Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden where did you go for your ADHD diagnosis. I think it's the right thing for me to do. I'm noticing more and more ADHD and ASD traits in myself. I've been looking at right to choose but just not sure...

God let's blame the ADHD for asking you twice hahaha. Did you like the provider? Which one did you go with. I'm not sure about some of them!!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/03/2025 22:15

I went thru right to choose. There's a Facebook group for adult adhd and right to choose that's quite helpful and has up to date time lines on.

Some providers start titration soon after diagnosis and others don't.

I went with Dr J which was fab tbh.

Missed my check in on Thursdays but quite glad that the weight isn't logged as I jumped on the scales and it says I've put on half of what I'd lost...I know that's probably not a realistic reflection but still disheartening.

Its been a week cooped up in a travelodge waiting for court for them to tell us half hour before we were due that we're no longer needed until Monday. Foods been diabolical and I haven't drank nearly enough.

Took my jab two days later than usual aswell

I am hoping once this next week is out the way I can get back to it and start seeing those numbers come down again but honestly being kind to myself is the last thing on my mind at the moment.

And I will have more time to get moving whilst I look for a new job as I was made redundant

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 26/03/2025 04:00

@Mieliwood Gosh that sounds like the worst week 😔. Sorry to hear you were made redundant. That's so stressful. And to be dealing with court (or not court) as well that is a heck of a lot on your plate.

Weight wise it sounds like water retention doesn't it with all that's going on. Is absolutely do whatever you need to do to get through. And being kind to yourself can take many forms. It might be you need to prioritise rest or taking some time for yourself or whatever it is you need right now.

I'm awake at 4am because I've been awake since 2. I have no idea what my bodies playing at. I'm taking magnesium but it woke me up with a bad dream.

I'm straddling 2 jobs this week and letting so much drop I really need the sleep. Or the strwss might be causing it. Or my other meds. So don't know!!

Check in completed this morning and I am continuing a consistent weightloss week on week. I am consciously working to make healthier choices and I am thinking this will help me when I look to maintain my healthier lifestyle. I am incredibly optimistic that this will work and I will finally achieve my goal. I have only one minor moan and that my bust has reduced substantially 😂 I know we can’t choose where we loose inches but I wasn’t heavy busted anyway but now they are very much non existent. Going to have to invest in some underwear which makes the most of what little I have!! I am so sorry @Mieliwood and I hope that you achieve what you have set out to do and you can move forward in your journey.

kittykarate · 26/03/2025 10:15

I'm so sorry you're having such a tough time @Mieliwood .

I've had some very odd weeks where the scales have moved up and down for no logical reason and all I can think its related to hormones on my side (be it stress, menopause etc) causing my body to hang on to stuff.

kittykarate · 26/03/2025 10:17

My check in this week was positive, 0.5 kg off, which now moves me to a new mini milestone (it quietens down a bit on that front from now on) and I'm under 80kg for the first time in many years (by 100grammes, but you know gotta take the wins)

Reginaphalangeeeee · 26/03/2025 10:29

@Mieliwood so sorry a tough week.
how much is the scale showing you gained?

I had just one weekend away with weekend eating out including McDonald’s on the road…
I accepted a ‘stay the same’ weight in check in but next day I was up 1KG 😬
it’s been 4 days to see me come back down.

i am not sure if this is a normal ‘plateaux ’ but has made me scared of bad foods and how easy it is to gain.

I also feel that eating bad has ‘broken my seal’ and now food noise is terrible! Not been on 5mg long so I know it’s not my dose but my brain and I feel cross with myself.

ahhh is this a common turning point I wonder at the approaching 3 month mark. With out MJ I would definitely have given up this week and returned to previous eating. It’s a struggle to stay strong now and slower weight loss probably makes it harder. Anyone else hitting this spot?

bluesmartie83 · 26/03/2025 10:34

@Reginaphalangeeeee I was the same - if I eat anything with higher salt content my weight goes up and it takes a good few days to shift. I have found upping water intake helps! I had a tin of soup for lunch and put on 1.5lbs the next day! Only thing I changed - absolutely crazy!

Thank you @bluesmartie83 and @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden

We did get to give our evidence on Monday and it was far less intimidating than I expected. Now we are waiting for a verdict and that is a whole lot more anxiety inducing. Everyone is certain of the outcome but it's not helping.

For now my focus is on Everyone else while I just survive and that's fine until it's over

It had said I'd put on just over 5kg 🙄 i still feel smaller than I did and far less bloated looking. Its just hard not to get hung up on the numbers

I think after this 5mg pen I'm going to ask if I can increase

Reginaphalangeeeee · 26/03/2025 10:55

It would not be possible to put on 5kg in a Week I am sure @Mieliwood
scales different?
lots will be water and read 2-3kg water weight can be expected in short term.

Same scales even same spot on the floor
I'm sure it's just stress related because not a chance on earth did I eat my calories - i felt sick most of the week

Gonna give it a while for my body to process the stress and then worry about it

Getting my steps in with pacing while we wait for a verdict though

tinyemmy · 26/03/2025 12:59

Weigh in this morning and I've lost 1.2lbs this week. Not as much as usual but I celebrated a friend's birthday this weekend and ate more than I usually do (since being in mj) plus I'm getting closer to my goal so it should slow down. I will also be pleased at slimming world tonight that I won't come in with a huge loss as usual!
It was the last jab of my second 5mg pen and third 5mg in the fridge (I asked to stay on 5mg). I know there is a lot of negativity about Shemed not moving people up but I'm very happy to stay on the lower dose.

Earthgirl3971 · 26/03/2025 13:24

There seems to be a consistent loss of around a stone and a half plus for most people by now that are on weeks 7 plus. That's the only thing I've really noted by looking on here plus Facebook group is that most people's losses are starting to slow down but not plateau on 5mg. It still gives me heavy suppression and I'd be happy to do the whole year on it if it keeps taking off a lb a week or more.

I'm having a breakthrough bleed that's heavy and lasting over a week so also expecting to stay the same this week because of that... Guttingly, though I've lost a stone and a half now it's not enough to fit comfortably in my holiday wardrobe next week (14) so most things I'm taking away with me are still 16 to 18, including my bikinis and shorts. Some dresses I bought from vinted this year I can't do up the zips or the buttons because I have a huge back! Brings me to the point of Just how much weight to do you have to lose to lose a full dress size? X

I had this initially with 5mg and worried that it wasn't the dose for me either. I read on one of the WLI chats that if you are getting a bit of food noise/feeling snacky, try to increase your protein intake. I've done that and now the food noise/need for snacks is gone. Hope it works for you!

JBJ · 26/03/2025 14:06

I found 5mg weird at first - after strong suppression and good losses on 2.5mg, the first 2 weeks of 5mg, I had no appetite suppression and lots of food noise, although I wasn’t fancying chocolate at all and still
couldn’t eat big portions, but it was a struggle not to snack and I gained the first week. Week 3, I found the suppression kicked in more and by week 4, it’s stronger than ever and I’m struggling to eat enough calories!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 27/03/2025 14:35

I wonder if the first week or two of MJ gives instant results for some people (the high water weight and the sense of suppression) and then settles down which gets mistaken for it not working maybe?

I'm going to attach my current shotsy graph just so those who mentioned "stalling" on 5mg or later on can see how it might go - I've seen several a bit like this on line (and one where one week someone gained substantially but still it followed the overall curve!.)

I found it helpful to see graphs like this when i started as it shows that for some people although the overall trend/curve can be downwards when you zoom in it can look like some weeks it stays the same or doesn't do anything. You can see that twice for 3 weeks it has looked like a stall but actually overall my weight loss continued at the same weight. I'm really glad I didn't push to go up a dose as it was actually working it just might not have looked like it!

I think genuine stalls/plateaus go on for longer

It does seem weird on the Facebook group where people are calling for higher doses when they are still losing, but not the big numbers. They do seem to be getting quite agitated at having to do 'another 4 weeks on 5mg'.

I'd rather be on a track for slower weight loss, but actually be able to enjoy my life on the day to day. A colleague is on 15mg, he finds it incredibly tough as the suppression and sickness lasts for days, and he wonders if he is actually learning to eat normally for the future. His other worry is that there currently isn't a larger dose licensed, so if he stalls then where does he go? His provider didn't provide much advice, so he progressed up the doses fairly quickly, whereas Shemed 'seem' to take a bit of a wait and see approach during stalls, thinking they might be transient.

I worry about that group. It's very negative and I see people repeating posts about the same thing. I do wonder what the people who desperately want to move up a dose and getting annoyed by it are thinking really and whether they really mean that or are just joining in with the noise of the others to have their voice heard. Peer pressure can play a part and may not really be their reality. I'm so happy on 5mg .I can barely eat and my losses are going steadily. As we're only a few months in im doing better than expected and not tracking anything. Just going with the glow. X

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 27/03/2025 15:22

Yup exactly that group that irks me.... So many thinking they were conned or wanting to go up as first week they lost 10lbs so now the 1-2pounds doesn't seem enough.

Or they're "hungry" but not actually eating.

I keep going back to it though..... And then relieved we have this group here (and I like the 10st plus group too and then reading some of the older ones for inspiration!)

Bananaramram · 27/03/2025 17:29

I’m so glad it’s not just me finding that group to be frustrating! I don’t get nearly as much value out of it as I’d like. Jab 11 tomorrow - can’t believe it’s getting close to three months!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/03/2025 18:03

Can I ask what this other group is?
im just here and in a 5 stone + group

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/03/2025 18:04

How are things @Mieliwood?
Hope a better day?
