Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Keep an eye on your thyroid symptoms, I had to reduce my Levothyroxine dose as I was over medicated after starting on Mounjaro. It's been great for me, I've lost quickly when I really struggled to lose at all before 😊

Thank you, will do. Took my first dose this evening!

RhaenysRocks · 02/04/2025 06:51

Right, reporting in. Woke in the night with 3/4 stomach cramps like period pain but they passed and I woke with the alarm. Feel a tiny bit nauseous and not hungry this morning but think I'll make a smoothie to have at work. Wish me luck! Really excited to start.

wordywitch · 02/04/2025 07:35

Anyone know if it’s a bad idea to start while on your period?

wordywitch · 02/04/2025 07:36

Good luck to all those who started yesterday, fingers crossed for no or few side effects!

QS90 · 02/04/2025 07:44

Good morning all!

Started Friday afternoon, just got off the scales and am 4lb down! I know it's mainly water weight atm, but am still really pleasantly surprised. I'm mid-cycle, so if anything, should have gained a couple.

Still no side effects. I am bone-crushingly tired, but I've felt like that since becoming pregnant with my first, five years ago. Don't think it's the MJ.

Hope everything goes well for all of you today ☀️

Anyone know if it’s a bad idea to start while on your period?

If anything it might help with inflammation and cramps I would have thought?

So long as you're careful not to get dehydrated, which I'm sure you would anyway.

SurreyGirl69 · 02/04/2025 08:32

First pen should be arriving today! Already have dinner with friends in the diary for Saturday so although I am keen to get started, I'm very nervous of the side effects and how I might seem rude if I can't at anything!!
Good luck everyone !

Incognitoburrito88 · 02/04/2025 10:06

Hi everyone,

I’m just place marking. Just got the email from Asda to say I’ve been approved and my pen is ready to pick up tomorrow. I’ll get it on Friday morning first thing and plan to jab as soon as I can (toddler allowing!). We’re going on holiday for two weeks from Sunday so I’m planning to eat healthily focussing on protein and fruit and veg but not calorie count. I’m really hoping to see a difference on the scales when I get home. I’ve done Fast800 before so I know what I need to eat just need some help with willpower. I’ll then decide whether I need to formally count calories when I get back.

i’m loving hearing about everyone’s experiences so will be haunting this thread for updates. Good luck everyone.

MrsCastle · 02/04/2025 10:35

Good luck incognito!

50FootWave · 02/04/2025 10:37

Wow, @QS90 that's amazing! Got to help with motivation!

JMSA · 02/04/2025 10:40

Good luck to the new starters!
I’ll be taking my first dose after work today 🥳

Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer · 02/04/2025 12:03

Morning, hopping onto this thread, I posted on March but a lot of them are almost a month ahead so it feels sensible to be here.

I have just finished my first week, second dose this morning and I’m -7lbs. I’ve had a really good week, suppression was strong, side effects have been limited to when I’ve eaten spicy food which I will now avoid. My main issue has been getting balanced meals in as I’ve not been able to eat any volume of food so I’ve had a lot of protein yogs etc. hoping for more of the same this week, the decrease in my desire for a wine is also a massive plus for me.

TimeToGetThin · 02/04/2025 12:36

Thank you for starting this thread.

My Mounjaro pen is due to arrive today. I’m hoping for a miracle but also stressed out by reading that it doesn’t work for 15% of people and I tend to be unlucky…

Anyway, I’ve had enough of being fat for the last 10 years. I’ve never been “thin”, the lowest I could get down to was a size 12.

In the last 7 years my body has determinedly stuck at 15 stone 4lbs (214lbs/97kg). That is it’s set point. BMI is just under 35.

I wear anything from a UK 16 to 20.

My goal is to get below 10 stone. At this weight I will probably fit into size 10 as when I was 11 stone 4lbs 13 years ago after extreme exercise and dieting to be in a -1500kcal daily deficit, I could wear size 10. But I could not get below 11 stone 4lbs no matter what.

When I was office-based the “food noise” was incredible, but since I’ve had children and am a SAHM I don’t feel the need to eat my feelings although I do get sugar cravings. I think the problem now is I am metabolically very unhealthy, metabolism is shot and my hormones are all over the place.

I plan to stay on it at least 2 years after I get to my goal weight in order to ensure that the additional fat cells I created during my fat life stages are metabolised and destroyed, not just emptied out. I think this will help longer term maintenance.

I think the government guidelines of 2000 kcal per day for an adult female is totally bonkers. Realistically most women only need around 1200kcal. There’s a place in Japan where they all live to over 100 years and they mostly eat between 1000-1200kcal per day. I think the more you eat (volume and frequency), the more work your body has to do and it will wear out sooner (to crudely simpfly). Therefore I plan to incorporate fasts of 24-48 hours or longer to promote autophagy.

I’d love to go HAM on the weight loss but since I have gallstones I think I’ll have to aim for 2lbs per week. So to lose 74lbs that should take 37 weeks which will be 17th December 2025. Being thin for Christmas would be the best gift ever!

TimeToGetThin · 02/04/2025 12:41

Right, so as I was typing my life story above the pen arrived!

Does anyone know if the ice packs have melted to water (but still feel cold) whether this is a problem?

TimeToGetThin · 02/04/2025 12:45

Is anyone else with Pharmacy2U?

I wanted a “big name” and didn’t want to pay Boots/Asda prices and also didn’t want to go for an unknown pharmacy with only a couple of hundred Trustpilot reviews that may be run out of someone’s back bedroom (even some on Monj.co.uk give this vibe).

However, I couldn’t find info on whether Pharmacy2U support maintenance and how low of a BMI will they still prescribe for?

TimeToGetThin · 02/04/2025 12:49

RhaenysRocks · 26/03/2025 21:00

@diian that's a good way to think of it. If I add up what I've spent over the years on gym membership, boot camps, slim fast shakes, Noom subscriptions etc and am heavier than I've ever been, it's awful. I'm doing a short term one off job next month that will earn me about £800. I'm ring fencing that, or most of it, specifically for this use. Otherwise it will just disappear into the black hole of my finances. Im at the point now where I don't want to exercise because my feet hurt, I feel crap. If I can shift a decent amount I can maybe get back to swimming, walking, even running again.

Also I think I’ll save about £100 per month on snacks/treats/drinks/excess food so that will cover the bulk of each monthly pen.

However I do plan to eat lots of quality meat and fish with vegetables so that might cost more than I currently spend on good food.

Mounraine · 02/04/2025 12:52

@SurreyGirl69 mine is coming tomorrow and I’m out for lunch on Saturday too. I’ve checked the menu and going to swap my usual sandwich and chips for a salad.

As long as everything is really cold it will be fine

Wow, @QS90 that's amazing! Got to help with motivation!

Thank-you 😆The most motivating thing, is how easy it was. Rather than feeling like I've lost out to get there, it's been no bother, which makes me feel more confident I will be able to stick at it.

Ok thank you, yes everything still feels cold. I do worry about this going into summer months!

Another reason I didn’t want to go with an unknown pharmacy is I would be concerned about whether the pens had been stored at the correct temp.

Legaley · 02/04/2025 13:36

I had my first injection on Monday, I’ve got a very very long way to go 😔😔
SW 128kg GW 90kg

RhaenysRocks · 02/04/2025 13:39

Mine got left behind a bin so when I saw the delivery email I asked my dad to go round and pick it up and fridge it. It can stay out of the fridge for thirty days though. If you have privacy concerns you can just keep it in drawer.
So far today I've had: yellow fruit smoothie with flaxseed and ginger, 200g protein yoghurt and a lunch of chicken, 20g cheese, a few nuts, blueberries and cucumber. No interest in the toast that's always on offer at work or the cookies sitting on the table. Probably more chicken and spinach for tea.

Legaley · 02/04/2025 13:46

I see loads of recipes with spinach, kale courgettes and aubergine all of which I hate…

Summerbay23 · 02/04/2025 13:46

I've also ordered my first pen so watching with interest (especially for meal ideas or any vitamins to avoid side effects).

Did anyone order with Pillsorted? They seemed to get good reviews, I've uploaded my videos and am just wondering how long before you get approval?

Good luck everyone, fantastic to see the positive stories.

I have just changed my online pharmacy for mine and husband’s regular meds to pharmacy2U because the one I was using is closing. When I looked into other online pharmacies, I found that P2U is the original. The one who worked with the department of health years ago on the online model and other things. It’s a well respected, well established business. The weight loss drug bit is run separately to their regular online pharmacy, but it’s the same company.
