Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

@OneAzureMaker Oh I am pleased the side effects are reducing for you - you have really been through it. It sounds like you're coming out the other side. I hope the diarrhoea settles too. I think some of the changes have become "us" that we don't notice them. It really was only last night that I realised that this level of stress and change re:work in the past I would absolutely have been seeking quick/easy to eat food and yet I haven't really thought about that at all.

Yay for your weight loss - I think we started the same day. I'm checking in tomorrow and will ask for 5mg again. I think they seem quite happy to keep people on 5 if they want to. I'm not looking forwards to going up to 7.5 but aware my weight loss might be slowing a bit but definitely going to give it another month!

BruhWhy · 20/03/2025 10:24

Weigh-in day for me and a loss of 3lbs. Very happy I'm staying on the 5mg for now because it's very effective, I really want to go for 1.5-2lbs loss per week, need to keep an eye on my calories to make sure I'm eating enough.

That brings my total to 23lbs loss, 1st 9lbs or 10.4kg.

That's nearly 2 car tyres in weight! Insane! I feel so much better already, can't imagine how I'm going to feel in 4st time.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/03/2025 12:46

Wow 2 car tyres puts it in perspective doesn't it! Imagine carrying that. Well done 😊. I think my loss is similar and it's crazy thinking that!

I still have 9 stone to go so a good few more tyres. We will hopefully have so much more energy and ability to Do Thigns without carrying them!

I do a weird day today where I work morning and evening with a gap in between. So I've just parked and decided to go for a walk around a local park for an hour. It's a beautiful day and it truly is the MJ that's enabled me to do this (reduced inflammation presumably) and I'm so grateful. I weigh in tomorrow and it's looking like a sts for me but it's been a good week and I'm so happy I can walk.

Only one more week of this weird Thursday and life will be more predictable and manageable which will mean I'm a happier person!

Evening! I've had a crazy busy week at work and next week looks busy too - life has too many things at the moment but I'm quite relived I'm on MJ as I would definitely have given in with a diet with all this going on! I am also so envious of those with stable wfh jobs who can ride out the side effects. I am definitely considering where I want to go next workwise.

Thanks for the birthday wishes - I had hoped to get under 20 stone for it but I'm hovering just above it so I know it is in sight !

Fab as ever to read people's losses :) @BruhWhy completely agree with food having more flavour. I thought I'd lose the joy of eating but it's just changed. I'm not sure if thats mainly through eating UPF free or the MJ or both!

@Kaggi9 Yay for less side effects!!
@Earthgirl3971 Sounds awful :( I hope you are on the up now. I imagine it will take a while to recover from the exhaustion of it all even when it goes.
@FollyDear Yay for your mum joining! And less side effects! I'm finding the weight loss a bit unpredictable but I guess if the overall trend is down it is good!
@Humptyandhambel 2lb a week is ace but I know what you mean - I sometimes look at the FB group and there seems to be lots with huge losses. I'd genuinely be happy to maintain 2lb a week though. That's more than I've ever managed before

@SnowieBear how are you doing now? I got worse effects on my 2nd 5mg pen than the 1st and I completely wasn't expecting that. It's been much better now though (3rd jab, 3rd pen) so really hope yours are wearing off.

@kittykarate Wahoo for 10% That's amazing!! I'm going to be filling out my 3 dose 3 on Friday and will ask for 5mg again as I'd like to know I'm not getting the side effects before moving up!

@KoalaKoKo If your average is over 1kg a week I doubt they will move you up yet as that's above the amount they are looking for. . However who knows what they will do!!

@tinyemmy Still cheering for you here. I think you will be our first to "make it"!

@DearRaven Yay welcome!!

Fingers crossed for breaking through the 20st barrier soon!!

This morning I have a BMI of 25.1. I am very excited!!! I'm waiting for SheMed to confirm I can stay on 5mg for my 4th pen!. I can't believe it's almost a quarter of the way through the year!
I still have another stone to lose once healthy to bring me to 2020s weight. I am also pleased that I will get to stay on the medication for a year to cement new habits 🤞

I was actually wrong it's 1 car tyre, but still!! Those things are heavy! We were walking around with a whole car tyre strapped to our backs, no wonder we're finding it easier to get around 🥰

Reginaphalangeeeee · 20/03/2025 21:26

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden great to hear you are doing well. That sub 20 stone marker is on the horizon.
I keep switching between KG and Stone and actually missed that I got sub 20stone. My next big milestone is under 120KG which will get me under 19stone again.

A long way to go still but consistent loss and eating makes it feel manageable. Ofcourse counting the Kgs and Stones losses is great but some numbers stick in your head for big markers:
118kg my weight start of lock down
107kg weight 1st pregnancy 13 year ago
88kg weight when I got married

@OneAzureMakerwe are similar on loss.. I was on 15Kg loss at last weigh in. Have you measured too? It’s 14cms off my waist! Therefore I conclude about 1 cm per Kg. Hips and chest losses much less which I guess is a good thing.

great to read about everyone’s losses, it’s so encouraging. That utter 🥶seems worst day 1-3 post jab. I’m warming up again now day 4.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/03/2025 23:06

Wahooo @tinyemmy you've done so well. It must be amazing to be making it into "healthy" and yes great to be on a programme for a good while. I'm so pleased I signed up for a year. With my job instability currently I could have been tempted to cut down/ not go up doses but it's great to have that certainty. I'll need another year... But having a year under my belt will be amazing!

@BruhWhy 1 car tyre is still impressive! And yes I weigh as much as 2 people so realistically I'm carrying another adult around with me... When I think of when I used to carry a toddler and how exhausting that was no wonder I'm tired!

@Reginaphalangeeeee wahooo for being under 20! I weigh in kg too for lots of reasons but still have converted back for some goals. I think I've lost about 11kg so far. I've also got some weights in mind (pre covid, not being "morbid" anymore, pregnancy weight etc... But I'd really like not to be obese. Possibly will be just after this programme finished if I go at the same pace but I'm aware it can slow down!!

I randomly can't poop this evening but I need to. All those diarrhea sessions and now the other way. It's a strange beast.

I check in 3rd one of my second pen tomorrow! I think that means I've done 10 weeks so 1/5 of the way through which is bizarre to think about. It still feels "new" and still not really noticible weight loss yet as so much to go!

OP posts:
FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/03/2025 07:44

Checked in this morning. My shotsy graph is all over the place! Kind of surprised it isn't less over the last few weeks given that I've been eating so much less but it is on a downward line overall 😊. Another kg to go to under 20stone so maybe next week... (although I hoped that last week too!)

I've asked for 5mg again just as I'm titrating adhd meds as well and had horrible side effects earlier on on this pen. I'd like a clear month then would be happy to go up I think. Although I don't think I should be eating any less than I am.... So depends if going up a dose "just" benefits in terms of you eating less or if it does other magic inside.

I know a few check in today hope you're all good.

2kg off this week - I've obviously not been very bright! I've just realised that my phone weighs about 300g, so I now get on the scales weight for the number to 'set' and then show the number to Shemed - it explains a bit why weigh in day is always a bit more!!!

Anyway, a new stone barrier for me.

I began at 20st 8
Today 17st 13

So 114.2kg

Though on the whole I use kg as I find it a bit less confrontational!!

My BMI has gone from 44.9 to 38.6.

A long, long way still to go, but the journey has begun. I've requested to stay on 5mg for my next pen (pen 4).

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/03/2025 08:24

Wahooo 2kg is amazing! And you're not "morbid" anymore!! (Over 40bmi) which is one of my goals. You've lost so much (I do know it's been at high cost with the side effects!)

I hope this next pen is side effect free for us both 😊

I weigh in for shemed in light clothing and don't worry about phone weight as it's the same pj/phone each time. BUT I do have a separate renpho/shotsy record which is "naked weight"!

OP posts:
FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/03/2025 08:28

My bmi is currently 45.2 but I'm really hoping to get under 40 at the start (or soon after) of the summer holidays.

I really will be finishing this year where some people are starting but it will be amazing if I can sustain loss for a year and be just a few stone overweight rather than 10/11stone overweight!

I'm sure you will be! And it will be so worth it.

I weigh in with jeans and a top, so not the lightest clothing, but as long as the trend is downwards it's all that matters!

SnowieBear · 21/03/2025 08:52

Wow, what fab losses! Well done, everyone, we've got this!

Check in for me today too, I am now W8D1 and managed to lose 1.3kg last week - overall I have lost 10.4kg since I started and I am just over the halfway mark to my goal.

Not looking forward to the 5mg side effects this weekend, but needs must! Clothes feel comfortable again and I started wearing stuff I had "abandoned", it's like discovering a whole new wardrobe.

Good luck to all of you injecting today, here's for mild side effects and just the right level of suppression x

Today I weighed and my BMI is 24.9 I haven't been a healthy weight since 2021, but I have tried so hard and spent so much money just to get fatter. I love mj so much!!!
I still have a way to go to 2020s weight. I'd like to get to BMI 22/22.5 and then I look forward to exploring maintenance.
I'm currently eating very little - think FAST800 style eating so I definitely need to start upping my calories. It is hard on 5mg although I suspect it will start to wear off after a while. I've been approved for my third 5mg pen which I'm pleased about. I suspect I will never go higher than 5. I just hope I'm able to maintain on 5 as I have a feeling SheMed won't let me go down to 2.5 (I shall worry about that in a few months time when I get there)
I'm looking forward to continuing to watch everyone else's successes!

So I’ve started my 3rd pen this week. 5mg. I know I’m being impatient but it sometimes gets a little disheartening when I’m lucky if I lose 1lb a week. I’ve not hit 1 stone loss yet. I’m counting my calories and eating far less than I used to but I can definitely still eat and the suppression isn’t always there. Is anybody else in a similar position to me or am I in the minority with lots of others losing a lot more. Thankfully I don’t haven’t had much as in side effects other than a headache for some of the days, so maybe I should take that as a positive and not keep thinking I’d rather move up a dose. Interested to hear other people’s stories similar to mine.

Hi @Mazd323, my DH seems to also be losing slowly despite doing all the right things - only 100g on his second week on 5mg this week, he does find it demotivating and I work hard at reminding him the trend is down and he is losing without feeling deprived or fighting his urge to snack or over eat all the time.

We are all different in how we respond to the GLP1, but I can see a very significant difference in his body despite the small loses, I am sure that is also true for you.

Sending you a hug and encouragement, it's a journey and we will get there x

Congratulations, that’s amazing! You must feel incredible!

I’m also doing a similar type of diet to you so it seems, and it’s working really well! I took the final dose of my second pen today and recorded a 6lbs lost this week which is a big one! I did go away to London last weekend though and did rather a lot of walking, not to mention being daft enough to take the stairs at Covent Garden tube station. For those of you that don’t know, it’s the equivalent of 15 stories up to the top from the train!

Total lost so far: 2 stone 9lbs

Happy weekend everyone!

I have another 2 KG to lose to get under BMI 40 but so tantalisingly close now. You will be there soon too.
I felt like it was such a mammoth task it put me off for years to do anything. That idea that continuous and ongoing weight loss is possible with support on MJ has changed my outlook completely. For the first time I feel absolutely confident I will get there… and so will you!

Thanks for asking about me. It was the longest week of my life with flu turning into a chest infection. Ive had time off work as I've lost my voice and sense of taste and smell for a week. It's been hard. I'm two days late taking my injection as of today. I really needed to see if I was recovering ok without it on the antibiotics as the food suppression has been a quadruple whammy with all that I've eaten one grain of rice in a week it feels like. I've lost 4lbs in a week. !

Which was the only bonus to being I'll. Please for the love of yourself if you feel yourself coming down with a flu do not take your injection. I'll never do it again it's so rough! I thought I was gonna die! X

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 23/03/2025 10:42

Morning. I am soooo close to being under 20stone. I haven't managed to poop in a couple of days and actually think that will be it:) :)

@Reginaphalangeeeee So close! You've done amazingly!
@tinyemmy wahoooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Huge celebration!!! You made it!!! Be exciting to see where it goes and how maintenance goes when you get to the weight you want to get to.

@Earthgirl3971 That sounds truly awful. Are you on the way up? Did you get to speak to a shemed clinician and were they helpful? Hope the antibiotics did their thing.

Yay for all the losses however big or small. Like pp I am curious why some of us lose slower or the mechanics of it all as well as the effect of different doses.

I have some other news I meant to mention and forgot - I took my Blood pressure friday and it was NORMAL. As in properly NORMAL. Not raised or anything - properly in the green.

I'm on elvanse and that is known to raise blood pressure so it must be the MJ/ eating unprocessed food/walking but mainly the MJ doing it.

Also I walked for just over an hour yesterday. I've been building it up and off for a walk today. I honestly couldn't walk more than 8-10 minutes without pain before and find it incredible that MJ has made this possible. I am struggling with stress and things with work but being able to walk again is incredible.

That is incredible @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I have also found walking so much easier. I keep meaning to check blood pressure.

I am very tempted to seek an ADHD and ASD diagnosis for myself. I'm noticing more and more traits. Although mj has helped with a lot of them!

I've just done 36mins without a stop! (stopping now for a water and a quick phone break 😂.)

I did"Right to Choose" and have had both adhd assessments and 1 autism one. Second one is in the Easter holidays. Its been very validating for me although yes MJ has also helped I think. With career mess I think it will be helpful for RA int eh future and to help frame what I do next...

There does seem to be a link between ND and binge eating/overeating. Certainly until MJ I never had that "full" feeling that made sense of the "eat when you want stop when you're full" type advice!!

Morning all! W8 D1 5mg (and they’ve kept me on 5mg for another month, which is going to be challenging, as I’m finding there’s a lot of food noise. Still losing though!).

Another 2lb off today! Just under 20st for the first time in a very long time, which I was over the moon to see. Total loss 1st 9.5lb.

8st 6.5lb to go (or 6st 13lb to get to my first goal, which is to be at the weight limit to get back on a horse at my local RDA).

Good luck everyone!
