W7D2 (5mg)
Total change: -6.1kg
To 1st goal: 9.3kg

Hi everyone - been a while!

I'm joining the crew nervous about escalating dose! I've experienced no side effects on 5mg (unless you count the 2 styes in my eye, which I've read some people have had too even though it's not listed as a side effect in the SmPC!) and have had okay suppression.

I am naturally a if it ain't broke, don't fix it kinda person, but I've had somewhat of a weight loss stall over the past few weeks despite increasing exercise, with some loss of suppression overall.

I was thinking of staying on 5mg and increasing exercise even more instead of dose, but I changed my mind mid-order and ordered 7.5mg per my doc's advice.

I guess I can always go back and it's motivating to be only 9.3kg away from my 1st milestone goal to no longer be BMI obese!

I definitely can see a difference in my body and have felt lighter overall. So onwards and upwards :D

myladyjane · 02/03/2025 07:24

Urgh. Bad tummy. Up in the middle of the night for half an hour and felt really faint with it. I may have to get dh to take to football which he will be grumpy about as still not settled this morning.

Funny day yesterday. Lots of suppression but a bit of weird food noise - wanted some sweet stuff although found it easy to not actually have it. But previously I've not even wanted it....

So my question of the day is can you be too good? I haven't had an alcoholic drink, a cake/biscuit/sweets or many upfs since I started, even bread. All this is because I just don't want it. I do have something sweet for pudding every evening but it's fruit and yoghurt or a gut bar or something.

If I think of a time where I am at goal and want to come off (which I very well many not anyway) am I going through life never having a gin and tonic or a dessert? The drug seems to be teaching me abstinence not moderation.

Thoughts? BTW I think it's way too early for me to be playing with this. I think it's a discussion for me a lot later in the process but interested to hear what others think.

@MananaMananaPenelope I hope the earth moved

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 02/03/2025 07:30

@myladyjane I've been a bit similar to you. My last day of eating what I want and drinking was Jan 1st.
Since then I've not touched chocolate, crisps, biscuits, sweets, alcohol, fizzy drinks. I would include desserts, but really I haven't had one in years.
Although my daughter made me try her Pepsi max the other day. It tasted absolutely foul and I can't believe I was drinking one or 2 cans a day.
I also wonder what would happen after.

HeavyHeidi · 02/03/2025 07:38

Same here. I had a couple of drinks at a birthday party, but left half a glass. No interest in crisps, bread, pastries, chocolate, even ice cream. But genuinely because I don't want to eat them.
It's an interesting thought - does this mean for life? Had not really considered it. I guess as long as I genuinely do not fancy any, it does not seem like deprivation. It's not like before, when I looked at that creme brulee on dessert menu, salivating but thinking that ooh, it's at least 400 kcal, better not..

MananaMananaPenelope · 02/03/2025 07:43

myladyjane · 02/03/2025 07:26

@MananaMananaPenelope I hope the earth moved

😑 no developments @myladyjane . No developments at all.

How’s your stomach? Did the PB do the job?

I’ve hit my first stone mark this morning. I realise those numbers are ever moveable, but 6.4 kg lost.

MananaMananaPenelope · 02/03/2025 07:44

Oh sorry @myladyjane have just scrolled up. I hope it settles down.

emmsyg · 02/03/2025 07:49

Hi just checking in to the new thread, I wondered why I had no notifications 😂

I moved up to 3.75mg on Thursday, was starting to feel a little bit snacky towards the end of the last two weeks on 2.5 so think it was time.

Definitely eating less already this week, a touch of nausea and trapped wind but nothing too bad. Inching towards being 10st something which will feel like such a win for me because I haven’t seen that since before my first pregnancy 9 years ago.

SW 12st 7lb
CW 11st 2lb as of this morning
GW 9st 7lb

Therealmetherealme · 02/03/2025 07:51

@myladyjane i had a bad night too, dosed 5mg on Friday, my second dose of 5 and I knew when I ate last night it was going to be bad. I had a tiny bit of chicken (1/4 of a small thigh) and really felt stuffed. Over night nausea, very loud stomach and back pain, oh and the burps of course. I'm okay this morning. Hope your stomach settles down.

My dose day has shifted over the weeks, so I'm going to move back to dosing Thursday so on the Friday I can make sure I'm eating regular small meals and drinking lots of water. Hopefully that will help.

As for being too good, I've stoped snacking and 'treats' completely. I have to or it will be a slippery slope. Since 1st of January I've had a small twix (away at MIL) and 4 large chocolate buttons (not worth the calories). I've stopped eating between meals because I think that's where a lot of extra calories were being consumed and where my blood sugar was probably spiking causing me to feel tired. Everything in moderation is fine though I think, birthday coming up in the next month or so and I'll defiantly be having cake.

MananaMananaPenelope · 02/03/2025 07:54

I haven’t had a drink other than a couple of g&t s for about six months. I don’t miss it tbh. We’ve got about eight different teas on subscription and I have one of those when I sit down in the evening.

I have a few soft drinks on subscription that DCs love as well, from London Essence, ginger beer, rose and something, orange and fig or something similar. About 50cals, I have one of those two or three nights a week.

I’ve had a smidge of dark chocolate a couple of times a week. Last night I worked out that I could have a couple of poppadoms within my calorie allowance, I only had half of one, wasn’t bothered.

DGonMJ · 02/03/2025 07:56

I’m the same, haven’t had a drink, cake, pastry, crisps, chocolate since MJ. I’ve had two homemade peanut biscuits and they were nice. If I fancy a snack in between meals I tend to have some fruit. Or if it’s a hit of sugar I’ll have Medjool date and that’ll do it for me.

Went out to a dessert cafe with friends yesterday, and looked at the menu to see if I could order something small or something I could maybe have a bite of and then bring home for DC, just to participate. I just couldn’t force myself so I had a pot of tea while everyone ate. Luckily no one said anything.
Pre-MJ I would have felt so deprived making that decision, because I would have really wanted cake. But yesterday was more about talking myself out of the social pressure to eat cake just to fit in.

I drink tea, a lot of kombucha or also dark alcohol free beer - it's also really low in calories.

But yes eating out can be a challenge with people I don't want to discuss my weight loss with. Went out with colleagues to a pub where the only thing I could find on the menu was simple green salad. All others were tucking into massive deep fried wiener schnitzels and fries.

myladyjane · 02/03/2025 08:23

I do find it interesting. When I lost weight before and kept it off for 6 years, I was careful about logging my food still for quite a long time and would have treats but to a limit. That worked well. If we went to a coffee shop I'd have a small bit of cake but with a tea or if I had a milky drink it would be with a banana. I don't actually drink much at all but I'd have a fancy gin but only one. Never felt deprived.

So it was a case of making more sensible choices I guess - even now my curry order is actually loads of veggie stuff and prawns, rice or bread not both.

Just typing this out is helpful actually because it does help me see a way forward. It's not for now - now is helping me with bad habits and giving me a break.

I am baffled by the people who are still eating a lot of crap on this. If my guts are like this after one overly sugary drink, what on earth would they be like after pizza and ice cream!

YourMerryLemonWasp · 02/03/2025 08:23

morbidcuriosity · 01/03/2025 13:18

Quite possibly yeah. With half the rubbish over social media about how it's the lazy way etc, people probably think they can carry on eating crap and the weight will fall, and if diabetic nurses are not advising any different you would prob think that's the case..

I think for people who buy it, myself included we research and find out lots before hand, not just handed it and told use this to lose weight..

So true - I’m sure half the scare stories out there are because people think they can eat the same and the jab allows that but will make you lose weight 😂

millenialmolly · 02/03/2025 08:33

I think everyone's journey (hate to use that phrase 😂) is so personal.

For me, in the past when I've cut out all of the 'treaty' stuff it's been sustainable for a bit and then led to a massive binge down the line- usually after having a drink!

My diet hasn't changed massively whilst on MJ BUT I was eating quite well anyway with my meals. It was the snacks and sugar which were the problem, usually late afternoon and evening. I do feel that's the biggest thing MJ has helped me to conquer so far. I've still managed to have a glass wine or 2 at the weekend but now I'm not reaching for the crisps and rubbish!

Alcohol free beer is my pub drink of choice! Not sweet, sippable, usually only about 30-50 calories, no-one questions it. I’ve discovered since I gave up drinking last summer that I’m a massive over sharer anyway and can’t blame alcohol for running my mouth off at an after-work session!

MananaMananaPenelope · 02/03/2025 08:48

Me too, my local pub stocks this which is lovely if you haven't tried it, my preference above every thing else I've tried. I really dislike Becks AF - smells like farts to me and puts me off drinking it.

I'm not sure I've ever thought about the calories in it tbh, I don't go that often.

GrumpyMuleFan · 02/03/2025 08:53

Morning all. Sorry but haven’t checked in for a few days and need to catch up.

I’ve just finished week six and injecting 7th 2.5g today. I’ve lost 1.1lb this week and really chuffed as my cumulative loss is 13lb. I am so happy about that.

Had a long train journey and read through my daily log. Noticed some interesting things. Low mood tends to follow low food intake. Upping my carbs - esp things like sweet potato or butternut squash, really lifts me. Then I noticed that I loose weight after I eat a bit more and have less nausea (but that could be why I’m eating less??).

Another week of not getting enough exercise in. So, in an attempt at fresh start have bought a new programme aimed at protecting muscle loss in people doing WLI. It’s TRX based and it’s just arrived, so that’s first on my list for today. I will report back!

Jins · 02/03/2025 09:07

Yesterday Shotsy estimated my highest level of MJ so far at 6.29mg and it coincided with the first time I was unable to finish a meal. It was only a bowl of soup and a sandwich. I’m a clear the plate sort of gal so it came as quite a shock.

I haven’t found that I’ve gone off sweet things. I’ve found that I can stop after a sensible amount. I also haven’t reacted badly to sweet, rich or fatty things so far. I’m just eating much less overall and am learning what a portion should look like for me.

I realised today that if I continue at the same rate for the remaining two doses in this pen I will have a BMI of 25+. To go from 28.2 on Jan 10 to a ‘normal’ BMI in March is blowing my mind a bit

MananaMananaPenelope · 02/03/2025 09:23

That's fabulous @Jins , well done.

I haven't gone off anything I can think of and I always just wanted to eat my normal food, just reduce to two meals a day.

I might try shotsy, I haven't used it. I think I'm planning on sticking on 2.5mg whilever I am losing. Have you paid for the enhanced bit?

I’m very similar. I’m up to 7.5 and have very few side effects.

I’ve been able to eat anything I want but am just choosing to eat less of it and limit (but not eliminate) sweet treats and alcohol. My meals have always been pretty healthy anyway but my portion sizes have reduced and I’m not constantly thinking about the biscuits in the cupboard.

its also helping me to exercise (almost) like I used to because I feel so much better about myself.

I’m choosing to only weigh myself when I need to order a new pen as I don’t want to be a slave to the scales ever again but just feel good.

Jins · 02/03/2025 09:32

@MananaMananaPenelope no I haven’t paid to enhance Shotsy. I started off with a different app but as the weeks went on I was finding it harder to remember which week I was in so logging shots has really helped. They also show up as coloured dots on the results graph so it’s easier to see a pattern emerging.

I wish I could have stayed on 2.5mg. I’ve got a 7.5mg on the way but I might be better off staying with 5mg. Then again - Corfu in May. Dilemma 😆

myladyjane · 02/03/2025 09:33

@Jins I don't know if you can see them from back there but I am waving my POM POMS. Super well done

GrumpyMuleFan · 02/03/2025 09:41

@Jins that’s amazing and v motivating. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

LillethCrane · 02/03/2025 09:50

I had my first bad experience this morning since starting the jabs and it’s entirely my own fault! I went out with friends yesterday afternoon and a glass of Prosecco turned into many glasses… the pain! I had such bad pain in my stomach, I took myself home and to bed but I had horrendous heartburn that woke me in the night. This morning I had terrible stomach ache and spent a long time in the bathroom…

So now I know that I can no longer drink Prosecco! I won’t be tempted again after that experience.

Happy Sunday everyone, I’m going out to tackle the gardening, I think the fresh air will do me good.
