle when I took it out? The clicker had gone back to zero so I think I had the full dose. Very quiet day at work tomorrow, only two lessons so hopefully easy to manage any issues should they arise.

RhaenysRocks · 01/04/2025 22:33

Never mind, just googled it and is fine. Right, hopefully going to sleep now!

Guitaryo · 01/04/2025 22:34

I've ordered mine just waiting for it to be prescribed and sent (fingers crossed)! I did actually do one dose a few months ago and didn't use the rest as I had a horrible experience, but I really want to give it another go. Hoping to lose around 20kg which would take me comfortably into my healthy weight.
