Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

This group is great but I’m mindful that it will move on quickly.
Does anyone know if any good Mounjaro Facebook groups, for success and idea sharing?

Not a Facebook group but the Mounjaro UK subreddit has lots of success stories, tips and tricks!

This was my journey taken from the July Starters thread. I did a further 5mg pen after reaching goal and took a 2.5mg dose each week to maintain (and lost a further 4lb).

My final 'Weigh-in Wednesday' as I am at a GOAL WEIGHT that feels right for me.

Starting weight 13st 4lb BMI 30 (June 28th)
2.5mg pen: 4 doses plus bonus dose of 3.3mg
Week 1: 12st 13 (-5lb)
Week 2: 12st 9 (-4lb)
Week 3: 12st 7 (-2lb)
Week 4: No weigh-in (on holiday) No MJ injection whilst away
Week 5: No weigh-in (on holiday)
Week 6: 12st 4 (-3lb)

5mg pen: (2 weeks of 3.75mg 45 clicks, now up to 5mg- no side effects)
Week 7: 12st 1 (-3lb)
Week 8: 11st 13 (-2lb)
Week 9: 11st 11 (-2lb)
Week 10: 11st 9.5 (-1.5lb)
Week 11: 11st 7.5 (-2lb) (bonus dose of 0.6ml =5mg)

7.5mg pen (1st week 6mg, 48 clicks - bad side effects, 2nd week 5mg 40 clicks- bad side effects, 3rd week no jab due to too many side effects, 4th week 2.5mg x 2 - took the doses 4 days apart, 5th week 5mg- side effects, 6th week 2.5mg x)
Week 12: 11st 5.5 (-2lb)
Week 13: 11st 2.75 (-2.75lb)
Week 14: 11st 1 (-1.75lb)
Week 15: 10st 13.75 (-1.25lb)
Week 16: 10st 12.5 (-1.25lb)
Week 17: 10st 10.5 (-2lb)
Week 18: 10st 8 (-2.5lb) GOAL

Total weight loss: 2 stone 10lb .
BMI 23.9.

Bonus dose?? Is this just what was left over after the 4 doses?? How did you k ow how much it was??

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 01/04/2025 11:10

@Autumnleaves4 I felt wrong, heart rate up by 20, felt jittery and heart racing. Had an extra blood test, agreed a dose change to reduce my Levothyroxine and now waiting for another blood test to check whether the new dose is right.

Apparently others have needed increased doses due to delayed absorption but for me it was almost immediate impact to speed up my metabolism

Most prescribers write to your Gp to let them know you're on it, so they may not be 100% surprised if you need a check in

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 01/04/2025 11:59

My journey has been similar to @diian and I'm looking at maintenance at the moment. It was surprisingly fast compared to standard healthy eating/diets.

I have changed eating habits to 2 meals a day. Focus on protein and nutrition but not cutting all treats out. I love chocolate coated almonds and they are a great occasional treat.

I'm exercising most days now, the first few weeks I felt a bit tired and didn't but from Xmas I exercised almost every day, about 30-40mins

I went up in slower steps as I felt strong suppression and didn't feel a need to move on to higher pens quickly.

SW 14 stone 3.8 BMI 32.2
CW 10 stone 12.4 BMI 24.6
23.7% body weight lost
TW 11 stone BMI 24.9

W1 -7lb 2.5mg. - 7
W2 -4.4lb 2.5mg. -11.4
W3 -2.4lb 2.5 mg. -13,8
W4 -3lb 2.5mg. -16.8
W5 -5lb 2.5mg. -21.8
W6 +0.2lb 2.5mg. -21.6
W7 -4lb 3.75mg. -25.6
W8 0 3.75mg. -25.6
W9 3.2 3.75mg -28.8
W10 2.4 3.75mg -31.4
W11 3.2 3.75mg -34.6
W12 4.2 5mg. -38.8
W13 1 5mg. -39.8
W14 2.2 5mg. -42
W15 0.8 5mg. -42.8
W16 4.6 5mg. -47.4

Average loss of 3lb per week
17% off my waist measurement

Skinni · 01/04/2025 12:14

I am 24hrs past 1st injection. Not aware of any side effects - but maybe they kick in later in the week.

I saw this on another thread - and thought it important to think of the longer term and also that at the end of the day you need to be in calorie deficit for results. I am planning to be very aware of my calories and use MJ as my will power in the longer term (months in when usual diets fail). Also I dont really want to forget to eat and just eat less rubbish. I want to take this time of reduced food noise / impulse to intentionally eat well. So my plan is to do IF, cut alcohol, healthy brunch, no snacks and healthy evening meal - no UPF.

personally I didn't experience much suppression on 2.5mg. My first month's weight loss came largely from a calorie controlled diet I started on day 1 of mj, willpower and a bit of placebo effect. I have stuck to a low calorie diet since, which obviously has been made a lot easier now the mj has kicked in (which started at 5mg and is now pretty good at 7.5mg). I have heard this is a familiar story from others - that the effects of mj are more noticeable from 7.5mg.

OpheliaABC · 01/04/2025 12:22

Good afternoon all!

So glad to come back to a lot of comments.

It's day 4 for me on 2.5mg.

No side effects, and food noise has definitely decreased and I feel satisfied quicker which has really surprised me. I'm not eating like a bird yet - definitely not - but I really thought I might be a non-responder and that I was destined to be overweight. I know it sounds silly. In fact I got a bit emotional yesterday from gratefulness that something is actually happening. You know that feeling in the beginning when you try to start a diet/lose weight and it's super hard to find motivation, when you feel hungry and deprived all the time and any results are so far away still?

Now I actually have hope and motivation, I'm already eating less, never go hungry and somehow KNOW that I can do this. It's a really lovely feeling!

@hesdeadbenyoucanstopnow What an achievement, well done! Can I ask, if your skin is tightening up okay? Or is it at least manageable? I'm a bit apprehensive as to what's going to happen there.

partyoffivvve · 01/04/2025 13:16

I am starting. Have ordered from med express and waiting for them to approve my photo. I haven’t actually weighed myself but guess I am about 17 stone which is horrendous for me. I have never been so big. I have always had a poor relationship with my weight. I can lose weight but only if I starve myself (fast 800 worked amazingly for me - I lost 4 stone very quickly then got pregnant and ended up back where I started!).

I have Pcos. what I am not clear on - does it work just because it suppresses appetite so you don’t eat as much (I.e if you stick to a calories controlled diet the result would be the same) or are there other benefits.

50FootWave · 01/04/2025 13:21

@OpheliaABC I'm so blooming happy for you. Thank you for such an honest update.

I have the same worries, but your post is really reassuring!

Hope everyone else is doing OK.

Cabinfever20 · 01/04/2025 13:23

@mjaronewbie I’ve been on Mounjaro since 2 January and have lost 1.5 stone. Apart from weeks 1 and 3 when I lost 4lb and 3lb it’s been between 1lb and 2lb per week which has felt about right. I get good suppression and fortunately no side effects apart from feeling cold at night. Regarding supplements - I take Ancient and Brave marine collagen which has made a difference to my hair loss. This has been a problem for the last couple of years. I’m 70 today and I guess it’s to do with my age. I put on another half stone by the end of last year, and finally decided I needed to take drastic action over my weight, which has been creeping up over the years. I also take multi vitamin and vitamin D tablets. I’m considering magnesium in an effort to help me sleep, but this has been an ongoing problem since I had a hysterectomy at 45. This medication is like a miracle to me and has taken away the little voice that popped up every evening to encourage me to snack “as I had been good all day”. I’ve got another 1.5/2 stone still to lose. Good luck all you new starters.

My before and after photos are on page 29 of this thread.

I now weigh 11lb less than the end photos.

Thank you for sharing - amazing! Did you get any loose skin? Take any vitamins/ supplements?

SaddlebagSal · 01/04/2025 13:39

Hello, may I join you?

Took the decision today to try WLI as the biggest thing I can do to improve my health is to lose weight. I’m 55, 5ft5 and 14 stone (196lb). BMI is 32. I’m very pear shaped (hence the username) and need size 20 to accommodate my lower half.

I’ve been overweight ever since puberty and this weight give or take half a stone for 25 years. I’ve got PCOS and insulin resistance and recently been told I’m pre-diabetic so it seems a no brainer to try this medication because it addresses those issues directly. GP says I’m not overweight enough for the NHS to treat me. It’s frustrating, but I get that the NHS has limited resources. I’m hoping that Mounjaro will pay for itself by stopping my Costa/ Starbucks habit.

Other than my weight, I’m generally ok health wise, but creeping awareness of my mortality thanks to menopause and caring for elderly parents. I’m also super unfit. Any medical appointment always ends with “your health is absolutely fine for a woman of your age, but you could do with bringing down your BMI and upping your exercise to stay that way”.

So, my target is 10 st (140lb), which brings me into the upper ranges of a healthy BMI. I’ve not been that weight since my teens. Intending to do this passively to start with, i.e. no active calorie counting and listening to my body on when/what to eat. DH and I have a reasonable diet in terms of nutrition etc but portion size and snacks/ chocolate are my downfall.

Let’s do this everyone!

Stepfordian · 01/04/2025 14:19

Mine is due to arrive today, I can’t decide whether to do it straightaway or wait until Wednesday night as I WFH on Thursday and Friday, in case of any side effects!

RhaenysRocks · 01/04/2025 15:25

Mine arrived today .despite instructions to the contrary it was left outside in the sun so I sent my folks round to put it in the fridge! I want to start tonight. Easy day at work tomorrow so easiest to cope with any side effects. Like a pp said, I intend to do very simple things, wholemeal bread, Weetabix or yoghurt for breakfast, salads and veg and protein for lunch and dinner

Wannabeslimmer · 01/04/2025 15:30

Hi everyone, I picked up my first pen today and plan on starting tomorrow morning. I have 5/6 stone to lose and am hoping this works. I’m a bit worried about side effects and am unsure what is best to eat. Are pasta and potatoes a no-no?!

@OpheliaABCyes I feel exactly the same, I’ve wanted this weight gone for years and now it’s like I know it’s going to happen and I don’t need to obsess over it anymore

MrsB2389 · 01/04/2025 15:34

I’m 24 hours in from taking my first dose. Happy to report absolutely no negative side effects. Food noise definitely reduced. I still feel hungry in the run up to meal times but not in a noisy tummy way. It’s difficult to explain. But I’ve managed to be sensible. And there’s no temptation for snacking/ extra portions yet. Hope this continues! I ended the day on about 1200 cals yesterday and felt absolutely fine on it, so that’s really positive.

Quick update - having coffee with daughter and her caramel Frappuccino with whipped cream couldn’t interest me any less. I still feel so full from brunch it actually makes me nauseous thinking about drinking one.

Unheard of for me. Woo hoo!

Hi all!
Ordered the jab last week, it’s been sat in the fridge since! Partner has planned a date night (food) Saturday so planning to start Sunday 6th!

Been toying with the idea for months and finally bitten the bullet! Terrified but excited. I am the biggest I have ever been at 16 st 7 due to an accident causing a back injury. Praying I can get down to 12 stone.

Where is best to inject?
Any vitamins I should invest in to minimise side effects?
Any good foods to start off with?

Wishing everyone well on the journey and so glad I found this forum!

It suppresses appetite so you lose weight, but actually this is a side effect. It stabilises your blood sugar, and can in theory reduce inflammation that way. Lots of women are starting to report improvements of pcos and endo, and it's been hypothesed that this is why.

The stabilisation of blood sugar, also means that disproportionately more fat comes from your midsection, which is obviously the most "dangerous" fat. So even people who don't lose much weight overall, can improve their waist to hip ratio.

It seems that lots of people (myself included), don't crave unhealthy foods, because you don't get that sugar crash feeling where you NEED BREAD NOW!! Which of course, should lead to benefits to skin, wallet etc.

There are the ones I know about, because they affect me. However some people upthread were saying that it improved their thyroid function too. There may be other benefits also, hopefully someone will be along to say, if so x

Skinni · 01/04/2025 17:00

Just been reading up on side effects - seems these are noted more when transitioning to the higher doses - sounds obvious.

Also for weight loss it workd alongside a calorie controlled diet and exercise - so its not a fat burner - the reduced appetite is a side effect which therefore might only kick in at higher doses.....so stick it out - but be sensible - its always ultimately about calories in calories out (even though satiety protien/sugar spikes are important).

It'd probably be fine, but if you're worried, what's one more day? If you're anything like me, you've been years trying different approaches to weight loss, and weeks or months before starting WLI. No point in making it into a stressful thing, when it should be positive x
