Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

So I am one 'those' people who get slated on the SheMed facebook group for not being in sackcloth and ashes. I will eat out at a restaurant. I will still have an occasional KFC, but I will just order the chicken, no chips. It's tough doing that because my bargain brain goes "but for just 1.50 more I could get sooo much more stuff" but I give myself a shake and remind myself this is how I got to where I was.

BruhWhy · 14/03/2025 13:51

vickypathsofglorysea · 14/03/2025 12:53

Hi all - following a very long journey that started in January, I now have my first pen (thought I hadn't received it because it was hiding in the packaging)! Both scared and excited to start. Am thinking of doing my first jab tonight in case of side effects.

I have about 5 stone to lose and I while i fully understand the mechanics of dieting I long for some healthy suppression to make the journey easier.

I do have a question for those that are already well underway - how do you manage special meals? Like, meals out and stuff? Do you just eat less?

Yep, just eating a much smaller portion and still really enjoying food (i was worried I'd suddenly hate food, not the case). Our valentines meal was great for example, I had a small steak, about 4-5 gorgeous chunky chips, a salad and I was absolutely satisfied.

I feel like I can enjoy food more now, everything tastes better - I reckon I've reset my palate by cutting out high sugar, high salt foods, because ordinary things taste amazing now. This morning I ate a satsuma and it was phenomenal 🤣

tinyemmy · 14/03/2025 17:35

Happy birthday for Sunday @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden

I personally want to stay on mj but probably 2.5 or 5 but spread out much further. I will see what options they have when I get there but I might have to move providers. I hope not.

Mazd323 · 14/03/2025 19:31

Had my 4th dose of my 1st 5mg pen on Monday. Tonight I can’t stop eating!! Really wishing I’d been prescribed 7.5mg for my next pen but they prescribed another 5mg. I’m hoping the medication builds up and the desire to eat doesn’t get worse over the month. Tonight has shown me I still don’t have willpower when the suppression isn’t there 😩.

Kaggi9 · 14/03/2025 19:49

Had the end of Week 6 check in today (five weeks on MJ though as I cocked up the first injection) and 4lbs off, making a total of 2 stone and 3lbs. That time of the month started yesterday too, but interestingly with much reduced impact and a week late. Usually I have horrendous headaches and and rocking with stomach ache for at least one night! I haven’t even had to take a single paracetamol this time - yet!!

Wishing everyone a hunger free, symptom free and sunny weekend!

Earthgirl3971 · 15/03/2025 12:46

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/03/2025 09:19

@Earthgirl3971 WAHOOOOOO for 1 stone!! Definitely a celebration to be had there :)

Sorry that you feel so ill though. Did you manage to rest? How are you today? It's so unfair when you can't just be left to be ill and recover isn't it.

@BruhWhy WAHOOOOO! Nearly 200lb is very exciting! ANd @bluesmartie83 so close!

@tinyemmy Very exciting. It must be strange to contemplate having to think about keeping the weight on! I think other providers would do 2.5 as a maintenance but having seen some of Shemeds posts elsewhere they seem to be quite stuck to the 5/10/15 doeses. Or maybe they'd want to titrate you off?? (Would you want that?) Like you say a couple of months or so away but I'm invested now 😁. I've got a lot to lose but I hope in 18months-2 years I will be wondering similarly.

@ForPeachSake Have an amazing holiday :)

@Bananaramram 2.1kg yay! 2 stone is amazing :) Hope the cold improves

@OneAzureMaker Oh I am so pleased you are improving!!! I think we've been mirroring each other with side effects it seems but yours were worse. That does sound hopeful that it will get better doesn't it? I really struggled with the diarrhoea this week and it left me so weak for work. I am hoping it does improve.

15kg though! That's amazing!!

I actually slept last night first the first time in a while so feel much better today. And no D for 2 days. But jabbed today so we will see.

My check in shows 1kg loss which is fab - but during the week it looked like 2kg. I guess it shows the reality of weight fluctuations with diarrhoea. Overall I'm losing its just a very "jumpy" graph!

I've passed 1 and half stone :). I was hoping to be under 20stone for my birthday (Sunday) but I'm a few pounds over. It is in sight though. I veer between being excited its working and so pleased I've lost and fear that there is literally so far to go to even get out of morbidly obese/ for it to notice/ to go down into normal clothes! On the right path though.

In other news my work has been manic and stressful and I have resigned from part of my job (will reduce hours and pay though eek). It is all a bit unpredictable - however on the plus side I think if I am going to have to accept these side effects for a while I will find it easier to manage them.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. I know a few of us check in today/ this weekend.

Oh i can't remember if I said - they've sent me a replacement blood test!!! (For the Jan one) looks from the FB group that a few people have now. My bloods I did a week ago at the GP were hideous so I'm nervous now about doing them if it would impact my place on Shemed. Although I have a month's wait to speak to the GP so she obviously isn't fussed...! I am SO hoping that its another bit of data that will be fun to improve.

ChatGPT thinks its anemia and non alcoholic fatty liver - does anyone else have this? I was going to just start taking iron but again google suggests anemia due to severe obesity is dfifferent so Im going to wait to speak to the Dr. I have been so nervous about these results but on the flip side feel SO lucky that MJ is in place to help deal with all this. I'd have been so worried getting these results with nothing in place other than to "lose weight" to solve them.

Hmm flu day 3 today.
My fever has broken and my skins no longer crawling so I'm finally improving. I'm still very tired and floppy and haven't really left the bedroom.

Getting by on cuppa soup today since we ran out of bed for my jam on toast yesterday.

X

Hi everyone! I’m just scrolling through and reading your updates. I haven’t been as active online recently. I’m finding this journey so up and down. I seem to lose weight midweek and then gain it as it gets to the actual check in 😓 so my losses seem pretty minimal. But a loss is a loss I guess! Slow and steady wins the race as they say. On a more positive note, 5mg seems to be settling down and I’m not having as bad side effects. I’ve been prescribed 5mg for my 3rd jab which I’m happy about. I’m down 5.4kg in 6 weeks so not far off 1kg a week. I will admit it is hard to see bigger losses happening for other people, but I’m trying to see the bigger picture. Also trying to limit my time on the fb groups.
My mum has also signed up for SheMed after me raving about it!

Humptyandhambel · 16/03/2025 09:38

Hey 👋 Congrats on all the fab losses!! I’ve still been plodding on at 2lb’ish a week, so loss = 1st 7lb . I was getting a bit worried as it seems to be falling off some of my colleagues & I haven’t had any big drops. However I’ve not had any nasty side effects so that’s a win…Just finished my 2nd pen & I’ve been kept on 5mg for my 3rd pen too.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden one of my liver results on the Shemed blood test was super high, like 99. I didn’t have to do anything additional just got accepted.
i put it down to obesity so hope to see an improvement in the 6mth blood test. xx

Also for those struggling with water intake I found electrolytes help. There’s an offer on the vidrate ones online.

YouWillFindMeUnderCats · 16/03/2025 17:39

Happy birthday @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden. I hope you’ve had a lovely day.

I’m so impressed by the losses some people have achieved. So inspiring.

I’m about to do the 4th jab from my 5mg pen. I lost 3lbs this week bringing my total loss to 18lbs. I’d had a couple of weeks of minimal losses and was feeling a bit disheartened if I’m honest. I needed today’s result! Like others though, it’s averaging out at about 2lbs a week which is a good rate.

I’ve also been prescribed another 5mg pen. I wonder when they’ll move people up to the next dose?

Don't apologise to me about complaining about anything.... everyone is allowed to complain and it's completely valid - id be complaining about it too 😆

And happiest of birthdays to anyone with a birthday this week.

As the commenter above has said, I'm seriously considering changing my check in date to a Monday. I don't know how or why but Monday is always my lowest weight of the week then it creeps up until I check in on Thursdays despite the fact I eat far more over a weekend than I do in the week.

This mornings weigh in put me at losing 2.6kg since Thursday and a total loss of 11.8kg since I applied to join and comfortably under 100kg for the first time in forever. I usually sit between 110 and 120.

Last night was the first time I have noticed a difference in my body. I don't look as bloated, my belly is a bit wrinkly but we're not even thinking about that or loose skin. I just want to be healthy no matter what that looks like

Not sure how my weight is going to react to the stress of this week and next. (And I was made redundant but seeing it as a good thing as I have interviews that are pretty much guaranteed jobs with better pay)

Now to try and hide my pen somewhere as I will be in a hotel with hubby for the week and I still haven't told him

JBJ · 17/03/2025 09:58

Third 5mg injection done today and 2lb loss, which makes up for the gain last week! Really struggling on this dose though as I’ve still got very little appetite suppression. Just done my questionnaire and hoping they move me up to 7.5mg for my next pen 🤞🤞

SnowieBear · 17/03/2025 14:15

Received confirmation last night I am being kept at 5mg for my third pen. So grateful - I am really struggling with side effects this third week on 5mg, have barely eaten since Friday night and I am nauseous and faint. It should have tailed off by now... Sorry, just feeling sorry for myself and miserable today.

kittykarate · 18/03/2025 14:14

Just filled out my pen 3 dose 3 questionnaire. I'm hoping they'll keep me on 5mg as while I have some side effects, they are not limiting me at the minute. On the other hand, I'm maybe not losing weight as consistently as they'd hope, last week it was 100grammes! this week, 1.2 kg.

So that's a total of 9.5kg, so officially broken the "lost 10% of starting weight" barrier!

KoalaKoKo · 18/03/2025 21:39

Has anyone managed to move up to 7.5mg. I have been relatively slow - lost about 7.5kg in over 7 weeks but most of it was in the first 4 weeks and more recently had two weeks where I lost nothing. My side effects have more or less fizzled out - I was surprised they put me on 5mg again when I only lost 2kg in the previous 4 weeks. I have worked out where I went wrong those two weeks (eating less than a thousand calories too often) but don’t think 5mg is really doing much for me anymore. Just worried if I only lose a kilo or two this month they’ll still stick with 5mg again.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 18/03/2025 23:18

Hi all.
I’m on my 3rd pen now so week 8-9.
The second pen was 5mg but I slowly weaned up and have only now begun 3rd pen and started the 5mg:

suppression ✅
mild nausea 1-2 days ✅
weight loss ✅ SW 136 Kg and CW 121kg

main concern is the ridiculous coldness 🥶
it’s so bad I am sleeping in my oodie and noticed of fitbit I am actually cold/
anyone else?

Shemed January Starters - Thread 3
tinyemmy · 19/03/2025 07:51

Good morning 3rd jab of my 3rd pen today so I filled in my questionnaire. I requested another 5mg. Another 2.8lbs lost, total so far is 26lbs. My body stats look so much better, I've reduced my metabolic age by 4 years (2 to go), visceral fat down 4, body fat down 4.2%, subcutaneous fat down 3.1% and BMI down 4.8. I am within touching distance of a healthy weight 🙌 (I am short!)

bluesmartie83 · 19/03/2025 10:44

I’m a little disappointed today with my 1st maintain. Just started my second 5mg pen. I was trying to not ‘diet’ and eat healthier but no tracking etc. I tend to get overly obsessed when I track - I want this to be a lifestyle change that is sustainable. I thought I would though today just track a days calories with the excercise I usually do and was shocked to realise I’m only eating on average 750 calories a day and then exercising on top. Clearly not enough! Going to consciously increase my intake maybe adding in a smoothie or beefing up my meals! Obviously I don’t feel starved and although I thought the jab was doing nothing clearly it is otherwise I would be hungry. Hopefully I can make the change and for the first time in my life I need to eat more!! Here’s to a great week although a frosty one this morning 🥶

bertieallsort · 19/03/2025 15:08

Just had my first 5mg jab on Monday, still no side effects apart from some constipation but the suppression is so high I’m struggling to eat anything at all!
How has anyone managed with this? I’ve got plenty of shakes but the texture of them makes me feel ill. The only thing I’m really managing is yoghurts & the occasional ham salad with a boiled egg.

Lanaa · 19/03/2025 16:10

I’ve been moved upto 7.5mg I’m actually regretting it little as I had my first side effects yesterday and I’ve been too scared to eat since!

Yes me too, but no other symptoms & from what I’ve read that’s ok. I used to need a fan more often than not but not the last few weeks.

Hi everyone, new here & joined specifically because of your threads, wished I’d found you sooner. Signed up to SheMed on 4th Jan, took my first jab 22nd Jan. Now on 5mg & today is jab 9.

Lost 7.5kg so far, 23.5kg to go 🤞🤞

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/03/2025 22:55

Evening! I've had a crazy busy week at work and next week looks busy too - life has too many things at the moment but I'm quite relived I'm on MJ as I would definitely have given in with a diet with all this going on! I am also so envious of those with stable wfh jobs who can ride out the side effects. I am definitely considering where I want to go next workwise.

Thanks for the birthday wishes - I had hoped to get under 20 stone for it but I'm hovering just above it so I know it is in sight !

Fab as ever to read people's losses :) @BruhWhy completely agree with food having more flavour. I thought I'd lose the joy of eating but it's just changed. I'm not sure if thats mainly through eating UPF free or the MJ or both!

@Kaggi9 Yay for less side effects!!
@Earthgirl3971 Sounds awful :( I hope you are on the up now. I imagine it will take a while to recover from the exhaustion of it all even when it goes.
@FollyDear Yay for your mum joining! And less side effects! I'm finding the weight loss a bit unpredictable but I guess if the overall trend is down it is good!
@Humptyandhambel 2lb a week is ace but I know what you mean - I sometimes look at the FB group and there seems to be lots with huge losses. I'd genuinely be happy to maintain 2lb a week though. That's more than I've ever managed before

@SnowieBear how are you doing now? I got worse effects on my 2nd 5mg pen than the 1st and I completely wasn't expecting that. It's been much better now though (3rd jab, 3rd pen) so really hope yours are wearing off.

@kittykarate Wahoo for 10% That's amazing!! I'm going to be filling out my 3 dose 3 on Friday and will ask for 5mg again as I'd like to know I'm not getting the side effects before moving up!

@KoalaKoKo If your average is over 1kg a week I doubt they will move you up yet as that's above the amount they are looking for. . However who knows what they will do!!

@tinyemmy Still cheering for you here. I think you will be our first to "make it"!

@DearRaven Yay welcome!!

OP posts:
OneAzureMaker · 20/03/2025 08:17

It's good to hear how you are all getting on. This week I've had minimal side effects - apart from the usual diarrhoea the first 3-4 days (!) but the freezing cold hasn't been as bad, and minimal dizziness and exhaustion.

Things feel more 'normal' and is if I could continue like this. I sometimes think suppression isn't great, but find that if I put what would have been a normal size portion on my plate, I usually only eat half. I find that I do feel hungry, but that hunger takes far less to satisfy.

I should be ordering my next pen tomorrow and I'm hopeful to stay at 5mg for the next one. A sneaky weigh in this morning (though it always seems to be higher on actual weigh in day) looks as though I'm down 16kg, or 36 lbs since the 10th January.
